have you ever encountered a real-life bridezilla what's the story i got married on saturday and it was absolutely amazing except for one thing my parents showed up late they knew the ceremony time and my husband and i made it very clear to everyone both in the invites and in person that we were going to start exactly at that time the venue cost us a lot of money we paid for the entire wedding ourselves and we were only able to use it for a limited amount of time so we wanted to make every minute count so the wedding day came and a half an hour before we were scheduled to start my parents still hadn't showed up my husband and i both called them multiple times but nobody answered we waited and waited and still heard nothing finally the start time arrived and my parents still weren't there i was really annoyed at this point the wedding coordinator asked if i wanted to go ahead and start the wedding and i said yes all of our other guests were already there and we wanted to be considerate of their time my parents showed up 15 minutes later and missed the entire ceremony it turns out they did leave early but got rear-ended at a traffic light and had to deal with insurance police etc they only have a landline no cell phones so they couldn't get in touch with me obviously there's no way i could have known this i'm still frustrated with them for not making more of an effort to get to the venue early and they're furious at me for not delaying the wedding 15 minutes so they could be there as a quick background i 23 year old female am not a makeup artist i enjoy makeup and i am good at it and sometimes i will do my friends makeup if we are going to a party or other event however i don't actually have the materials range of skin eyebrows etc shades to accommodate anyone who is not similar in tone to myself i also should make very clear here that i see makeup as a hobby i lead a pretty busy life as i am in a full-time college course non-makeup related and i have a job non-makeup related my roommate's sister is getting married in april i have met her twice i was in the kitchen eating my cereal and my roommate came in and began describing a conversation that she had with her sister to summarize her sister had been saying how she did not want to pay for a makeup artist for her and her bridal party for her wedding when op could just do it her bridal party consists of herself her four bridesmaids and her mother the wedding is a two-hour drive for my apartment this alone sets me up with a 10 hour unpaid day to add to this the wedding is on a monday when i would usually work an 8 hour shift paid i also do not have makeup that matches the bride's or any of the bridesmaids skin or eyebrow tone so i would potentially need to purchase this i asked my roommate how much i would be paid to do this expecting a smaller sum than a qualified makeup artist but surely enough to cover travel any new products and a gift note i would not be expecting an hourly rate or anything and she replied saying that i would not be paid at all to add i was also not to be invited to the wedding i am kind of the view that if you feel like we are close enough for you to ask this favor from me i should at least be invited as an evening guest as i am not a professional the concept of doing someone's entire wedding party's makeup sort of freaked me out what if i mess it up or it doesn't last all day i'll just be blamed for a bad job when it's a very stressful request i really think that this needs to be shamed particularly as my roommate did not seem to see anything wrong with it if you want good makeup pay for it don't ask favors from people you barely know a little bit of human respect goes a long way if you can't afford to pay people for their time don't have such an expensive wedding so a close family member is getting married soon i have been told to either grow my beard out a lot or shave it completely for the wedding or the option of wearing glasses that i only use while looking at classroom boards from far away while sitting the moment before i stand to walk out i remove my glasses i only use them in the classroom while sitting i have been told to do this as their wedding present also because a very old family member recently mistook the groom for myself i have not seen this family member for a long time i live several hours away from most of the family anyway i don't see them too often but will during the wedding i am a member of the groomsmen i don't feel it is okay to strongly request this to the point of being overly upset if i choose to not follow their request a request can be denied and i am choosing to have a cleanly shaped beard and not wear glasses that will make me nearly blind while walking around i don't think i look too similar to the soon to be married groom we look similar but it's quite easy to tell us apart i don't feel it's my issue to change my appearance for the wedding just because of a similarity i find it upsetting that i am told to change my appearance because of their choice to marry a person that may look similar and not my choice that we do have a slight resemblance edit the close family member is my sister by the way also one parent seems quite upset that i am not going to follow their request saying it's a simple thing to do for them which yeah it is simple to do yet i may be stubborn in my decision but feels wrong to change my looks and fake on my part and the other parent seems to completely agree with my decision edit 2 update so in light of threats to be alienated from a big portion of the family upset bride beyond repair etc i will now be wearing glasses with non-prescription lenses that have zero correction only worn during the photos and ceremony up in front of everyone then i am allowed to remove the glasses and do as i see fit i view it as altering my normal appearance to make the bride feel better about her insecurities i am her brother and being asked to cover up my looks so i am different seems crazy to me but in using these fake glasses this will prevent several people from freaking out on me i don't think it's a big deal at all if i look somewhat alike to the groom similarity is small just two dudes with beards and same color hair so the super bowl has come and gone and one of my bridesmaids