hey what's up hello my name is emma and today i am doing my bookshelf tour i have not done a bookshelf tour in about three years now and you guys have been absolutely begging me for it so i'm really happy i finally got the chance to sit down and film it all i just counted how many books i have right before filming this and i now have over 800 books my last count is like 808 so give or take a few so i'm going to go through all of my bookshelves i have these four cases here and then there's two more cases right here totaling i believe 36 shelves to answer the two most asked questions about my bookshelf these are all the billy bookshelves from ikea in white and my lights are all from target and i just simply hold them up with scotch tape now my preferred method of bookshelf organization is by genre so pretty much every shelf is grouped together by a common theme and because i know there's going to be some books that you probably don't care to see and bookshelf tours are very long i'm going to leave some time stamps in the description to different genres so you can hop around to the books that you really want to see and i think there's also a feature in youtube that lets you do like cards or breaks or something so i'll try that too there is one more thing that i'd really like to just quickly get out before we start typically with my bookshelf tours i start at the very top which happen to all be my harry potter shelves harry potter has become a bit of a controversial topic especially in the last few months in light of jk rowling's recent comments about the trans community and while i'm working through these complicated feelings myself of disagreeing with this author very strongly but having a deep love for this series i'm left a little conflicted on what to do about giving like strong avid promotion of these books versus pretending like i don't have a bunch of shelves dedicated to them so what i have decided and personally comfortable with is i will briefly show you the shelves and you can pause them and explore them if you would like you can go back through my old bookshelf tours if you would like me to talk more about them but right now i just feel a little uncomfortable dedicating a lot of time talking to harry potter i hope you guys are okay with that compromise so i'm going to quickly show you those shelves and then we will jump right into the in-depth bookshelf tour so this is my first harry potter shelf that has all of the us hardbacks as well as my playbills from the cursed child play and also the illustrated editions this is my second harry potter shelf that has my french editions and this is my final harry potter shelf with the original uk hardbacks and the new illustrated paperbacks by brian selznick so this is mainly my rick riordan shelf but i also have the magisterium series by cassandra clare and holly black over here i have the trials of apollo series which i have not read yet the magnus chase and the gods of asgard series which i've read the first book in and i really want to continue because i greatly enjoyed it then i have the illustrated edition of the lightning thief here is the heroes of olympus series which again i've read the first book in and really want to continue at some point the percy jackson and the olympian series which i absolutely adore and this is the paperback edition where all three of them come together on the spines to create this picture of waves and lightning and the new york city landscape and then like i said before i have the magisterium series by holly black and cassandra clare and i believe all of these are signed by both of the authors because i had went to a couple of their signing launch parties now i'm going to go into my shadowhunter chronicles shelves i have four in total and this is the first dedicated specifically to the mortal instrument series which of course is my all-time favorite in total i have 90 copies nine zero copies of books from the shadowhunter chronicles for me to go through in the next four shelves i have books in about 18 different languages and if my last count is correct i believe i have 28 copies of just city of bones a lot of people would think that having so many copies of the same books is like wasteful or unnecessary but i really love collecting them my collection is valued at like thousands of dollars and i love having different books and trinkets and whatnot that are associated with the world that means so much to me i have two necklaces that are hanging off of my lights this one is isabelle lightwood's ruby demon detecting necklace i believe this is inspired from the design from the movie studio bones that came out in 2013 but i bought it on ebay and then over here we have the morgenstern ring necklace this is a part of the official merch from the movie i have a replica mortal cup which i recently got in fairy loot's special exclusive chain of gold box i think it's really cool it seems like a perfect scale of the mortal cup and it has like a glass cups you could actually drink out of it which is really cool i have this amazing jace funko pop that was custom made for me by a subscriber they gave it to me at yallfest a couple of years ago and i absolutely love it i have a stele that i also got as a part of the hot topic city of bones movie merch i wonder if the light still works oh it does that's sick i of course have my dvd of the city of bones movie which i have seen way too many times to count and finally for my little trinkets i have my isabel lightwood whip snake bracelet this one actually is not a part of the official movie merch so that one was kind of more like a cuff but i really like this one because it's able to move like an actual like with wood i have the tv tie-in edition of city of bones from the television adaptation shadowhunters these two are actually the original covers for city of bones and city of ashes in the uk i did some book trades to get them and i just love having them as a part of my collection they are just like so classic 2000s fantasy then i have the city of bones mass market paperback and over here i have a really sweet version of city of bones that was annotated by one of my subscribers so she sent me a letter and all throughout there's like different page tabs and she doodles in it for the parts that she liked and it was so much fun looking through so i love keeping this as like a very special personal gift these are the special uk paperback edition of the mortal instruments series i really love these like monochromatic covers but each different symbol is super detailed if you look closely and has a lot of different scenes and objects and whatnot from each individual story i initially bought these a couple of years ago on book depository i believe this is the official us movie tie-in for the city of bones movie and then these are the first three installments and i believe the only ones currently out for the graphic novel i believe there's only one more that needs to be released so each is just like a portion of city of bones and together they make the whole story and they're all illustrated by cassandra jean then i have the us hardback original editions of the mortal instruments and all of these are signed by cassie claire which makes me so happy hiding behind there i have the mortal instruments official coloring book i believe there is a video somewhere on my channel of me doodling in here then i've got the new paperback editions of the mortal instruments which as you can see before or after when i put them back up they have these spines that come together to make one picture and lastly i have this annotated and illustrated version of city of lost souls which was gifted to me for my birthday one year from my friend jenna from jenna claire k so she did a lot of like drawing and there's some like cool collages in here um so it was a really cool and special gift and then this