Breakfast Battle: Is Indian Breakfast better than an English fry?! Trying Indian breakfast in London

rainy sunday morning and i'm back in east town to do something a little bit different breakfast battles so what i'm gonna do is i'm gonna try two different breakfasts one traditional english fry sausage bacon eggs the works and i'm gonna try that breakfast and compare it to an indian breakfast more south indian breakfast get the dosa get all of that and see which comes out on top breakfast battles start now [Music] before i get indian breakfast dishes i'm stopping to get an english breakfast just like my grandmother would make except don't tell my grandma this is so much more intense than anything i've tried i've got sausage egg bacon black pudding bubbling squeak which is the famous english dish baked beans and mushrooms and toast and tea so i won't be able to eat it all and i'll have to take some home but yeah i have to use the wide angle to capture how big this breakfast is oh my god so i'll start with the black pudding which is blood sausage and this is my favorite thing on the plate i love blood sausage honestly it tastes so good like a creamy sausage so i don't think i've ever actually tried this it's bubble and squeak which is apparently named after the sound it used to make when it was frying and it's like the traditional english dishes you'll read about in guidebooks potatoes and veggies something healthy in the breakfast if i had to come down somewhere on the sausage egg spectrum i'm team sausage all the way oh thank god i love breakfast sausages so apparently full english fry-ups became the national dish from like the fancy times when there were lords and ladies and they had to offer their gifts something hearty to eat so we have a full fry up everyone tried to one up why not beat each other until they've had this huge thing on the plate and then it just got popular because it tastes so good and now it's the national dish [Music] this is gonna have to be compared to indian chai later so tough competition this is what i drink every day and i don't get sick it just takes me back to sitting with my dad or my grandmother after church eating run it was the best [Music] sunday english breakfast done oh my god it was almost as good as what my grandmother makes which is saying something because i'm completely biased the thing about english breakfast is they're huge and they're meant for like people who are about to go out and work all day and all i have planned for the rest of the day is to eat more but that was one of the best breakfasts you can have i've got my bag of leftovers and i'm off for indian breakfast i couldn't eat an indian breakfast wait the whole thing so my flatmates are gonna get a good good surprise [Music] now i'm at the indian breakfast place it's called the santa villas it's an all-vegetarian restaurant and they open at 7 00 a.m we have a special breakfast menu so i'm going to get this tiffin and it has a lot of different things in it and coincidence is the exact same price as the english breakfast so now we know we're comparing mike for like seven pounds fifty both come with tea these are really good value breakfast so come to eastham for good value breakfast in london oh wow they were nice enough to invite me to the kitchen so i could see how the food got made watching dishes get cooked is one of my favorite things it's why i love street food so much and this was almost as cool the restaurant is a well-oiled machine and how they kept it so clean and organized i'll never understand thank you i got back from the kitchen and my breakfast was here oh my god and then i spent five minutes taking pictures am i the only one who does that i'm so excited where do i start calm down calm down in the breakfast that i'm getting is let me read it to you it's the mini tiffin classic it has italy pongo puri masala dosa tea and it's served with chutney and sambar so this is apparently am i pronouncing that right and it that you is dip in a chutney oh it's like a little savory doughnut and then we've got the idlis the dosa and then i'm gonna have to ask with the other things because i don't know i don't know what this is and i don't know what this is so let me ask yeah what's this one what is it what's that it's made of it made of rice and then what's this one oh it's a sweet one so this is like a savory rice porridge kind of and this is a sweet sweet okay cool thank you so much i'm gonna start with the dosa all right [Music] all three of these are so good and that's one of my favorite things about dosas is they often come with kind of chutneys and sauces and sauces are my favorite [Music] isn't the crunch of a dosa one of the nicest sounds ever oh i think i could make that my ringtone oh look at that that's making a good crunch noise too i'm gonna dip it a little bit in here tell me if i'm doing it wrong another thing i haven't tried before apparently it's sweet [Music] oh that's really interesting it has that kind of um milky sweet taste of barfi but very mild and almost like a jelloy texture sometimes for some of my friends indian sweets are too sweet this would be good because it's not overly sweet i also really appreciate when there's a dessert for breakfast it's a good touch you need that wow i just read that in india at train stations they're replacing throwaway cups again back with the kind of clay metal reusable cups that they used to use so it's like the original thing that they did in india was better for the environment they went into plastic cups and now they're going back to the original which is just nice because when you rather drink this out of this in the morning or a nice clay cup than a styrofoam something that's killing the [Music] environment i know chai takes hours to steep but it's worth it all the spices you can taste why have like starbucks and costa not been able to figure out how to get a chai latte to taste like this i would buy them more if they did yeah and it's not too sweet i like really sweet ones but if you didn't this isn't even jam-packed with sugar either okay i've just been told why this one wasn't so sweet i wasn't mixing it my bad i'm red oh cool i just didn't think this one was that sweet thank you so much oh now it's sweet i like drinking half not so you have sweet this was great that's so cool i didn't know that everyone here is so nice oh they're the nicest indian breakfast done two now oh my god they were it was so good they were so nice i got to go look into the kitchen and i think what i like most about it is that you get to try multiple different things and i was just i guess just like an english breakfast that you get to try the dosa the vadais the different chutneys all of it and because it's all vegetarian it doesn't feel so heavy so you don't feel like a huge lump in your gut after you're done eating which is just so nice oh and the chai i mean printing chai guys [Music] moment of truth if i had to pick one breakfast okay if i had to pick which one i would eat every day i'm gonna go with the indian one just because it's vegetarian it is lighter you get something healthy in it but if it's a sunday morning i gotta go with the english breakfast it's just like it's my tradition it's what my grandmates so i mean weekdays healthy good for you lots of different flavors indian but that like party sunday sitting with your family you gotta go for the
