Are There Any Good CHINESE CARS?

I remember [Music] so Simo quota we have over here at a table for have all maybe I don't know I don't know how to pronounce that it's not a real thing well it's a Chinese car and that's what we're going to be doing today is we're going to be talking about Chinese cars will even own one don't you I do so let's get on the road and start talking about it I actually thought we should go to a Chinese car dealership to go to check it out yeah brilliant idea let's do it so Simo we're talking about Chinese cars here what are the local Chinese people's impression of Chinese cars it's an interesting question because you'd think you know in America it's okay to drive an American car if you have a Chevy and the Cornette forward whatever it looks like isn't it like yeah buy American a lot of people obviously don't care about that but a lot of people are proud of buying an American car right but it is the exact opposite here in that you only buy a Chinese car if you don't have the means to buy a imported car right yeah so you'll often see especially like in an affluent area pretty much if you've seen any of our videos you'll notice that everything is imported Honda Toyota on GM products we have shingyoji assemblies BMW Audi all that kind of stuff Volkswagen and the funny thing is is that Chinese people would prefer to write or drive those because they are a cultural face and it is more prestigious to have a more expensive foreign brand right correct so you know the general perception of Chinese cars here in China is a negative one but I will say this as soon as you leave an affluent area for example we are oh by the way there's a Mazda 3 oh sorry a high ma 3 which is actually a mean seahorse that's a mazda ripoff right yeah yeah anyway my point being is that as soon as you leave the more affluent areas you will see people driving Chinese cars and not out of a nationalist pride but out of financial restriction yeah well everybody knows I Drive a Chinese car so I think I'd better talk about it and first thing I'm going to talk about you talk about this national I mean this pride this face thing when I bought my car because it's a Chinese brand it's a cherry they called it a rich it was like a sub brand which they've discontinued now anyway at the dealership they actually asked me if I wanted to put Toyota badges on the car because it's actually a copy of a Toyota Yaris right and if you park next to a Yaris you can almost go defense yeah they were like do you want to support or Bajorans extra 200 rmb and I was like no you know I'm not going to pretend it's something it's not but I see I see badging all the yeah I mean just so that people don't think you're driving a Chinese car right total funny it when Chinese people see that I'm driving a Chinese car they always ask me like why right and they say Chinese cars they literally say to me Chinese cars are no good you can drive them for about a year and then the problems start and then you got to throw it away that's pretty much what they say to me right they keep telling me sell it as soon as you can which is kind of silly um but to be honest I'm going to list the problems that I've had that I've had with the thing and then I mean I've driven it a lot it's got almost a hundred thousand kilometers now it's like ninety eight thousand kilometers I guess you need over the course of six years now that I've been driving that thing the aircon compressor has been replaced three times Wow and fixed once so that aircon compressor really doesn't last very very well sure probably the most disturbing thing to me though is the rubber actually perished you know like the air the air cleaner has like a rubber hose that goes between the sort of throttle body and the air cleaner itself right the rubber actually perished and so it was sucking in dirty air directly into the engine because the actual rubber tube broke just completely perished and broke broke apart disintegrated and I didn't notice he didn't so was sucking in crap into the engine and so you know it messed up the oxygen sense and stuff but probably the biggest issue that I've had coz look it's never not worked it's always kept going it's never broken down on me but the biggest thing dude honestly I was driving down the highway and the gear selector cable snapped it was the middle of dental block I had no idea but that's never happened to me before in a car so literally I changed gear and I went clunk and then the gear shifter was just loose you know Wow it was pretty bad I had to like stop on the side of the highway and manually with my hands like down at the gearbox like shove it into like fourth gear and then try and clutch pull on fourth gear Wow and then it was pretty bad like honestly it was pretty bad but yeah that's the biggest catastrophic failure um other than that though I'm gonna give it full marks for trying it hasn't like I said broken down on me I still drive it to this day and sure I'm fairly happy with it it gets me from A to B yeah but if I wasn't a mechanic it wouldn't be the car for me that's sure I figured it was kind of interesting to come here because we're now in the domestic section of Chinese car dealership yeah and you can see brilliant Sato turn around here yeah have a look at these as that yeah Satya I love this on here yeah this