ASMR beachcombing for rare Scottish cowrie shells! Groatie Buckie hunting & creating a silver ring!

do it [Music] [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] [Music] cool [Music] so today we've come to the beautiful south west coast of scotland and we're in search of tiny cowrie shells which in scotland are called grote buggies and we've been here before and found some there's not huge amounts yeah um so when we do find some it's quite special yeah let's see if we can find anything well actually the last time we're here was years ago yeah so a few years ago yeah the beach might have changed completely so yeah let's have a let's have a look and see what can find it's our first grote bucky and it's mine because alex said the first one who finds one has to give it to the other person yeah and i'm the first to find it and if we turn it over if it has nothing on the back then it is an atlantic carry or an atlantic roti bucky and if it has dots on the back it is a um i can't remember an atlantic or a west coast there it is a uh i can't remember we'll put it on the screen we'll put on the screen i can't remember it might come to me later but it's not an atlantic carry anyway oh it wasn't a european something there might be a european one anyway here you go thank you it's a gift thank you oh wow i love it it's precious it is i just found two more one of them's atlantic can you see it has no dots on and the other one i can't remember i think it might be european i don't know if i'm right i've totally forgotten it's been a while since we've been grotty bucky hunting but there we go aren't they absolutely beautiful mum's just found her first growty verkey it's quite a big one as well it's lovely i love that yay i've found another one so that means we've got five all together [Music] so there are only two species of carry found in the uk european trivia moniker and atlantic trivia arctica known as grote buckies in northern scotland bucky being a scottish name for welks they are thought to be named after the village of jonah groats in the far north easterly tip of scotland the wee mollusks have been collected around the coast of the uk for centuries and are widely thought to bring good luck in the 19th and early 20th centuries generations of local shore sellers spent hours searching to find grote buckies on the beaches of jonah groats to sell as jewelry to tourists 80 of the tiny shells were required to make a necklace and between 400 and 500 necklaces could be sold during the tourist season at four shillings and six months a substantial sum in victorian and audient times atlantic carries are generally smaller than european curries and are more common in the north european carries are bigger and have three brown spots on their top side both species are a pinkish brown colour on top although atlantic carries are paler [Music] treasures got quite a big one there and a medium one and a little one they look like atlantic carries now looks like a european curry beautiful delicate little shells they're so gorgeous oh okay spot the grotty bucky can you see it i'll give you a second can you see it there it is beautiful whoops look how tiny it is that's like one of the tiniest ones i've ever found these are normal sized gritty pockies and then there's that little guy teeny tiny [Music] do [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] so [Music] [Music] you [Music] you [Music] [Laughter] [Music] you [Music] so [Music] so [Music] foreign [Music] would you rather be doing making things [Music] [Music] [Music] the ice cream man's here [Music] so [Music] um [Music] [Applause] okay so there it is mom's finished grotty bucky ring set in sterling silver beautiful simple little ring and the shrooms love it too look at that brown schwa yep schmooze love it it's the most beautiful like porcelain shell absolutely gorgeous and i've actually got some i cast these quite a long time ago now they are little solid silver grotty buckies and a little dog whelk there as well and i'm thinking of finally making these bad boys into necklaces or jewelry or something like that to be put into the shop very soon as well so look out for those if you're interested in owning a little grote bucky necklace for yourself and on that note uh me and the shrews are gonna say goodbye so goodbye [Music] she's got a bit of a funny hairdo do ah ah
