tonight as we continue to look to you god my savior as we continue to listen to what you have to say to us as we open up our hearts and our mind to your words tonight lord jesus we just want to say thank you father whatever the program entails tonight lord jesus we pray god that you will breathe upon it lord jesus my savior whoever will be bringing your words tonight we'll be teaching lord jesus world he that followed me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life the pharisees therefore said unto him thou bearest record of thyself thy record is not true jesus answered and said unto them do i be a record of myself yet my record is true for i know whence i came and whether i go but he cannot tell whence i come and whether i go he judged after the flesh i judge no man and yet if i judge my judgment is true for i am not alone but i and the father that sent me it is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true i am one that bear witness of myself and the father that sent me buried witness of me then they said unto him where is thy father jesus answered you neither know me nor my father if you if you had known me you'd have known my father also 20 these words speak jesus in the treasury as he taught in the temple and no man laid hand on him for his hour was not yet come he ended reading a portion of god's holy word we pray that it has many blessings onto it in jesus name as we continue our jesus christ our all-in-all series tonight this the theme is jesus christ the light of the world i want to take this opportunity to welcome one and open your hearts to receive of the lord and i take this upon you welcome to us our pastor and teacher bishop desnet michael george lewis and the holy ghost in jesus name glory be to god praise the name of our god what a wonderful privilege it is tonight to be in the house of god even on this virtual platform as we begin brothers and sisters another session another part of our series entitled jesus christ our all in all and i'm so excited tonight just to be alive and to be a part of this awesome bible study there could never be a greater topic for us to explore than the topic of jesus christ who is our all in all and so tonight i under the holy spirit and i thank god for his goodness and for his grace to associate pastor hilton to lady money to all of god's wonderful people elder in charge of the trevor ferguson and to all of god's wonderful people who are here tonight those joining us via zoom and those who are joining us via youtube and facebook as we continue to study the word of god word of god says we should study to show ourselves approved a workman that needed not to be ashamed rightly dividing the word of truth and so tonight we thank god as we continue thou in studying the word of god as we continue thou in seeking the lord through the studying of his word as was said we are currently in a series of teachings which will take us up to our annual general convocation in april and we are exploring the life of christ we are exploring the theme jesus christ our all in all and i want tonight to remind us that jesus christ is everything to us he's the fairest of ten thousand the songman says to us too he's the lily of the valley the bright and mourning star we have no other alternative than to worship him we have no other alternative than to give our god the glory and so my prayer tonight is that you will participate please get a notebook a pen a pencil as we study the word of god you may write the scriptures down and please be assured that at of course we have our own doctor trevor ferguson amen who will also be partnering with me as we present this series last week we spent some time brothers and sisters looking at jesus christ the good shepherd and tonight amen we'll be looking at jesus christ the light of the world amen so last week we were looking at jesus christ and good shepherd and tonight i'm excited because we are talking about jesus christ the light of the world our focus scripture for this series of this particular this particular teaching in the series comes to us from saying john chapter 8 and verse 12 that's john 8 and verse 12 and we'll be just focusing on that particular verse for this season amen and it reads amen and it reads us jesus speak again on to them saying i am the light of the world he that followed me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life jesus says i am the light of the world therefore this is a declaration from the very mouth of jesus that is not somebody describing him as the light of the world he is declaring to us that he is the light of the world before i begin i want to share with us three sources of light that is in the bible because it is important for us to understand the context as we begin this lesson now jesus christ declares that he's the light of the world but then the bible also teaches us that the scripture is the source of light the savior the lord jesus christ is light and we the saints are the light of the world and so i want to look at these individually so let's look at the scriptures the word of god as light now the word of god tells us in psalm 119 and verse 105 that the word of god hear the sabbath says thy word is a lamp onto my feet and a light onto my path so here the psalmist describes the word of god as a lamp and a light that provides direction and guidance so here the psalmist is presenting to us the concept of the word of god being light then in verse 130 of the same division of the psalm that's the 119th division the word of god says the entrance of thy words giveth light it giveth understanding to the simple therefore when we invest time in studying the scriptures when we invest time in the word of god we are investing our time in receiving the very light of god the entrance of thy word give a light guidance direction and it give it understanding to the symbol therefore the word of god illuminates our mind the lord of god removes ignorance from our hearts and from our minds the word of god gives understanding or clarity to the symbol therefore when we invest time brothers and sisters in studying the word of god we're gaining an understanding of the principles and the things that pertains to god and his kingdom so we understand first that the scripture is a source of light secondly we understand that our savior the lord jesus christ is also the light of the world in john 8 and verse 12 then speak jesus unto them and he said unto them i am the light of the world i am the light of the world he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life here we see jesus clearly indicating to his audience that he is the light of the world not a light but i am the light of the world he that followed me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life so we understand and then that the scriptures is a source of light the lord jesus christ is the light of the world and then we are also told by the word of the lord amen that as the saints of the most i god as children of god that we are the light of the world we see that in matthew chapter 5 and verse 14 where the word of god tells us that he are the light of the world a city that is set on a hill that cannot be hidden therefore as children