BEST LAWN MOWER ENGINES

when purchasing a zero turn mower there are three main categories you really need to look at the engine the transmission and the build quality in this video i will talk about the best engines you can find on many of today's lawn mowers i'll talk specifically about which engine brand is the best value which engine brand is the highest quality and which engine brand is the best overall for your lawnmower whether it's a zero turn mower push mower or even a garden tractor you are looking for okay so the mower engine that you should look at if you want to save money but still want decent quality is gonna be kohler in general both kohler residential and commercial grade lawnmower engines cost several hundred dollars less than other engine options you can get making them a great option for residential users who aren't going to put their lawnmower through tough or strenuous situations for example the 2021 zt elite inch zero turn mower comes in at a cost of five thousand one hundred and twenty dollars for the 725 cc kohler 7000 engine option however the exact same lawnmower with the 726 cc kawasaki fr730v costs 5930. that's a difference of 830. my personal favorite kohler engines aside from the 7000 residential series is the confidant engines the kohler confidants are a great high-end residential slash commercial quality lawnmower motor that have cast iron cylinder bores something that you won't get on the 7000 series along with decent air filter and it comes in several different options that are efi and non-efi those options will range between 21 horsepower and 27 horsepower this engine will cost you several hundred dollars less than most other engines with similar specs all kohler lawnmower engines feature a 3-year unlimited hour limited warranty if value just isn't your thing and you're the type of person that wants the best engine for your mower regardless of the price the honda lawnmower engines are some of the best out there honda engines on lawn mowers are known for their reliability raw power and great sound they will also be one of the more expensive engine options you'll find on many lawn mowers today however if you plan on using a lawnmower for commercial purposes or are planning on mowing for long hours or consecutive days at a time then the honda engines will be the best option for you let's say you wanted a solid commercial quality lawnmower with front and rear suspension well the maverick is a great option and it comes in multiple cutting widths but let's say you needed a 48 inch cut you could get that mower with a kohler confidant engine for six thousand seven hundred and twenty dollars but if you wanted the much more reliable honda gxv engine it would cost you seven thousand four hundred and twenty dollars that's seven hundred dollars more expensive than the kohler what you essentially get for those extra dollars spent is a superior engine construction with a forged steel crankshaft and integrated cylinder head cast iron cylinder bore with better fuel economy and a overall more durable engine with less parts than the kohler there is no doubt that honda engines are one of the top engines out there however less lawn mowers have honda engines as an optional choice honda engines also come with a three year warranty now if you want an engine that is a great value but still want your lawnmower to last as long as possible the engine that i firmly believe is the best overall is the kawasaki engines kawasaki engines are at least a few hundred dollars more than the comparable kohler or briggs and stratton engines but are typically more affordable than engines like honda or vanguard however the main reason why i consider the kawasaki lawnmower engines to be the best overall is one because many mowers that are made today have kawasaki engine options you can choose from making them easy to find and two kawasaki engines have been proven by the masses for their reliability in other words kawasaki has a great reputation in the lawnmower industry the zero turn mower i mentioned earlier the 2021 maverick with a 48 inch cut also comes with a kawasaki engine option as well as the kohler and the honda if you were to get the kawasaki engine option for the maverick the mower costs seven thousand and eighty dollars that's exactly 340 dollars more than the kohler and exactly 340 dollars less than the honda now the kawasaki might not sound quite as good as the honda when you're just listening to it in person but it has many of the same great features and will perform just as good as the honda for 90 of people out there kawasaki engines are typically less likely to be in the shop for issues like overheating or carburetors going bad than let's say your coal or your briggs and stratton also the kawasaki engines come with that three-year warranty just like the honda and just like the kohler so which engine should you go with well the kawasaki is a safe bet for just about anyone but i'd say if you are going to be a very light user when it comes to mowing and you are also confident in your ability to take care of your lawnmower then the kohler engine option is a solid choice that can save you a few hundred dollars but if you need raw performance see if the lawnmower model you are looking at comes with an optional honda engine thanks for watching this video on the
