turn with me in your Bibles to the prophecy of Isaiah at chapter number 52 Isaiah at chapter 52 and rest number seven and you're hearing the word reads how beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him that bringeth good tidings that publishes peace that bring it good tidings of good that publish if salvation has Seth on design by God reigneth thank you you may be seated the grass withers and the flower there all right if away with the word of our God shall stand forever I want to talk a moment this morning about beautiful feet beautiful feet I don't think feet are beautiful but that's that's what the scripture says beautiful feet Isaiah is not is not admiring someone's feet as much as he is saying what a welcome sound is the footfall of someone bringing good news the first two decades of the fifth century BC mount one of the great turning points in world history these were the years of depression and the Greek Wars the president Empire expanded to the Mediterranean Sea and in the process some Greek settlements were being conquered by the year 490 BC the Persian army was ready to expand their territory and move from the east into Europe they landed a large force just outside Athens on the plains of Marathon and they were prepared to attack but the Athenians needed the Spartans to come over and help them to defeat the Persians so they send a professional runner by the name of Philippa Dee's to run 140 miles from Athens to Sparta to enlist their help in fighting the Persians Philippa DS ran 140 miles in 36 hours to say to the Spartans that the Athenians were in need of their help and Sparta would not fight unless it was a full moon because of their religious purposes so Philippa Dee's runs another 140 miles back to Athens to say to them that Sparta will not fight until there's a full moon but the Athenians decide to attack the Persians in the surprise attack veer out their enemy 6400 Persians are put to death with the loss of only 192 Athenians so Philippa Dee's who has just run 140 miles to Sparta from Athens and then from Sparta back to Athens he runs another 26.2 miles to the plains of Marathon to tell the Athenians rejoice we have conquered thus the New York Marathon and the Boston Marathon and the Chevron Houston marathon 26.2 miles in honor of Philippa Dee's who ran these 26.2 miles and dropped dead after giving the announcement that the Athenians have conquered now if good news comes from Philippa Dee's and the people rejoice that the Athenians have routed the Persians how beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace how beautiful are the feet of those who tell us the good news that our God reigns can you remember the first time you heard the truth maybe it was in a little church with some clapboard floors maybe it was some old ignorant preacher who didn't have any seminary training maybe it was an aunt or grandmother your mother or your father somebody told you the good news it blessed your life it made a difference in who you are right now and I need to say to us brothers and sisters never accept for love anything that is void of truth because if I love you I have to tell you the truth I wish I had a witness in if there's no truth in it if it's flattering if it's trying to see what you want to hear then it's not real love real love will tell you what you don't want to hear just just let your mind go back to when you first heard the truth I first heard the truth in the true light Church where I was born that was paint on the windows because we couldn't afford stained glass those are pews would pinch you when you sat down that was no carpet on the floor you could hear those old women's heels clicking when our pastor was preaching and he would look over and what they called a Amen Corner and ask somebody have I got a witness and they said you got one Reverend because the Gospel story The Awl story worked back then and it still works right now you don't have to take my word for that all I need to do is remind you of the story and somebody will remember when you heard the good news they might have been 3040 years ago but you're still happy about it right now watch this he died didn't he die but brighter early Sunday morning he got up from the grill you've been hearing that since you were a child and you know I must say that every Sunday when you come here but you come here just to him he said he died didn't he die but right Anna Sunday morning he got her from the grave at that story that old story still resonates in the heart of every believer how beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace in this text the Babylonians have captured the people of God and the Persians are in conflict with the Babylonians and the Jews the children of Israel are praying to God that the presence would overthrow the Babylonians so that the Exile the remnant could go back to Jerusalem in order to appreciate this text you have to read the prophecy of Jeremiah and the Book of Lamentations Jeremiah said all that my head were rivers of water I wish I had a Bible reading my eyes were fountain of Tears I would weep day and night for the sins of the daughter of my people Jeremiah in his writing said that the people of God are stubborn and stiff-necked but God is sending them deliverance no matter how terrible that situation no matter how dark their plight Jeremiah says when I remember when I called to mind how God has blessed us and when I remember God's faithfulness I recognized that his masses are new everyone the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases his masses never come to an end they are new every morning great is thy faithfulness and then you really get a picture of it when you read Psalm 137 by the rivers of Babylon there we sat down yea we wept when we remembered Zion we hang our harps upon the Willows in the midst that there are they that carried us away captive required of us mirth and they got wasted us required of us a song saying sing us one of the songs of Zion but how shall we sing the Lord's song in a strange land and then the writer says if I forget thee O Jerusalem let my right hand forget her cunning let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth if I prefer not Jerusalem above my chief joy and that's my proudest morning Lord if I don't praise you let my tongue cleave to the roof of my mouth Lord if I'm not glad for your blessings Lord if I'm not grateful for your perfect words Lord if I don't lift my hands in the sanctuary let my right hand never be able to move again how dare you sit in God's presence a benefactor a recipient of all God's blessings and