oh hello everyone I'm Christina dandar of the Potted boxwood and I am so excited to bring you this beyond the curb tour that's brought To Us by Davis Hahn Lumber who did some of the beautiful Millwork and windows and doors in this home this is a home of my dear friend and Bible study teacher Amity Gillespie and I think you're in for a real treat today just look at some of the gorgeous casings and topiaries all throughout her home and those beautiful shutters by C.B Anderson Woodworks and look at how gorgeous this Custom Door is by Davis Hahn welcome I'm so glad you all are here today thank you for wanting to come Christina it is such an honor to get to be on the Potted boxwood oh my gosh Anthony I'm so happy to be here with you um this is a home I'm not frequently these days and Amity and I whether or a Bible study or playing Mahjong um I'm just so excited to show this to all of my fun follower friends well I'm so glad you all are here we built this house with Dennis mullanex of Mullinax Custom Homes and this is the second home we've built with Dennis and we love working with he and his architect Wayne Hall and we wanted this home to feel like a 1920s Highland Park home because it's set in this beautiful location across from Flippin Park otherwise known as Versailles Park and we wanted it to feel like a home that had been here forever so it's definitely very traditional and I can't wait to show it to y'all welcome the first room that we'll look at is the sun room it's my favorite room in the house and I love this beautiful arched opening these windows are so pretty I got the idea from the for them from the Peninsula Hotel just like that yes in Beverly Hills and they have just one individual window and I married two of them to make the baguette diamond that you see and I love that and this room is where we sit and have coffee or visit or as Christina said open the doors and play mahjong and enjoy all the activity of the park and these windows were all by Davis Hahn correct yes and these beautiful French doors as well beautiful beautiful and yes that is where we play Modern right here yes and our family has had the opportunity to live overseas a couple of times so there's nods to our travels all throughout the house and the beautiful Japanese statues are from when we lived in Tokyo and then this bathroom is just kind of a fun little surprise in the home and everybody said you do not need another bathroom but I love bathrooms and this was the one they wanted me to get rid of but I love the mizen porcelain lanterns and the Beautiful PE Garen bird faucet handles are so special and I just love them and the sink is floating just to give a nod to modernity but the bathroom is formal and old school and yet approachable and not too fussy it's absolutely beautiful and I chose the hand-painted grass cloth wallpaper to be a marriage between the fun sunroom and the little bit more casual family room and this is where we enjoy hanging out and watching TV and this room is just comfortable these are recliners from kravit and I love them because they don't scream I'm a recliner and they made my husband so happy and then these Ottomans just pull out and roll everywhere and they're so easy and make it so comfortable to just sit back and put your feet up and this room has tons of natural light which is a theme throughout the whole house I love mixing the old beautiful traditional pieces with the modern iron doors and lots of natural light and then this is probably the most interesting architectural element in the house my husband Keith has the best ideas and he wanted to make a beautiful long Gallery hallway and this is another little surprise in the middle of the house and I just love this long barrel arched hallway standing in the window at the very end yes it's a beautiful leaded glass window that we took from our old house stairwell and then this is our living room and I love a fancy formal living room because I love to get dressed up and wear high heels but I'm actually a really relaxed person and so I love to be in here with a glass of wine when you're dressed up and feeling pretty and that Murano chandelier we found on one of our trips we did not find it in Venice though oddly enough we found it in Budapest and it's very special but my favorite thing in the room is probably well two things I love these sconces they're oversized and extra large and so fun I just love them but that painting is also very special it's by Linda James out of Atlanta and I love it but what I was going to say is my favorite thing are these black Italian 1920 console tables I found those when I was traveling and told my husband oh my gosh it's terrible I've fallen in love and I don't know what to do either I'm gonna have to stay here with these tables or bring them home with me and fortunately he loves them as much as I do and Wayne was so clever architecturally I don't know if you can tell from the video but these walls are angled and with the mirrors they just add a beautiful architectural interest to the home and really