Lake Mead Is Gone !!

[Music] hey all rusty rv tv welcome check it out we are an interstate 15 we're heading towards vegas but guess what we're not going to vegas i want to cut down the back side of lake mead it's called lake mead recreational area there's actually there's a couple little towns we're gonna cut through before we get there it's kind of a scenic drive a lot better than doing vegas and all the freeways and everything so let's check it out [Music] it's been quite a while since i drove down through here actually a long long time but it's cool drive it's about i don't know 80 miles till we cut over we'll end up at boulder city here's a map of the area right here a couple years ago i filmed the valley of fire state park at the nevada state park we're not going that way we're gonna head up towards lake mead national park in overton that's where we're heading now so sit back enjoy the ride i have also seen on the news here this year how low lake mead is we're going to check that too just out of curiosity watch how the terrain changes i mean we are in hardcore desert and all sudden it's gonna get green all these little communities have water and houses it's really built up since i've been through here look at this big trees brick walls they got schools i mean this is uh the real deal i think they do a lot of farming you know this area really reminds me if you ever been over to like palm springs indio coachella valley that's what this really reminds me of going coming through here in nevada kind of like a little oasis there you can see big old fields in between the houses actually these houses are huge miles wise we're not that far from vegas maybe what 50 miles yeah i really don't remember any of this even gas stations big old palm trees all these uh communities uh connect in here too if you look at it on the phone beautiful day a little warm a little hazy not bad great day to cut through here on a good drive we're heading home we're heading to arizona we're going to be there in a while [Music] we should be getting close to i think it's called overton here we are look how this is this is a big town town anymore car parts napa this is small town nevada in the middle i mean in some of the harshest desert you can imagine and it gets brutal hot here ace hardware i'm sure there's a motel you know a lot of recreation activities too because of lake mead lake mead is a massive lake where it used to be we're gonna see it i'm kind of curious okay another reason i came down through there there's a local grocery store of course a dollar store cool looks like we made it now watch this we're gonna head straight out of all this greenery i bet we end up right back in desert [Music] how about that leaving the water and going right back straight in the desert you know out here there's places to camp matter of fact if i can find it i think it's called stewart's point there's a campground there and you speak able to camp right on the lake i was there in like the early 90s a long time ago but here you can see how uh the train's changing matter of fact if i find a place to pull off i will take a break take a look [Music] found one on top of this plateau here oh man the haze is kind of blocking it out that's looking straight back towards overton those communities look how it goes from desert down into that valley [Music] where all the farmland is they mine minerals out here i can actually i can hear it behind me there's active mines going kind of looks like the moon or mars huh pretty cool see over there i can hear heavy equipment going it's got to be some type of mining what they go for i don't know i don't know what they mine on but kind of unique area [Music] now you get a better look there you can see the valley down there and i-15 would just be past that there's a road we just drove up plus look at that you can see uh campers out there there's people boondocking you can actually boondock out here nevada's full of free camping pretty harsh area of course you're close to overton you got supplies right down in town this is atv land too look at all the trails you can just go for hundreds of miles out here that's the direction we're gonna head should be like meat over there and that mining operation that has to be back in there i can sure hear the equipment going pretty cool looking now all right let's keep on trucking all right well i'm gonna look on the phone here see if i can't find that uh stewart's point years ago i spent a couple nights there on a weekend had a great time we're right on the water so let me see if i can find it [Music] dude i almost missed it goodness good thank goodness for google maps almost missed this but look at this we're gonna drop down towards the lake lake mead wow look at this that's pretty much abandoned down here there's power poles look how far away the water is oh my goodness it's not what it used to be looks like someone's living in that house off to the right oh man well let's drive down a way see what we get into look at that there's vaulted toilets this used to be a campground i think they had a boat launch here but oh my goodness there's no lake left probably about right here we'd start being in water wow oh man well they're sure right on the news look at this this is hundreds of feet down we'd be underwater right now look at that there's a concrete for old docks and stuff concrete uh mooring place oh my goodness we would be underwater we're driving right through here wow well let's keep going a little farther oh oh look at the birds they're heading south look at that they're heading the courts hey sir are i'll we i'll be right behind you guys boy it's pretty rough in here for this van this band ain't no four-wheel drive let's go down a little bit farther and i'll get out we'll take some pictures my goodness there's no lake left there's absolutely no lake left lake mead is gone look at this that's insane camera doesn't show it we're dropping down pretty good in that elevation here i don't think i'm gonna risk going too much farther i don't get stuck but it's hundreds of feet fleur down to the water yet i don't know what to say i mean there's no lake left that is way down there yet we should be under hundreds of feet of water right now as far as you can see it's as dry isn't this something look you can see the water lines on all that well there used to be lake mead wow it'll take decades to fill this thing back up be interesting to see