hi I'm so glad you could join us today we discovered this unusual dim suum you have to try it we'll tell you more about it later you won't believe what's in it welcome to Let's Eat Vegas a guide to Las Vegas restaurants buffets and other eating establishments showing you The Good the Bad and the delicious today we're going to visit a local dim suum spot that few westerners know about it's just off the strip in the center of our Chinatown this place is a rare find and we hope one you see what they have to offer you'll check them out there are so many great options for dim suum here in Las Vegas we have one of the biggest chinatowns in the country and what I think are some of the best Chinese and dimsum restaurants anywhere we recently were lucky enough to have stumbled upon a great new find here in the valley dim suum Licious it opened about 2 years ago and is just about 10 minutes west of the strip on Spring Mountain Boulevard dim suum is a term for the collection of accompaniment dishes served with tea it's traditionally served for breakfast or lunch as you can see see it's quaint seating about 40 people the menu is smaller than most places but that's because it's made fresh to order if you need help you can always do as I did go to the front counter point to the photos on the board and ask your server to describe the items they're very helpful here making sure you order what you want the menu is used to order the dim sum just use the marker they give you to select which items you want it's very simple and efficient given some's origin it would be a travesty not to start the meal with a cup of tea the Chinese believe that hot tea helps to melt fat well I'm not sure what the science is on that but there sure are a lot of thin Chinese people roaming around this was their jasmine tea and it was very good the fire dumpling is one of my favorites crispy and Flaky on the outside yes but with a soft gelatinous Mochi like inner layer [Music] The Filling has strong pork and peanut flavor with a hint of Chinese five [Music] spice and such a wonderful Aroma some places here in town I won't mention any names seem to just stamp these out from the back and don't put any love into the recipes but here you can tell they really care it's it's delicious the sweet cream buns are so good [Music] here they remind me of a flaky French pastry on the outside and sweet kemong glaze on the inside the egg custard has a hint of vanilla flavor and it's highly addicting at our restaurant we made excellent perido rolls and this is somewhat the Chinese equivalent to that and look at that filling so rich and [Music] Luscious I think these are the best we've had in Vegas we could eat a 100 of them fact I think last time we were here we we probably did turnup cake is one of those hard- toake recipes that's very labor intensive but well worth the effort when it tastes this good these cakes usually have pork or shrimp within here it has both while the name says cake it's more the consistency of a potato pancake crispy on the outside soft in the center fun fact turnup cake is not really made with turnup it's made with Chinese daon radish it's considered to be good luck to eat during Chinese New Year since the Chinese word for daon radish is pronounced the same as the Chinese word for good luck the sugar cane shrimp is definitely a very popular dimsum item but most places don't use real sugar cane in it here they [Music] do raw shrimp is Blended into a paste and mixed with egg white corn starch and other [Music] spices then formed into a ball around a piece of sugar cane and fried till crispy they give you a Mayo dipping sauce for as well I can certainly see why this is such a popular item it was [Music] fantastic beef WRA noodle is made from a crepe-like batter from either rice flour or tapioca starch then cooked on a flat grill and filled with minced beef with a Savory soy sauce in Umami they also come with shrimp barbecue park or vegetarian if you so choose these can be really horrible if left on the cart I find they get rubbery really fast after they're made if they're not served right away here it dims some Licious they're hot and fresh and the sweet soy sauce they top them with is [Music] delectable this is one item most impacted by being served fresh these have become something I no longer order in a place with carts but here I was reminded of how good they can be I love them as you can see I'm also addicted to chili oil here it's homemade and really good [Music] soft fresh and very hot so don't burn yourself on them the barbecue pork on the inside is a traditional Cantonese pork slow roasted with honey pineapple and Chinese five [Music] spice and don't forget to peel off the paper on the bottom the yeasty outside steamed bun here is pillowy soft the inside is perfectly seasoned not too sweet or spicy perfectly balanced in [Music] flavor wow look how Juicy and Delicious this chive cake is it's comprised of minced shrimp and Chinese garlic chives then seasoned with bullion then wrapped in a thin translucent rice flour skin and fried [Music] if you look closely you can see the green Flex of Chinese garlic chives shining through the skin of the wrap the outer layer is perfectly fried golden brown and crispy with just the right amount of crunch and a hint of glutenous chew that lends itself to a very nice textural element looks can be deceiving in the podcast here we only show that we have three of them we actually got another order of this it's just so good here also known as charu baow soft milk bread incases a barbecue pork filling unlike the usual bow here the bun is baked not steamed in China and most chinat towns including the ones here in Las Vegas you find them in Chinese [Music] bakeries they're a favorite of children but we adults love them too the stuffed deeg plant has a rich black bean sauce with white pepper and is slightly sweet and salty a mixture of shrimp egg white and corn starch is ground into a paste and placed a top perfectly cooked eggplant then steamed coming at eggplant from an Italian Heritage this was a significant but very pleasing departure the Bean Curd wraps are made from homemade tofu skins fried then filled with bamboo choots and mushrooms then steamed in a rich brown sauce first I found the texture a little off-putting but as lunch went on they grew on me and I'm now looking forward to ordering them on our next [Music] visit every culture loves squid and has their own version of it China is no exception the salt and pepper calamari is crispy perfectly Co rings with a delicate batter then seasoned with salt pepper green onions and Sano Chili Peppers the spicy peppers really made this dish perfectly seasoned bell pepper slices stuffed with shrimp paste much like the ones used in the stuffed eggplant it's then topped with black bean sauce and steamed they've long been a staple of Chinese dim suum Cuisine probably one of my top three or four for dimm items I really love this dish this dish is almost like a a curry infused mini Quant like bun stuffed with sweet Chinese charu barbecue pork and ground up into a fine [Music] paste these almost remind me of a Savory Fig Newton but with a beautiful outer [Music] crust also known as a teroc cro KET this is a really hard dish to describe mashed tarot coats the outside and when fried achieves this magical flaky texture you just have to dive in and take a bite to understand crunchy on the outside and inside soft decadent mashed Tera root with seasoned pork zuu dumplings known in China as fungua sometimes here it's called Crystal dumplings The Filling is made with wood ear mushrooms ground pork chives and bamboo shoots gelatinous transparent rice skin encases sauteed pork chives and garlic very much like his cousin hauga the famous shrimp dumpling here's the unusual dim suum we told you about we've not seen it at any other dim suum place in Vegas you are so so going to love this whenever we go someplace we keep a watchful eye on the food going out to other tables and ask our server when we see something which seems appealing but we can't identify what it is or where it is on the menu this was the case with the Chinese doughnut wrap three of them passed by us throughout our meal and we had no idea what it was as you can see it looks amazing so we had to inquire our server Susan was so helpful and we decided to get one wow now it's one of our favorites another item with a very appealing textural contrast soft and tender on the outside with a firmer alente doughnut on the inside I've met few Donuts I didn't like and no exception here when served the wraps are cut in half and then a sweet soy sauce is drizzled over the top The Cho green scallions delicious soft creamy and the liquid is really complimentary to the melt-in your mouth texture of the tofu I love Ginger and there's a mild note in this dish as well as a hint of almond making it somewhat reminiscent of marsy pan these elements really make for an appealing and pallet cleansing dish a perfect dessert item this is unlike anything I've ever tasted our server Susan was so nice she insisted we try it and I'm so glad we did sadly many Chinese restaurants failed during the challenging business landscape of the last few years fortunately dim scious survived it would have been