stunning and just everything is so cohesive and yet you know formal and comfortable all at the same time oh thank you well this is another bathroom I love bathrooms and that's a theme through this home and it's the bathroom for when you're all dressed up total down three and that bathroom was inspired by the sconces they're by Maison bagay and their original 1920 sconces that he did and I found them and fell so in love with them that I wanted the whole bathroom to be mirrored so you could see them from wherever you were foreign 's covered with smoked mirror and then as you come down this hallway this was kind of a fun architectural detail that's actually really practical and I love these cabinets because they hold all my China that I use for when I have dinner parties and entertain and I can reach everything and it's all right here and Behind These cabinet doors are silver and Crystal and all my napkins and placemats and it's just so practical but it turned out to be so beautiful and you drew what the design of this correct yes I did yes so it's just so beautiful and Amity is a Serial Entertainer so it's really fun to see all the tables you set oh well thank you I love to have my friends over and the formal dining room faces the front of the house and because we're facing beautiful Versailles Park we wanted the front of the house to really give its eye to the park and so when we entertain we open those French doors and it's just beautiful to be here by the park and I love that you have your table set up right now oh thank you I'm having a dinner party in just a couple of days and the fireplace in here is so beautiful it's a very clean lined mantle and I love the old English fireboxes inside they look so beautiful when they're lit and Keith and I first learned about those when we were spending a lot of time in London for his work and I think they're so interesting and beautiful especially inside that little bit more modern mantelpiece and one of the fun details that's unexpected is the trim on the ceiling and I always love to pay attention to the ceilings so in a lot of the rooms in the house there's a special details on the ceiling so so pretty and I love these paintings oh thank you these chairs are really special and fun too we found those in an auction in New York City and I love them and the breakfast room is a little bit small because we have so much storage for our China out here so we just have this cozy beautiful breakfast room I mean excuse me Butler's pantry I love the paint and the wallpaper it's gorgeous oh thank you it's very soothing and quiet well we love this paper so much Amity and I both film um a devotional Bible study on influence by grace and we've actually had her posted up here on the on the counter yeah I think we were sitting maybe on the counter oh my gosh and then this is my kitchen and I love an enclosed kitchen it's very old school most people like an open floor plan but I love an enclosed kitchen and this kitchen I can have all my family in here cooking for Thanksgiving or Christmas and we're all in here enjoying it but it's very clean and everything's hidden I put all my important things behind these doors and it's just very practical and functional but I love that we can all fit in here but it's clean and this is a little bit contemporary and I love this mirror because it just makes the kitchen open up and my neighbors have the most gorgeous oak tree I think maybe in all of Dallas now tell us about this countertop height well I do all of my countertops at 38 inches because it just makes it so easy to cook and mix and stir and you don't have to bend over and all my clients love that I do 38 inch countertops the backs are 38 and I raise the island in additional two inches just because this is where I prepare a lot and it just makes it easier for me and the fabric on these breakfast chairs these are so beautiful oh thank you I love cruel work it's kind of Grandma but this coloration makes it feel fresh and then this is crazily enough we're entering into the second dining room but not really it's the breakfast room and I have two rooms because I'm from Dallas and for all the holidays I have everyone and my family come and I love having plenty of room and this room is just fresh and fun and it feels completely different from the other dining room and this room has these great vinyl chairs so young children can put jellied fingers on them and nothing bad happens and yet it has this elegant fun feeling it really does it's beautiful and I love this feeling the ceiling is cantaloupe lacquer and I love it too and then as you are walking through this room there are magenta and coral and yellow all these colors in this fabulous hand-painted silk wallpaper and this powder bath the third powder bath is really fun and unexpected I think oh my gosh tell us about this artwork isn't this crazy and great so one of my dear friends who's also in Bible study with Christina and I Marquette is an artist and I asked her if she would do this commission for me and I had the acrylic cut