hey everyone thanks for stopping by this is retr funte so today I have a first impressions video of a device that I just got in the mail I'm super excited to check this device out here is the am bernick RG 556 now the thing that is so exciting about this device is that it's a contender with the retroid pocket 4 Series the cool thing is it's a little more ergonomic than the rp4 series and it has a bigger screen that is OLED yes that that's right it's OLED so in this video we're going to unbox it check it out and get my first impressions I'm sure there will be many more videos to come so stick around and let's go check out the device so let's unbox this thing in the box we have a micro SD card of 128 gigs we'll get to the device here in a second and look there's a screen protector there's also a pretty hefty [Music] manual there's a USBC to usba cable and some wipes for the screen protector oh hey look they sent me the black color I actually didn't open this device until just now when I was starting to film this because I mean why call it a first impressions video if it's not going to be my first impressions so I wanted to be honest with it and my first impressions are I mean it's nice it's very ergonomic there's a little bit of slick plastic that's uh the the device is made out of the joysticks are okay the buttons feel really nice they're glossy the d-pad is also glossy there's a few buttons that are on the front L1 and R1 are a little clicky but not too bad and L2 and R2 are pretty good too they're actually kind of normal they feel pretty good the buttons on the front are a tiny bit clicky but actually more thunky than anything there's a start and select on the right side and a back button and something that says r on the left side that I'm assuming that has to do with an ambic interface and this is really cool on the bottom there is actually an SD card slot cover that uh is pretty easy to get [Music] open also there's a USBC charging port and a headset Jack and according to what I've read I think that this can do USBC video out so we will test that probably not in this video but more in the review video you can see the vents on the back and the intake at the top and the volume buttons and power buttons are also on the top I am a little bummed I really wanted to get the transparent Blue version but that's [Music] okay there's also two downfire stereo speakers on either side hopefully um my hands don't cover that up but we'll see once we turn it [Music] on and yeah the d-pad it's not recessed it's a little concave tiny bit concave in the middle but yeah we'll see this looks definitely [Music] promising before we turn it on let's go over the specs briefly and I will go over these a little further in details in the review this is an Android device that's running Android 13 you can see that there's 8 gigs of RAM 128 gigs of storage and it comes with and it comes in a couple different colors I have the Black Version here the processor is a uniso t820 and that should actually fall somewhere between the rp4 and the rp4 pro so we should be able to get some pretty decent performance out of this device all right let's boot this thing up oh look there's the cute am bernick Android logo I kind of like that now the configure screen it actually took a few minutes probably 3 to 5 minutes so I'm just going to fast forward through that also while we're waiting for that I'd like to thank Go Game Geek for sending me this review unit Go Game Geek did not see this video beforehand all opinions are my own and no money was exchanged in any way thank you go Game [Music] Geek [Music] and here's a random girl on the screen holding Saturn she must be a giant so you can see that this is just a regular Android screen with all the apps on here there's some goofy [Music] apps let's check to see if there is a software update since I see that over here [Music] and no there isn't hey look there's a game pad tester so let's test out and make sure all the controls work [Music] looks like everything does I wish I had that little screen that shows you whether it's snapping back to the cardinal points or not I like when it's more animated but that's okay everything looks like it's checking out so far fine so that's good it's weird that Apptoid is on here but the Google Play Store is on here as well I don't find anything in aptoid anymore so I just use the Google Play Store but hey you do you all right let's check out PPSSPP I haven't checked out what's loaded so like I said I wanted to this to be a fresh First Impressions video so we're going to see what they've loaded on the card that came with [Music] it [Music] well that looks like a decent amount of games that's pretty cool and hey we have both of the God of War games let's check out Tekken [Music] 6 look at that beautiful screen at first I wasn't impressed but actually now seeing this game uh this device is really nice also I will say that the ergonomics are very welcomed and nice that's one thing I'm not a huge fan of on the retroid devices they seem to have a flatback and don't understand that some people might actually want ergonomics in their life and not as a 3D grip now this isn't as ergonomic as say the Odin 2 or the Logitech g-cloud but it does the trick the controls are also actually really nice as well the buttons don't feel very thunky or hard to press they're kind of pleasant in a way the joysticks are okay I feel like they're a little small but they do the trick at first I was worried about the d-pad because it doesn't have any sort of rubber on the top of it it's just a slick plastic but it works if you're playing a fighting game I don't know it might not be for everybody but because it's just a little slick but so far I haven't had any issues I always like to try out a fighting game game because that's how you really know if the controls are going to work well or not and they seem really good I like the size of the buttons okay so now on to a racing game because that's another test that I like to do let's check out R Ridge Racer for PSP look at the screen I mean look at it it's so good even though I'm having some issues driving it's just I mean this screen is so nice that's actually one thing that I have a gripe about on the retroid pocket devices I really like them but I wish that the screen was