[Music] [Applause] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] all right guys how you doing it's your beer i hope you're all good so it's that time again where i get to check out a brand new plugin from neural dsp if for some reason you've been living under a rock and you don't know who neural dsp are i'll link them in the description box below but essentially they're a fairly young company that have made huge waves in the guitar industry over the last few years they do these plugins called archetypes as well as other plugins for different amp suites but the archetypes are essentially signature plugins based around signature tones from an artist out there in the world of guitar we've had archetype pliny we've had archetype nollie we've had archetype abassi we've also had archetype corey wong all of which i find really awesome and versatile in their own way but today we're probably looking at one of the most unique slash versatile archetypes that neurodsp have been involved in making and that is archetype tim henson if you're unaware of who tim henson is he's the guitar player and songwriter for the band politia he's basically become a household name in the in the world of modern guitar because of his unique approach to guitar playing and music in general what he's known for in my opinion i would say is this kind of beautiful fusion between so trap and hip hop r b music and guitar playing just let you guys know this is a sponsored video neurodsp have paid me to check out this plugin my job is to show you what it sounds like basically demonstrate all the different features and tell you about them and i'll leave all my opinions to the end of the video but i just needed to let you guys know okay welcome to archetype tim henson so first things first it's exactly the same layout as all the other archetype plugins in terms of navigation we're starting out here on the kind of highest gain amplifier saying that it's not a high gain amp it's it's kind of a lead amp but it's not like ridiculous gain if we move across to the middle absolutely beautiful uh sort of artist interpretations here of the amplifiers that i guess tim would have if they were real in any case this is a two channel lamp this is your clean to clean break up amplifier so you've got uh essentially a jangly clean and then one that's the edge of break up that's that and then what we've got here is another stunning looking amplifier this is a acoustic amplifier or for use with a piezo loaded guitar these are the stumps in front of the amplifiers really beautiful bling gold looking bad boys so we've got a boost compressor and an overdrive move to our speaker section matching cabs which look beautiful and these irs are all made by nollie uh just to bear that in mind i'm gonna move over to your nine band as you'd expect to see from the new dsp plugins a very useful part of their plugins is being able to control these nine bands and then we finally we've got our reverb delay chorus effects section as it were so you've got a chorus that's sort of built around tim's sort of signature sound chorus that uses a lot on his guitars then we've got a delay high and a low pass you've got control over your divisions and tempos mix with feedback but along the top here we can sync to our project we can change between a wide and normal and a ping pong repeats but then we've got this really nice type knob which moves between modern digital delay sorry vintage digital and diffusion diffusion is a very cool new take on a delay algorithm which is essentially where it takes away the initial attack so you don't get quite so many conflicting attack and transient notes within your delay repeats and then finally a reverb section where you've got you're drawing your weight you line your uh you're high on your low pass uh decay and then you've got a shimmer effect as well this is the multivoicer so if you're a fan of tim and polyphia you'll probably know that tim likes to use a multi-voice or a vocoder vocal harmonizer whatever you want to call it with a guitar sound it can look a little bit complicated at first but it's not the pink line is you so that's your dry signal then you've got one two three four voices as you can see and then here we've got like channel strips for each voice up the top here you've got controls for unison width and then we've got essentially how you can tell the multi-voice of what to do when you're playing guitar into it so you can choose the root you can choose the mode between major minor and chromatic and then a voicing library which is really handy for people like me that aren't theory trained so i don't know what i'm doing but i would look through all these and kind of be able to guess the sounds that i'm gonna get from them so that's level and pan controls as you can see level pan but if we move to detune and delay it affects those voices again in a different way as you'd expect so detune being uh how much it wavers off pitch this way and delay being how long it takes for those other voices to be sounded when you play a no but the icing on the proverbial tonal cake is midi mode basically what this allows us to do is it reads midi information coming in from elsewhere so if i'm using piano roll i can pre-determine the chord voicings and it will just play through and i can just play lead and it'll do it for me which is really useful or if you've got midi controlled tools like um keyboards or any anything like pads or launch pads or anything you can actually just go ahead and change those voicings in real time and that's very very cool okay so that's the overview of the plugin let's crack on some tones i've started out with jp15 because we're going