As someone with zero musical skill, this sounds like magic to me!

I can't wait to watch the 70's cop drama that this theme song is based on.

He did this again last weekend in Charlotte. I didn't record it but friends did so I can post it if you want. Till then my favorite BF improv is this classic that we've all seen. (right?- coindidentally Charlotte again)

That's fun to watch and the musicians must have been quite amused by all this!

I saw him play with Philadelphia Orchestra a few years ago and he did something similar, it was so great and a lot of fun to watch/listen to.

[Applause] some of you some of you might notice that there were some hecklers there it said something that you might not have understood it's kind of a private joke I've had between a few thousand of my closest friends okay let me explain to the orchestra we played together love but orchestras sometimes aren't exactly the same people I played with last time so let me have a little discussion and I'll help you right back okay so can you hear me right okay well in 2002 I made a live record and it was just up piano piano and me and we recorded a few nights and we used that right so on one of the nights in Chicago this guy in the front row you'll rock this and so I was like I don't know that one he's even think I need to play louder or faster so I made up a song and I called it that so word-of-mouth traveled quickly and since then since 2002 pretty much every night I don't get away with that it happening unspoken rules have been that it's a different song from scratch every time and since 2000 test a lot of different songs from scratch there salado so anyway so when is with an orchestra it adds the extra challenge of doing it on stage more more people so what I usually do is try to find something it's going to have the words rock this in there but the rest of the song very simple it'll be well below your pay grade for tonight it's gonna be very simple stuff under your heads recently I've been doing I've had an interest in instrumental hits from the seventies and since there was so many and there's so many there's so many songs that were like instrumental hits that a lot of more themes and a lot of we're just like pretty piano songs like that little music box dancer song stuff like that and we don't really do that anymore so I've been I have a little thing like site called patreon on it and it was the people who join up we just all do stuff like play records together and drink scotch and make jokes and talk about music so we've been talking about instrument easy from the 70s recently so let me see if I can give Kerry if Kerry was a television show Sena this is Raleigh but we're in Kerry so let's respect that let me give it sort of a TV show theme like the mean streets of Kerry it's always a good always like the way that sounds [Music] okay let's let's go backwards from what I would normally do let's start with lower brass I'm gonna give very very vague directions to the brass and saxs because they're used to that so let's just go something simple like well first of all let's get inspiration from a beat let's get about a tight hi-hat disco beat not opening up and then if you have a triangle we got triangle back there ding-ding-ding-ding-ding close up and close up and close open and it's like give us a little disco beat eight eighth notes on the on the triangle closed open closed open and now someone just freak out on the bongos we need that let's get some bongos going yeah you know what to do you know what to do let's do it let's get more four on the floor going yeah he's getting seventies TV show okay good so then [Music] okay so now you can rest for a second now we've got our inspiration actually let's just go let's get the words right [Music] I'll say of caring so you'll do you do what you got to do to survive in the mean streets of Kerry do what you got to do to survive in the mean streets of Kerry and actually maybe anyone that's not playing and does anything bit just scream get down so do what you got to do to survive in the mainstream check it out okay get down do what you got to do to survive in the mean streets okay great okay so we've got that now let's get let's build this up from the bottom with the lower brass and double bass you can stay our Co witness which is really staccato just go three four two three four them [Music] [Music] great that's good now let's make this complicated by going let's go a a be a got it so a a be a no let's just go a a B okay good to make sure this happens if you could so that's a so that's a name you could give us two of those and then the lower brass [Music] let's be that's all it is for being so let's try the a a be for a second one two three four [Music] one more [Music] right and we're gonna crescendo on that right so that's a a B then we're back to the end before me just a me okay now right there at the end of that B section on the crescendo at the very end let's get an obscenely high trumpet just anything just just claw your eprint down so go bum bum bum - don't don't don't don't dumb here we go this any any hi riff just go all maynard on that now let's say so now let's let's build up I'm gonna be kind of vague because I actually don't play trombone trumpet or saxophone I know nothing about these instruments at all so I'll let you decide how you're going to divide this and the fever I'm in the wrong register just never mind me but I'm thinking it should be oh so fun - r12 [Music] that's your that's your rhythm now the notes I think should probably be concert G concert b-flat and concert seat G b-flat C you just straight them just play whichever one you want and I'll just take I'll take one again so see we yeah that's right then just move that in or move that thing the same interval up a fifth and just go [Applause] [Music] beautiful okay let's start with the B section bin and oh let's try that per se make sure we get the rhythm right yeah that's that's a good rhythm I gave you different rhythm last time [Music] okay now when I say the brass in the in the saxophone just put that among yourself but what I want to give the the French horns because you gotta play that rib that's one of my favorite thank you for doing that [Applause] okay let's try the horns sorry this takes a while an orchestra let's get that everything that I've mentioned so far drums and in the in the brass let's see how that's working in the double basses we'll blow them onto the lower breast one two three [Music] great let's try that's that's that's fantastic okay now let's get the violins let's start you on the B section okay sue do [Music] the notes are because you know what they are but just in case it's G C D and G Jairo says [Music] great so that's first and second violins right the last the last one is the trumpet freaks out so when you take an octave up in that and will crescendo on this okay cellos and jelly and BOE like only one little part of something cool [Music] let's rather get great let's try the B the B section out every one B section one two three [Music] great now here's what I'm going to suggest let's go out and have the first violins the octave up already okay the whole time octave up second second violins the same register we were in fortissimo on that and then let's let's glom on to that same part with the cellos in the and the viola and the violas and in any the higher register of the cello would be nice so that's a good place to see [Music] Australians [Music] then we still stick with the same part I was wrong it stick with that okay so what else okay so [Music] this is the theme to the mean streets of Kerry is in your hands so violence split in octaves again and add a flutes Kin Kin Kin glom on to this c go [Music] and then be section [Music] [Applause] [Music] great okay this is it we're gonna record this let's cut this so with the drums the drums intro and feel free to go nuts on the Tiffany because Tiffany's is this should be part of this cmj alright here we go one achoo just drums Guinea keep that up don't start yet you do what you got to do in the streets okay you slide in the mean streets but Carrie do what you got to do what you got to do to survive in the main street do what you got to do to survive in the main street that Bob here comes the thing here comes the thing is let's do it right now [Music] [Applause] now the section [Music] got to do [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] okay [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Applause] [Music] just drums just drums in the main to survive in the mean streets loves you [Music] [Music] [Music] [Applause]
