big back end don't fit in the shed hey [Music] so you can see it's a little cloudy starting the sun's starting to poke out a little bit late last night we had about two sprinkles and then this morning we had about one and a half sprinkles so it just we got hay lane on the ground it got a little moist and so we couldn't fire right up otherwise we would have been hanging earlier today but now things are finally getting dry i assume jeff is jeff's over there raking dad's been hauling bales and we're gonna finish up bailing that hail where we were bailing yesterday that might be enough though i think it will be okay did you check the arrow yet no you know i don't actually farm i just watch you farm and take video of it kind of remind me about that christmas story that the dad had always come home and carry the sun around on his shoulder as he was tripled [Music] it's half [Music] most dangerous occupation in in the world you know go ahead and start it i'm ready [Music] prevents it from sticking you don't want to be white you want to be gray if you turn it white it's probably too much i've had people tell me too much is a bad thing too but i haven't found that yet not sure if they're talking about talc and this roller so after we put the talc on gather this end up put a little twist in it and make a little pigtail and start it underneath this roller but just about an inch so it doesn't grab right when you're making your build well here's something you don't want to do you don't want to pinch the loose net wrap in the hinge here you're gonna rip it okay yep okay bite all right let's run it want that to be catching hey so the hate crop over there is half dad's half jeff's dad's taking his half home right now that's probably dad's fourth or fifth load today off that first half maybe two thirds probably more like two-thirds i think we got about 150 bales so i think we're decently over a bale and a half to the acre so that's nice can't be too upset about that in this year i haven't ran this 82 35 r much yet but so far we're really liking it it seems like a solid unit it's life before sunny farms it was i'm pretty sure only a planting tractor on like a 16 or maybe a 24 row johnny you're planting that'll be nice jeff's over here raking dad's over here hauling bales got the whole farm in one field i guess so on that side we got kind of longer passes dad got those done dead and jeff so now we're working over here we got shorter passes shouldn't take too long probably about an hour and a half looks like a decent windrow right there as dad would say it's time to make the donuts can't wait to listen to that yell at me for the next hour and a half hey get it revved up yep 1000 rpm what's nice about this thing is right away you get to see the bale moves it over you know sometimes like if you're not sure if the net wrap did if it did a good job net wrapping the bale you gotta kind of turn a little bit so you can look in your rear view mirror and see if it did a good job a little burnage not much hay in there so these balers have a sensor on either side that tell you the diameter relative to the other side so you watch these two bars see this bar is a little lower so i drive so it can put more on the right and now it's going the other way and then that beat tells you that all right we're getting close and there's going to be one more beep so i put it in neutral some people would clutch but i got a weak clutching leg so i just put it in neutral hit the brake [Music] and then we dump the other bale out and then when i start pushing back down it moves my bale to the side and then it shuts the gate now we're ready to go again i don't know if i made the bale too big or what we got her kinked a little bit well we got her out everything seems to be all right hopefully this one does good yes sir oh hiccup that's a somewhat sizable windrow that's kind of nice not too shabby [Music] [Music] i asked dad what gear we should what gear he was going in he replied c there's a power shift not a power quad the power quads have abcd e this one just has one through 16 so that doesn't really help me in this situation it's pretty fun when it goes good there's still jeff raking the hay and dad's down there picking up his next load so we got two on deck going up to the drop zone one being made that's how they do that feel bumpy oh badgers we always get asked how much do these big things weigh you know it depends on moisture but a lot of times i just say about 1400 pounds we got a friend down the road i think he's made a few dang near 2000 or more it was some wetter hay you know it just kind of depends on your baler and also what size you're making them i don't think that'll ever get old just dropping them in a line like that that's that's fun that's farming looks like dad's got another full load hooking back up heading home we can fit 14 on that cart and then he gets one on the front end of the loader so it definitely takes time hauling bales that's what dad calls the perfect bale you get done with the pass and then it's making a bail it only happens once in a blue moon i'm glad you could experience that with me my uh my knees get my legs getting hot in this brace but i'm just sitting here so i'm gonna take it off it's funny my mom says i look like forrest gump with that thing on then my dad chimed in yeah you're about as smart as forrest gump i said i'll be one laughing when i'm as rich and successful as forest gump i even got my jenny already so when some of you lose some bubba said we got more money than davy crockett didn't even notice but jeff's down the road he's done raking i think i underestimated how long this was going to take if we got a good probably hour and a half left already been going an hour i think right away i thought it'd take an hour and a half or two a decent line though so working that way there's some low spots with some reed canary grass in it that stuff it's poor quality stuff but it tons out really well and so i'm starting to barely make my drop zone so i'm gonna turn it into two so this happens every once in a while beeping at me that the door's not shutting especially with this dry stuff there's a little build up where the door latches not a big issue you just gotta get out some farmers don't like doing that right in here yeah you can see there's jazz there's also a lock right here so he can do that so you don't get smushed if something were to happen that should solve it it is pretty important to put that back and unlock so when you get in the tractor you don't get to get back out to unlock it it says it's closed you can see there's quite a bit more stuff