hello everyone today we're off to one of the most respected Chinese dim suum restaurants in Vegas and it's easy to see why it's right in the heart of our Chinatown and just minutes from the strip my mom introduced me to dim suum when I was just a teen and have such fond memories of those days I still enjoy the ceremony of it all and visiting dim sum houses always invokes beautiful memories of tea and conversation with my mother and loveed ones dim sum is not just tea and little plates of food it's so much more one feels as though they' stepped outside of Vegas transported to another world a different place in time surrounded by foreign language and beautiful Asian Decor women circling about in dimsum carts like high pressured used car salesmen offering strange yet familiar treats is it my imagination or do they only pretend not to understand no join us for our review of new Asian Barbecue located at 5150 West Spring Mountain Road we started with the crysanthemum te tea it was great and I love the palm sugar they provide palm sugar is produced by boiling collected sap of a number of different varieties of palm until it thickens it has more of a molasses flavor it's just plain wonderful in this tea many places here in Vegas give you complimentary tea but here they charge a few extra dollars before getting started I always make a little sauce for dipping when I'm ordering dim some it's really simple but definitely enhances the experience especially if you're a chili lover as I am here's how you do it a little chili oil some soy sauce and finally a dash of Chinese vinegar perfect for dipping for the remainder of the video I'll refer to this as my secret sauce new Asian barbecue has such a vast array of dimsum dishes it's easy to get dizzy trying to figure out what you want as the carts careem by and the ladies shout out their contents I always try to order a little at a time so we don't get overwhelmed and also so that our food doesn't get cold here we have the pork sweet rice sticky dumplings or as we call them dimsum footballs I love these little glutenous Globes of guoy sweet and savory goodness here they're filled with a wonderfully seasoned five spice ground pork that resembles Chow Sho and flavor usually you don't see a lot of filling inside these but here they were full up it was a beautiful thing and they were most enjoyable not as crispy and a little more gummy than many I've had but I love the moochi like texture the shrimp balls were great as good as any I've had here in Vegas they usually impaled with a sugar cane stick and called sugar cane shrimp without the addition of the sugar cane they were indeed just shrimp balls they're one of my favorite things to eat at dim suum and as you probably heard from my other videos I love to make them at home they're nothing more than ground shrimp egg white and corn starch with a little seasoning they offer you Mayo for dipping and it's an excellent compliment pan fried turnup cake with sausage was good but are unpleasantly fishy in taste I prefer mine to have more of a potato pancake flavor and a little coarser texture these were a bit gummy and tasted more of shrimp paste than turnup or Chinese sausage were they Horrible No but I wouldn't order them again here there are so many places that have wonderful turnup cakes and so many other great things to get here why order anything less than the best why tons with pork and shrimp AKA shumai wow these were fantastic maybe the best we've had in the city just textbook perfect moist ground fatty pork embraced by delicious fresh tasting shrimp garlic soy and sesame oil beautifully crowned with fish row and they taste even better than they look look how moist these are inside I wish you could taste them the only way they could get any better is to dip them into my secret sauce which I assure you I did at the risk of repeating myself here we go again these are probably the best barbecue pork buns I've ever tasted the buns are not Brio style as in many of the other dim suome houses we frequent but was more like a fresh baked yeasty white bread it's a nice contrast to the flavor of the remarkably rich and delicious Chow Sho pork filling man look at how full these are stuffed with the chiao porky goodness I get a tray of these and nothing else and be totally happy I could go on and hun all day about how good these are but you just need to come here and taste them for yourself so I'll shut up now about them my God look at the fried tarot cakes I don't know how they get the outside to crispy and light truly a work of art let's see how they taste though I'm going in for a dip of my secret sauce as well okay the verdicts in they're as good as they look the inside is a mixture of mashed fried terot and ground pork totally terrific usually referred to in the United States as custard or lava buns they're called pineapple buns in China and that's how they refer to them here at new Asian barbecue well let me tell you that the pineapple buns here rain Supreme perhaps the best I've had any place anywhere in this or any previous lifetime I love the outer crust it's to die for beautifully crusty but somehow not at all crumbly they stay together so many times when I eat these I end up wearing a pile of crumbs my dogs are not going to be happy with new Asian barbecue over this but I'm sure loving every bite look how this custard runs like hot lava it's so rich and creamy like a warm crem and glaze these are just Flatout spectacular the heart gal is as delicious as it was beautiful clear wrap delicate little gifts filled with amazingly plump fresh chopped prawns and almost silver translucent skin the naked sweet goodness of the shrimp comes through in every bite the flavor is unparalleled the creation of the pastry coating for haral is an art form and they know what they're doing here okay here we go again these bow are as good as anywhere in the city I love how the paper comes right off without any casualties no bits remaining in the bun itself sometimes it's these small touches that push a dish from excellent to without equal look how hot and steamy These are nice fresh yummy new Asian barbecues buns are perfectly light yet doughy and glutenous in texture these are the kind of bow that you dream about I don't know about you but I crave these and I always have since I was a teen I see chiau hanging here in the display case and with barbecue in their name you know this is a dish that they're proud of and very well should be I'm going to have to come back here and try a big tray of the chaosu pork just on its own cuz it's truly Sensational many places call this