of god as children of the god who is light we also are the lights of the world we also praise god are the light of the world and so the scripture reminds us praise god that we are the light of the world a city that is set on a hill that cannot be hidden so we have discussed so far three sources of light our focus mainly will be brothers and sisters on jesus christ who is our all in all who is the light of the world so we go back to our focus scripture which is in saint john chapter number 8 and verse 12. then speak jesus again unto them saying i am the light of the world he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life jesus's claim [Music] that he is the light of the world is interesting for us because by declaring himself to be the light of the world jesus was also declaring himself to be god because when he uses the term i am the light of the world it speaks to his deity it speaks to the fact that he was both god and man he was fully god and fully man now i want us to understand that especially when we read the book of first john they are three attributes that reveal to us that jesus christ is god firstly he is life not only is he life but he is love and not only is he loved but he is light we see all these three attributes being discussed in the book of first john and we will be focusing tonight on the fact that he is light now jesus christ in saint john 8 and verse 12 has declared to us brothers and sisters that he is the light of the world but i want us to understand also that the word of god says that god is light therefore if god is light and jesus is the light of the world then it goes to reason that jesus christ is the very god listen to what the bible says in first john 1 and verse 5. this then is the message which we have heard of him and we declare unto you that god is light now remember jesus says i am the light of the world and god said and the word of god says god is light therefore jesus is god when jesus says i am the light of the world he's saying i am god manifested in flesh this then is the message which we have heard of them and they clear on onto you that god is light and in him there is no darkness at all therefore jesus's declaration that he is the light of the world is an indication to those who would have heard him that he was the very god of the ages jesus christ is the light of the world notice we find that again not only in saint john 8 and verse 12 but we find jesus discussing this issue again in the ninth chapter and the fifth verse where he says to us as long as i am in the world i am the light of the world nobody says as long as i'm in the world because jesus knew that a time would come where he would be brought to calvary where he would die and he would have been buried but he after three days he would get back up again out of that grave and the bible says that he would have been brought to his father jesus knew that his time on earth was limited so he says as long as i'm in the world i am the light of the world but when jesus left he turned he told his disciples you are now the light of the world i have invested myself in you i have placed my light in you christ in us the word of god says the hope of glory so we are now we are now recipients of the light of god we are like carriers we carry the very light and sense of god those who are filled with the holy ghost jesus christ as long as i'm in the world i am the light of the world therefore we have discovered so far brothers and sisters that there are three sources of light in the word of god the scripture the savior and we the saints we've also discovered that jesus's declaration that he is the light of the world is a declaration of his dna that he is not just a man but he was fully man and fully god i want us to spend some time and to look at the properties of light why did jesus use this particular analogy of of him being like last week we focused on him being the good shepherd and we established the relationship between the sheep and the shepherd that he is our good shepherd the great shepherd the shepherd and bishop of our souls and we are the sheep of his pastor tonight we want to establish a relationship between the light of the world jesus christ the light of the world and our christian experience and i want us to look at some of the properties of light as it relates to natural light and to see how the properties of natural light may possibly shed some light on why jesus would have referred to himself as the light of the world i want to begin by suggesting to us that light brings order out of kills we were introduced to light very early in the scriptures in fact we are introduced to the concept of light in the book of genesis the book of beginnings in fact we're introduced to the concept of light in the first four verses of the first chapter of the book of genesis word of god says in the beginning god created the heavens and the earth and the earth was without form and void and darkness was on upon the face of the deep and the spirit of god moved upon the face of the waters and god said the first thing that god said after he look at look at look at it look at it look at what it says let there be light one of the first things to come out of the mouth of god is let there be light and the word of god says and there was light and god saw the light that it was good and god divided the light from the darkness notice that the earth was without form and void kills and darkness was upon the face of the earth but in order to bring order to chaos god spoke and when he spoke he said let there be light and from god said let there be light there was light and once there is light order starts to come to the chaos he started to divide the light from the darkness there is nothing that brings order to chaos than light because you see in darkness we cannot see clearly in darkness we can only grope in darkness we stumble but when there is light there is clarity when there is light there is vision there is visibility when there is light we're able to organize because we can clearly see and bring order have you ever tried to clean or organize a room in darkness virtually impossible it is the light that gives us clarity so it is that god says let there be light and there was lights and the light brought forth order out of chaos later on you're going to see that the lord started to speak to the sea and and and to creatures because we are going to learn that natural life depends on light so powerful is light that without light there can be no life it is light that brings life let me say that again light brings life light and life are inextricably into woven we cannot separate life from light where there is no light there is no life that's why the bible says darkness was upon the face of the earth and it was void devoid of life but once there is light there is life you cannot have life without light most of us will remember our basic science lesson that plants utilizes sunlight to produce food if you remember you must have learned about photosynthesis in your basic science class where plants use is carbon dioxide and water and the sunlight and that green pigment in the leaves called chlorophyll to produce glucose or what we refer to as energy or