Boy Scouts discover Civil War burial site

Missouri Boy Scout Troop got much more than they bargained for while working on an Eagle Scout project Zach Tekin Berg shows us how it turned into more of a history lesson we also cleaned up the fence line Jack Taylor jr. and a dozen of his Scout buddies decided to give Oakland Cemetery outside of holt a little attention for Jack's Eagle Scout project and then we cut branches off the off the tree line the guys also worked on straightening fallen headstones they discovered many were completely knocked over mostly buried in the dirt we noticed some of the stone like sticking up by the ground and then we just kept noticing that there are more around him once they started unearthing the stones jack notice four of them had the same last name Bigelow and on two of them the same date of death June 25th 1864 they were killed in a civil war by guerrillas led by a Charles F Taylor local historian Harry Salta shocked says the brothers John and Solomon Bigelow both served with the Union militia the Confederate guerrillas had them surrounded in their northern Clay County home and demanded they surrender and they refused that because they knew their fate was sealed anyway and they put up a spirited resistance when their guns went empty they started throwing furniture at their assailants and of course they lost Sultan shock says that was just one of Taylor's bloody stops in Missouri in Kansas he was shocked to discover such a strong connection at the cemetery that was the first tangible link to that error I found in a long time naturally exciting for a historian and giving a younger generation a new appreciation for the past and almost found it be like a history lesson it was pretty cool to find all the history about it outside Holt Missouri Zack tacklin burg 41 Action News