who was also my closest friend in college loves to make wagers with her friends but instead of money they'll bet on doing something embarrassing in the past she and her friends when they lost have had to go to work wearing their last halloween costume in april make a shot for shot remake of the umbrella music video while dressed as rihanna and reenacting the walk of shame from game of thrones just to name a few well my bridesmaids stupidly bet on the 49ers winning the super bowl this didn't happen and as humiliation for their loss she had to shave her head bald before she had long brown hair like the other four bridesmaids and myself and i know this sounds like a totally bridezilla thing to say but i was really hoping that we would look nearly identical on our wedding day to be honest i'm still really upset with her i haven't had any problems with her bets until now while i knew she was going to be on the super bowl i didn't hear anything about how the loser had to get a chrome dome until someone posted a video of her getting buzzed on instagram i wish she had the sense to say hey this might not be a good idea can we all make the loser dress up as the chief's head coach or something today i gave my bridesmaid an ultimatum although the wedding isn't for another month she is still going to look like natalie portman in v for vendetta and i don't want to look back on her wedding photos in 50 years and be reminded of this stupid thing she did the month before so i told her that she had to get a wig i wasn't going to kick her out of the wedding party i wouldn't dream of doing that but she had to get a long brown-haired wig because i want lindsay beside me when i get married not lindsay looking like jane my bridesmaid is annoyed that i am making her get a wig but as far as i'm concerned she is responsible for this thing she did she got herself in the situation and she can fix it of course this has caused a riff among the other bridesmaids while a few of them agree with my decision and that what she did was really stupid when it was so close to the wedding my maid of honor is on the bald bridesmaid side and believes that if i am so adamant about my bridesmaids being identical then i should be the one getting the wig info important to the story my surname can also be used as an uncommon first name one of my email addresses is first name surname and i've been using it since 2005. a few days ago i'm sitting at the table with my fiance addressing wedding invitations when my phone buzzes i've gotten an email that reads please mark name one and name two as coming to your wedding we will have the chicken and the fish cue a very confused 30 seconds of trying to figure out which one of our guests has precognition and has rsvp'd before the invites were even dropped in the mail not recognizing the sender's email or the names of either guest we chalk it up to a wrong email address send back you might want to double check who you send this to so your rsvp goes to the right place and chuckle at the confusion it cost us thinking things have been resolved until the next day i get two more rsvps from two different addresses and a reply from the original that says this isn't the email for the wedding of first name and surname i reply back no no it's not i'm perplexed but at work i decide to deal with the other emails later when i get home i've gotten another rsvp four in total for those playing along at home as well as an email from someone with the same first name as me saying that she's going to need me to give her my email account um i reply to that no and also why i get an email back in about 10 minutes she says that she's got the same first name as me and is getting married to a guy named surname they've picked first name surname as their email account for rsvps she didn't realize i made the account so i can either give my password to her or i can reset it and she can create a new one whichever works for me the smiley wasn't included but it read like it should have been so i editorialized here i reply again that she's going to need to pick a new account this is mine it's my full name i've had it for a literal decade it's the email all of my family knows blah blah blah more apologetic than needed at all but i wanted to explain why i wasn't giving it up i do congratulate her on getting married and to mention that i'm getting married myself as well oh she loses it i get a nasty nasty string of emails from her saying that i have no right to use first name surname unless my fiance is named surname that i won't need it after i'm married so what's wrong with giving it up a little early that i am ruining her life and her wedding that i am a wide array of gender-based insults and slurs she hopes that my fiance cheats on me because i deserve it and finally she is giving me one more chance to hand it over before she sues me for theft and i owe her a lot of money i was more than a little taken aback so i didn't reply to any of this the fiance did offer up some snarky replies for me to use but i didn't a few hours later the original rsvper sends me an email saying that they double checked the invitation my email is definitely the one written on the invite ah now the mystery unravels she put my email on her wedding invites and sent them out to people without first registering the email address herself it's printed and in the mail it's permanent oh what a super stupid decision i finally reply to her tirade without using any of the snarky comments i'd been given telling her under no circumstances would i be giving her my email legally she doesn't have a leg to stand on she's being super rude but i am still willing to forward on the rsvps to her if she would like me to i ask how many people she invited so i can get an idea of just how much work i volunteered for privately not really looking forward to forwarding emails for her but i am not a nasty person and hey it is her wedding after all i have personal real-time experience of getting stressed over wedding plans myself maybe she's normally a nice person and just at her wits end over this mistake she sends back a nasty email full of expletives and name calling again demanding my password or nothing well okay then nothing it is i blocked her email and replied to the three