don't open your mouth I will bless the Lord at all times his praise shall continually be in my mouth the humble shall hear that all and be gray Oh magnify the Lord with me let us exalt his name together here it is all taste and see that's a lot he is good he is good he is good he is good you I wanna I don't want to just come to church to prison I don't just want to thank him on Sunday before I go to bed tonight I wish I had somebody to help me free I want to tell the Lord thinking if he lets me wake up tomorrow morning I want to tell the Lord thank you when I sit down to eat my meal I want to tell God thank you when I hug my friends and my family I want to tell God thank you I got a roof over my head I've got transportation I got food on my table I've got a reasonable portion of my heaven all o taste and see that alone he's good he's good he's good he's good he's good we could have been swept away in the flow he's good we could in lost our own he's good somebody could have drowned in our family he's good he's all taste hands Oh Oh how beautiful are the feet of those how beautiful upon the mountain are the feet of them that bring glad tiding Paul got caught up in that thought in Romans chapter 10 even way back in Romans chapter 1 he says for I am not ashamed of the gospel for it is the power of God unto salvation for everyone that believes to the Jew first and also to the Greek they're almost chapter 10 he says how shall they believe in him in whom they have not heard how shall they call on him in whom they have not believed and how shall they hear without a preacher and how shall they preach except they be sent and then he quotes isaiah how beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace i want to thank god this morning and I was there chapter 52 he's talking about salvation in the past I have been saved you go help me preach this wanted salvation as a past event relates in the first instance to what God achieved for humankind by His grace and mercy through the death of his son Jesus Christ my brothers and sisters you will never celebrate the majesty of grace until you recognize and feel the magnitude of guilt you can't shout on the majesty of grace until you felt the magnitude of guilt I'm not in this church this morning cuz I've been gue I've sinned I've displeased God I wish I had somebody to help me talk I've done enough just since Wednesday that I ought to be in my grave and when I feel that I don't come in God's presence acting like I'm some divine necessity God lets me praise Him I wish ahead of witness right here God lets me open my mouth to preach his gospel God lets me Shepherd his people when I feel my guilt I shout about God's grace and the only folk he'll you shout about grace who a vocal know what it feels like to be guilty I need some guilty lowdown rotten sinners in here this morning who got some stuff you shame to talk about but you still give God praise you still open your mouth because if it had not been for the Lord who was on your side never got a witness here I haven't kept God's commandments so closely I haven't walked so closely with God but grace mercy and the goodness of God sure that's what David says in Psalm 23 surely goodness and mercy just keeps on following me when I don't feel like praising him I just got to think about where he brought me from when I don't feel like opening my mouth I just remember where he found me is there anybody here got your own testimony you got your own story of grace you got your own memory of how good god has been to you it's alright to shout on somebody else's story and the thank God for bringing somebody else out but you ought to have your own story God brought me up God saw me through God made a way for me God open the door for me that's that's that's salvation in the past I have been saved you'll help me preach this watch it but thank God not only do I have salvation in the past I've got salvation in the present I am being saved it's an ongoing process he's not through with me yet salvation as a present reality relates to God's ongoing work in the lives of his children and it has a corporate as well as an individual expression in the formation and sanctification of his body the church you cannot be all that God wants you to be after he saves you outside the church some people laugh at the church and he called us crazy for coming here every Sunday I mentioned that a funeral here preaching this past Friday of a British mathematician and philosopher named Alfred whitehead dr. Whitehead said that we are idiots we are idiotic for a Christian idea of heaven he scorns it laughs and at our Christian idea of what heaven is he's dead now but I wish I could go and find dr. Whitehead and say to him I'd rather be a heaven bound idiot than a hell bound food because the food has said in his heart I wish I had a witness here there is no God I wish I had one or two more believers in I know there's a god I know that's a heaven I know there's a Christ I feel his holy spirit he enables he walks with me he talks with me he guides me he Shepherds me he need he directs me I believe in him and he is saving me presently salvation in the past is justification that's a forensic turn that's an accounting word forensic justification it means God puts on my account the righteousness of Jesus Christ someone will help me preacher I was bankrupt dad in trespasses and sins but when I trusted Jesus Christ as my savior God took me out of the minus column and added to my account a righteousness that I could not deserve I heard Reverend Washington I heard Redmond Washington preaching at a funeral once stand up to one of the jobs he first worked on he would go and make deposits at the bank and he went to that Bank in his sermon he said he went to that bank and the teller told him that the bank hadn't made a mistake and in his account was over four million dollar and Reverend Washington said for 30 minutes he was a millionaire but that's not the miracle he said the miracle was how God let him live the rest of the month on seventeen dollars and 46 cents Saburo the miracle is not that I'm going to be in heaven the miracle is God lets me go in the first place he looked there I wish I had a witness Rep and Washington was rich for 30 minutes but I've got an inheritance that fades not away it's eternal and is waiting on me in heaven right now because we are saved in hope the Bible calls it an earnest expectation I'm saying I'm enjoying my salvation right now but that's just an earnest payment somebody help me right here that's more waiting on but what I have right now is a 40s and as happy