which one are you having well i think you know which one i'm taking that's the ore style not mine yo what up guys what up youtube so we got the main porch built and now we're gonna go ahead and build this tiny porch i'm eating a casey's donut to get my day started this is just to define and give ourselves a nice little entryway into a door that is still not here we ordered it in september and they're telling me april 26th greg yeah april 26th which is my birthday by the way uh thank you i will take that uh early happy birthday note from you guys assuming that this is up and edited before april 26th if possible that it might not be what we've got to do is we're going to have two posts it's going to gable out and it will be very simple but hopefully good looking and a nice place to be out of the rain as you go to this front door that's going to have a single door with two side lights and i sure hope it comes in some day and we can get it installed but for now we're going to get this porch built so we can get to working on our steel roof when it comes in the siding and i just want to see this porch done it'll kind of give us a nice little definition point but first let's finish this donut so first thing we'll do is get our defining outside which is one foot one foot and nine foot try that knife that's the new gold nice gold tip how'd you know i need to start my pencil i already saw it that's pretty that's pretty good yeah all right dude give me that back did you at least use protection get your gloves on yeah eight foot run eight foot rise eleven three and three quarters hold that right there okay here just take me back and kind of uh you know get me as close as possible let's check this to be i mean that's literally eleven three and three quarters so i'm okay with that we got we should be good what in the world so we've got a um this is a my tech bracket and we've gone ahead and we've got some rust-oleum paint on it looks real fancy we're gonna line these right up with our mark [Music] okay so here's a good example on this dewalt which i do i do like i've just got a standard sds bit and i've encountered some rebar so check it out i can't go i can't go any deeper uh so now this is a rebar demon from diablo and let's just see if we can punch through that rebar hopefully that's the goal oh i hear it [Music] so the good thing is is you can get through the rebar probably with the other bit but it's going to just destroy it this we've had this bit on here for quite a while it has hit rebar before so it doesn't just go bad [Music] yeah caught the rebar that's how you know that i wasn't lying dude there was actual rebar there [Applause] so so you guys just i just pick it get the lat get one here and then put the last one on the tele handler and then drive it out i just got to clean these up a little bit but this is gonna this is gonna work pretty good [Music] [Music] [Music] i forgot how smooth this driver was actually those are like your favorite driver because it's so smooth well because i think i got a new one and i started using a new one and just a new impact from somebody else just to check i know these aren't perfectly plumb because they still got some movement that's a good sound to hear that means that the tops of these posts are both in the same plane they're level to each other so now that we have these i can actually come back here and get them plumb so now we're gonna go ahead and put this ledger on here this uh blocking right on my plumb line on my mark and this is gonna be how we fasten back to the wall there's framing right back here now i'm gonna go ahead and put some bigger structurals here because we are going to be using this as a attachment point of some sort it's not going to be the only attachment point [Applause] you might be asking yourself what all this is for up here and i'll show you as we go why i left that long something i learned while doing the last porch i think will make our job a lot easier [Music] [Applause] now if i did my job correctly and the math is right i should be able to put these on the mark and they should create the frame i'm looking for but there's always things there's always things like human air that come into play that usually mess me up that actually looks pretty spot on it's always nice when that happens wait what oh dang dude we're dumb we're dumb as a box of freaking rocks that straight line should have been an inch and a half back eight foot yeah so both of these are out an inch and a half put the little screw in first right there right there yep sure you're sure uh-huh let's go send it oh no that's a lot dude that's a lot i'm sorry man i know you're not that ballsy but i appreciate your like your thought of like i'm gonna i'm gonna get kyle really riled up here at least i feel a little something i felt a little something yeah very subtle i was able to you know so the mistake i made here was when i plumbed up my lines for the porch location which was an eight foot spacing i didn't take into effect i didn't take into account that that was the outside and i went ahead and installed my ledger board on that line which then essentially gave us an inch and a half bigger so now what i'm doing is just coming through and yep that's eight foot so that's right where i need to be because i made my i made my porch too wide yes sir ready for some purlins a little bit more right there dude bubble line no above line yeah above