in Dallas to be kind of bespoke and it goes underneath the floating sink and comes back around and we cut all the pieces and then she painted this Gloppy awesome abstract art piece with the colors that are in the wallpaper and this pool room that we're about to enter foreign 's just so light and Airy and fabulous tell us about this this is so fun because it goes with the whole rest of the house but it has its own personality and it just feels so like fun and easy and kind of a little bit California and this piece of art is really special and meaningful to us and that's why I have the mirror over the sofa to reflect the art when you're coming into the room but this tells the story of our life in the center panel is Asia Mount Fuji and you can kind of see the Rainbow Bridge going from Narita into Tokyo and the shrine entrance that was right outside our door and then this is the side of the Pagoda and Tokyo Tower and then the panel on the far left has Table Mountain in Cape Town in it and some of the bill bag trees that are famous in Africa and we lived in Johannesburg for a little while also and our family's gone back to Africa quite quite a bit and then the far right panel is Europe because we love Europe and it has the Eiffel Tower and if you stand far enough back you can see some of the arched Windows reflecting on the canals in Venice so that painting is really meaningful because it tells a story and my cute husband is the one that thinks of all these great clever ideas so much why travel quite yes and then this is the room that gets the most action in our house and we're about to enter into the bar and the bar is Chinese Chippendale and I just love it because I feel like it feels like you're in a cool hotel and those lanterns over the bar I found in a flea market in Paris and they're so interesting and pretty and I love mixing the old and the new so beautiful I spend so much time in these chairs having having great drinks the color in here is just fantastic oh thank you this is a really warm and intimate and fabulous room and that art that Christine is showing you now is John O'Donnell from Africa and it's children playing in you you can kind of tell it's Ring Around the Rosie and they're playing soccer and family Legacy is a charity that's super important to us and close to our hearts and so I bought those paintings when my children were very little and now they're so meaningful to my children because they love Africa and the children there and they've spent a lot of time working with the orphans in Africa well let's take a quick just a quick peek at the outside absolutely it's finally getting cool enough in Dallas to enjoy entertaining out here we have this fun awning that extends all the way out to these trees and completely covers this area and I love that because this area can be covered or it can be wide open and we love being out here sitting by the fire and the fountain is going and it's just so much fun it's absolutely gorgeous and I love just that Door and Window play right here as well our children are older and working and living in Dallas and so we didn't do a swimming pool this time because we wanted a house for entertaining and lots of round tables and and a little bit lower maintenance a lock and leave home just perfect and I love how you see these sort of diamond details throughout just kind of on the door in your um you know even in the bar here on some areas in your windows just really fun consistency oh thank you and you can see how the family room is right here off this fun bar and I'll show you all the downstairs basement which is just kind of a fun surprise because this is where we enter and exit pretty much all the time and the wallpaper down here is by a darling girl in London and it's kind of outrageous but really really fun and this piece of art you're looking at as we come down the stairs we bought on a trip to Malaysia and I love all the texture and the color I think she's fabulous foreign this wallpaper is just an unexpected treat this is the door we come in and out of and I just love this explosion of color and flowers it's just so happy so much fun I so this is just a great depository of of golf shoes and all kinds of stuff and we have a very casual workout room and then a downstairs laundry room and when you get off the elevator on this floor you open the doors and that's what you see are all those fun flowers and I just love it oh I just love the consistency of color too throughout there's a it's intertwined yes the pretty blues and corals and greens I'm so happy that you all are here today it's such an honor to be featured on the Potted boxwood and I gosh [Laughter] oh my gosh and now I'll show you all upstairs to the bedroom floor and all of our bedrooms are on the second floor because that's also traditional old home so we put all the bedrooms on the second floor but we do have an elevator for luggage and grandparents and it makes it really simple and easy I just think my painters did a fantastic job in this entry hall is really I think it's just really