just a tiny bit bigger I think the screen size of this device is fantastic because it's 5 1/2 in and it's almost as big as the Odin 2 [Music] screen [Music] batt this shouldn't be a [Music] problem what [Music] happened [Music] and of course the obligatory God of War chains of Olympus test I mean they put it on here so I had to this screen looks really nice it's not having any sort of issues so far running any PSP games but let's see if the frame rate dips a little bit wow look at that screen it's only set on 1X resolution which I'll go a little further with and see what I can get out of it in the review video but yeah it looks great it's not skipping or stuttering at all that I can tell this is going to be an absolutely perfect device for PSP anybody that loves PSP just you definitely need to consider this [Applause] now [Applause] a [Applause] [Music] so if you hit the R button on the left side of the device you can actually go into the front end that Amber neck has set up so we'll briefly go over that user interface and what I saw when checking out the device now I will say that I'm generally not a huge fan of what AM bernick throws on the device but maybe will be a little surprised [Music] here all right let's check out another fighting game looks like this is on Wii they have Wii and GameCube in the same folder which I get because they run on the same emulator but that's just a tad strange because you don't know which game is on which system wow look at that screen I still can't get over it so sorry you're going to hear me say that a [Music] lot well this is pretty cool I'm actually impressed I left the buttons on the screen because I wasn't sure if it was actually going to be configured or if I was going to have to set everything up and it's figured through the am bernick menu I will admit I will say I'm actually impressed because am bernick usually the front end is terrible and it's not set up and you have to sit there and go through everything and there's no directions uh but we have everything at least on this system we'll have to check the others but I have a pretty good feeling if they map the weat controls correctly they did all the others all you have to do is go in and turn off the overlay controls and you're good to go also these speakers are loud I wasn't sure about them at first because of where they are placed my but my hands aren't covering them at all and I actually had to turn the audio down a little bit for the video and also this is really promising this game is running really really well [Applause] [Applause] now let's check out some PS2 and just because it's on here and it's kind of pretty and vibrant we're going to check out this Dragon Ball Z game I mean look at that Sky that's just [Applause] gorgeous and this is also running really really well I'm pretty impressed with it now granted they end up putting games on here that they've tested and that they know that run well but PS2 on this chipset everybody was kind of worried about that and it's running great obviously we'll check out a lot more games in the next video also don't make fun of me I'm terrible at this game I end up just getting distracted at the very pretty sky in the background and I kind of feel like I'm just watching a cartoon cuz it's Dragon Ball Z and it's cool [Music] [Applause] for speech [Applause] fore [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] now I know I wasn't going to show off any 8 bit or 16bit or any of the lower systems but I ended up just playing this off camera and I wanted to point something out that it looks like there's some sort of filter probably bilinear filtering that is on here so for anyone that is going to get this and probably just keep it at stock and not change much settings uh you definitely want to make sure that you go into the settings and change that and turn it off unless you like it and if you do then that's totally cool I always end up turning it off because then you can see that it's a little more pixelated it's not too bad but you know it brings it back to the original form and it looks like it's actually on the Master System and just to note there's three dots at the top right corner if you click on those that'll bring you to the menu then you can go into the settings and change a few things [Music] around [Music] [Music] now just to show you a little more with the user interface if you are in the Amber neck front end and you end up hitting the select button that brings you to a settings menu where you can change a few things like themes and you can see here you can change how the icons look and there's not a whole lot of themes but it's not too bad for what it is I'll actually give an brck a lot of credit here because usually this is very broken and it's not even worth setting up that's why I usually end up putting digio on any of the Android devices but who knows maybe I won't do that for the [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] review [Music] so my final thoughts are that this is a very cool device I'm interested to check it out a little more and go a little more in depth with it I'm definitely going to do some comparisons with other other devices in my review so make sure you click that subscribe button and turn on your notifications so that you can be notified when that video comes out pretty soon it's really refreshing to see an AM bernick device that's an Android that works this well the last am bernick Android device that I used I think was the RG 405 V and that had some issues right out of the box and I ended up just throwing a custom firmware on there but that was a goofy device anyways the 5.56 is cool because the price point is right around what retroid has the rp4 pro listed for and for an OLED screen and to be able to play some PS2 Wii and GameCube games add that with these ergonomics and this is a pretty cool device I'm definitely going to be doing some couch gaming with this for sure so let me know in the comments below what your thoughts are on the am bernick RG 556 are you going to pick one up are you waiting let me know your thoughts as always be sure to like subscribe and even share this video with someone who needs a really cool Android device that's ergonomic and an OLED screen thanks for watching stay awesome everyone and go play some games [Music]