is the barnes noble exclusive collectors edition of city of bones which has the short story awake about jace in the back of it so that is my main collection for specifically the mortal instruments series i get so much joy looking at this shelf and all of the ones i'm about to show you every single day alrighty so this is mainly my infernal devices shelf but i do have some of the other shadowhunter novellas and extra books as well as the 10th anniversary editions of some of her books first i have these little character tarot cards which i got from illumicrate and they obviously show will tessa and gem i have this little steli keychain that i got from hot topic around when the city of bones movie came out i have this clockwork angel necklace i believe i got this from topatco at bookcon last year i have this angelic rune candle that has a couple of other different mortal instruments runes around the side of it and it is from the very first fairy loot box ever next i have this city of bones perfume that was gifted to me by a subscriber when i was in france last year and this is such a cool item i've never seen this before but i'm really happy to have this on my shelves then i have this will herondale plushie i believe i got this through fake crate for their queen of aaron darkness like hangover recovery kit then i have this deck of tarot cards which is also from topatco but i ordered this one online there's literally too many cards for me to show you them all but they all have like different suits and illustrations of characters from the shadowhunter chronicles and then the last little trinket i have on my shelf is my replica mortal cup i made this entirely myself from scratch out of clay so i sculpted the whole thing i carved it and painted it all myself and it's definitely not perfect but it's the first thing i ever made out of clay and i'm really impressed by it as for the books i have all of the novella bind ups the bane chronicles tales from the shadowhunter academy and ghost of the shadow market and behind those books i actually found this shout out hunter's guide to london in the early 1900s so it has a map of london and different important places that we go to in chain of gold so i'm actually going to move this right on over to my chain of gold shelf then i have the shadowhunters codex which is written by cassandra clare and her husband joshua lewis and then i have two different copies of an illustrated history of notable shadowhunters and denizens of down world if i am correct there is no real difference on the interior of these books they just have different outsides i got this one at topazco.com and i believe i bought this one on book depository so they all have little character profiles and a portrait drawn in the language of flowers and those are illustrated by cassandra jean and it's just a really cool little novelty book for anyone who's a big fan of the shadowhunter chronicles then i have what is considered like the graphic novels or i believe technically it is drawn in a manwa art style of the infernal devices then i of course have the us hardbacks of the infernal devices series and all three of these are signed by cassie i have a copy of the midnight air which is one of these stories from the bane chronicles and i picked this up in a book shop in paris i think they've only published a few of the bane chronicles in these little books but i'd like to collect them all and i also have the paperback box set of the infernal devices with the really cool paperbacks that have the drawn spines and then i have the 10th anniversary editions of city of bones and clockwork angel both of these have really gorgeously illustrated end pages some character portraits and probably some extra content as well and so that concludes my infernal devices shelf so next we have kind of like my most recent cassie shelf i guess you could consider it it has the dark artifices books the eldest curses series and also all of my editions of chain of gold first i have this little plushie of magnus bain and i got this at bookcon 2019 the last one i bought it at the topazco booth these were initially given away as like a free giveaway item in i think bookcon 2018 but i didn't get to that drop in time so i'm really glad that i ended up being able to purchase one later next i have these character cards that were designed by charlie bow water and they feature some of the main characters of the last hour series i believe i got these as a part of like the promotional items when i got my advance reader copy of chain of gold but on the back of them it has like some identifying information and cool facts about all the characters and then these other cards were designed by agustia on instagram and i think i might have gotten these at bookcon or else in like a different promotional item and these are all different character postcards or maybe they're considered tarot cards for uh the dark artifices series so first we have the gorgeous canvas band and gold foiled water stones exclusive edition of the dark artifices series these all have like a stamp or maybe one of them is like actually signed by cassie and then they typically come with some extra content as well i apparently also have a little book plate of cassie's signature hiding back here i have the us hardback editions of the dark artifices series and all of these are signed by cassie these are the new paperback editions of the dark artifices when you put them all together they have a sketch scene on the spine but they all have the same original us covers everyone always asks me where i got these because they apparently might be harder to come by i definitely bought lady midnight when it first came out in paperback and then i'm pretty sure these two i was sent by the publisher so sorry that's not helpful then i have my two copies of the red scrolls of magic firstly the normal u.s hardback and then the waterstones exclusive edition then finally we have the u.s hardback of chain of gold this one is signed by cassie this is the fairy loot exclusive edition of chain of gold that has the same canvas cover with the gold foiling and then it has black sprayed edges with a stencil out of cortana and the books tag line on the back it's definitely one of my favorite special editions i actually also have a friend that's sending me the illumicrate edition which i'm really excited for and lastly i have i think this is the uk paperback of lord of shadows so that is my dark artifaces and last hour shelf i think in the future what i'd really like to do is i'd like to have chain of gold with the infernal devices because those two series are kind of like sequels to each other this shelf has been one of the most difficult for me to organize because these books are all so big but i think i've finally settled on a positioning in an organization that i'm happy with for now and so finishing out my shadowhunter shelves we have what is probably the most unique and special of them all and this is my shelf dedicated to the foreign editions of cassie's books if i am correct these two are the only ones i bought myself in bookstores i found this one in a bookstore in america and this one i picked up in a bookstore in france the overwhelming majority of them were all sent to me by many of you guys who watch my channel and often live in many of these countries or at least having them in your heritage and out of the kindness of your heart you decided to send them to me to add to my collection and i really would not have any of this if it wasn't for you so i'm really thankful and i try my very best to individually thank you guys when i do get a package from you but for now i'm just going to go into like the different covers and hopefully the different languages like i said there's 18 languages on here i only can speak and understand one of them and i can see a lot of people being like why do you