soothing and pretty and again Maison bagay did the sconces in the entry hall and they were the very first thing we bought for this house and the lantern came from Brussels Belgium and I think it's so beautiful and understated and interesting it's really so so and this beautiful chest we bought in Salzburg Austria and I saw it in the window and loved the gorgeous hardware and my cute husband again was so generous and let me have it and I bought it for the downstairs entry hall but then I just thought it would be too heavy so I put it up here in the leaded glass window instead I think it's just to the perfect spot now where are we coming in this this is my daughter would say it's her room and my sister would say it's her room but this is our guest room and I love this room it's a beautiful pharaoh and ball color called blackened on the ceiling and it's a lavender that has a lot of gray in it so it's not too little girlish it's a very sophisticated lavender it really is sophisticated out and that light fixture is so pretty in that beautiful that's another Murano you can tell that I love them and this room looks out on the park and just feels like a tree house it's so special I feel like I feel like a like a treehouse love being able to yes it's so beautiful and the lights and the trees across in the park are so soft at night and it's just beautiful and then this bathroom goes back to my love of everything Asian and I love this fabulous Schumacher wallpaper and the purple colorway it's so happy and cheerful and fun and these beautiful drapes and shower curtain and detail are done by my wonderful drapery Lady Grace and she is just Exquisite and pays attention to every detail and this room gets a lot of use we have house guests all the time Anthony I love all just the the mill work and molding that's done in here did you really you know it gives it a that's the old world sense did you oh thank you you have a lot of impact yes look at these details here yes this is our office and I love these doors to me I was inspired by walking past places in Paris where they had the really tall skinny double doors with the beautiful hardware and I had these doors in my old house and wanted to replicate them here because they were so beautiful and my art TV is an art TV that we can't figure out how to work because we're not smart enough but I love this black lacquered room it's so unexpected and again it faces out at the park and that's a beautiful painting of Bali and I bought that long before any of us had ever been there but now it's become one of our favorite vacation spots it's stunning and that's our favorite art light on top of it yes that Amazon battery operated art light that we love and then this room is like I said very warm and interesting and I love the black lacquer and we put mirrored cabinets in this little alcove and they reflect the art that's in there and it kind of draws you back going what's happening back there and what's happening back there is chaos that's where all the sausage gets made and then this bathroom I love take a peek in there notice the Pagoda above the sink oh wow that's so pretty and the baseboards are scalloped marble which my marble people were not very excited about doing but they loved it when it was finished and I said my children are adults and live in Dallas so they have their own Apartments but this is the room that we would say is my son's room and it's kind of earthy and not too feminine and a little less fussy and I love this guest room so pretty I love the Navy this is hail Navy by Benjamin Moore and my sister Amberly white who's also a designer in Atlanta Amberly white designs she talked me into this color and I love it she kept telling me don't worry it's not going to be too dark it'll be beautiful and I I just love it she really was very inspirational in this whole room coming together and I love having the two queen size beds because I hope I have lots of grandchildren someday and I want room for all of my children to bring home their kids and enjoy being here and one kind of fun thing I did in that bathroom is I put the tile in the Cabinetry and and set it and I believe that wallpaper in the bathroom is by fabric cut and it's just taupe and cream but it just adds a little bit of dimension and on the top floor we have a bedroom a bathroom and a whole huge playroom but I don't think our viewers probably care about seeing that and then this is so fun we wanted this Archway here because it feels almost like a small Hobbit Archway it's actually seven feet two or four inches but it feels old house quirky interesting and with the arch door I just think it's so fun and unexpected so I love this and I wanted this room to feel like a French hotel room and I think it does my mom loves this room this is where she stays she also lives in Dallas but she spends the night I think that's so fun they have such a great family Dynamic yes we love to be together and these lanterns were in my old house entry hall and the people didn't want them so I brought them here and