Boys: How to be popular as foreigner in Japan

This time we are gonna go and ask What does a guy have to do to be popular in Japan So boys take notes and lets go Ask Japanese. What requirements does a foreign boy need to be popular? Even if he looks alright, and is taller than you, what does he still need? What? - I am different from others. I like beards. I like foreign men with tidy beards I think that looks cool. That's my type. What style of beard? - This style A tidy beard around the chin. How long is ok? Just the chin. - Only the chin! - Wild boy beard? Something like that. You say it looks good on foreign men, what's with Japanese men? There are people that look good with it, but the majority doesn't. Yeah lol. - But he looks good with it. The director seems to suit a beard. - What foreigners do suit a beard? - Beckham looks cool. I don't know why but he looks good. - Simple fashion and a simple beard. - Simple style suits beards? I like men in suits who have a cool beard. If they wear sunglasses with their suits, that's hot. - Like Men in Black? - I also like muscles. Muscular men? - That's my type. - How muscly? I don't need a bodybuilder but... a men with nice thick muscles. How thick should his arm be? Like two of my fists. How shall he show his muscles? In Japan there are no tank tops... - I dislike those. Not my thing. - How will you see his muscles then? How? In summer I like seeing men with tight t-shirts and such. I look at them. The way the t-shirt sticks to their skin. - You can see the outline. That's so cool. - So hot. I love that. I can't look anywhere else in summer. Watching the muscles bulk out from the t-shirt? Yeah, so tight here. Love it. Is that like the male "divine inch"? - Yeah like that. - Which famous person has the best muscles? - I like Will Smith. Oh nice. - I like Chris O'donnell You know what I mean? He is so cool. I love him. Where did you watch him? - NCIS The police one? - Yes he was there. So you wish for those muscles? - Yes. A foreigner boy coming to Japan what would make him popular? I am a woman, and I struggle with shaving... Our hairs are darker than lighter types And if they were to dye their hair, they would get such beautiful hair colors. I think that's cool about foreign men. Japanese people struggle with dyeing hair? Our hair is very dark, getting this color is really hard. We take a lot of effort and time to get here. If the real hair is already bright and beautiful, I think dyeing it would work better. I think I look at it from a business side... but I think foreign men have nice hair colors and dyeing their hair would look good too. I think white and black men look good with dreadlocks. I see what you mean. You don't get that much in Japan. Japanese men don't have them much. I think foreign men look good in them. Because it's rare in Japan, it looks good? - Yes it's unique Might make em popular. Men who are gentleman. - How so? Doing the "Ladies First" thing. In Japan men don't do that. What ladies first treatment do you want? - Opening doors Opening doors? - Japanese men will NEVER do that. - Open the door for you? They won't. - They go in first and might hold it open for you. But opening and waiting, they will never do that. - What? They won't. What 3 gentleman behaviors do you want? Opening doors and what else? - pulling back the chair and waiting until I sit. - And saying that I look cute. "You are the only one for me" and "You're so pretty" - Japanese men don't do that. - I wish we had that. So gentlemen! What else makes men popular here? - Men who come and who love Japan. They learn a lot about Japanese culture. - They really show how they love your country? - I can feel that when they say "I wanna go to Kyoto" or try to learn our history and such. It's great. And that makes them popular? - I think so. It makes me happy. - They show interest in our country. They show they love your country. - Yes that's it. Foreign men tell their feelings straight out. Men saying what they want. - Yes. - Not being bothered what others think about them. Doing this interview... everyone looks at us. Japanese when they look we look at people's faces. Abroad though... people don't get so bothered by what you do and let you be but in Japan, everyone is looking or bothered about being looked at And nothing goes from there. Abroad that's not a thing. That's what Japanese who like foreigners like. So not being to bothered by others? - Yes Not being worried that people look at them or how they look themselves? They are not so bothered. They wear and life the way they like. I think that's so cool. And also that one... That one? - The fact that they are tall. But there are not so tall men. - Yes but the general image of foreigners is like that But contrary, being from abroad but not being tall.... but that's cute too I think that's a good conversation starter. The opposite effect. - Going to karaoke they can sing songs in their country. - I get that! When men sing in their language, girls will be like... "wow..." "I don't understand but he sounds so cool" - Like a song prince. - Yes. The song prince! - Singing English songs... and such will be enough to be popular in Japan. Same for us. - And just by being foreign men. they will be popular. - Cause you can't sing like him? - Yeah. You don't understand what he's singing. - But the atmosphere. "He knows what I don't know! He is so cool" Nice idea. Let's go to Karaoke. - Yes that's a good idea and it's from Japan This is a thing in Japan but boys who can do sports are popular. Doesn't matter if they are foreign or not, being sporty is good Yeah students at tournaments performing well will be popular with girls. So sporty men are popular? - They are.  What sports would be popular for foreign men? - Basketball. Basketball and Volleyball. All sports that are connected to height. or Track and Field. We had things from beards and muscles generally Japanese girls don't seem to like beards of Japanese boys but there is an exception for foreigners if they are the wild type. Generally the bushy thick hipster beard is a no-go for everyone in Japan. Apart from that it was the wild-boy kind of beard Seems to be ok. Surprising. Tight tops are ok if you are foreigner, but they are ok And then general things, ladies first, loving Japanese culture, respecting the manners, Japanese girls love that. Also being able to do sports and being tall seems to help you a lot. now I think there is still quite an influence from the hollywood feel so the hollywood foreigner image seems to be strong in Japan. Generally if you come and you're kind, nice and respect the manners and culture of Japan that will definitely get you a couple of smiles and maybe you be more lucky.