rsvps i hadn't talked to yet with a simple i'm sorry you're not invited to my wedding this has the benefit of being 100 true albeit deceptive today i got another rsvp and they got a nice curt not invited reply as well i'm hoping she has a very large wedding party fiance offered a few snarky replies to the guests i could make including claiming i'd gone vegan and by requesting chicken they'd failed the test and i never wanted them to contact me again confirming but pushing back the date of the wedding a week or saying that i decided to marry fiance's name instead of surname none of them have responded back yet but if they do i'll forward the email chain between me and bridezilla to them and explain the situation this is only petty revenge after all i was the manager at a big box fabric retailer so we got all sorts of crafty brides that came in so much so that if i ever see burlap and lace at a wedding now it makes me want to throw up i have so many stories of different bridezillas but i know where i want to start first one let's call her alice came in and was looking for tulle her mom maid of honor and grandmother were with her she comes up to me asking where the tool was i bring her to her options and immediately things go south at this point alice won't speak directly to me she talks through her entourage i felt very silly seeing as though i could hear the bride because she was speaking out loud but would say things like tell her i want something with lace tell her this is too shimmery tell her this is too pink and they would comply and tell me as such apparently grandmother had told alice that she would make her cathedral veil for her instead of buying one of the dress designer and we didn't have the correct shade of ivory i was told her dress was custom made but the designer wanted to charge 200 for a custom veil to match and alice thought that was silly i explained that we were a big boxed retailer and when you order your veil custom-made it will be dyed to match the dress they could dye the tool they buy today but no that was absolutely unacceptable the wedding was in a week and they needed the veil done by tonight then maid of honor tells me they have driven for an hour to get here specifically because it said we had ivory tool online i explained how die lots can differ from bolt to bolt and online states this as well and if they were coming all this way they should have called first and i would have happily had a staff member available to help them out this was a saturday and we were very busy alice becomes irated this and starts throwing a tantrum inside my store i tell grandma who at this point is the only one staying level-headed that the options we had out were her only options i couldn't make fabric fall out of my butt grandma managed to talk mom and meat of honor down into a lace that was closer to the right shade i don't know what alice thought because she was only speaking to mom at this point in whispers then we hit the next big issue grandma agreed to make a cathedral veil and has never made one before we go and find a pattern and turns out the only way to make it work with this fabric was to put a seam down the middle which as long as the fabric was matched up nicely wouldn't have been very noticeable alice finally starts speaking directly to me but it's screaming that you can hear through the whole store the veil they saw when she tried her dress on didn't have a seam so this one shouldn't either i rationally started explaining that the only way not to have a seam would be if she purchased a wider fabric since she didn't like the colors we had in stock and didn't want to dye it this was as good as she was going to get mom and maid of honor at this point escort alice out of the building leaving me and grandma to chat grandma bought all of the fabric embellishments and supplies i found her coupons for a few things but the fabric alone was thirty dollars a yard so this poor grandma ended up shelling out about three hundred dollars for this veil you can buy them online for about fifty to three hundred dollars that woman was one of the nicest people i have met and i felt horrible and told her this multiple times she could buy a veil online for cheaper she kept insisting on buying the fabric and making the veil i'm sorry your granddaughter sucked i got married two weekends ago i asked my three best friends anna kelly and laura to be my bridesmaids two years before the wedding and found them very helpful when planning for the morning of my wedding i hired a fancy penthouse apartment for myself and the bridesmaids to get ready we had champagne and as we were pouring it out laura said none for her now laura is the biggest party animal of us all so naturally we questioned why she wasn't drinking laura then told us she was pregnant of course i was happy for her but obviously the focus was then on laura and her pregnancy and not on us getting ready for my wedding something i had been planning for two years anyway we all got ready and headed to the venue the photographer kept us outside the venue for a short while so he could do posed photos with myself and the bridesmaids i was holding my bouquet anna and kelly were holding theirs but laura placed hers on the floor and was standing with her hands cradling her stomach as if to emphasize her bump which wasn't noticeable as she's barely 12 weeks the photographer asked her to pick up her flowers so all of us were holding our bouquets and laura refused and said oh it's okay i'd prefer to stand like this and carried on cradling her stomach so now those photos just look weird the rest of the day went smoothly until it came to the speeches as laura was my oldest friend naturally i asked her to say a few words she stood up and said some nice words then ended her speech with and i'm so excited to announce that as bride's best friend i'd like her to be an honorary aunt to my baby who is due summer 2020 with her being an old family friend of course my family was over the moon and again the attention was on her and her pregnancy and not on me and my husband i felt so upset on my wedding day and haven't really spoken to laura much since she has since sent me a text saying i'm acting like a spoiled brat and the world doesn't revolve around me
