I've re-watched this movie about once a year since it came out. It has such a quiet intensity.
It's part of my 2008 crisis series:
- Margin Call
- The Big Short
- Too Big To Fail (HBO)
- Inside Job (documentary)
- Game Change (HBO; less related, but still...)
- Panic (just released last year, documentary)
Lotta big name and talented actors in this scene. Im tempted to download and watch the film.
man, i know kevin spacey is a shitty person, but it's still really disappointing for me to know that his career is basically over. whatever he's done in life as a person, he's still a fantastic performer.
I love this movie, and this scene in particular is just a masterpiece - also the subject matter of the financial crisis is framed in some really thoughtful ways in this film.
If the value of assets on book decreases by 25% and that decrease is more than the market cap of the company (3:45), then does that mean they're only 4x leveraged? That doesn't seem much right, since there were banks back in 2008 30-40x leveraged.
I love this movie. The way they go up the chain introducing you to progressively smarter people ending with the CEO who is clearly the smartest with a brutal cunning. He doesn't use ten dollar words but you can tell he see's further than anyone else there.
Watched this again for the third time or so last night, and I am more and more blown away by the acting each time I watch it. The actors' ability to really pull you in to the situation with them, to build tension, and to make you feel the gravity of what is happening is truly extraordinary. This particular scene is the best example I could think of from it where they all nail it, particularly Jeremy Irons.
If anyone hasn't watched Margin Call. I highly recommend it!
Wow. Just watched on OP’s recommendation. Amazing. P.S. Rented for $1.99 on redbox through Ruko.
First time I've heard of this and the cast is stacked, damn. Thanks
