hey guys and how's it going in today's video we're gonna try taking care of a transmission issue on this Oh three Toyota four-runner that used to be our daily driver but got replaced about about nine months ago and it's apt for six months when it it was fine whit was parked but when we went to go use it again I had a bunch of issues just from the humid summertime had a alternator lockup and the transmission ended up having an issue where it I believe it's not locking up the torque converter so we'll get in the car will kind of show you what's happening and we'll see if we can fix it and hopefully we're gonna fix it with the transmission in it cuz I sure don't feel like pulling it out I said we're in a car fire it up and guess it's a full drive and it's got all the traction control items in it and if you notice both of those are lit up and the check engine light is also lit up so other than this which I'm going to show you right now is popping here it is very abrupt going into gear which is kind of like the torque converter is locked up let's go pull it into the garage and hook the Skinner up to to it see what it says so I went in and through the skiing and what comes up is shift solenoid e-performance stuck off see how do we tap through okay shifts Illinois decontrol circuit high and again shift solenoid so it's all tying into one of the shift solenoids in the transmission that's stuck in one position and at first I kind of thought that from the fact that the thing sat for six months it is what caused the issue of it just got whatever a parked position that solenoid was in caused the issue did a little bit of homework talk to a friend possibly what there is is the plug that plugs into the transmission the on the connector the ends go bad the pins break off or corrode and essentially just the signal is not getting to the solenoid so we're gonna go lift it up and see if we can get that plug out of there and we're going to inspect the end of it see if we see any damage there if that looks okay then we'll go further with dropping the pin and try to find that solenoid and replace it like a plan yeah that's going on Ethan see what we can see as you can tell it's got a bit of rust I know the exhaust is that might that might be an issue but like I said we replaced it it's we know what time it's last legs I've got two hundred seven thousand on it we bought it with a big one 130 so it served us well and you need to be able to find that plug I think that's what we're looking at that one up inside there see any other ones see one there my exhaust badge is still holding up it's kind of got cruising around a little bit CPC I would think it would be yet like a 20 pin connector now we'll probably say that's the one huh yeah let's get ourselves set up and see if I can get that plug twice I understand sometimes the seal goes bad I am NOT gonna be able to do this one-handed I'm not even sure how you have to lift them we'll move the tab to make it do what it does put you down for a minute we can get that off well I took a little more time to look around we're back over on the driver's side looking and I would say the connector behind the shift lever is more than likely what we're looking for that one with the the off-white let's go see if I could Park you guys in a decent spot out of harm's way you can still see we will do our best to try to work around each other now I believe that should have like a bail I creeper underneath us I should have a bail that we can flip down at us you know get a see very often things I think I just saw a piece of plastic fly by that wasn't a good sign no one you guys got a better view it than I do I'm gonna try getting something that I can't get my hand up there to push don't see any pins sticking out do you I don't know it's kind of happened that's just greasers that broken off pins right there I'm gonna go take a mirror see if we can see just our house are you different cars oh I'll get there game of operation can you think Oh what first how's that I can't tell looks like I do some corrosion yeah I think those pins might have an issue issue is it's not that easy for us to get into use I hope even go fix that that's a harness that goes inside the trance and then plugs into all these shift solenoids and that corner looks like it's either burnt or should be a little less light on for you there you go I'm looking at the upper right hand corner uh I you might go take my cell phone up in there take a picture and then go blow it up and just confirm that and then we got to figure out a good way to get inside there to go fix it yeah trying to do our best that we don't have to drop the paint ring the fluids out if we get the Hornets out of it by a harness why this harness you know again this thing's definitely on its last legs and I'm not looking to put any money until we're just trying to get it to do what we need to do the one on the other side kind of burnt too doesn't it I would say in the middle a little lower a little lower because he would figure out yeah there we go I would definitely say that is missing the pins right on that edge so yeah there you go I kind of makes sense why just because it's sat it didn't want to operate correctly after that so the wiring going to that shifts no no it has just failed I want to try fixing this on the car without opening it but I don't know you know we're not gonna be able to get up now it'll time you drill bit put little pins back inside there and all that so why don't we see about maybe possibly opening up the tunnel inside the car we'll bend the metal up and then we can kind of do a repair that way again it's a it's a shitbox don't judge and we're gonna driver side compartment and we need to be probably right about inside there I don't know if that carpet goes tear or anything out of it can we cut our way their chances this one comes out feels like its bottom part of the bottle in the console I think I might do a little bit of fancy slicing I can hear someplace where no what do you know you guys is that gonna be the wall at all angle see where you yanked this carpet right out of our way I got that peel back some I'd see me probably try and open ourselves a window all right about you can't there yeah I can bend it down out of her way and then bend it back up when we're done and tack it back together undercoating oh hammer like when the sending unit goes bad in the gas tank and they