have a ton of books that you could never read but it's really about like the specialness of having them sent to me by you guys and represent the different places that you're from so we have the hebrew edition the spanish edition the swedish edition and these two are both in french this is book one and book two i didn't mention this before but unless i specified these are all just different versions of city of bones so this is city of bones in lithuanian and these two giant beautiful books are the entire mortal instruments series divided into the first trilogy in the second trilogy in italian so gorgeous one of my absolute favorites so this is city of bones in german and then this is clockwork princess in german this is the czech edition of city of bones this is like the original cover of city of bones in italian and then this is the brazilian special edition which is really cool because it has this like reflective cover on it which is awesome so these two little books are city bones in japanese just divided into two installments this is the finished edition of city of bones and then these two are actually tails from the shadowhunter academy split into two installments and i believe these are the russian editions i want to believe this is city of bones in russian as well then i have the vietnamese editions of lady midnight and lord of shadows and then finally the chinese possibly considered mandarin version of city of bones and then i think we have the dutch version the bulgarian version i have lady midnight in german and i believe this is another copy of city of bones in german i also have a couple of chapter samplers that i like to save because it kind of shows that like i was a part of this fandom and whatnot before the release of this one so i have all of the chapter samplers from the dark artifices series then i've got the red squirrels of magic and chain of gold and lastly i have this little booklet of classic tales reimagined in the world of the shadowhunters this was a pre-order item for our possibly chain of gold or maybe like queen of air and darkness and essentially they are like classic tales as it says but as like people from the shadowhunter world as the main characters and they're all illustrated by cassandra jean and that is the last of my shadowhunter shelves of course these are some of my favorite shelves out of my entire bookcases and they have some of the most special books that like i will treasure for the absolute rest of my life so next up we have my mental health fiction shelf if you watch a lot of my videos you probably know that i'm getting my master's in clinical mental health counseling and for many years pretty much since i've started being a reader again i've been really interested in reading books that detail the experiences of people living with different mental health conditions i've read almost every book on the shelf which makes me really happy so i'm just going to showcase a few favorites of mine definitions of indefinable things by whitney taylor talks about two teens living with depression challenger deep is a national book award winner and it is a story about a young boy living with schizophrenia little in lion by brandy colbert is a fantastic book about family dynamics and when living with someone who has bipolar disorder and a tragic kind of wonderful is another really great book about bipolar disorder i recently read heroin by mindy mcginnis which is all about a high school softball star who falls into the world of a heroin addiction and it was absolutely profound eliza and her monsters is a really cute story about a girl living with anxiety i believe social anxiety there's also a character who has selective mutism let's call it a doomsday is a hilarious story about a friendship between two girls and there's a huge theme of mental health and anxiety and under rose tainted skies by louise gornall is an own voices novel as the author and the main character both live with issues like agoraphobia anxiety i believe ocd and self-harm as well and then closing it out i have winter girls by laurie house anderson this is the uk cover which i find really pretty what i lost by alexander ballard is my favorite novel about anorexia that i've ever read four weeks five people by jennifer you is a really great story as it follows five different teens dealing with a variety of different mental health conditions like ocd depression a dissociative disorder and personality disorders and they all go to like a therapy retreat together every last word by tamara ireland stone is a favorite of mine and it deals with a girl who lives with pure obsessional ocd and then turtles all the way down by john green which is another own voices novel as john green and the main character both have ocd so that is my mental health fiction shelf it is definitely one of my favorites again the spines are like really beautiful all together but there's so many beloved stories i have on here that i love giving the chance to give like an extra spotlight to this is another shelf i adore which is my lgbtqiap plus fiction shelf now i obviously have way more books than this that deal with lgbt themes but these are all like why a contemporaries and the shelf is obviously a favorite of mine because of the rainbow i have going on here i'm very dedicated to it again i've also read many of the books on this shelf so i figured i'd start off with a few that i'm excited to read like felix ever after by case and calendar we are okay by nina lacour state gold by totally mcsmith final draft by riley redgate and radio silence by alice oseman also clearly i like collecting different country editions and different language editions of money on my favorite books so i really like having all of adam silvera's works in the uk covers which i just find really unique and cool on to some recommendations seven ways we lie by riley redgate is a really interesting story and it has a pansexual character as well as an aromantic a sexual character the last to let go is a really profound story about domestic abuse and how it affects the lives of children but the main character is a lesbian girl made of stars has some great commentary on sexual assault and rape culture in our world but there is a like gender fluid side character and also the main character is bisexual i believe and i recently ride the black flamingo by dean ada which won the stonewall book award and it follows a young mixed race gay teen who gets involved in the drag world so that concludes my lgbtqiap plus shelf this one honestly gets filled up so quickly there's obviously not a lot of room left so i'm constantly having to take off books that like i'm not interested in anymore or ones that i did not like as much in order to make room but i'm super happy with the way it is so far so i kind of considered this one my like science fiction series favorites shelf all these books kind of have like a futuristic sometimes dystopian setting and it deals with like a lot of technological advances or sometimes like science fictiony supernatural powers but these are like my why a hall of fame personally i've got warcross and wild card by marie lu i absolutely loved warcross and wild card was unfortunately a really big left down so sometimes i kind of like to think of warcross as like a standalone sci-fi that is fantastic i've got the darkest mind series by alexandra bracken this is one of like the first series that i bought myself and they're all actually like signed by alexandra brecken which is really cool because she's another favorite author of mine i haven't actually read the darkest legacy yet but i really want to then i have the renegade series by marissa meyer which is a favorite favorite of mine like one of my all-time favorites these are all also signed by marissa meyer the arc of a side series by neil shusterman this is another like super high up on my