Atenas, Costa Rica-Living in the countryside of Costa Rica

[Music] hi this is roger peterson in this video we're going to take a travel through attendance look at about 30 minutes outside of san jose and it's becoming a hot spot for expats here in costa rica so let's take a look at attenus and also we're going to look at some houses and give you an idea what houses are going for in certain price ranges just so you get an idea of what costs are like as well so athena's was founded over 150 years ago when the local political leader at the time was a great follower of greek culture and he decided to name the area athenas made up of only 127 square kilometers and it's got a population of about twenty thousand uh three hundred persons so definitely this is a small town uh feeling that you get when you live in a tennis i think that's what attracts a lot of people to the area yet you're now only 35 40 minute drive uh into the city center of san jose where you can have the hustle and bustle so i think it combines that proximity to a busy lifestyle with a very quiet country living attendance is not just the name of the town it is also the name of the canton the canton's like the county and within the county of matanus we have also the areas of concepcion escobar jesus mercedes san jose and santa roll all these districts make up the canton of attendance okay we're going to stop off and pick up shelly who is a long time resident of attenus and is the manager of the re max office here in latinus and she's been kind enough to agree to show us some properties in order for us to get an idea of what you can get in attendance and at what price ranges and what life and attendance is generally like as you can see from these listings there's a lot of rental options and attendance as well prices range from 400 per month on up to thousands of dollars so a lot of rental options there for you in attendance there are several gated communities as options places where to live uh one popular one that we're entering to now is called roca verde and the reason it's very popular is that it's practically walking distance into the town of attenus most of the properties you're going to find are sitting up on the hillside so they generally enjoy really spectacular views in a tennis you can probably find residential homes starting at around 150 000 dollars and going on up this particular example that we're touring now is 219 000 and the specs are appearing on the screen for you now okay we're going to head out of roca verde and see what else shelley has in store for us some other properties outside of the this area in the is sometimes referred to as antennas best climate and that is due to a reference in a review in the 1960s from national geographic which labeled the tennis to have one of the best climates in the world and so that has kind of stuck as a logo for the area of antennas with that said and you can see on this chart that the average temperature in attainus is indeed very comfortable year round [Music] okay we're heading back on the athena's country roads um probably we're heading towards a country home because this type of home in this setting sits on a bit more acreage this one sits on almost two acres of land so once we get to the house we'll tour around the gardens and give you more information about the house in costa rica we are blessed to be able to grow fruits and vegetables a year round so as you can see i'm walking in the backyard of this property you can see a lot of fruit trees here we are walking towards the back walking up on the house it's got a pool and just a lot of amenities for countryside living here entertainers included with this property is the little jungle paradise uh guest house which is 75 square meters and has its own pool popping up on the screen now is the specs for the house and the price okay we're going to cut right through the center main street of downtown antenna so you can get an idea what that looks like with all sorts of little shops yeah lots of little stores along here great big hardware store to the left it's vargas that's also the bus terminal down there so there's these little stores and then this is a little strip mall so we have three banks we have bangkok national uh well this is the municipal building we already went you know this way another hardware store miranda okay we're gonna head out of downtown tennis and we're going to head over and take a look at one more property before we wrap up our visit of atinus [Music] so we've arrived at the property this is a three bedroom home with an art studio slash office located on the property as well it is a single story home with a swimming pool and the price and the specs are coming up on the screen for you now as you can see tennis has a lot of options for you so if you're looking for that countryside laid back feeling uh yet pretty close to the hustle and bustle of san jose ortega's maybe that option for you and a lot of different housing options at all kinds