cut a hole in the bed instead of a drop in the gas tank I think we're kind of doing that same idea like you know pen drill and stuff they try to bore little pins down and stick him in anything cutting wheel part of your best bet I wonder if we could stay from where this this double metal is I'm gonna go take a peek again from the underneath I'm gonna go see what this bolt goes through and kind of use that for a relationship and maybe we'll draw a picture where that plug is go from there yeah that plug is roughly right here so we're gonna adjust our calibration a tad and maybe we'll go down that rib right there we say no and I'll call that a better [Music] you get the idea I'll bring you back one he get sparks in your eyes you think we're in lecture if I got the top two corners second layer good just need a little more tweaking right on that corner I know he's alert suck-up I cut all the wires off in the backside huh slice your hand open getting in I can see it good idea my beeper there we are is that it's gonna be fun to try and fix huh hmm fine right I think any air gun yeah well inside there so I'm thinking you guys you know that's gonna help her hurt so it's these three pins right here that can you up - Gus you should plate touch those other ones gingerly I feel like they're gonna stay I wonder if we could take a pin drill I mean the post is still on the top we just have to reconnect to them and make something that stands straight up so I got two thoughts one is if we just take a pin drill when we kind of drill down in the plastic next to it Superman drill down in the plastic next to it and we just drive a pin down an air of sorts and or the other part was if you heat one if we heat the pan up a little plastic just kind of melt away and go down in there I kind of like the drilling idea better just for the fact that I would be afraid that the pin that we put in doesn't make contact with that pin due to like a little bit of melted plastic in between so I think maybe we should try that first we'll see how that goes with a little pin drill and if it will do its thing not any other I don't want to take that screw out of there and guys you probably thinking that too and just see if we lift up on that but that kind of goes down into the trans and again there's a harness inside the trans and I doubt there's any slack in that if there is it's probably maybe just a half inch or so it's not like that's gonna be I don't think loose enough for it to come up out of the hole you know that what we're working down in so we're working down in I'll keep backing up so that's what I mean by the mini drill use kind of a handheld Arbor and we're probably just gonna go right for the largest bit I grabbed these for doing carburetors but I think we're using on this you think chances are getting you in there I'm going to try to get in there with that and drill ourselves three little holes three blind holes I definitely say this is one of the times when you wish ya dentist tools that's really what you need get this cavity out of here you know don't so we're gonna keep working what we gonna you know going for a bigger bit because the other the little one just wouldn't cut the plastic so I do believe we're getting somewhere looks like a hole running down this long side of that pin doesn't it yeah deep Rolly you're holy about 3/16 I want to go how about double that depth hopefully hope you can see I have three drill bits sitting upside down in the holes and I do believe we are right down alongside those pins so I think we should get a good contact so I'm trying to figure out how are we gonna keep me in there I thought part of me was thinking you know me put a little bit of epoxy and then kind of drive them in maybe we'll go up one size drill bit and maybe it'll be a press fit we can kind of tap them in I also want to take a Sharpie blade very gingerly let me get those three out of there okay I'm gonna go around with a sharpie blade I want to clean up the rest of the corrosion I don't want to really you know you're finding any of those pins that are left there because we don't want to kill them and have to do more of the same so you can see that green growing around there yeah that upper right on the basis of the pins all that corrosion right there I tried scraping that off and then some of the pins have like a black coating on there I'm just gonna run down with a sharpie blade up and down the side and see if we just scratched some of that corrosion off of there off I said I'm giving a pretty much a slim to none chance of being able to to pick out the broken pins why don't we could push them yeah I have a feeling they're gonna be so tight that we're just gonna have to probably drill them out yeah I don't see yes sir not much if I hope probably what we should do that anyone's like it's got a little bit of height on it might be like a under that one because the holes are offset down below I wonder if we should come back with a drill we just kind of drill favoring that side also just like we did down below and they'll have a better chance of lining up you also got to kind of open them up a little bit to see it was gonna be easy did I well okay drone the plastic by hand but trying to get that brass pin out of there is gonna be a bit of a pain so the drill bit would not stick in the Chuck because the trucks not small enough but that should do it I said I did good except for the middle one which is kind of leaning to the wrong side but we are gonna go cut it off and he'll measure his pins but probably about I don't about 3/8 of an inch up we're gonna slice them off right across and then hopefully try to squeeze both halves together I think it's going to fight me that middle one is not sitting in its correct socket that's why see it make play with that one a little bit more I'm not sure I probably have a dialogic grease down so inside it and help with the corrosion I don't know if I want on the pins or not though I may just gonna flow wood felt might just spray some fluid film in there and cut them back down to size and see if we can close it up if it won't close up we're gonna have to come back probably with some like solid copper wire and we'll just bend them for the offset of where the offset is down below but worry about that when we get there let's see if we can get this together first I got them cut back yeah I'm a little too short but I'm not sure let's go