all-time favorites lists i have not finished the toll yet but i'm really trying to get through it before the end of the year and i believe these two are also signed by neil shusterman and lastly i have the lunar chronicles series by marissa meyer super iconic why a science fiction retellings of fairy tales and i just realized i actually have the main series signed by marissa meyer which is super cool and that is my main science fiction shelf this one has gone through like a lot of changes over the years and i feel like i finally have a group of books that just like feel good together then over here we have my why a mystery thriller shelf i've got a lot of favorites on here like the charlotte home series by brittany cavallaro which is kind of like a retelling of sherlock holmes and john watson the natural series by jennifer lynn barnes i unfortunately didn't love the last two books in this series as much but it totally gives me a lot of nostalgic feelings because they were an absolute favorite of mine when i was a teen my top series on the shelf has to be truly devious by maureen johnson and a couple of standalones i really liked are the truth about keeping secrets by savannah brown genuine fraud by e lockhart and sadie by courtney summers a good well-written y.a mystery thriller is such like a comfort feel good book for me and i'm really excited to get more and add some to my collection moving it on down we have the first of my fantasy shelves this has kind of just become like my vampire shelf i don't know why that is because i don't have any other shelves dedicated to like a specific mythical creature but i guess i've always had a lot of them and they just feel like they've always fit together better than being spread out through my other shelves i obviously have the twilight series and the special anniversary edition of twilight including life and death which is like the gender bent remix of it while i was going through some like storage boxes a little while back i found these iconic twilight postcards that were just like a relic from me being 13 and obsessed with twilight so i like to keep them on my shelf oh my god look at that so i like keeping them on my shelf next to my twilight books because there was such a try hard back then the coldest girl in coldtown and the beautiful are two great vampire books this one is actually a standalone and i am dying for there to be a sequel written in the future and i'm really looking forward to the beautiful sequel the damned coming out this year then i have the vampire academy series by rochelle mead i have most of these signed as well which is pretty cool and the bloodline series these are just like classic fantasies for me the chronicles of vladimir todd is a really fun like middle grade slash ya series i picked this up in high school before i even joined booktube and i reread it a few years later but if you're looking for books about teenage vampires i highly recommend these and over at the end i have carry-on by rainbow rowell which i'm super excited now have matching covers but i actually have the original dust jacket of carry-on hiding under here in case i ever want to switch it back that's it for my first fantasy shelf so this shelf is kind of like my high fantasy favorites i definitely read more widely when it comes to urban fantasy and it's my preferred genre but these are some of the high fantasies that i really love i absolutely adore these new paperback versions of the grishaver series by leigh bardugo i've got the fairy loot edition of language of thorns which is like the fairy tales and mythical stories of the graciaverse and then i also have the uk collectors edition of six of crows and crooked kingdom which are just so gorgeous i actually carried this big ass book home from my trip to the uk because i thought it was just destiny that it was there and i needed it to match my other edition six of crows in crooked kingdom are both signed by leigh bardugo which makes me incredibly happy i have serpent and dove and the sequel blood and honey by shelby paherin and of course an emma books favorite of fire and stars by audrey colthurst which is just like one of my favorite queer fantasies ever i have the stunning uk editions of strange the dreamer and use of nightmares by laini taylor i've only read the first one which i absolutely loved and i would really like to get to music nightmare soon but honestly i'm just going to be absolutely devastated the day i don't have any more room my bookshelf and i have to turn this one like spine out instead of face out next i have my little amanda foodie collection which is all of the us hardbacks and the uk paperbacks these are some of my absolute favorites please read these and closing it out heartless by marissa meyer and the first two books in the legends of orisha series by tomiadiemi and i'm super happy that all three of these are signed and so that is my current fantasy favorite shelf honestly since putting blood and honey on this is like stuffed i can't really fit any more bugs on here so i feel like i'm gonna have to do a little bit more rearranging soon over here i have another fantasy shelf i have a many of these i would consider most of these like urban fantasy slash paranormal or supernatural i have a little holly black shrine over here i just feel like they all look so good together i actually have two full sets of the folk of the air series i have all of the black barnes and noble exclusive editions and then i have the normal white ones the diviner series by libba bray an absolute favorite of mine this original cover of the diviners is like one of my favorite book covers of all time and i like cannot understand what caused the publisher to have so many different cover changes the afterlife of holly chase y'all know it's a favorite of mine this is the best christmas story for you to read to get into the holiday season it is like a super fun remixed version of a christmas carol and i think at this point i've read it four times in the last three years and i'm super excited to read it again this december i have just a couple of my victoria schwab y a books the the savage song series or the monster severity series and the archived and the unbound and lastly the unbecoming of myra dyer series by michelle hodkin so this is my other sci-fi shelf of the science fiction books that don't fit on like my favorites honestly the main reason why i'm not totally set on this shelf is because from the very beginning of my bookshelves i have been facing my copy of shatter me totally out because i think all of the covers of this are so beautiful and i just haven't figured out the best way to do it with this number of books on this shelf i have really enjoyed both illuminae and gemina by amy coffin and jay kristoff i really need to not only buy a copy of obsidio to have them all match but i also need to read it i also loved the shatter me series when i read it all those years ago i only read the original trilogy but at some point in the future i'd really like to getting the last three books done and read i haven't read the young elites yet but it's definitely been one that i've been keeping on my shelf for many years because i'd like to get to it at some point girl gone viral was really fun it's kind of like a low speculative sci-fi of like what our world could look like in a couple of years with the increase of technology and elusive and deceptive are a series that i picked up very randomly at barnes noble just because i really really loved this cover my memories of the details of this series are not good because i've read it so long ago but at the time i remember loving it so much and it really reminded me of another favorite of mine the darkest minds so that really concludes all of my sci-fi books so this is another contemporary shelf of mine the two contemporary shelves down here that i have are