a common question i get when i speed run banjo kazooie is what is the difference between the nintendo 64 and the xbox version of the game while there is a multitude of minor differences such as visuals when speedrunning it mainly boils down to a few factors that make for a very different speed run among both versions while both versions share most glitches such as freezy peak early and 640 note door skip each also has its own exclusives the biggest exclusive glitch for the xbox version is known as dda we can manipulate the camera in the intro footage to actually kill banjo while he's in rusty bucket bay allowing us to get access to that level in only 10 seconds this allows for drastically different routes than possible on nintendo 64. since we can essentially skip spiral mountain and do a completely different level order sadly this glitch cannot be used to complete the game 100 because waza actually doesn't spawn in fp so we only end up getting 99 jiggies instead of a hundred if you grew up playing banjo-kazooie on the nintendo 64 you likely died halfway through a level and had to recollect all the notes you had already gotten while on xbox you're actually able to die and have your note count and jinjos save this leads to death being much more punishing in the nintendo 64 version because a single death can lose you minutes the greatest example of this would be an engine room where falling and dying loses only about 45 seconds on the xbox and over a minute on the nintendo 64. this one feature being added to xbox allows us to creatively route in death warps which can save a lot of time we would have to usually backtrack nintendo 64 has its own exclusive glitches as well for example we can skip the termite transformation by simply jumping up the termite tower as banjo this got patched in the xbox version bit clips are the newest glitch in banjo-kazooie discovered by 8-bit it's essentially a pixel-perfect glitch that allows banjo to clip through the ground this glitch is only useful in the nintendo 64 as taz tools have allowed for precise setups to be made to clip into mad monster mansion and click clock wood without opening up the levels it saves a lot of time and might allow nintendo 64 to be completed in under an hour since xbox doesn't have any taz tools it's been hard to discover if the setups for these clips works i myself have managed to pull off a single successful bit clip but it took me hours and it wasn't in a useful spot so while this is a nintendo 64 exclusive glitch at the moment it may be possible on xbox one day this next difference is actually pretty funny on nintendo 64 you're able to skip text by holding down a b and l when the developers brought the game over to xbox however they completely forgot to map the l button on the xbox controller there's actually no way to skip text on xbox which makes for over four minutes of time loss in the grand scheme of things it's really not that big of a deal it's just kind of funny to me that the developers forgot to map a literal button on the controller a glitch called reverse b adventure better known as rba allows for some crazy movement the method for pulling off this glitch on nintendo 64 is to actually use the 765 note door to clip through the wall and enter a loading zone in xbox this method is patched so we have to go to the bottom and use the cauldron the difference is really small but it makes for different routing in both versions previously i mentioned that note count got saved in the xbox version because of this we're actually able to utilize b movement in the 100 category there is a nintendo 64 exclusive glitch which happens to be really big this glitch of course is called door of grunty skip better known as dog skip this glitch allows us to skip 25 jiggies in the any percent route by walking through the wall and doing a frame perfect jump behind the door depending on how serious you take speed running will depend on how much you practice practice is of huge importance to top runners the nintendo 64 version has an amazing practice rom which allows for save states warps on command transformations and so so so much more sadly xbox doesn't have anything near as good you can edit save files to have all the levels unlocked but anything more than that just isn't possible at the moment for practice nintendo 64 is gonna be your best bet while there are some minor differences that i did not get to touch on today these are honestly the biggest changes and differences between both speed runs it's cool to see that the same game essentially has a very different speedrun depending on which version you play i think both versions are amazing for speedrunning and i honestly recommend both i don't have a preference one over the other if you're interested in learning this game and can't decide between the two which one to pick i hope this video helped out i would recommend going to speedrun.com and watching a run of both versions to decide well that's all for this video if you enjoyed make sure to leave a like and if you didn't leave a comment giving some feedback i'd love to hear it and feel free to subscribe to see