is out yes actually just a copy of a Kia one of those Kia yes carry of a Satya yep these are all set yes these are the cheaper you know the cheaper versions of basically Western copy cars actually the funny thing is is that when you need someone in China they actually has a Chinese car they will further distinguish which Chinese cars are better than the others yeah I find that really interesting so Satya is actually kind of lower on the end but recently they've been making bigger and bigger cars because trying people love SUVs they absolutely they do what are we go over here we've got Chung on teacher whatever so yeah that's mostly like work vehicles they make right yeah don't they they make like nice job there what's this leaf on we got Lee fun right fun they don't even know and here's uki rate on it was later on there's a poll that's the car we just saw I thought I'm thinking of the hover but yeah Havel is its own brand a yeah that's a higher end Chinese brand they actually participate in the tell America and rally and the car as well the Chinese team uses tables others are do expensive how do they do in that ready I'm not I'm not gonna come sit on that okay you guys can look up the results for yourself brilliant audio was famous for making I believe it was a copy of the Porsche Cayenne yeah I think they do that don't they do they get one there I'll go have a look I don't think so it looks like really crappy cars these are called bread vans basically because they look like a loaf of bread and that's the most common copy you'll see here in China here's the hi MA dealership the fake Mazda you guys can see the logo is even very similar yes hi MA is definitely one of those ones you can actually can actually fool you on the road yeah until you look really really closely to say as a hi not three yeah let's let's get a shot of the home our three it's an interesting episode you can see Winston getting around going around filming in the process as well yeah so this is I'm a teacher that's what it actually says there yeah which means seahorse so we ever hear right ahead yeah yeah this is Lux Jen and actually that's a partnership cooperation with Taiwan Oh Taiwan first auto friend they sold the China and you can see you can get like a you know a normal sized car for about ten thousand US dollars oh you mean over there the distance Lux Jenner yeah all right they're gonna complete they're definitely the highest level of Chinese brand cars in terms of price and their SUV is about I would say about $20,000 so much cheaper than a you know an import part right but still much more expensive than you pay for something like a cherry yeah yeah yeah give me a second you're been for me Bob Ward okay yeah okay hang on I gotta get that on camera what do you drive I Drive a book Lord this should be called bored ward it's Borg ward they're warding off the boards man that's true resistance is futile unless you've got a board reward anyway here's the lux genuine talking about overhearing yeah I hear nothing but good things for Chinese people about them they're pretty cheap man okay I'm comparing them to like really domestic brands yeah and then this is this is actually leading to the next point that I want to talk about with partnerships right yeah so here we're at Shanghai Volkswagen and what that means is you wouldn't at this dealership in particular yeah you wouldn't be able to buy a real whole swag and these are Shanghai Volkswagen which are Chinese parts and the Chinese company in Shanghai so they're famous for the first car they brought over which was the Santana which you might have seen for my friend Pras I got really horrible piece of and these are actually all made in Shanghai at the factory here and these are China specific examples and so these are all you know basically Chinese cars but under the guise or brand of milk like they have to pause the the quality control and stuff yes welcome better yeah I mean it's basically made in China folks are and there I mean it's a huge step up theory of the real Mazda right yep oh no that's just a real master parked outside this side what's this one again then Ichi whatever this one's photon this one sorry I don't know what this is yeah I know the brand this is what the whole taxis used to be like Hong Qi or something oh yeah yeah I think so anyway let me get a little bit of this sure over here we have a zoo zoo which actually makes trucks for China they make like the good trucks I know they make does blue truck Sunday yeah I mean the good versions of those yeah i'm and then ford of course you have over here so you have real brands but i like this one I've always thought this is really funny of JMC which is obviously a copy of GMC yeah GMC trucks are actually not allowed to drive in Shenzhen anymore yeah I actually have to put like a red strip on them to show that they're not allowed to ride in big cities yeah let's get the J JMC because yeah that is a blatant GMC copy so for example this JMC here starts at 80,000 T 75,000 RB so it's about $12,000 per pickup truck you can see very cheap but let me tell you something I've been in these a few times oh there are awful they ride like a like a red wagon okay they're absolutely terrible they've got like these crappy old 1.80 2-liter these diesels this is the 2.8 turbo diesel yeah but it makes