Back To The Basics: Walk by Faith

[Music] hello everyone i'm jerry savelle welcome and i thank you for joining me today on back to the basics this is so exciting i love teaching the word of god i love teaching the basic principles that i learned over 50 years ago that are still working for me today and it's always a joy to have the opportunity to teach them to people that perhaps have never heard them before now i know many of you that are watching you've heard them you've been living by faith for quite some time but it never hurts to hear it again and again and again it's refreshing you know as i said many times i still to this day listen to those old old messages that i still have uh by kenneth hagin and kenneth copeland oral roberts t.l osborn john osteen messages on faith and i still listen to them in fact i've had them downloaded on my ipod i carry that little ipod with me when i'm traveling and many times when i'm flying somewhere i'll just pull it out of my shirt pocket and i'll start listening to one of those faith and inspiring faith-building messages and i tell you by the time i land i feel like biting the bottom out of the chair that i was sitting in you know i mean it just it just stirred you up and so i want to encourage you don't ever get to the place where you think you've heard enough don't ever get to the place where you think you don't need to hear anymore no faith comes by hearing and hearing it didn't say faith came by having heard it comes by hearing and hearing now today i want to talk about what i call the nature of faith the nature of faith and and three primary principles that i want to deal with in today's program number one faith sees number two faith speaks and then number three faith acts this is the nature of faith faith sees faith speaks and faith acts now if you have your bibles with me or with you rather go with me to second corinthians chapter 5 and verse 7. i'm sure you're familiar with this verse but if you're not then highlight it as we read it it says in verse 7 for we walk by faith and not by sight we walk by faith and not by sight what does that mean that means we are more convinced about what the word of god says than what we can see with our natural physical eyes you say well i don't understand that well back 50 years ago i didn't understand it either but i kept reading it i kept hearing other men talk about it i kept listening to the holy spirit until it became a revelation to me what it simply means is we do not base our lives on natural physical circumstances what we can perceive with our five physical senses let me give you an example here in second corinthians chapter four and verse 18. it says while we look not at the things which are seen but at the things which are not seen for the things which are seen are temporal but the things which are not seen are eternal now you know that kind of sounds a little confusing if you if you don't have any insight into what i'm talking about today somebody might say well how can i see something that you can't see well it's called looking through the eyes of faith looking through the eyes of faith you know an example you can take out your checkbook and you can look at your last entry and then you can look at your balance and it may be pretty close to zero and if you base your faith on what you can see then it's not likely that will ever change but if you look at that zero now i'm not saying pretend it doesn't exist it's there but if you look at that zero and say i am not moved by what i see i'm moved only by what i believe and god's word says that he's my source of supply and i believe he is capable of blessing me financially so that zero will not continually remain in my checkbook i'm believing god for a financial breakthrough what are you doing you're looking through the eye of faith and not allowing what you can see in the natural to to control you or to be final authority now once again i'm not pretending that the zero is not there let me add something to it and i don't write checks with a zero balance hoping that before it's deposited that it'll something will happen and it'll clear the bank no i don't do that either i'm just saying i don't allow that zero to control what i believe i believe that god is my source and somehow some way he's going to change that zero why because it says things which are seen are temporal in other words they're not permanent they are temporary and another great definition is subject to change amen so don't allow what you see to control you don't allow it to be final authority now if you're having a struggle with being able to see through the eye of faith then that just means you need to spend more time in the word just keep spending time in the word now let me show you that jesus operated this way you know he he could see plainly a man standing in front of him who had leprosy but notice he was not moved by the leprosy he was looking through the eye of faith in fact let me give you an example in the book of luke there's a story where it says that there were ten lepers standing afar off and they heard that jesus was in the village nearby now because they had the leprosy they were unclean they were not allowed in that village but when they heard and when they saw him they began to cry out jesus master son of david have mercy on us now listen to what he said go show yourself to the priest now in the natural they can't do that why because under levitical law you can only go to the priests once you've been cleansed of leprosy they still had the leprosy but notice what jesus is doing he's looking beyond the natural he's looking beyond the physical he's looking beyond what he can see with his natural eyes and he's looking through the eye of faith and what is he saying go show yourself to the priest in other words he's seeing the end result now if you follow this story now i'm not going to tell you where it is i want you to do some homework on your own you look it up yourself and if you follow the story it says that as they went