thought they'd be so interesting hung his bedside table lamps I think that's such a clever idea you never see it and then this bathroom is definitely the money bathroom this one's so fun and exciting oh I love the paper isn't that fun that's escal paper so it's not hand painted but oh my gosh it's so fun and it reminds me of my most favorite girls trip I've ever taken which was to India and I love the India Palace and it's it's so overwhelming and fabulous and cheerful and great and the Cheryl Wagner sink looks like it was hand painted to go with the wallpaper another fun fact we also filmed a Bible study while Amity sat right up on that toilet on top of it no I'm not on it on the back of it oh my goodness and I love doing unexpected things in architecture and so this wall was supposed to be straight across and I wanted this to be an inset for that little Frank Hollywood Regency sofa and so we just measured it out and tucked it back in there and I think it just makes it so much more architecturally interesting foreign and then this is our upstairs laundry room and it's just a cute cheerful little space but perfect because it's by all the bedrooms so it makes it so easy and great all the all the dirty clothes are right there and then this is so fun and pretty this is the entry haul to the master bedroom and I love the heavy lacquer and the arch doors and this beautiful Hardware is so special and this is our bedroom and we wanted this to feel like a French apartment and I think it does and again it feels like a tree house also because it looks right out on the park I mean again all the Millwork detail is just incredible and it has grass cloth panels inside and it's really it's really beautiful they did a great job and it's sweet to see sort of the pop of the pretty yellow one here as well and we did did the inspiration for this bedroom we knew we wanted it to feel like a French apartment but I found this bedding and it's just beautiful embroidered silk and butter yellow and French blue and on that girl's trip to India and I wanted this to be the Inspiration Point for the colors in the bedroom and it turned out so pretty and then I found this gorgeous Barbara flowers piece of art in Atlanta and I love Barbara flowers art and this is a street scene of Paris so it just makes me so happy and it goes perfectly in here and then the bathroom is kind of everyone's favorite I love the sun room best but most people like my bathroom best oh I it's a toss-up it's a tie for me I love this wallpaper it is fabulous and that's why I wanted it in my bathroom so I could enjoy it all the time I love the lemons they just add such a fun unexpected pop of bright yellow well it kind of picks the back up on your your main Master area yes exactly exactly it all goes together and I loved this window situation because in your master bathroom is where you want all the natural light putting on your makeup and all the things that we do in our bathroom we want that natural light and this allows us to get all the natural light without having any privacy issues and I love this window situation it's just so beautiful and that's the Holy Spirit dove in the window so pretty and my husband is a neat freak and loves everything neat and tidy I do too but he really does so he loves cabinet doors in a closet so our closet is completely covered with cabinet doors and it is so peaceful and soothing and these light fixtures are air and Lauder from Visual Comfort Aaron Lotter and they're so fun and happy our home most of the lighting if you've noticed is found in different places that we've traveled but these are some of the rare pieces that you can actually just buy and this was Geraldine rockefeller's makeup desk and I found this at auction and I love the coloration of it with the bottom of this wallpaper paper it just makes me so happy and I didn't have anywhere to put that fabulous old Venetian mirror and I found this actually in Italy I believe if I remember correctly a long time ago and it was in a powder bath and I just decided to hang it in that window and I I think that's kind of fun and clever we've also filmed a Bible study with me sitting on top of this countertop just love going back through the bathroom and seeing all the beautiful wallpaper everything's just so cohesive upstairs oh thank you thank you all so much for being here we want to especially thank Davis Hahn Lumber who sponsored this tour and partnered um with us together and did the beautiful doors and windows of amby's home is you hopefully saw this home is full of joy and enthusiasm just like Anthony's personality and I'm just so grateful to um be able to spend a lot of time here with you whether it's with Bible study or Mahjong or drinking wine and that beautiful Pagoda bar I'm just so grateful for the blessing that you are in so many people's lives especially mine oh it's such a treat to have you all here and share my home with you we're just so grateful that this is our home when we get to live here and I'm just delighted to get to share it with you today oh