food for the plants plus oxygen and we understand therefore that without sunlight plants cannot survive now there are some plants that may survive for a short period in the dark but eventually if there is no light plant life will wither and die so it is without plant life animals cannot survive the food chain would be grossly interrupted therefore the sun becomes the primary source of providing energy and life to our planet where there is no light in the natural there is no life so it is that the word of god teaches us that life and light are interwoven so when the lord speaks to us that i am the light of the world he said i am the one who gives life let me prove it to you from the scriptures light brings life let's go to saint john 1 verses 1 to 4. jesus says was in the gospels through john in the beginning was the word and the word was with god and the word was god the logos was god the same was in the beginning with god and all things were made by him and without him was not anything made that was made in him was life and the life was the light of men here we see the relationship between light and life in christ was life and the life was the light of man jesus declares in saint john 10 i've come that you might have life and that you might have life more abundantly so in him was life for god so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son that whosoever believed in him should not perish but shall have everlasting life in him was life but the life was the light of men so in saint john 8 and verse 12 jesus says i am the light of the world and anyone who follows me shall never walk in darkness here we see the relationship between life and light we cannot have light without life or life without light jesus christ then as the light of the world brings us that quickens and restores our spiritual life as the light of the world he calls us out of darkness calls us out of nature's darkness calls us out of the darkness of sin and gives to us his light spiritual life can be found in no other than in jesus christ he is the giver of not just physical life but he is the provider also of spiritual life in fact he is the way the truth and the life therefore light and life are interwoven therefore when jesus declares himself to be the light of the world he's also declaring himself to be the life giver hallelujah spiritual life or eternal life is possible in christ this is clearly demonstrated in the scriptures in first john 5 and verse 12 the bible reminds us and tells us that he that hath the son hath life he that hath not the son of god hath not life praise god so he that hath the son hath life praise god and he that hath not the son does not have life why because jesus christ the light of the world is the life giver and outside of jesus there is no lie outside of god there is no true life eternal life comes through jesus christ praise god and so we understand that light brings life but i also want to share with us not only does light bring order out of chaos and light brings life but thirdly light dispels darkness wherever there is light darkness cannot exist the two cannot coexist light and darkness cannot exist what do we mean brothers and sisters when we we speak of darkness simply put darkness is the absence of light biblically speaking then darkness is a symbol of life without god is light so when we speak of darkness we are talking about a life divine the void of god remember the bible says god is life and in him there is no darkness at all therefore darkness is to have a life devoid of god to live without the knowledge of god help us lord and when we walk in disobedience to the word of god we are walking in darkness therefore darkness is to live without the knowledge of god and his word and it's to walk in darkness what we refer to as spiritual darkness but thanks be unto god that we don't have to live in darkness because the light dispels darkness and jesus christ is the light of the world the one who dispels our darkness therefore said john 12 and verse 46 jesus says i am come a light into the world that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness why because once the light comes darkness got to go when the fullness of the light shines in darkness flees away so jesus says i am come as light in the world that whosoever believeth on me shall not abide in darkness aren't you glad tonight that you have trusted in the lord that you have believed in the name of the lord jesus christ you have repented of your sins you have been baptized in the wonderful name of jesus christ and filled with his spirit and no longer referred to as children of darkness but we are children of the light because jesus christ has dispelled our darkness and turned our darkness into light because he is the light and the life giver light dispels darkness i want us to be clear that light and darkness cannot coexist this is clearly demonstrated in the writings of paul to the church at corinth in second corinthians chapter 6 and verse 14 where he reminds the corinthian brothers and sisters not to be unequally yoked together with unbelievers then he asked the question what fellowship hath righteousness and unrighteousness and then what communion hath light and darkness so second corinthians chapter 6 and verse 14 says be not on e be he not unequally yoke together with unbelievers for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness and what communion hath light with darkness in other words the apostle was simply saying light and darkness cannot mix it's either you are going to have darkness or light but you can't have the two there is no union or communion between light and darkness light removes the darkness and the darkness hides the light so it's either we're going to have light or darkness but we cannot have a mixing or a communion of two so we asked what communion hath light with darkness what the apostle is trying to make clear to us is that light dispels darkness there can be no union between light and darkness therefore light jesus christ as the light of the world dispels the darkness notice the bible says god is light and in him there is no darkness at all therefore light dispels all darkness but i want to suggest to us as we continue the narrative of jesus christ the light of the world i want to suggest to us that not only does light bring order to chaos and not only praise god does light brings life and not only does light dispels the darkness that is around us but i want us to also understand that light reveals what is acceptable to god light reveals what is acceptable to god how many of us know that not everything is acceptable unto god saint paul in romans chapter 12 says i beseech you therefore brethren by the mercies of god that you present your bodies a living sacrifice holy and acceptable unto god which is our reasonable service our reasonable worship light reveals praise god what is acceptable on to god paul writes to the church ephesus in ephesians chapter 5 and verse 8 to 10 and he says for you or for he were sometimes darkness but now we are light in the world walk as children of light for the fruit of the spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth proving what is acceptable unto the lord note