dish chai shrimp dumplings but here they're referred to as fried leak cakes either way I'm nearly positive that there were no fried leaks or chives injured in the making of this dish normally these were one of our favorite dishes at dim suum but they lacked the sharp aeric chive flavor they normally have it left me wanting more if i' had been given a blindfold test I would have guessed they were a vegan spinach dumpling as you can see they have a wonderfully crispy fried exterior and look s but they're just mediocre in taste it's a crying shame but you know I always am honest with my appraisals spicy pork won always one of my favorite dishes these are nearly impossible for me to pick up with these slippery plastic Chopsticks pardon me for being a Westerner going to temporarily turn my Chopsticks into oversized novelty toothpicks if you know us or have seen our other videos then you know how much we love our spicy food and these little pork field wons are not just one note wonders they're bursting with pork and garlic flavor not for the faint of heart the sauce is made with chili oil soy sauce and vinegar mixed together hey that's my secret sauce wonder I like this dish so much the addition of green onions and sesame seeds are more than a garnish they really Elevate the flavor to a new level beef crepe is what they call their wraps here and why not it's sort of made like a crepe if a crepe were made with glutenous rice flour these wraps are just that glutenous rice flour mixed with water and thinly coated in a hot pan as a crepe would be they're then rolled with whatever filling is desired today we ordered beef and they were delicious the Chinese sausage buns are truly spectacular wow look how juicy the interior of that sausage is I'm a huge fan of chow Shu and this sausage is very similar in flavor I can taste the deep rich Chinese five spice and garlicky goodness infused into the pork the bun is the same doughy type you find on so many of the glutenous dishes at dim suum restaurants it's also used for peeking duck these are simple goodness at its best they remind me of the Chinese version of a hot dog in a bun come to think of it some Chinese mustard would go great on these I could eat a dozen and then some there was one annoying mishap that occurred today they were trying to be helpful which is a typical source of trouble and asked me if there was anything that could bring me that I didn't see on the carts so I asked for tendon as you can see this is not tendon but tripe I love Mexican tripe but I hate the way they make it a dim suum and this was no exception it was horrible and not what I asked for it was the second time they called tripe tendon and they didn't take it off the check even after they acknowledged it was their mistake and that it was not what I asked for I tried to eat it but after a few bites my patience was up and I couldn't no pun intended stomach it the shrimp wons wow look at these piping hot crispy beautifully Brown the interior is moist and has big chunks of chopped prawns mixed with a mated shrimp mixture comprised of nothing more than a little egg white and corn starch as a binder I'd have to say that anything you opt for here with this Universal stock filling they make of minced shrimp is wonderful and a safe bet of being delicious their shrimp are very fresh not the least fishy I love the crispy wons they're an amazing contrast to the almost buttery ped garlic infused filling I like the Mayo they give you for dipping but prefer my secret sauce the coconut buns were fantastic every bit as good as they look soft yeasty bios bread freshly baked with a creamy coconut custard filling delicate and perfectly powdered with pulverized coconut dust they're the perfect end to an almost perfect meal if I had to rate these buns I'd say they're at least as good as any you'll find at any dimsum restaurant in our Chinatown and at most the best in the universe okay maybe a little over top there but they were spectacular the ubiquitous pot sticker a staple of almost every Asian restaurant anywhere and everywhere most places don't make them homemade unless they specialize in dim some these truly wonderful are the wons made from scratch well they sure taste like it nice and doughy and such a spectacular crunch from where they stuck to the pan when Brown The Filling is so full of flavor garlic Chinese garlic chives pepper white pepper shrimp and [Music] pork they're diminutive in stature but Larger than Life in flavor okay broken record warning they're made even better with my secret sauce these shrimp stuffed jalapenos are terrific I love shrimp and I love jalapenos so what's not to like here a marriage made in heaven this dish is usually not as spicy cuz normally they're made with bell peppers we can't get enough spice so these are right up our alley Don't Be Afraid though they're not crazy hot just a little more kick than usual again this shrimp filling is to die for I just love this sticky rice wrapped in Lotus Leaf I love these heavy little packages but I know once I eat one I'm doomed to not eat much else they're the heaviest thing you can eat off these carts we were kidding that the poor woman who had to push these around all day must have forearms like popey wow these are really good so full of Rich gravy and little bits of chicken and Wonderful Chinese sausage the Lotus imparts an earthy woodsy flavor into the rice that makes these very special we reluctantly couldn't help but finish them I also also love the ground garlic pork there's definitely no shortage of stimulation of your taste buds in conclusion despite our mishap with the tri we really enjoyed the food at new Asian barbecue and we're clearly not alone on this while most places Yelps boast that they get busy and warn you you may have to wait here they really do draw a huge crowd so it's best to arrive right at opening or be patient and take a number by the time we left they were calling numbers so fast and furious ly we thought we were in a Chinese bingo hall if you don't like the hustle and bustle of a crowded place this may not be your dim suum spot if you like Quick Service and good food then you're going to genuinely enjoy new Asian barbecue one other thing to note about this place is that it's on the pricier side and is more expensive than many of the other dimsum restaurants we've reviewed at first we were a little surprised at the prices to keep with the car salesman analogy we were experiencing sticker shock you'll have to be the judge if it's worth it to you I'm sure we'll be back and who knows maybe we'll see you there and make sure to tell