like a little less structured and grouped together like my previous ones but because i love having my books sorted by a common theme i believe all of these books really have something to do with like a serious issue or a social issue the black kids takes place during the la riots in the 1990s monday's not coming focuses on the disappearance of young black girls now as everything deals with abuse which i really enjoyed and i haven't read this ellen hopkins series yet but i believe it deals with drug addiction and some other issues if i'm correct american street has something to do with immigration i read pride which i really enjoyed and that deals a lot with gentrification through a pride and prejudice retelling a light too bright deals with the main character whose loved one is suffering from alzheimer's that's when i really want to get to i believe extremely loud and incredibly close has something to do with 911 this is like a really famous one that i just haven't gotten to yet i believe in my normal yet deals a lot with feminism long way down deals with gun violence i recently read this one it was gorgeous anger is a gift is a lot about like teen activism and police brutality and just racism in general against black and brown folk forward me back to you is a book i really want to read and i believe it deals with like sex trafficking in maybe india that cover is so sick too look at it but jennifer matu is an author i really love i have a couple other of her books right here but this one is in like present and past related to the cuban revolution which sounds awesome so then with this contemporary shelf next door these ones i feel are like a little bit more lighthearted but this is kind of just like other contemporaries i have my john green books right here i recently unhauled one that i like was never going to read and another one that i didn't really like i really loved both of nicola yoon's books everything everything in the sun is also a star your welcome universe is a gorgeous story i absolutely adore it follows a teen who is deaf and has to go to a mainstream school but she's also a like street artist finding yvonne was also super beautiful and i really want to read brady colbert's newest book the boating booth beauty queens is a super fun all girls retelling of lord of the flies and it is just totally worth the read nowhere girls is another favorite of mine that has to do a lot with sexual assault rape and rape culture and noteworthy is one i've really wanted to get to for a long time it follows a girl joining an all boys acapella group so now we have moved it over to my middle grade slash children's shelf the invention of hugo cabre is like an all-time favorite of mine i got it at the scholastic book fair when i was in elementary school what a throwback right and it has like 300 pages of gorgeous sketch illustrations that really help complete and tell the story and there is a movie adaptation called hugo which i also really liked but this is one i definitely like to get back to and reread soon i absolutely adore the morrigan crow series by jessica thousand this is a super fun and whimsical fantasy and it gives you like all the best harry potter vibes the dreadful tale of prosper reading was really fun and i definitely want to get to the sequel i've always been really interested in reading ivy aberdeen's letter to the world because it is a queer middle grade novel on the topic of queer middle grade novels lillian duncan is a great middle grade about bipolar disorder as well as trans kids i have my original copies of the series of unfortunate events by lemony snicket i also got pretty much all of these at my scholastic book fair when i was a kid and unfortunately because i stopped going to those before the series ended i only read up to book 11. so what i'd really like to do is replace these with hardcover so the whole thing matches buy the last two books and then marathon them all and a monster calls by patrick ness is another favorite of mine and i really like this version because they have some really cool illustrations all throughout it and so this last shelf on this row is honestly one of my least favorites right now because it's kind of an amalgamation of different genres that don't really fit in anywhere else i have a couple of like horror novels over here and some thriller overflows then i have some historical fiction which i do not read a lot of pretty much all of my historical fictions fit into like other categories and then i have these like leather and canvas-bound books so i have the complete tales of edgar allan poe the complete collection of sherlock holmes and a copy of emma by jane austen and what i have over here is a book fan so it is made out of like an actual book as you can see but the fan is made out of book pages i actually got this when i was in london at the nottingham bookshop and i just thought it was like such a cool little souvenir to take with me and when i look at it not only is it like a cool thing for me to keep on my shelf but it's also a memory of my trip to london i think we can fit it standing up i actually like that a lot now so the three filled shelves i have done here are all dedicated to my arcs arcs otherwise known as advanced reader copies or galleys essentially these are all early printed versions of books before they are released and they are used for like promotional material to get the word out and reviews about the book i have a pretty large collection of arcs and i have been downsizing constantly because i get sent a lot of them for free by publishers and mostly unsolicited meaning that like i didn't ask for the book and they didn't ask me if i wanted it so i'm constantly trying to narrow it down to the ones that are like my real favorites or ones that this is the only copy of the book that i have and for as long as i've been getting arcs i've always really loved the like look of having them line the bottom of my cases and just be like an entire bottom row of arcs so because they're all pretty tightly packed in here i'm just gonna point out a couple favorites of mine that were like particularly special winter girls is actually my oldest arc because it was published in 2009 that was way before i started in the book community and even knew what an arc was made you up and paperweight were two of the very first arcs i ever got because one of my close friends michael booklion worked at a publisher and every last word was the first arc i was sent for review by a publisher lady midnight by cassandra clare was one of my absolute most exciting moments of receiving arcs i have an unboxing of it on my channel and i just felt so honored to be trusted with an early copy of my all-time favorite author's newest book same goes for tales from the shadow under academy and like all other cassandra clare books the afterlife of holly chase was one of the most exciting arcs for me to come across on books for trade on twitter i was really happy to get it because you all know it's one of my favorites and i'll always be super excited about zenith which i have signed by both sasha and lindsay because it was like the first book by an actual friend that was getting published and i was really excited about it for sasha this is my second arc shelf some absolute favorites on this shelf are of course my cassie claire ones lord of shadows and the red scrolls of magic i was really excited to score a copy of renegades on books for trade and i was super hyped to get a copy of arch enemies from the publisher every time i look at this arc of heartless i think back to bookcon 2016 which took place in chicago and they only had like a very limited number and it was totally one of the most anticipated books to get at the whole event there was just a huge mob of people running to get this book and my friends and i were really lucky to score some of the first tickets and