they were cleansed listen to that as they went they were cleansed what happened the moment that he said go show yourself to the priest they stopped looking in the natural they stopped looking at excuse me the leprosy and they started looking through the eye of faith they started seeing what jesus was seeing the end result cleansed and the bible says as they went as they were going toward the priest they were cleansed if you keep reading it says by the time they got to the priest they were all cleansed all ten of them were cleansed and one of them came back and fell at the feet of jesus and and began to praise him and thank him for that miracle in his life jesus said weren't they all ten cleansed where's the other nine in other words notice jesus believed that when he said go show yourself to the priest he believed that what he saw through the eye of faith had taken place and he's now questioning where are the other nine didn't they all get cleansed but only one of them came back to give god praise but they were all cleansed notice it required first of all seeing through the eye of faith so the reason i say part of the nature of faith is faith sees you have to see the answer before it manifests and the answer is from the word of god you know i don't know how god's going to supply my need i don't know how he's going to bring that money into my life i don't know how or who he might use to make it happen but i i can't get my eyes on people i've got to keep my eyes on it is written and it is written says my god shall supply all your need according to his riches and glory by christ jesus so i've got my faith focused on the word my faith sees the answer now the second part of the nature of faith is faith speaks let's go back to the 11th chapter mark now i'll tell you what let's just stay right here in second corinthians and verse 13. now listen to this now paul is quoting david from the psalms and he says we having the same spirit of faith according as it is written now he he knew that this had been written in the psalms by david and he's quoting david he said we having the same spirit of faith according as it is written i believed and therefore have i spoken we also believe and therefore speak now notice part of believing is speaking you know jesus made this statement out of the abundance of the heart this is found in matthew chapter 12. out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks whatever you truly believe in your heart that's what's going to come out of your mouth if you're constantly talking sickness and disease that's what's in your heart if you're constantly talking lack and and won't and and woe is me then that's what's in your heart but you can replace what's in your heart with the word of god that's the reason solomon said in proverbs chapter 4 my son attend to my words let them get down into your heart and so you can replace all that negative speech by putting the word of god deep down in your heart and then out of the abundance of your heart your mouth will speak so notice here paul says just like david i believe and therefore have i spoken in other words what you truly believe you're going to speak now if you don't believe that god's going to supply your needs then more than likely you're not going to talk it if you don't believe that god is going to heal your body then more than likely you're not going to talk it if you don't believe that your circumstances are going to change then more than likely you're not going to talk it now once again faith sees and faith speaks i'm going through this quickly there's so much more we'll get to so much more of it down the road but i want to leave you with these principles today and then finally before we close faith acts faith acts in other words faith doesn't lie dormant the bible says that we're to be doers of the word and not hearers only let me give you an exam good example uh many years ago i i was traveling and and uh i'd been preaching every day and every night for a couple of weeks and and all of a sudden i got all the symptoms of the flu and boy i'm telling you i didn't feel good at all i felt like a dog i didn't want to get out of bed i didn't want to go preach and if i had been moved by what i felt i'd have called somebody and say you're going to have to preach in my behalf i can't go i don't feel good and i'm laying there you know and i'm hearing you know this voice on the inside which was not the voice of god and it was saying well you don't need to go you need to just stay in bed get somebody else to do it for you that sounded real good however if i truly believe that i'm healed by the stripes of jesus like the bible says so then i'm not going to stay in bed all day and and allow satan to keep sickness and disease in my body now i had to get up out of bed now i didn't get up jumping i didn't get up you know running around the bed i got up and i was so weak i could hardly put one foot in front of the other but i did it why because faith sees faith speaks and faith acts i'm seeing myself healed i'm speaking healing and now i'm acting as though i'm healed i got up i showered i shaved i put on my clothes i got in the car and i headed toward that meeting and i tell you all the way over there i did not feel like going to that pulpit and preaching but by the time i got to the pulpit i'm telling you the healing power of god came on me delivered me set me free and i preached like the house was on fire praise god why because i learned a long long time ago faith sees i saw myself healed faith speaks i'm talking healing and faith acts i'm acting as though i'm healed so these are basic principles and we'll we'll cover them in depth a little more down the road but i wanted to leave that with you today because this is very important if you've never heard these things then i pray that you got a revelation today and that you'll begin to apply these things in your life so that you can live a victorious life through faith once again thank you for joining me and i'll see you again next week