spray yeah that's a nice smooth spray let's go with we're just doing that for future corrosion I think I chances are the middle ones really gonna fight us that just clip all the way down by itself look that little tab off that's a earlier is it down oh you know what the test is right fire it up on your putting gear see what it does I got skiing tool plugged in but I didn't reset it let's go fire it up run park we'll just see if it resets itself Ferb check out the light staying on and they're all still on so let's go reset it it's in that anyway do its thing I'm doing this one so I'm still kind of learning how the thumb our way through it so let's get K week codes we already kind of know what that was right yeah shift solenoid one a five that's good let's go see what else comes up no that way okay okay pressure of control solenoid II electrical just so many perform you're stuck off okay so let's go with escape and then erase codes yesterday's codes should zhonya the missions on well okay that's emissions related let's go see [Music] Check Engine way staying on those are so on hmm quite sure if it did what it was supposed to he's trying it is yeah I think our plug works very well let's go up let's go to meet the code team that's coming up [Music] [Applause] [Music] you're in communication that might have been me not having the key on my first shot hit we now know we just like baked the whole system doesn't even work it all in it let's I am going to your unplug and reset and see if it works this time down to one pressure control solenoid II electrical that's the only one pressure control solenoid II so I mean the transfer maybe why I wonder one of those pins aren't making it we maybe got the other two to work let's erase codes one more time yeah but you that middle pin that we were screwing around with didn't make contact we could try putting them in the plug part in the base part of it and put the plug on I don't want to go a little bit taller too I think I cut them too short is that plug can go together and you know the bottom quarter inch of the original pins never touches last time yeah alright let's undo that see what failed the three pins are still up inside pull out I would say again I think that middle one is our issue I am gonna go try feeding them down into the connector part of things and putting it back on and see if that will get us a better pattern I'm gonna cut ourselves another set longer and them going around again they end up putting two pins in the lower part and one in the upper yeah I was able to get it clicked back together so still come on put that one solenoid so let's go clear that hopefully don't you have another problem here to [Music] check engine lights out this time back on that's a much better sign huh let's go try popping her in gear we're up on the lift so I don't know if this guy's screw us up or not actually how to pop into gear hard to say hey think you're on a slippery road the wheels are off the ground sure didn't like that yes I went back again and that's got she's so annoyed be control circuit shift solenoid a control circuit so a B and E maybe all three of them are screwing up now so maybe I still think we got a problem with one of those pins it might be the voltage one going down to it I don't know it's again check engine light is on still a good the aircon we might you might have it hmm didn't like going to reverse and forward again so the one that comes up now is torque converter clutch solenoid so it's the only one he's coming up the other ones went away so I think we're in the right location with dealing with the pins I'm gonna go take some more time and the ones that didn't break I want take some time I'm really kind of cleaned them up and maybe up into the pin connector to maybe try to run something up in there to clean that off I just want to maybe all my have such a bad corrosion that they're not getting across yes it's working listen to when it goes and drive no bang hecho no bang traction control a little bit cuz R up in the air and doesn't it doesn't know that seems for sliding on ice all the years if I speak [Applause] back to rivers no more betting into I do believe our torque converter is who's your daddy catch you it wasn't that plug connector I'll exclaiming him a little bit just kind of kept going into making sure what was doing what I run it through everything does what did she do all right from the tool verse park I'm mutually drive does not bad when a winner I'm getting me a chicken dinner going through one more time he just see if there's any coats on there we have no check engine light so I wouldn't expect to see any so that one pin that was leaning on an angle of the three I had I had one of them I told you it kind of drilled funky and the plug that I plugged in I had it sticking out of it but it was kind of like a crossed a little bit what I ended up doing was in the plug I took let's get this thing do what's supposed to be doing in the plug all right had made my day the plug had you know upward drilled up the material and I stuck the piece of drill bit in I went took the bit back out and took a pic and and push the breast like sleeve back over to the other side and I put the drill bit back in again a sat on a different angle didn't they were more parallel with each other put it back in it was a lot tighter to get the plug in and clicked in so was it was literally just missing one of the pins and I did finally get it so I'm gonna go I broke the little tab off the bail that holds up to it I'm gonna put a tie wrap on that just to hold it up in place Bend everything up probably put attacker to you on them not gonna weld it all the way around just in case for future access window will have it I might take a little bit of silicone just cool you know and the raghu go back on again this is up towards the end of its life but we're trying to extend a little bit more that we can out of it I'm psyched right glad I found that I got it so with that guys I think I'm gonna go sign her off I think y'all fanning out in the garage me and have a little bit of fun wrenching and trying to do stuff on the cheap and this was probably about fifty sounds for the cutting wheel that we got invested in this one oh it's we drilled three drill bits hey guys thanks a lot for hanging out see you in the next one later like it never even happened I even well did the exhaust [Music] because he was wrong