the final clause proving what is acceptable on to the law notice he says you were sometimes before you got saved you were in darkness but we as the saints of the most high god we are now children of the light and he says if we are children of the light then walk in the light and when we walk in the light the fruit of the spirit will be evident in our life he says for the fruit of the spirit is in all goodness and in righteousness and in truth proving what is acceptable unto the lord he tells us what is acceptable that which is good that which is righteous and that which is true therefore the light of god reveals to the believer what is good what is righteous and what is truth and that is why i say to the believer that we we do not live our lives on the basis of simply following rules and regulations but we follow the dictates of the spirit of god which is the light of god which reveals to us what is truth what is righteous and what is good and some folks are saying i can't pass to determine what is good and i'm not sure what is right well the light of god reveals that to us if we look at this verse ephesians chapter 5 verses 8 to 10 from the new living translation it gives us even a deeper understanding of what paul is trying to convey to the ephesian brethren he says for once you were full of darkness but now you have light from the lord so live as people of light for this light that is within you produces that which is good it produces that which is right and it produces that which is true and he says carefully determine what pleases the lord therefore brothers and sisters if we are truly children of the light we should see the fruits being produced good fruits right fruits truthful fruits that's how we know that we are the children of light because light reveals what is acceptable unto god so remember light brings order out of chaos praise god light also brings life light also dispels the darkness and light reveals to us what is acceptable unto god but then need i remind us brothers and sisters that light also exposes sin light pulls the cover of sin light exposes sin we see that in ephesians chapter 5 verses 11 to 30 where lights exposes sin here what the bible says and have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness but rather reprove them for it is a shame even to speak of those things which are done of them in secret but all things which are reproved are made manifest by the light for whatsoever thou make manifest is light in other words the light will manifest our the light will reveal or will expose our sin if we look at this same verse from the new living translation again it gives us a clear review of what paul sought to convey to the ephesian brethren he says take no part in the worthless deeds of evil and darkness instead is what the bible says expose them that's what light does light exposes sin it is shameful even to talk about the things that the unguarded people do in secret but their evil intentions will be exposed when the light shines on them light exposes in under the cover of darkness we can hide under the cover of darkness we can receive but once there is a light light exposes light reveals so it is brothers and sisters that we must ask the god who is light to shine in our lives to expose every sin we cannot be cleansed we cannot be sanctified if our sins are covered the word of god says he who covers his sin shall never prosper but when we go before god and ask god to expose any sin in our lives not to destroy us but to heal us when we ask god to expose sin in our lives so that we might be in a right relationship with him so that we might align our lives to the will and purpose of god then we are in god's plan but when we hide and cover our sins so the old folks would pray god turn your spotlight of heaven in my my soul and if you find anything that shouldn't be take it out and set us free therefore light exposes sin light exposes the sin in our lives and remember when the light exposes it doesn't expose to destroy us but it exposes to heal us god exposes our sin so that we might be in a right relationship with god i remember the prophet isaiah in chapter 6 when he saw the very majesty and the very glory of god in the temple the prophet says woe is me for i am undone i am a man of unclean lips but notice after the prophet's confession of uncleanness he was not left in that unclean state the word of god says then flew one of the seraphims having a tongue from the altar and touch his lips because their lips have been sanctified and thy sins are forgiven so the lord exposes us to heal us he exposes us to bring us into right relationship with him so light also exposes it so when the bible speaks of jesus being the light of the world he says i'm the one who exposes sin may i also suggest tonight as we continue this study that light leads and guides us another attribute our property of light is that it leads and it guides so when we speak of jesus christ as the light of the world we are talking about he who leads us and he who guides us therefore the psalmist in psalm 43 and verse 3 says to us o send out thy light and thy truth let them lead me light and truth let them lead me let them bring me onto the holy hill and to thy tabernacle remember that light and truth also cannot be separated remember the word of god is light thy word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path and remember sanctify them through thy word the word of god says thy word is truth therefore when the psalmist speaks of the light and thy truth is talking about the word of god let them lead me let them bring me to thy holy hill let them bring me to thy tabernacle in other words he was speaking because for them the holy heal and the tabernacle represents a place of communion with god so he's speaking about let them bring me in communion or in fellowship with god light leads us and light guides us that's why in the well-known scripture from psalm 119 and verse 105 the psalmist says thy word is a lamp onto my feet and a light onto my path in other words it shines and provides illumination that allows me to see where i am going it provides direction it provides clarity it gives a direction where we ought to go so what do we do in when we are faced with mountain darkness follow the lights jesus christ the light of the world follow the word of god what do we do in circumstances when we are challenged follow the word of god thy word is a lamp onto my feet and a light onto my path the word of god will guide us brothers and sisters we are not guided by horoscopes or we are not guided by sooth sales we are guided by the word of god we don't need to invest in persons who read horoscopes to claim that they study the stars to receive directions from the star oh no we don't receive directions from the star we receive directions from he who is the light of the world not a star but he who is the light of the world jesus says i am the light of the world therefore it is god who guides us we don't need to be studying stars or horoscopes to be guided by god if we want to be guided by god let's take up our bibles let's get back to the holy bible let's get back to the word of god and hear what does save the lord let's get into