in there it's a different color looking grass that's that crappy reed canary grass i remember from class they told us it had tannins in it which i don't really know what a tannin is but i do know apparently it tastes bad and the cattle don't like it it's not very palatable it's poor quality stuff but it is what it is tonnage is kind of what we need this year quality's nice to have too in this dry year we need some we need some dang tonnage i'll tell you what you know most of the time dad would just quit hauling bales and then he'd start bailing but you know obviously i'm pretty capable of doing it he just really likes that job and he'd like to bail but i assume he's worried with how dry it is out with how dry it is out here that he just wants to get these bales moved and out of this giant field of kindling i was so excited to bail i forgot my sunglasses now i'm squinting i'm getting this line right here in the middle of my eyebrows an old man line from from squinting so much i'm aging because i because i didn't bring sunglasses we got that again he's getting dry and crumbly [Music] [Music] easy [Music] [Music] [Music] we're getting to the end here just two rounds left just remember we we just might make it with the current wrap of net wrap in the back roll with net wrap it'd be nice to get out of here without having to change that almost there uh we're gonna be close not going to have enough come on oh come on i don't think we're going to get it son of a gun there ain't nothing to pick up maybe that'll do it that'll a little bit come on come on it's point five off so as far as i know you just hit the wrap button game hopefully it's a good one last one of the day yes sir you know it's not a straight line i was i was reaching i was stretching this rows were a little bit too long i was barely making it there you go little buddy and i forgot there's actually like one round of hay over at jeff's place so we're gonna fold this up head down to jeff's which is just a mile i can see his farm right there that group of trees we'll bail that and then head home [Music] not today satan it's a lot of work for one stick [Music] there's a medium sized bale not quite one not a small i don't know water i'm thirsty we're headed home what the heck is that thing put the put the forest gunk brace back on that's all of this year's grass hey except that one that's an old one and then back in there that's also this year's stuff slappy ooh this is a perfect time every year every hang video why do you put the bales and rows why don't you stack them and here's why i listen close and listen well so when you stack them so imagine them stack these would be closer and then there'd be one on top in between them where the bale comes in and then there's another bale there when it rains or snows that seeps in but then after that wind and sun can't get into it you know just like the ground the wind in the sun doesn't get an inch down but the water can it soaks in so putting it in rows like this makes it so the wind in the sun can dry it out a little better water can't seep in and i tell you what don't take my word for it take south dakota state university research word for it if you search it best way to store bales other than either wrapped with a bunch of plastic or stored under a roof if you're storing them outside this is the best way to do it i guarantee it then they ask why don't you have a building it's expensive we don't make much money off cattle and hay maybe someday build a shed for our hay but if we're going to build a building it's probably going to be for more cabin keep those baby calves warm that's all i gotta say about that also people the slappies are in check them out at farm focus the link is below we also got tumblers on the site if you want something to drink out of i got that now that folks good yep because people were asking for slappies bam they're on there people were asking for tumblers bam they're on there so feel free to check that out link below farm focus sunny farm give me a cool [Music] drink [Music] do [Music] so [Music] [Music] [Music] that was a little disappointing i was hoping they'd find a spot where like we did a good job lining the bales up but i guess they wouldn't i guess it was decided to pick the worst spot for drone video you get what you get you don't throw a fit i reckon looks like our tomorrow this three acre in the 10 acre patch over there that we cut yesterday smells dry from in here that's all i can say you've been moving most of the bales that have been kind of situated with the plus two accumulator what do you what's your take on that well you sure spend a lot less time loading because they're just all right there and then you just kind of walk sideways across field and pick them up and it's pretty handy deal don't really got to think about where you should start or you don't really get to count bales so you park in between them well i i go like seven or eight bales and i try to put the thing between so i can load from both sides that's about it you know just not much running yeah i kind of like that thing i liked how you had it on those short rounds where you could dump them all in that one spot yeah towards the end i was losing it they're starting to get spaced out a bit but yeah i guess vary a little with the heavier the windrow or lighter windrow on then you can't do the same thing all the time but yeah kind of get them within reason so i guess come down to it you say it makes you more efficient loading bales yeah i like it i actually it's actually kind of fun to kind of plan out you know when you're dumping a bail and then it slides one way and then okay once in a while you have to dump one to make it go with the group and then next time you don't too and occasionally you know you're gonna have a third bale right in line so you dump all three at once and it's kind of fun and it works good well i guess dad's phasing himself out he let me do his favorite job which was job which was failing so that's not why i let you do it he said that it's easier on your knee than than loading bales oh yeah i couldn't do the bale yeah that's for sure i just did it so we could have three people in the field not that i'm giving up my job so once you heal up you're back to the bottom again okay but we got some stuff done and tomorrow and some things and tomorrow we're going to be doing some more things and stuff bingo so hope you enjoyed watching today is it things and stuff or stings and stuff i don't thought good yeah okay we'll see you next time have a good one must have been that education you got down there at the local school [Music] you
