Best Breakfast Burritos in San Diego, California

these aren't burritos that you eat and you run marathon do you eat bees you drink a coffee and you hold on for the rest of the day all right [Music] look at that good morning ladies and gentlemen I am back here in San Diego with a brand new food episode here on the new channel Gareth eats it's been a long time since I filmed the food video here if you haven't checked those out we got media we got Burgers Pizza tacos all have been filmed but today it's all about breakfast burritos and alongside me is a burrito Aficionado this is going to be my chief burrito correspondent this is Brad from San Diego foodie guy nice to meet everyone can't wait to dig in on some breakfast burritos what gives you the credentials to be a burrito Aficionado so me and some co-workers we went through we'd order breakfast burritos every Friday never missed a week years and years trying different spots around the city we've gotten you know a good little resume burritos well I mean he's also he's a naval veteran so I feel like you guys know where to get good crumbs after you get off the boat but today we're doing breakfast burritos so the burrito culture here in San Diego is massive so we're actually gonna film three different burrito episodes not all today but you know across a few weeks and this morning is all about breakfast burritos starting off this is Taco Surf in Pacific Beach let's go check it out here we go five best breakfast burritos San Diego let's go [Music] yep [Music] all right here we go stop number one we're at Taco Surf we got two different style burritos take it away so this is the carne asada and what I love is that this has the tater tots in it instead of the long hash browns some places have we also have eggs and cheese as well and this this is a custom order yeah so whenever I would do my breakfast burrito Fridays we would do the same carne asada potatoes eggs bacon cheese every single time and so for me it makes it better if you have something unique like a tater tot or potatoes something more than just your normal Cali Burrito with fries here we go the second one is chorizo we'll get to that in a second my first bite of the day and we also are just ladled with sauces I'm gonna go a little green salsa to start us off all right here we go cheers whoa what more could you want I wasn't expecting all that that is perfectly cooked carne asada that's the first thing I did smokiness of the carne asada that beautiful softness and a little bit of crunch from those hash browns also the crispiness of the bacon and the pillows of egg with this really really good tortilla man this is a damn near perfect burrito today is actually my birthday my wife woke up woke me up and said oh do you want breakfast not today babe burrito breakfast burrito day oh man one little palette cleanser oh yeah Cheers Cheers happy birthday thank you so much wouldn't want to be anywhere else where else would you want to be this on a full-on burrito Tour all right here we go this is the chorizo egg cheese and the same beautiful little tater tots just folding out of the burrito all right I'm gonna go red sauce on this one you ready oh I'm born ready see the bathroom hmm [Music] wow and this one the chorizo is very light it's like not overpowered Perfect Balance really good balance and honestly those tater tots they really do stand out yeah 100 that's why this is one of my go-to spots it's hard to top that oh man [Music] we got no shot today no we're about to drown in burritos even if you're not here for the burrito content fast forward to stop number five and see how we're holding up literally up video is number five yes bitter your breakfast burritos that's gonna be a load all right here we go stop number two Brad where are we we're at jv's in Linda Vista Morena Boulevard Morena Boulevard kind of Point Loma adjacent yeah this is a quintessential spot right this is if anybody you ask in San Diego this is one that should be one of your top five spots but there's also kind of the Rivalry because you have jv's right across the street you also have Nicos oh Nico's kind of a cross street battle so they're also another awesome spot all right here we go JV foreign [Music] here we go stop number two we are at jv's Maria what did we get The Chronic this burrito our go-to my go-to delicious you can't go wrong with that that spicy chipotle sauce she said she was nervous about being on camera unnatural you kidding me all right we're gonna dive in here yes dive in enjoy thank you so much Maria first things first we have the Chipotle crunchy Chipotle breakfast burrito that's electric cheers it's an amazing day oh man that chipotle sauce is a media yeah oh yeah that takes you down a whole different path to breakfast Smokey you got good crunch from that bacon in there but that chipotle is the is the star and in my opinion it's tortilla as well it's really good it's different because the taco serve had some good texture with the tater tots and this kind of Rose you into a whole another burrito and the Chipotle with everything together awesome definitely a different style but wow that is Flavor Flavor City let's go and our second burrito two burritos at each stop is is aggressive it's an aggressive strategy but I'm following him blindly just with a tortilla over my eyes all the burrito ponds today this one my friends is the machaca burrito now explain to the people what machaca is machaca is shredded beef stewed tomatoes onions and peppers with scrambled eggs we actually had I don't know if you've been to Rosarito in Rosarito there's a machaca venado or deer oh it's like venison machaca so good yeah yeah let's get in there let's give it a whirl cheers machaca okay with the peppers and onions and tomatoes it's like a fajita it's really