the bible read it and bible study and ask god as i read your words god guide me in the path that i must take guide me in the direction that i would go not my desires because oftentimes we are led by our desires by our own incarnations by what we think is right and what we think is justified and we ignore the very word of god but the psalmist says let the word of god be a lump to your feet and a light let it direct you and do what does say the lord light leads and light dies therefore when we say jesus christ is the light of the world we are said he's the one who leads me and if he's leading us then we know that victory is assured if jesus christ is our instructor then we know we will not fail we know that he will lead us into the path of righteousness last week we studied jesus christ as our good shepherd in psalm 1 you know he leads us into the path of the psalmist as he leads us into the path of righteousness for his name sick he will never lead us astray he will never deceive us we will never be lost when christ is our leader but the someone says lead me my savior leave savor lead me lest i strain [Music] lead us that is our prayer father lead us day by day ever in thine own sweetly teach us to be pure and true show us what we ought to do light leads and guides but may i also suggest to us brothers and sisters that not only does light exposes sin and not only does light leads and guides us but light ins strikes and disciplines us we see that in proverbs chapter 6 and verse 23 that light instructs and light disciplines us so the wise man says for the command for the commandments is a lamb and the law is light or god's word god's precepts god's instructions is like and reproves of instructions are the way of life when he speaks of reproofs of instruction he's speaking about the discipline or the corrective action that comes from exploring the word of god let's look at proverbs chapter 6 and verse 23 from the new living translation hear what it says for their commandments is a love it's a lamp and their instruction a light their corrective discipline is the way of life therefore when we speak about the word of god being a lamp and a light what that does is that it brings corrective discipline in our lives because when the word of god exposes sin when the word of god exposes our following it forces us to move towards god and to make corrective actions in our ways should a young man cleanse his ways but by taking heed to the word of god so their commandment is a lamp an instruction a light and it brings corrective discipline remember we said last week that the father chastens or disciplines every son that he loves discipline brings corrective action not punishment because of his anger with us and just want to destroy us but discipline to bring us into right relationship with him discipline that is geared towards corrective future actions so he brings us into discipline may also suggest to us that light purifies there is a purifying property that is within light i'm sure most of us can remember the days when we would wash our garments garments which are stained long before they were chemical stain removers we would wash those garments and rub them with our soap and persons would just put them in the sun to allow the sun to bake it and that sun would burn out that steel when you look at that garment after a couple of hours in the sun that stay and disappears sunlight will remove stains from spotted garments when a garment or anything else which spots is cleansed by the purifying effects of the sun we say it has been sun bleached we place that spotted garment in the sun for the sun to burn through it it is said that in 1877 it was discovered that sunlight can kill bacterias and before we had our modern germ killers and hand sanitizers the only way that forks was used to purify things was to hand them out in the sunlight we know that the sun has healing properties but it also purifies also and we also know that ultraviolet light the rays from the sun can purify both water air and surfaces of bacteria and germs therefore lights in itself is a purifier that gets me excited because if jesus christ is the light of the world that he is the one who purifies us he's the one who sanctifies us he's the one who cleans us life has a purifying property and so when we talk about jesus christ as a light of the world we are saying he is the god who purifies we see the prophet isaiah in isaiah chapter 1 and verse 18 speaking of the purifying effect of the believer says come now let us reason together saith the lord though your sins be as scarlet they can be as white as snow though they be red as crimson they can be as wool they can be bleached the light of god therefore let's see how god purifies us he purifies us through the blood of jesus christ first john 1 7 says but if we walk in the light talking about light which purifies if he walks in the light as he's in the light we have fellowship one with another and guess what the blood of jesus christ's son cleanses us from our sin therefore when we walk in the light the blood cleanses us because there is a purifying effect to the light of god therefore when we speak of god jesus christ as the light of the world we are saying he is the one who purifies he's the one who cleanses us and washes us and we move the stain of sin and the stain of shame and the stain of guilt from our lives he is the one who washes us whiter than snow therefore we understand that light purifies is there anybody that wants to say lord jesus light of the world purify my life afresh cleanse me afresh every day we must open our hearts to the light of god to purify us so the song says oh wash me off without within and purge with fire fires in the world of light if that must be no matter how if only sin die out in me die out in me so when we refer to jesus christ as the light of the world we are saying jesus you are the one who purifies but as i hasten to close tonight not only does light purifies but light heals light heals mothers will tell you that you know if the child is born and you look into the eyes of the child and it's very yellow it's suggesting jaundice and the way in which you can deal with jaundice is to expose that child to the light and somehow the light brings healing to the liver and cures that jaundice light has been shown brothers and sisters to be beneficial in healing skin problems depression pain because it has a way to interact with our bodies and our brains light has been shown to be very powerful in fact even in this pandemic one of the strategies that has been recommended across the world for persons who are affected by covet 90 is to expose themselves to light vitamin d that our body which steams from the light so sunlight for example stimulates this that the production of vitamin d nitric oxide serotonin and endorphins all of which are beneficial for our well-being indeed god's spirit brings both emotional physical and spiritual healing when his truth feel our minds and our hearts so it is in the natural just as how light brings healing jesus christ the light of the world brings both physical spiritual and emotional healing to his children he brings healing in fact he's referred to as having