as I am on the 40 you ought to be there when I get the full course if I'm shopping on the appetizer you ought to be there when I get to fool me oh I want to see him look upon his face that is saying forever of his saving grace on the streets of glory let me live my Vil here's all pass whole Midlands but not yet I still gotta try sometime not yet Negroes new line on me sometimes not yet humor rising and setting of the Sun I've got to suffer a little while longer but the Bible says it does not appear what we shall be but we know that when he comes we shall be like him for we shall see him as he and we know that all of them work together for good to them that love God and those who are the called according to his purpose that when this earthly house of this Tabernacle is dissolved we have another will a house not made with hands but eternal in the heaven we know in whom we have believed and we are persuaded that is able to keep that which we have committed unto him against that day you can help me preach this want you now under him who is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we can even ask offing according to the power that is at work in us Jude says now under him who is able to keep you from falling at the Prudential found less before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy but not yet there's this there's this infomercial that comes on from time to time announcing some new product some new detergent or some some new kitchen appliance and the announcer tells you what the product affords and then he goes on to say but that's not all and then he gives you two or three other things and he says but that's not all we have to cry sometime but that's not all we get six sometime but that's not all loved ones leave us but that's not all God shall wipe all tears from our eyes but that's not all that's a tree in the middle of the city she all as crystal but that's not all the leaves on the tree are good for the healing of the nations but that's not all the tree bears twelve matter of fruit one fruit for every month but that's not all God Himself is seated on the throne and he shall be our God but that's not all no more death no more crying no more suffering but that's not all I got a letter over there a father over there but that's not all God himself the sovereign God is there the son of God is there the Spirit of God is there the saved of God is there and one day I'm going to be there because I have been saved that's justification I am being saying that's sanctification but then finally I will be where I've been looking for I have been saved that's past I'm being saved that's present but I will finally be saved that's future justification sanctification but soon I will have glorification as a future blessing salvation as a future blessing relates negatively to deliverance from wrath on the day of judgment but it relates positively to life in eternal glory what is this gospel what is this story for which we come every Sunday morning what is this noise that we make in church every week what is this rattling that the preacher does at the end of his preaching why all the celebration while the hand clapping in slapping somebody on the shoulder why all the cheers why all the tissue why all the shouting why all the crying and why does that keep you all the week to come back and hear the same thing next Sunday to shout on that you got to turn to chapter 53 who have believed our report at whom is the arm of the Lord revealed for he shall come up before him as a tender plant and as a root out of a dry ground he have no form nor comeliness and when we shall see him there's no beauty that we should desire him he is despised and rejected of men a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief and we hid as it were our faces from him he was despised and we esteemed him not but what is this gospel what is this shouting all about wow it is rattling at the end of the sermon why does the preacher Mixel much noise about salvation while the tears wild high-fives why all the slapping on the shoulder while the getting up screaming and crying is right here in the next verse surely he hath borne our griefs and carried our sorrows yet we did esteem him stricken smitten of God and afflicted somebody better hold me but he was wounded for higher transmission it was brewed for our in it the chastisement of my peace was upon him and with his stripes all we like sheep have gone astray we have turned every one to his own way and the Lord made on him the iniquity of us oh he died did me die but bright Alan Sunday morning he got up from the grave and so I came here this morning on purpose to give God pray I will bless the Lord I said at all times his praise shall continually be in my mouth then the psalmist says will magnify the Lord with me let me say something to your brothers and sister if you don't magnifying with me you ain't hurt my feeling if you're not going to bless the Lord with me I am mad with you maybe he hadn't done anything for you maybe you ain't got a testimony maybe maybe he hadn't rescued you from the trouble you got yourself in but I got my own story and I think I ought to have three or four witnesses who can help me testify he brought me from a mighty long way he kept me through danger seen and unseen there was a time when I thought I wouldn't ever stop trying but he dried my tears away is there anybody here this morning who woke up this morning with your mind stayed on Jesus I came to lift my hand until God thank you then I got somewhere to sleep tonight I want to tell God thank you because when I wasn't even calling your name you were still opening doors for me if the Lord made a way for you help me bless His name if the Lord save your soul help me magnifying me I don't care who you're standing by God's been good to you I don't care who you sitting next to God's been good to you nobody can praise him like you can pray you don't know the price of my praise you don't know why I carry on so much he's just been so good to me now you need to tell your neighbor you might want to get me some room right now you might want to push back right now cuz that preachers start talking about where God brought me from you might want to give me some room right here because I need some space right now to testify about God's goodness you better move I don't want to knock your head off now I don't want to push your knob but you better give me 50 feet right here cuz the Lord has been good to me he's opened doors he's made a way and I intend to pray to me come on help to tell God Franky thank you for your blessing thank you