tender it all just kind of adds together for a gray burrito oh yeah also you know you're starting to get into Classics when you get the bags of carrots jalapenos onions little Gucci monster make it perfect jv's Chuck oh look at this little hole in the wall all right stop number three and we are in an unsuspecting little Plaza here in Point Loma Brad I trust you I'm trusting you today this spot's underrated it's one of my go-to spots so we got a pizza a noodle house pure tea Donuts Point Loma Pet Pantry bagels and most importantly Ortiz's Taco Shop you ready let's do it hunger level three and a half yeah that's fair that's fair I'm about a four or five I'm still feeling good I'm mobile we're gonna have to run to the next location all right Ortiz's let's go [Music] all right here we go we are at ortizas and here is the setup look at this big guy this is a beautiful looking burrito simple straightforward shot yeah this is Randy Johnson 100 mile per hour guaranteed strike every time it's just great bacon eggs the potatoes here I love the potatoes and then you get that cheese all just encasing it together look at this thing oh baby oh cheers hmm I don't know how best to describe it but the tortilla is filled I don't know if they've just pack it extra tight but it's packed in and man it packs a punch crispy bacon incredible potatoes and in different style potatoes than we've had yeah 100 and really good scrambled eggs these are more like the home style potatoes really really good salsa I can't think of a better way to start my day and be tired and ready to call me back if you don't have anything to do this is the best way to start your desk and it's San Diego it's really funny you have massive breakfast burritos and a surf and water culture so you have this then you go jump into a swimsuit and hit the beach so give you guys a morning tip if those visiting you come here for a breakfast burrito and then you go visit cabrito National Monument it is an awesome spot really beautiful drive out there end of the peninsula of Point Loma grab a breakfast burrito first and then take it out there that is the perfect way to spend a vacation morning here in San Diego all right we're gonna keep moving let's go [Music] all right ladies and gentlemen stop number four four going strong and this is where we're going can you see that where are we El Indio El Indio is the location a completely unique setup it's more of a restaurant it's becoming a little bit touristy as of late but there's a reason for that foreign [Music] of the day we are going strong feeling fit we did a thousand push-ups on the way to this location in the car this is El Indio oh this thing is heavy give me the background Ellen deal yeah I mean they opened it with 1940 spitting out awesome amazing tortillas there was a really big need from local workers in the area to have more options for lunch so they kept on asking hey we love your tortillas make us some lunch options so that's where all India was really born as a Eatery and grew into what it is today we had to go classic for this one this is the classic breakfast burrito from El Indio take a look at this let me see I'll put oh man look at that Ridiculousness all right here we go we got carne asada eggs potatoes salsa Ranchero Tomatoes jalapenos salsa verde salsa Roja here we go I almost consider this a brunch burrito there's so much flavor in the steak you're right the kick and the freshness from the tomatoes that salsa adds a whole new element and the seasoning on that carne asada shuts it apart from anything else we've had today again really good potatoes in there the eggs good staple and we can't forget the tortilla freshly made freshly made tortilla and the eggs can you see how soft and bouncy that is those eggs are so fluffy I'm a seven out of 10 full right now devouring this without salsa what does that tell you El Indio has become such a popular spot it's a traditional Mexican place it's been here forever so it's becoming very well known and deservedly so you won't be disappointed never um somehow some way we Press On we gotta knock out some jumping jacks then we're going to stop five [Music] guys we made it I never thought we would but we did this is stop number five where are we I see a Super Cuts I see a Subway I see a 1-800 Flowers what are we doing we're at Mike's red tacos tucked away in this little Nook over here they were food truck just grinding grinding grinding putting out awesome video now they have their own storefront excited to give this a whirl Mike's red tacos let's go in by the lady [Music] also one of the best things about this place is their selection of Salsas there's a little bit for everyone you have a yellow sweet spicy you got the orange salsa which they say is spicy AF they can choose what you like it's curl on this thing compound dumbbell right here this thing's huge so this video just a whole party and one hot tortilla also it wouldn't be a beauty up party without consume in there as well some way somehow I'm still hungry after looking at this well I mean when you see those videos and you see the eggs all together you have to take a bite I don't care if it's your fist spot or not it's the crunchiness it's the buttery fattiness to it and you get that softness with the Frijoles in there with the beans a little bit of pico de gallo and mouth-watering mouth melting media this is out of bounds way out of bounds and I'm gonna take this ah AF that spicy that's a lot there's yeah yeah oh man those sauces are so good wow all right I'm not gonna lie we're gonna have to wrap up a little bit of this one because I'm gonna eat this later for dinner queso as well it's bustling in here I hope you I'm forgetting one that uses over medium fries eggs in their burrito instead of scramble. It's a game changer.