healing in his wings in malachi chapter 4 and verse 2 and i read from the new living translation it says but you but for you who fear my name the s-u-n the son of righteousness will rise with healing in his wings not the s-o-n the s-u-n sun there because he is the light of the world will arise with healing in his wings and you shall go free leaping with joy like cast let's out to pasture the lord jesus christ is our healer as the light of the world he brings healing to our minds he brings healing to our bodies he brings healing to our spirit he is our healer light brings healing brothers and sisters our healing is in jesus i am the lord that he left me he says i am the lord therefore our prayer should be i don't know who i'm speaking to maybe you're in pain tonight maybe you're struggling with a pain in your back a pain in your foot that has been yeah that has been lingering for a long while and you have been trying to to get over it but he is the light of the world may we ask if the shine his light over every cell shine his healing light over every tissue shine this healing light over every organ in our body and bring in divine order everything that is out of alignment in our bodies the healing of virtue of the very light of god have a shadow messiah may move upon your body tonight may move upon your spirit tonight may move upon your emotions tonight and bring healing my god there are some folks who need spiritual healing in bondage i've been trapped by the end of may the light of god bring healing in your spirit there are those who are trapped in their minds uh struggling with the past struggling with their emotions struggling my god to deal with the difficulties of anger and rage and maybe bitterness and and unforgiveness and all of these things but may the light of god's healing virtue shine in our lives and bring healing in our emotions healing for our wounds healing for our hurts healing for our pains when we speak of jesus christ as the light of the world we are acknowledging that he is my healer he is the one who heals us for he was wounded for our transgression bruised for adequacy and the chastisement of our peace was upon him and with his tribes we were healed jesus christ is our healer but as i look at the final properties of life i want to remind us that life gives security light gives security most of us can relate to this one of the the first thing we do in securing our house is to put perimeter lights are you ever afraid of the dark most people don't like the dark there are some folks who can't sleep in the dark they have to sleep even there are some folks who who have to sleep with a light on children are often especially fearful of the dark and so they'll say turn keep the light on daddy until i fall asleep or keep the light on light dispels fear it provides us with security and that's why we light our streets that's why we light the streets and where the street lights are out that's where the criminals will pray and that the cover of darkness that's where they look and so when our street lights are not working we have to call the parish council to ensure that those lights are fixed because our security depends on those lives when we have jesus the true light are talking about physical life but when we have jesus christ the true light in our lives we do not need to fear anything because he offers the best protection by god i'm not talking about protection that comes from the jdf and i'm not talking about protection that comes from the jcf i'm not talking about protection that comes from uh king alarm or archive or any of these companies but i'm talking about the protection that comes from the lord jesus christ god who is our refuge and strength a a present help in the time of trouble i'm talking about a protection that comes because god builds a hedge around us i'm talking about a protection that comes because our life is hid with christ in god he provides to us true security and nothing can unknowingly penetrate the wall of defense which he builds around us it is this understanding brothers and sisters that the psalmist had when he echoed for us in psalm 27 the lord is my light and my salvation listen to what he says whom shall i fear if god is my security if god is my defense the lord is my light and my salvation my savior whom shall i fear the lord is the strength of my life of whom shall i be afraid then he tells us even when the wicked and even our enemies and our foes came upon us to eat up our flesh he says they are going to stumble and fall because god is our defense therefore when we speak of jesus christ as the light of the world what are we saying we are saying jesus christ is my security jesus christ is my defense when the wicked even my enemies and my foes came upon me to eat up my flesh they stumble and fell the one who should encamp against me my heart shall not fear why because jesus christ who is the light of the world is my defense this the war should rise against me in this will i be confident in the midst of wars in the midst of attacks from the enemy he says if jesus christ is the light of the world he is your security is your defense therefore we need not fear i want to close tonight just reminding us of a couple of points quickly jesus says to us as long as i'm in the world i am the light of the world but then in saint matthew chapter 5 he reminds us now that we as his children to whom he now comes to live within us christ in us the hope of glory he not reminds us that we are the light of the world we see that in saint matthew chapter 5 and verse 14 where he says to us he are the light of the world a city that is set on a hill cannot be hid and then in first thessalonians chapter 5 and verse 5 it says ye are all the children of light and the children of the day we are not of the night nor of darkness therefore the lord jesus christ has not reminded us that as his sails we now have become the light of the world a city that is set on a hill that cannot be hid we are the children of light and as christians we are the light in the sense that we share the character of him who is the light that is jesus christ our lives serve as light to a world that is immersed steep in darkness our lives should reflect the very light of god our lives should emanate or or or emit the very light of god we must remember that the word of god asks us that we must let our light shine if we are the light of the world remember it says what is the use of a light if you put it under a bushel a bushel was like a basket if you put it on that basket what's the purpose of the light the light will be hidden so instead matthew chapter 5 verses 14 to 16 he says he are the light of the world a city that is set on a hill that cannot be hidden neither do men light a candle and put it under a bushel or a basket but on a candlestick and it give it light unto all those that are in the house let your life so shine before men this is the admonition of the lord to us now as the saints of the mosaic let your light shine before men why so that they may see your good works and glorify your father which is in it therefore when we shine our light as saints of god we bring glory to god we glorify god by shining our lights in a dark