this arc is pretty interesting and unique obviously it is spiral bound and that's because it is like a bound manuscript of the darkest legacy by alexandra bracken sometimes before an arc is even printed with like the final cover and whatnot it'll just be printed as a bound manuscript and this one is really funny and cool to receive because it says my name over every single page so that like if i were to leak it they would know it's my copy so it's always really cool to get like these super exclusive versions of books before they're out and my third and final arc shelf is definitely the most recent ones again gotta give an extra shout out to ghost of the shadow market my dark vanessa i actually found the advanced reader copy like many months before it came out in a bookstore and i picked it up because my friend monica had heard good things about it i ended up reading half of it on the train home and the other half the next day and now it's like an all-time favorite of mine oh and there's actually something really funny about this copy of use of nightmares that i only discovered a few years later so i got a copy of this during book expo of 2018 and i had not read strange with dreamer yet so i didn't actually wait online to like meet laini taylor or try and get a copy of this but i had gone to her publishers like party that they had for booktubers and other reviewers and laini taylor was there so they gave everyone a copy and it got signed by laini taylor and apparently we got a little crazy partying with the other booktubers because it seems i accidentally took home a copy signed for natasha from tashapolis sorry about that natasha i hope you have mine so those are all of the arcs that i currently own and i have one final shelf empty on the bottom of my bookcase i like to keep this open because i know i get a lot of arcs as a booktuber so i'd like to have the space to continue it all along but for right now it ends up being a pretty good storage space when i just need to throw things in my room to keep them out of the way so this corner over here is what i consider my reading nook it has like my couch it's super comfy for me to read on and i also have this floating bookshelf this gives the illusion that the books are obviously floating because no matter what angle you look at it from you can't really see where the shelf is i got this shot from amazon and honestly it's not my favorite i feel like it's just like not the best quality but i feel like there are better ones made out there it's still pretty cool though and it's actually been really useful over the years for keeping books that don't necessarily fit on any of my other shelves they're all super random so up here i have a couple of like childhood books then i have a couple of anthologies i have another children's book seeing gender is a pretty cool like illustrated book all about gender and sexuality this is like a little workbook for writers having like exercises and helping you plan out your story i have a copy of the places you'll go hiding under here which my mom bought for my college graduation which i thought was really cute and down here i have the illustrated book percy jackson's greek gods and the only reason it's over here instead of on my percy jackson shelf is because the shelf itself is like too long and won't fit in like a normal sized book so this is like the only book i have that'll fit it and hanging off of that shelf is this little banner that i got from epic reads day last year i think it was last year and i've gotten these pins from like all different places whether it's like a book a subscription service if it's promotional material from the publisher if i pick them up at bookcon or a book signing but i think it's a really cool addition to my nook so to start off my second set of bookcases this is what i consider my graphic novel shelf i have lighter than my shadow by katie green which i really really like to read sometime soon the watchers guide which is a buffy the vampire slayer type book through the woods by emily carroll that was actually the first graphic novel i ever voluntarily picked up my friend dahmer by derf backdirth which i thoroughly enjoyed both the graphic novel and the movie i have these three pretty pink and queer graphic novels spinning by tilly walden my lesbian experience with loneliness by nagatakabi and laura dean keeps breaking up with me by mariko tamaki and rosemary valero o'connell this one and lighter than my shadow were actually both recommended to me by my supervisor when i was interning for the national eating disorders association because both books deal with themes of eating disorders i have the first two volumes in wires and nerve by marissa meyer which is the spin-off graphic novel series to the lunar chronicles and then i also have the twilight graphic novels which as you can see by like the plastic wrapping i bought these at my local library for like a dollar each actually i'm pretty sure i got these for free because like i didn't have cash on me and i wanted to buy them and the librarian was really nice and was like please just take them then i have the first four installments of the manga death note and these are the black editions which i bought because i think they are so cool i don't watch a lot of anime or read a lot of manga but death note is the one that i continually re-watch and love so i'd really like to get to reading the manga someday then i have these two journals the first kind of accompanies michelle obama's memoir biography and the other one i got sent randomly as like pr for something and it's like a very interesting like tracking your writing journal i believe it's like a 90-day author success novel with like different prompts for you to fill in to keep you organized and on track and normally like something like this isn't a journal that i would keep but i could totally see myself using this when i decide to try writing in the future and lastly i have this interesting little book called london unfurled i bought this in the barnes noble bargain section like many years ago it's difficult to show in the video but essentially it like folds out and is like a perfect scale of the view of london from the thames river and i just thought it was so cool and as someone who has always loved london and it's like my favorite city in the world i think it is just super cool to have so that is my graphic novel shelf next to my shelf is kind of an empty spare one for now i mostly use it to keep all of my book cozies if you've never seen book cozies before or book sleeves they are basically just like a little sleeve for you to slide your books in and keep them protected during travel this one is from book bow and i got it in an owlcrate box i got the stained glass hogwarts one from bucuzi on etsy and it's honestly my favorite i recently got this one in a fairy loot box and it has a quote from a bridget kemner series on it this is another favorite one i should definitely use more this is from fairyloot and it is their chain of gold exclusive one so it has a quote from it on this side and a picture of james herrondell on the back another book sleeve from fairyloot i really love this one because it has a bunch of swords and the bisexual flag colors this is a pretty cool one it's actually another chain of gold book cozy this one was like promo material from the publisher and it has this cool sequin pattern on it where if you swipe it one way it's gold and you swipe with the other it's silver with an angelic rune on it and then the back has the tagline love cut steeper than any blade and lastly i have another fairy loot sleeve that says fear is only your enemy if you allow it to be so all my book cozies just chill up there until i'm ready to use them so this is my adult mystery thriller shelf again this is one of my favorite genres to read so i've read a lot of favorites