like absolutely no horsepower yeah they're just rubbish yeah they're just rubbish and up a heavier to have the Bui DF 0 that's pulling out in front of you there yeah talk about that one that is the Toyota AYGO I go knock off its got like a 0.8 litre engine yeah three cylinder I test drove on almost bought one at the better looking they're looking they're better like they're pretty bad alright terrible like the engines awful so done totally bad let me talk with us here up ad you see the F aw that's the import Volkswagen so down there you have the Chinese domestic the this over here is the Suzuki and this is actually where I bought my wife's Suzuki Swift this exact one basically in orange and this is a partnership and I want to give you an example I paid thirteen thousand US dollars for her Swift you have to buy the import one of that here is twenty two thousand dollars right yeah and I drove a real imported one and I have to tell you the Chinese partnership one that's made in China is I'd say fifty percent is good so it's a fifty percent let's call yeah absolutely I mean it's it's more tinny it doesn't have the sound dampening the plastics they use are not as good on the interior what they want to point out as well is actually if you're interested in car tech the West got the one point two in the one point six this gets the one and the one or the one point three in the one point five which is a really ancient technology for an engine so it's much cheaper to make yeah yeah for sure yeah that's pretty interesting now why do you think the West hasn't adopted Chinese cars yet there's a little adage a lot of people are scared that the Japanese were going to take over Oh immature Japanese people started releasing cars in the West and they're like other quality but a lot but very quickly they became the favorite of the American household you see Toyota's his most popular brand in America now Honda's huge I want to talk about BYD for a minute okay all these taxes yeah do you guys into what I'm talking about beef BYD actually is and he is from Shenzhen and they're incredibly popular because of these electric taxis these and the current members I call the a6 or the something six right and actually Warren Buffett that billionaire guy he invested in BYD and so they had massive stocks and everybody loved BYD and then it was a street race in shinden yeah and someone crashed like a I think a missing GT it was a GTR into one of these and it burst into flames and burnt the passengers and drive it to death and suddenly the stocks just drop drastically after that and it hasn't really recovered since and the funny little thing I want to talk about yeah did you see that there anyway Joe yeah these are very taxes do you see these and certain done very much anymore actually do not as much not as much now they do because they got rid of the ones that were kind of recalled and they here I read that on the news oh that makes sense that makes total sense yeah you know you mention it I see less of them around there used to be another place here now yeah okay I want to say the reason that you know China's been making cars for over 20 years now why haven't we seen them in the West is because unlike Japanese cars they have not once passed a crash test yeah not once yeah it's too dangerous yep and we can't count the things like Volvo Rover that have been taken over by is for yeah Chinese firms own have been buying sort of um flagging automobile companies overseas Buick gear and Rover and Volvo and eleven oh yeah yeah there's all brandish and so we can't count those because those cars are actually up to spec us they basically just taking taking over the factories and the turnkey technology and you know pumping about the same as they were but actual homegrown Chinese go nope it's not much going on there and we should actually touch on the copy cars the fake cars absolutely let's just knock up a couple we can put some pictures here for people to see sure we got the UM of course the Range Rover Evoque yeah is the latest one what else we have there is actually a ripoff of B Mercedes SLK mm-hmm and we have a copy of a smart car I've been seeing absolutely everywhere these days yeah and then there was the copy of the Mini as well yes that's right do you remember any more yeah BMW x5 is very famous that's the CEO yeah well it's just tons if you drive around you will just see cars and you think that they're you know like what's that one the southeast yeah it looks like a Mitsubishi Lancer yeah but it's just an absolute piece of rubbish yeah it's really - yeah so there's a whole pile let's get on here okay yeah so they copy calls a lot but don't be fooled they're absolutely terrible quality's terrible my prediction is that you won't see Chinese cars in the West for very very very long time until they get there they're act together because it's your safety ax and they don't really have I mean they try their best to push it domestically but there's no real desire for Chinese people to buy Chinese community I have to do all kinds of tax breaks and incentives to stimulate the domestic Carver economy but people would just rather buy foreign stuff here correct okay so I think we're pretty much done here today see milk is anything you'd like to say to our subscribers before we sign off well I wish you the best and
