yo what's up guys your boy full time tuning we're back with another episode of culture is food i'm here with my guy jc coach this is where we got today guys we're in reno we're at this authentic filipino cuisine it's called lolos yeah we're really excited we're in south reno the spot just got opened here in january of 2020 so let's dive in and check it out yo guys i'm anthony lee and i'm jc coats and we're gonna bring you the best food and drinks that the foodie culture has to offer we are culture is food hello i'm todd shirey i'm uh the owner here with my wife of lolita's authentic filipino cuisine we started in january of this year and we specialize in authentic filipino cuisine primarily the kampangan style today i'm going to be serving a san miguel pale pilsen to tony and as well as a manila sunrise which is a twist on the tequila sunrise made with a filipino de londin which is an orange decor as well as a five dollar hooker shot hi i'm laurie shirey owner and uh chef of lolo's authentic filipino cuisine today i'll be serving jc and tony luchonko alle sisig gisen giesing my signature barbecue and halo halo of course okay ali chocobon is a crispy pork belly very popular in the philippines it's one of the sea sig is more the diced pork belly vinegar and citrus taste and then the geese and geese i made that up when i was drunk one night it's it's it's basically means wake up wake up and it became very popular and that's it boom all the food is on the table yeah jc was just talking about how he feels you feel like like a lot of love here right i mean i'm in heaven bro well the owners are just been so welcoming to us it's been such a fantastic time i mean all about the map the service here at lolo's is yeah amazing i mean we're we're at lolo's uh traditional filipino cuisine traditional i mean look at this it's just incredible let's let's dive into the skewers well first before we go what do you got over there i got lots of drinks over here but i got the five dollar hooker shop this is bailey's peppermint chops in a spiced rum so let's go cheers [Music] i got a bunch of those yeah just so you guys know that was like bailey's peppermint chops and a spiced rum at like 11 o'clock in the morning yeah you're right it's what's 12 40's and seven whatever all right let's dive in i'm gonna give you some rice that's some classic white rice it's traditional right right is it traditional it is traditional i have the white rice a field pillow i i do i i am i i have a beautiful filipino yeah i might add it's behind the camera right now she was very excited when we got here so we got the skewer the skewer they're literally barbecuing right in the backyard it's so it like it feels like you're at home like a backyard barbecue yes yes yes i can feel the love now i can feel the love big time what's the thing about filipino food right i want it for a second bite it's incredible comfort food that's some bomb barbecue barbecue on a sick bro give me 100 of those things so i'll eat them it's just hugging my soul right now and i'm gonna wash it down with uh this is a sand miguel beer this is a filipino beer here they get a very large glass they they gave me one at first it was only half though so i gave me two that's two beers in one cup right there light crisp to the point perfect for pairing with the barbecue instead nice it's a pilsner from the philippines pills are from the philippines right here a little lager you know the and this is a deep fried pork deep fried pork belly i mean it looks fire i mean come on it's like bacon but super thick breaded deep fried i mean look at that it looks it looks phenomenal and there's some sauce on here i don't know the sauce i'm gonna go in a sauce oh it's gonna go in with your hand all right it when you hear the name pork belly you're not really sure what you're going to get yourself into right but this is fire and purple is just bacon yeah for our western friends it's it's really just bacon very a very thick cut thick cut bacon fried bacon this is fantastic yes it is incredible super rich get the pork belly all right next this is the original zig zing this is a dish this dish is so popular they could only make it on fridays and saturdays because if they did they would be long out the door yeah i mean it was great it's like a mixture of the exotic meats from you know the filipino tradition right yeah so it's a diced pork belly picks now pig ears chicken liver marinated in a vinegar and citrus sauce grilled and mixed with red onions chili pepper topped with secret mayonnaise and a raw egg i mean i've never ever tried something of this nature before my whole entire life tracy so i'm going to this is going to be definitely an experience i'm going to break this egg a little bit too let's go for it oh wow it's very interesting although he in there no he didn't know very good man yeah mayonnaise is good i wasn't i was a little nervous to be honest you can't get this just anywhere no this is this is authentic filipino poo food and and if you get it anywhere else it's probably not gonna be as good as this one definitely not this is incredible we talked to the chef earlier she's been like 25 years yeah i mean you know they used to have a restaurant in las vegas and they got a food truck they just opened this place i guess earlier this year in january 2020. uh well we got a beautiful looking drink in front of me this is the manila sunrise manila that should go good with the the peppermint straw in the rum oh that's fine is it that's fire got a little sweetness there yeah that's fire it looks like a little orange juice little grenadine maybe some tequila tequila max very nice tequila a little cherry on top a little cherry on top baby jeez juicy okay which is essentially what means wake up wake up wake up wake up um chef and owner um one that was drunk got crazy in the kitchen and threw this bad boy together i'm gonna go out on a limb and say you can't get this anywhere no this is here exclusive only yeah um this is a sauteed pork mussels shrimp tofu fish balls and a spicy savory gravy sauce topped with hard-boiled eggs listen if i'm ever in the kitchen drunk late at night with a filipino chef i'm going to let her have her way with whatever is going on you know what i mean and i mean look at this i'm not sure what's on my plate right now but we're going to try it i'm going in i'm going to snag one of these i'm gonna snag the muscle i'm gonna try the tofu tofu looks fire go for the tofu i'm gonna get i'm gonna get an egg there get a little egg i'm gonna crack it how do you open this that way you just i'm gonna go in a little crawfish action how's that man is it a lot going on in there or what that is so good it's fire i mean i don't even know what to say i think i don't know how to start off first off this could be one of the most unique dishes that i've ever tried right right here in reno who'd have thought right dude that sauce is crazy and the tofu bro i'm not sure what this is man but it's just the stuff on the bottom bro it's it's what's where the that's where the love is on the bottom oh yeah listen excuse me guys i'm going to go in for one more i just i just want to keep eating all this this has got an incredible flavor this is incredible you gotta check you gotta go in here at low though in reno all right last but certainly not least this has been talking to me all uh this is the hollow hollow which which which stands for mix mix mix mix and i have no clue what's in this so this is a matcha ice cream one ube ube ube ice cream yeah oh i got a little boba in there [Music] let's mash it up [Music] get down to lolos i was let me just say this first i was a little uncertain when we got this you know when we got hit up to do this show i wasn't i didn't know what to expect traditionally asian food digital for the filipino food and then i kind of told you andrew you're like no it's gonna be really good it'll be really good go try it out because look at the menu got here i felt very welcomed when i got here and then we dove into the food and i'm a little bit of food fam now yeah you should be right like i mean like that yes give me that plate all the top right the barbecue and some hollow hollow i mean come on fry up some some pork belly give me a scoop give me some barbecue barbecue on a stick give me whatever you want you've got some fried shrimp and some tofu i'm getting crawfish manila sunrise and some sam mcwell and a nice five dollar hookah shot that's it that's