world not only are we admonished to shine our light and to be examples and to display the very character of jesus christ but we are also encouraged that we must walk as children of light ephesians chapter 5 verses 8 to 9 4 we who were sometimes darkness but now we are the light in the lord walk as children of life so we are command to shine our light we are command we are commanded by the word of god to walk as children of light for the fruit of the spirit is in all goodness righteousness and truth so god has commanded us to shine our life he has commanded us to walk in the light to display an attitude on a character that shows the virtue of goodness of righteousness and of truth therefore he reminds us that he who walks in the light walks in goodness he who walks in the light walks in truth he who walks in the light walks in righteousness right standing with god he also reminds us that we should walk as children of light we can know that we are walking as the children of light if we can see our lives being characterized by goodness right and true words and actions things which are pleasing to god the truth of whether we are children of life has to do with what we manifest are we displaying the virtue of goodness and of righteousness and of truth first peter chapter 2 and verse 9 the bible reminds us that we are a chosen generation we are a royal priesthood we are a holy nation we are a peculiar people and we have been called to show for the praises of him was called us out of darkness into his marvelous light notice those three words royal holy and peculiar both speaks of a separation there's a difference between royalty and commonness there's a difference between the holy and unholy there's a difference between that which is peculiar from that which is common so it is god has says to us listen you are a peculiar people you are called to show forth the praises of him who have called you out of that therefore you must be mixed up in the works of darkness the lust of the flesh the loss of the eye and the pride of life just a few more slides and i close we must also remember child of god [Applause] that we cannot separate walking in light from walking in love that is made clear to us in first john 2 verses 9 to 11. we cannot say that we are the children of the light if we don't love one another if we do not express love one to another he that saith he is in the light and hated his brother it's not in the light the word of god says he says he is in darkness even until now he that loveth his brother abideth in the light notice when we love we stay in the light when we hate we are out of the light of god and there is no occasion of stumbling in him when we abide in the light of god in the love of god we will not have an occasion to fall or to stumble but he that hated his brother is in darkness when we operate in the spirit of hate we allow darkness to infest our minds we allow darkness to infest our spirit and darkness attracts evil creatures you know that there are some creatures that only come out at night because they're attracted to the darkness he that hated his brother is in darkness and walk it in darkness and know it not wearing because the darkness has blinded his eyes when we walk in hatred when we walk in bitterness our eyes are blind we cannot differentiate we cannot properly desert observe or interpret because we are blinded by hatred when we walk in the light as he is in the light we have fellowship one with another love of god and the blood of jesus christ cleanses us from all our sins but when we hate our brothers we do not walk in the lives of god finally word of god says we must put on the armor of light we must put on the very armor of light romans chapter 13 verses 11 to 14 reminds us that we are to put on the arm of light let's read it together and that knowing the times that now it is i time to awake out of sleep for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed the night is first spent the day is at hand let us therefore cast off the works of darkness and let us put on there it is the armor of light so god has asked us bethel to cast off the works of darkness the lust of the flesh the loss of the eye the pride of life and to put on the armor of light and then he says let us walk honestly as in the day not in writing or drunkenness not in chambering unwantedness that that that word here chambering unwantedness speaks to sexual immorality not in strife or envy but putting on the lord jesus christ and make not provisions for the flesh to fulfill the lost thereof therefore as children of the light we've got to cast or lay aside every weight and every sin that so easily beset us brothers and sisters we have to lay aside the works of darkness and put on the very armor of light the very word of god how should a young man cleanse his ways but by taking heed to the word of god no man the word of god says like the candle and put it under a bushel or a basket i just want to share with us [Music] just four things just four baskets that will hide the light of god in our lives when we encourage hypocrisy in our lives the light of god cannot shine in us matthew chapter 15 and verse 8 jesus says these people are hypocrites guess why they draw a night to me with their mouths and they honor me with their lips but their heart is far from me their worship is vain their worship is is filled with hypocrisy they speak great swelling words but there is no connection between the word spoken and the heart there is no connection between words spoken and the life lived when there is no connection between what we profess and what we possess then we are in trouble there has to be a relationship between what is in our heart and what comes out of our mouth so he says these people draw a night to me hypocrisy god does not dwell in hypocrisy hypocrisy hides the light that's putting the light under a basket of hypocrisy the next thing that hides the light the world is in darkness and needs the light of god but sometimes we are fearful to witness fearful to shine the light of god in this dark world because we are crippled by the spirit of fear what the word of god says in second timothy chapter one and verse seven for god hath not given us the spirit of fear but of power and of love and of a sound mind therefore we need not be fearful and and feel like we have to be a coward and timid and hide our lights but we need to boldly shine the light of god in this dark world shine it among our friends shine it among our co-workers shout it to our families let them know that jesus christ is the light of the world and that he still saves he still keeps and he still satisfies fear is a basket that will dim the very light of god not only fear but worldliness and compromise the spirit of compromise and worldliness will dim the light of god first john chapter 2 verses 15 to 16 jesus reminds us and warns us about our affections for the things of the world he says love not the world neither the things of the world if any man love the world the love of god the love of the father is not in him for all that is in the world is the lust of the flesh the lust of the eye and the pride of life it is not of the father but it is of the world therefore