the line yep here here hook me do you feel solid that swings are yeah the roof is but yeah sure your swings are real solid too so solid dude i hope when i grow up [Music] this is this is out of nails buddy because you never put nails in it sorry buddy i'm not mad at you okay i'm not mad not mad not mad i make mistakes every day buddy i just want you to know that it's okay to make mistakes don't let your ladder be jacked up that's very important your safety is my number one priority no this just don't look right i don't know something don't look right it might just be like an optical illusion i don't know is this warped or something oh wait what's going on there it's like i feel like i'm really low or something yeah wait something right there man yeah something ain't right here man that line ain't center it's the line that you had i didn't square that line where did you get the line from you had a mark right here that was an inch and a half off because it was marked off of that before i realized it was off an inch and a half oh okay so that that's not a big deal dude this is easy right yeah grab your ladder in here and uh grab me my drill i'll move the ones i can and we'll just move it over oh man guys sometimes it happens you're dumb you make mistakes uh the important thing is right what's the important thing we give up no that you that you hide it hide it as quick as possible yes the biggest problem is all these sheets are nailed to the purlins you guys that really stinks um greg and i just realized that something was wrong we seen that something was wrong but we didn't really understand what until we put this last piece of sheathing on and realize that the purlins weren't planing in with the fascia like they were supposed to um it was minimal on the other side so we didn't really notice it but on this side the purlin was higher than the plane into the fascia and it was because when we made that little change where we shifted the the boards in we were off an inch and a half because i plumbed up the wrong line this is all my fault i didn't adjust my center line so then when we plumbed up the center line and put our two by twelves exactly where we thought the center was we were off an inch and a half so now what we've got to do is uh remove the sheathing on the other side slide our whole frame over reconnect everything and then re-sheath it so it's an easy fix really it's not going to take us too long i don't like doing fixes but it could have been a whole lot worse or we could have not caught it until a whole lot later and then had a bigger problem so we're just going to fix it take care of it okay [Music] all right big dog so now we're going to just be able to we should be able to slide this whole thing over hold up okay now we're looking at the right now we're now we're cooking with gas uh it looks good so what i want to do sheesh nothing like dropping a nice drill on concrete let's uh let's check that out wait where'd the bit go that was in it no i already took it out i'm sorry buddy no that's what it sounds like all right then we're we're good to you man we gotta we got the problem fixed took us about half hour got it don't hit your hand the pain is how you know i'm alive okay good okay hey so now that we have this uh roof on it should be good and solid and where it's going to be for the duration of its life just double checking that we still like our plumb on our post because now that we have that done what we're going to do is go ahead and throw some structural grk fasteners in in all these points just to lock it in but it's always nice to kind of wait until you've got it exactly where you want it then go ahead and put these in [Applause] now remember i ran those tops of those posts long it goes all the way up to the top up here so that i can also put some big lags into this 2 by 12 that is our rafter and that's going to give us a ton of strength as well yep that's that's nice that's really nice and sturdy well that was a pretty fun project i hope you guys enjoyed it as well that porch is going to be the front main entry we've got a you know nice entry door there that has two side lights it's been on back order now since uh october of 2021 it is right now today i do believe the middle of march so you're probably not going to see this till who knows this door might actually be installed by the time you actually see this if you guys are following me over on instagram tick tock facebook you might actually see this door in its installed place however right now we are waiting on it for another month or better and when it comes in i can't wait to put it in i think it's going to be a great piece but this will at least allow us to get all of our standing seam metal roof on the porches because we've got both porches built and start doing some stone we got that verseta stone to continue and the lp expert finish smart side that's the board and batten and i can't wait till that goes on because i love the blue but it just doesn't look finished and when i look at the garage where we've got the garage doors all the trims the siding is done it just looks really nice the colors are awesome but with that being said i'm gonna go ahead and get out of here clean up and we'll catch you guys on the next video if you haven't already and you enjoyed this content make sure you hit that subscribe button and give this video a thumbs up i appreciate it if you've got any comments