on here i absolutely loved you by caroline kepnes and i'm a huge fan of the tv show i loved both of karen slaughter's works pretty girls and the good daughter and i'm super excited to read more from her because i feel that she is just a masterful writer and i also was a big fan of the woman in the window by aj finn it's a shame because i adored this book so much and there was a big expose on this author about how he had lied a lot to get through his career and it was all really unfortunate you could definitely look up if you want to know more about it night film by marisha puzzle is one of my all time faves it's super twisty and i have kind of mixed feelings on riley sager's works final girls was pretty fun but i recently picked up home before dark so i'm excited to get to that one and see how i feel about it and i've also recently become a big fan of the women's writing duo greer hendrix and sarah peckinen i really enjoyed the wife between us and an anonymous girl and i'm hoping to get to you are not alone really soon because it's their most recent release i have some of the most notable works from gillian flynn dark places is definitely my favorite and sharp objects has to be my least favorite and nobody has to know is a really fun and interesting book on my shelf because it is actually written by my high school english teacher frank nappy but my favorite fact about mr nappy is that he actually has a film adaptation of one of his books which is so cool he wrote a book called the legend of mickey tesler and it was turned into a film called a mile in his shoes oh and also the fact that like all three of these are different heights absolutely destroys me inside and that is my other mystery thriller shelf that is all adult fiction because this genre is one of my absolute favorites i would really love to eventually have like a favorites mystery thriller shelf and then another one for books that i'm looking forward to reading or maybe i want to keep but just wasn't as big of a fan of so over here we have what i would consider to be like my main why a dystopian shelf the selection series was a fun one at the time i feel like if i rewrite it now as an adult i would not enjoy it as much but i kind of keep it around for the nostalgia divergent of course one of the most iconic y dystopians i actually read divergent for my first book with my high school book club and it was a really exciting time the series that really started the hype the hunger games i just recently read the ballad of song birds and snakes which is like the prequel to the hunger games it got a lot of mixed reviews i personally enjoyed it kind of just being back in the hunger games world and i was really excited because it made me re-watch the movies which was an absolute blast i've got dry by neil shusterman the ugly series which is one of the only ones on the shelf that i haven't read but i would still really like to get to it at some point the program is a series i loved is a teen and i never really gotten around to finishing it and then finally legend by marie lu when i first got into owning my new books i was really into hawaii dystopians and it was one of the first like genre shelves that i had in my bookcases so they're always really special to me to keep around so this is my adult fiction favorite shelf i've pretty much read every book on here and consider it one that i really loved unlike many of my other shelves there's a big combination of different genres here from contemporary historical fiction romance fantasy and whatnot i got this acrylic block that says drink tea and read books from redbubble and i think it's just a really cute addition to my bookshelf there's not a lot of books on the shelf so i will just show you them all i have we're the crawdad sing by delia owens daisy jones and the six and the seven husbands of evelyn hugo both by taylor jenkins reed these two are actually both signed by the author then little fires everywhere by celeste ing and city of girls by elizabeth gilbert i have this incredible version of emma books and the six which was sent to me by a subscriber it's the actual book of daisy jones and the six but with a cool dust jacket that features some pictures of me dressed up as daisy jones ninth house by leigh bardugo which is the signed and exclusive water stones edition my dark vanessa by kate elizabeth russell another copy of daisy jones and the six i believe this is the new uk paperback that was gifted to me by one of my friends jasmine in the uk and also silver linings playbook by matthew quick we have the girls by emma klein volition and ignite by lily paradise fight club by chuck palahniuk and red white and royal blue by casey mcquestion to finish off the shelf we have the shades of magic series by v.e schwab now i've only read a darker shade of magic i haven't gotten to the last two yet but i really loved the first one and v schwab is like a favorite author of mine so i thought it was okay to put them all on the shelf and a recent favorite of mine an absolutely remarkable thing by hank green so that is it for my adult fiction shelf i've only put this one together just recently because of all the adult books i've been reading but it's quickly become one of my favorites well it is a favorite because it's a favorite shelf but it's one of my favorite overall shelves that i have over here i consider this another favorite shelf of mine but this is mostly why a contemporaries as you saw before i have a lot of different contemporary shelves dedicated to mental health and lgbt themes and many others but these are like my favorite favorites above all others i've got quite a few books about feminism and sexual assault like moxie by jennifer matu an absolute favorite of mine speak by laurie halls anderson the way i used to be by amber smith another absolute favorite of mine and the female of the species by mindy mcginnis the two all the boys have loved before series by jenny han far from the tree by robin benway which is a profound story about adoption and a very large expanse of sea by tahara mafi which follows a muslim teen after the events of 9 11. hello girls by brittany cavallaro and emily henry which is a super fun thelma and louise retelling again but better by christine riccio who is of course a fellow booktuber and really good friend of mine and i absolutely loved her debut novel as well heretics anonymous by katie henry a hilarious story about an atheist going to catholic school and fangirl by rainbow rowell one of the most iconic yas about fan culture you could read heart stopper by alice oseman volumes one through three which is an adorable queer graphic novel series if you have not read it yet i highly recommend picking it up for all the good feels clap when you land by elizabeth acevedo a story about two separated sisters nice try jane sinner by leanne olkey which follows a girl recently expelled from high school who starts getting some college credits and finds herself on a big brother-like reality show this song will save your life by leila sayles and one of my favorite reads from my teenagehood about how music has the power to save lives and of course the hate u give by angie thomas a beautiful story about the black lives matter movement and police brutality another elizabeth acevedo book with the fire on high they will try at the end and history is all you left me by adam silvera people kill people by ellen hopkins and let me hear a rhyme by tiffany g jackson and that is my why a contemporary shelf i absolutely love this one not only are there so many great books on it but the colors are so vibrant and pretty and just fill me with all the good feelings when i look at it so these are the rest of my adult books honestly most of the ones i read are on that favorite shelf but there's a lot on here that i'm looking forward to first in the corner here i have my planner this