worldliness and the spirit of compromising will deem the light that's like putting the light under a bushel or a basket we have to come out from among them and be separate and even as we shine the lights in the dark world by witnessing to those around us one of the things we have to be careful of is rudeness because rudeness will dim the likes the bible speaks to it in colossians chapter 4 verses 5 to 6 where the bible asks us to have our speech being seasoned with salt it says walk in wisdom towards them that are without in other words walk in wisdom be wise how you deal with the answer redeeming the time let your speech be always with grace seasoned with salt that he may know how he ought to answer to everyone what the bible means when he talks about our speech being seasoned with salt it simply means that we need to be when something is seasoned with salt it's palliative and it's pleasant you know it's not insipid it's not fresh but the lord is saying to us and actually look at this same uh verse colossians chapter four verses five to six of the amplified version it says conduct yourself with wisdom in your interactions with outsiders or unbelievers make the most of each opportunity treating each person as precious let your speech to at all times be gracious and pleasant sometimes you are too angry let your speech be gracious and pleasant seasoned praise god let it be seasoned amen let it be seasoned think i've lost my slime amen let it be seasoned the word of god says with salt so that you will know how to answer each one who questions you jesus christ is the light of the world may god bless us tonight as we remember that light brings order to chaos light brings life light dispels darkness light reveals that which is acceptable unto god light exposes sin light leads us and guides us light instructs and disciplines us life purifies and light heals and finally life gives us security we are called to be the light of the world we must shine our light we must walk as children of light we must walk in light and love and we must walk and put on the very armor of light let us not hide our light under the basket of hypocrisy let us not hide our light under the basket of fear let us not hide our light under the basket of worldliness or compromise let us not hide our light light leads from the production of carbon dioxide and water to give glucose and we know glucose is the source of energy praise god for all um well for both plants and animals so critical that link between life and light and also light heals praise the name of the lord jesus so just probably has to reiterate those two points and then if there are any other questions we'll take it and then we're and life so if you notice in the book of genesis the bible says that the earth was without form and void which suggests emptiness a lack of life and the lord said let there be light because there is a link between life and light jesus christ is described as the light of the world but he says i am also the way the truth and the life so jesus christ is both the light and the life there can be no life without light when we look at what is happening you know in the natural world in the absence of light life plants die when plants die animals die when animals die human beings which are higher level animals we also die there is a direct relationship between light and life jesus christ is the light of the world outside of him there is only darkness but if we walk in the light as he is in the light we will have fellowship one with another interestingly enough you you you as the doctor understands the healing power of light as it relates even to john d's and even to the production of vitamin d in our bodies i know especially even in the kovic season i know especially for countries that were having winter and those things persons were encouraged to get out of the bed get out of the house and expose themselves to a measure of sunlight because there is a you you would know better than me what what what's the whole chemical process that goes on there but certainly it leads to the production of vitamin d which helps with the healing of our bodies and so it is that jesus christ who is the light of the world brings healing to our lives the bible describes him as the sun sun of of righteousness but that comes with healing in his wings and certainly we recognize that christ is our healer i want to suggest to us that a part of healing you know a good doctor oftentimes would have to find the source of the sickness have to run a diagnostic so and a lot of times what the doctors do and this just came to me is to do some kind of test and it usually involves an x-ray and when i think of an x-ray that looks within that's light when we think of a cat scan again that's light in in another form that that reveals an exposure a part of of how life heals is that it exposes what's wrong remember he says that that light exposes sin not to destroy us but to heal us to bring us back into right relationship with god so it is that in the light that light reveals the that the fox is the fox is that not divine light reveals the cancer of sin the cancer of shame that brings illness and sickness both physical and mental and spiritual and it brings healing because the light that burns out the same burns of the shame so god bless you trust have answered your your question certainly one last bit pastor so there's a note in the chat um how do you deal with things in your past life and it comes now in your thoughts so how can light help you to deal with the past jesus christ as the light of the world part of it is as we talk about healing that we talk about emotional healing and we talk about healing in our in our minds and in our bodies and in our souls i want us to be realistic in understanding that you know there are issues in our past that oftentimes we even after we have been delivered from them even after we have gotten over them there are times when they will come back to our our or our memory but one of the things that we have to be clear on is that even if it comes back in our memory that that level of anger or bitterness that we might have felt in the past when we are truly delivered even if it comes back into our memory or we recall the effect it is not that feeling of anger or revenge or seeking or bitterness or you know malice is not attached to it it is replaced by the peace of god or by the love of god and so it is how do we do we surrender our past to the lord the bible god's the word of god says forgetting those things which are and we press towards the prize of the mark of the high calling which is uh in jesus christ we expose those hurts those pains so the purifying power of the light of god we expose our hurts we don't cover them and mask them but we expose them to the healing power of the light of god and allow god to bring healing in our hearts healing through his words healing through his words healing through the spoken word the written word healing and i love god to bring healing just as how the light brings healing to the body i love the word of god thy word is a light and a lamb let it bring healing to our hearts god bless you amen many men praise the name of the lord jesus we're going to sing
