Baldur's Gate 3, Rimworld Anomaly & 8 Years of YouTube | Channel Update: Spring 2024

hey there and welcome my name is Pete and this is another one of those Channel update videos today I have a few things I want to talk about the Channel's recent 8ye anniversary the future of baldis Gate 3 on the channel as well as the announcement of Rim World's Latest expansion the anomaly DLC and let's actually begin with that last one because I feel like it's an interesting case now some of you might remember that I mentioned at the very beginning of our current Rim World Series with the Believers of boo that I would like to see that series finished around episode 25 to 30 now admittedly we might actually be slightly ahead of schedule as we are not that far off from reaching the required Colony wealth to embark on the third and final chapter towards the mysterious ARA Nexus in some ways I find that a bit sad as I feel like this series in particular did not really allow us to dive too deeply into some of the characters and their quirks and relationships while on the other hand it does fit rather nicely with the announced release of the anomaly expansion at some point in April still before I talk more about anomaly there are indeed a few regrets that I have with the current R World Series which I think have contributed to the series feeling more like a transitional thing between the gritty tribal Cult of jinx and the truly high-tech endgame Series 3 that is yet to come to me the Believers of boyo could have a bit more of a unique identity and I also think that it's not really a series that showcases the biotech DLC all that well apart from the sang fages and having children in a sense the true biotech Showcase with Gene modding Mech construction and all that cool stuff will probably be that third series which in hindsight I could have seen coming and that's something I am a bit frustrated with I think the decision to limit the second series with the Believers of boo to the industrial tech level and coming from an entirely travel colony was a bit of a narrative Block in the path of exploring Gene and mechtech for me and while my rim World Series are of course also about telling a great story I am still a completionist and unfortunately I feel like the biotech series did fall short of my expectations in that regard but on the bright side that allows us to explore even more interesting new content in the next series which I think will more or less immediately follow the end of the current one which like I said should not be that far off in the future and speaking of interesting new content let's talk anomaly I'll be honest at this point about a month off of the expansion's release I am not entirely sure how I feel feel about it I do appreciate that they went in an entirely different Direction with the expansion and the attempt to integrate a psychological horror theme into a base building and management game which I think is extremely ambitious and something that I have not yet seen before and while all of that intrigues me a whole lot I also can't help but feel like anomaly might end up being one of the more optional expansions to me there are DLCs and expansions that after a while you just can't play without mostly because they attach and add on to the core gameplay mechanics so perfectly room world's ideology expansion is such a case in a game that is all about building your colony and managing the people in it A system that allows you to fine-tune how your colonists behave what they believe in and what their moral principles are It just fits perfectly and seamlessly adds on to the core gameplay borrowing from a different game but perhaps not entirely dissimilar I feel the same way about the Sims 3 one of the first games I ever played on this channel by the way and it's Generations expansion for a game that focuses so heavily on Guiding your Sims through the various stages of their lives an expansion that adds unique themes and interactions for each of these life stages just fits perfectly and I would no longer want to play The Sims 3 without it but if we stick to the Sims 3 we also find expansions like Supernatural for example which are in my opinion a lot less integral and therefore optional sure you might love the addition of werewolves witches fairies and vampires in your game but sometimes you just want to play a nor noral game of Sims that's not saying anything about the quality of the supernatural expansion it's just that its content Strays pretty far away from what the base game brings to the table and thus might not be everyone's cup of tea all the time and in some ways that is what I am afraid the an normally expansion could also be to a lesser extent perhaps an expansion that you definitely want to have for the psycho horror playthrough but also one that you might not always have active if you just want to play a regular round of Rim W don't get me wrong it's a theme that I believe is very intriguing but also one that might not fit every playthrough again that's not saying anything about the quality of the expansion after all it's not even out yet and at this point I have no reason to expect anything other than a very well polished release but I just can't get rid of this feeling that anomaly might just be a bit more Niche than the previous expansions nonetheless we will of course explore it ourselves in our next series and I would actually be really interested to hear what you think about anomaly and the content that comes with it how EXC are you for Rim world's fourth expansion and do you share some of my concerns or are you all in and is anomally everything you ever wanted for your R World Experience let me know in the comments below and let's move on to another game that has been very popular on the channel these last few weeks balers Gate 3 yes I know we only had two videos yet but that has its reasons reasons that are at the heart of why I have not yet fully committed myself to turning this game into a full series just to illustrate a new episode of balers Gate 3 essentially means sacrificing up to a week of regular content at the moment that's Rim world and XCOM because unlike with Mass Effect or XCOM I have not yet played through Baler Skate 3 multiple times and know all the little secrets so to make an episode there is a lot more research involved and at the same time I don't want to sacrifice that week of regular uploads just to release 20 to 30 minutes of video I want the video to be worth it especially in a game that features a lot of in-game dialogue and therefore those 20 to 30 minutes could be spent just talking to people I believe that at the heart of what I can bring to the table for this game is carefully planned out combat and exploration and not so much the dialogue aspect so I always want to make sure to include at least a few combat encounters obviously not all of them will be the Strategic masterpieces that was our fight against commander zul and the cambian at the end of the first video but I do want to make sure to present you with an optimal strategy for every fight just because we are playing on honor mode and in my experience being extra careful and using all available options even in those low stakes encounters that ensures that you are well prepared for the tougher fights that could threaten you with a game over and so I am I think understandably hesitant to announce a full series just because I'm afraid that I might overcommit myself to a project that's just too vast in size in scope and hurts the channel more than it benefits still I can also say that I really want to play more balder Gate 3 and I'm 99% sure that I will make more videos on it in the future will I eventually play through the entire game all the way to the end who knows but I am pretty sure that we have not yet Seen the Last of The Adventures of Sylvia haroot and with that let's talk about something a bit more festive because earlier this month the channel turned 8 years old in the past this event often coincided with me launching a new series or a special video this year I decided to give you a second balers Skate 3 episode just because I don't want to make this bigger than it actually is in reality I started working on the channel almost 1 and 1/2 years before releasing my first video you can see it when you go to my channel page and look at the data Channel officially joined YouTube December of 2014 nonetheless I do want to take a moment here to say thank you to everyone who followed and supported me over those years whether you were here from day one and saw those first series of Sims 3 mirrors Edge and Mass Effect or you just joined recently All of You Matter a whole lot to me and I wouldn't and probably couldn't do this without you and your support and speaking of support I do also want to explicitly mention all of the p supporters that have decided to pledge over the years whether it's just for a month or two or for several years