is the planner that i bought for 2020 in 2021 even though i basically had nothing to write in here for all of 2020 because of the pandemic i believe it is from purple planner and i've been using their planners for many years now because of the way that you're able to customize so much of it i just feel like it's really well organized and pretty and has sections for everything i need and then i also have this little jar that says wizarding world of harry potter fund on it when i was graduating college my gift to myself was going to be a trip to the wizarding world of harry potter which i did with a bunch of my friends but my sister made this little jar for me and decorated it with some marker pens for me to save up and so now i actually use it as just like a regular piggy bank that i throw money into like every week as an optional way to save up money that i'm not really missing i haven't read so many of the books on this one i did start jane eyre i haven't got all the way through it yet but i would like to at some point i read the first two books in the crazy rich asian series and i've got to read the last one which i have over there and i've also read the night circus by erin morgenstern which i did enjoy i just feel like many other people in the big community love it a lot more a few books i am really interested in reading are vicious by v.e schwab the starless sea by erin morgenstern the unraveling of cassidy holmes by elisa r sloane which i actually think might be one of my next reads and happy and you know it by laura henkin i used to not read a lot of adult fiction but i've been reading more than ever lately and it excites me to know that i have so many good ones already on my shelf to look forward to so next to that adult shelf i have a completely empty one i really like having an empty shelf in my bookcase because it makes me feel like i'm able to put more books on and it's not ever totally filled but normally what i do is i keep all of the books that i've recently hauled stacked up on here until it's time for me to film a new haul because that way i don't forget any if i'm like already organizing them with all of the other books i have it also makes a nice little shelf that i can just put things on too this is another fantasy shelf that i have i would consider most of these to be like urban fantasy or paranormal because the one next to it is mostly high fantasy these fantasies are definitely not my favorite i've read some and enjoyed some others i haven't really gotten to yet i've really enjoyed the every heart a doorway series which are all very short fantasy novellas with beautiful writing i have read the devouring gray it wasn't a particular favorite of mine but i love this cover so much that i decided to make it face outward everland and umberland are part of a series that i have been wanting to get to for a really long time they are like steampunk retellings of fairy tales like peter pan and alice in wonderland so i'd really like to get to them someday and a couple more i'm interested in reading are a shadow bright and burning because my friend michael bought this for me many years ago and i still haven't gotten to it now entering adamsville by francesca zapia and i caught a witch by nettie okorafor honestly i feel a little bad sometimes when thinking about this shelf because i feel like i might treat them like rejects a little bit of the time but it's just because like not every single book you read can be a favorite and over here are more fantasy books but these are definitely more high fantasy and take place in like very magical worlds very different from our own a few books on here that i've really enjoyed are the hobbit of course by j girl tolkien the three dark crown series by kendara blake the wrath from the dawn duology by renee authier and the court of thorns and roses series by sarah j maas i'm really looking forward to eventually reading ash princess by laura sebastian because i know laura really well and i've had ash princess on my radar for a very long time and also girls of paper and fire by natasha and gone i've heard rave reviews for this one it is like an asian inspired fantasy with a romance between two girls and it just seems like it's going to be great so that makes my last fantasy shelf so at the bottom of this bookcase we have my nonfiction shelf first in this corner i have some book darts which are like little metal page flags that i use to keep track of notes and different scenes that i want to save while reading and then this accordion folder actually holds all of my bookmarks it's a mess because i have so many but it's honestly a really great way for me to keep them all organized in this stack i have a bunch of different psychology and mental health related literature two of my favorites are life without ed and goodbye ed hello me which are memoir self-help books about eating disorders i also really enjoyed how to control your anxiety before it controls you i wrote a paper on that during grad school and i'm also really excited to read on becoming a person by carl rogers and i hate you don't leave me understanding borderline personality disorder i have some true crime non-fiction first i'll be gone in the dark by michelle mcnamara which is all about the golden state killer and then i have a couple of books on charles manson as i wrote a paper on him in college as well i particularly have read the life and times of charles manson which i really liked over on this stack i have a bunch of different memoirs a few favorites of mine are in the country we love by diane guerrero becoming by michelle obama and unfiltered by lily collins i have a couple of anti-racist texts as well like how to be an anti-racist by april max kendy and why are all the black kids sitting together in the cafeteria by beverly daniel tatum that concludes my nonfiction shelf i don't read a ton of non-fiction but i do pick up a book every once in a while and they're always really refreshing and enlightening to read and coming to a very anti-climactic end i have my textbook shelf i rented many of my textbooks during college but i've always found it worthwhile to invest and purchase my own copies of certain textbooks that have topics i think i will use in the future firstly it's really helpful for me because i'm a big highlighter and i love highlighting my notes so that i know exactly the important information i want to go back to i also frequently use my old textbooks as sources for papers and projects that i'm working on in grad school but the main reason i try to buy some of my textbooks is because i can really see myself referring back to them when i'm working as a counselor and need more clarification or information on a certain subject some of my favorite textbooks from grad school so far have been developing multicultural counseling confidence counseling theory and practice and the world of the counselor i also have my own copy of the dsm which has all the necessary information and diagnostic criteria for all mental disorders i definitely don't read these books leisurely on the regular and they are by far not the most entertaining books on my shelf but they are a large part of my identity as a counselor and it's really nice to have that represented also on my bookshelf so that is my entire bookshelf tour all 36 shelves all 800 books i just absolutely love my book collection more and more over time it's not necessarily about owning more books for me it's about the fact that i get really unique books books that have changed my life and ones that i'm really excited to get to in the future in the comments below i would love to know what shelfs were your favorite if you saw any of your favorite books or any thoughts you might have on some of mine but that is it for this video thank you guys so much for watching and i'll see you soon for a new one [Music] [Applause] [Music] bye