what it looks like closer to the dam so [Music] back in the early 90s i was down here and the people i was with had boats we were boating camping and if i remember right we were right on the water now look how far down you could go you'd need four four wheel drive to get all the way down there way out that way is hoover dam it's the direction we're gonna go all right let's keep on trucking [Music] [Music] well that's kind of a shocker i bet people still camp down here it's just wrong time yet you could come down here in the winter it'd still be a lem lamb probably but all these houses up there they look empty they were probably rentals at one time if the walls could talk huh all right head up to the main road well we got a few miles to do not going to see much in this haze so i'll kick the camera on when i see something good you can barely see the water right there still a pretty drive-through here if you ever get a chance take this backside of lake mead national recreation area all right we should be making a left up here to the right would actually take you right into vegas reminds you a lot of quartzite the train around here huh all right there's another overlook right up the road here that i've stopped at before we'll have to get some video from there before we get out of this area wow now you can really see the enormity of how low it is you can really tell where the water line was at i wonder what the capacity is it's got to be less than 50 percent has to be that is massive amount of water okay there's some cool overlooks up here i think this is one right here we say we'll make a stop here it is from up here we'll get a better view very good chance i keep saying that it's a neat area they also say that lake powell was massively low too you know when we're up at the flaming gorge reservoir that thing was pretty full so they're holding water up way up north but they sure heck aren't releasing it down here okay these are like day use areas wow look at that okay well let me park here a second ain't no one here get out take a walk it's a little pathway right up here look at the green it's still got a little water way down there but this should be full of water right here actually i think there's a marina up that direction they got to be about out of business there's also some marinas uh down by closer to the dam well let's check it out [Music] well this is a viewing area [Music] still see the water lines in there yeah there's nothing left almost looks like a river down there instead of a lake huh wow you know a lot of this ground hasn't been exposed for such a long time that i wonder what you could find if you hike down there take a metal detector way over there look at the water lines and that way up there too is a marina we passed a sign for it wonder what you could find down there now okay well time to do some miles disappointing but hopefully it comes back need a lot of snow pack and a lot of years of some pretty good storms all right mega left here not too much farther we'll end up back near hoover dam well i bet it really looks empty by the dam well these times i'll go back in on the dam you got to go through all that security and all that stuff and it's really nowhere to park without hiking a long ways so we'll make the dam a adventure for another time maybe later this winter hopefully it'll be some water coming in okay off the left that's more campgrounds and the beach there is no more beach wonder how far out they can float their marinas they must have them out of ways we're almost out of here start seeing a few buildings up here but there's the parking area and the water is way down way way down there but this is where you used to be able to come launch your boat enjoy the beach a lot of people come here you know vegas is a big time town in the millions of population plus arizona california people come from all over the world to come here okay this is the other entrance we're most up we're almost out of the national recreation area here wonder if they're charging people because this is fee based they can't be charging people to come in here to see nothing no water bring your own water look at that guy has a boat so he must be able to launch somewhere but here's our entrance made it here's boulder highway we're gonna make a left we're gonna run right down here and connect up i think it's what is it highway 93 it's gonna take us right back into arizona we're heading home there's that visitor center i did a live stream there uh what year or so ago [Music] this should be the hoover dam lodge and casino they used to have helicopter rides out of here that i'm sure they still do doesn't look very busy there's a few cars in there though all right should be connecting right back up with 93 which actually they called interstate 11 too they made a portion of it an interstate this is such a pretty area in here look at all the power lines from the hoover dam they've rebuilt all this this interstate 11 will actually go all the way down to phoenix one day here's a roundabout okay we want to get on 93 and 11 south now just on the other side of the freeway is the entrance to hoover dam in case you're ever down here you can go at it's about two three miles a road then you have to go through uh security where they search your car and then you park in the regular car you can park pretty close and this thing the van i got a hike always but in saying that we'll i'll definitely come up here definitely do [Music] the hoover dam one of these days with or without water it's something to see you know years ago you could drive straight across the dam but we're almost back in arizona you know what we left the middle of april of this year have not been back home since i believe i'll have to do an official count 18 states close to 10 000 miles we've experienced so many back roads small towns blue ridge parkways west virginia ohio pennsylvania tennessee my goodness oklahoma texas new mexico plus all the dakotas wyoming all kinds of places okay this should be it coming up right here this is the big bypass bridge for the hoover dam and we're crossing the colorado river right here can't really see much they really got the concrete high on these things but here we go took them several years to build this thing and on the other side guess what we just left nevada and welcome back arizona we did it we absolutely did it [Music] what a great here it is arizona yay what a great summer travel