to go ahead and try out the acoustic amplifier first or the piezo amplifier there is one thing i did forget to mention is that the blend control on the first amplifier is used so if you're using electric guitar pickups if you turn the blend up it sort of simulates more of that piezo sound but if you use an acoustic or piezo-loaded guitar you don't necessarily need to worry about that control in any case let's start with the acoustic amplifier so i've just got the piezo going in uh and let's have a listen see how it [Music] sounds [Music] so it sounds really spanky it's very very very crystal like and that's great when you're using something like a piezo loaded guitar so i'm going to do is throw on some ambience because it's just going to sound way better when i do that let's get some reverb so this is the reverb you should take off shimmer for a sec this is what we've got on the reverb [Music] so that's cool throw the shimmer on let's quickly hear the delay this is [Music] modern [Music] sounds cool [Music] vintage digital [Music] [Music] and then there's diffusion as you can see on the screen grab i've taken all the amount down so this is what it's like without any [Music] see how it's like not very attacky it's not a lot of transient but if i turn that up see what happens it becomes more like a [Music] pad [Music] so that's cool and obviously you can affect that with the high and low pass but that's the three different types of uh delay let's check out the chorus just real quick [Music] so you can clearly hear it's a sort of predetermined rate and all the rest of it but it's designed around tim's preferred chorus sounds so now when we use all these effects on top of the piezo sound let's see what we get [Music] so [Music] let's take that shimmer off let's get a little bit more on there and then i'm going to put this in diffusion mode about there back off a bunch of high end let's do that let's have a listen now you know what i'm going to throw the compressor on as well [Music] i really like that just to give you a quick demonstration of what happens when we use just plugins so i'm going to go middle position something like this sounds way more electric but if i go over to this amplifier and then i boost the blend so you can achieve a similar kind of vibe without necessarily needing a piezo or acoustic um so that's really cool anyway let's move on to a different amplifier okay so now we're on to the clean amp this is channel one i'm not using any of the stomps in front yet let's just have a listen to the sound of the amp with some reverb and delay [Music] so it's very very clean as you can hear there's a tiny bit of break up but that's channel one if i jump over to channel how does it sound [Music] all right i've boosted the gain you can hear there's a little bit more breakup happening now [Music] [Applause] [Music] i like that channel so whilst we're on this channel let's see what happens with some of the stumps so boost [Music] [Music] me that was the boost here's the compressor [Music] right that was compressor this is [Music] overdrive [Music] uh [Music] so we're on to the third amplifying out this is probably the most high game but again it's not like high gain but i'm going to use my silo bridge humbucker it's quite high output so let's see what it sounds like [Music] [Applause] [Music] so you can clearly hear it's like it's a it's a game channel it's not crunch it's gainy um but what's cool is we can really fine tweak this so i don't have any of the stumps on yet we can go ahead and give more overdrive super thick um boost the tone [Music] [Applause] and that's you know we're already getting brighter we haven't even touched the nine band or the ir section but let's do that so let's just give it a bit more bit more eight bit more four touch more two maybe that was a bit bit too much on the four there [Music] [Applause] foreign so we're already getting into that kind of edgy high gain territory um again we can we can brighten this up even more with the ir section so we're currently running two ribbons here which was the default setting for tim i'm guessing but if i swap that over to a 57 you're hearing way more edge now [Music] sounding great let's throw on the compressor in fact let's just throw on all the pedals and some reverb and delay [Music] [Applause] [Music] ah [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] ah okay so now we've had all the amps and pedals and effects let's move on to the special part of this plug-in and that is the multi-voicer so let's see what happens this is the sound of the guitar straight in [Music] as you can see on the screen grab i've got it set to the root of d d minor because it's catastrophe into d standard that was a d minor natural scale so let's see what happens when i now play it together [Music] so i mean i've never ever used a multi-voicer before and i'm not sure how restricting it is if you move outside of the scale because we've set to d minor it's a lot of fun though and it immediately reminds me of politia that that sort of tone that he he likes to go for we could actually make it sound closer if we had a little bit of chorus and a little bit of a little bit of juice from the overdrive [Music] so that's me playing in d let me let's move it to c so we'll tune down the whole step so c is going to be in d position but you'll see what i mean [Music] sounds weird so let me change it to c major right [Music] that's really great just to give you another quick rudimentary demonstration let me do that again [Music] that's mega mega handy um and again i i've never used anything like this before so i'm really using it in a rudimentary way i just wanted to show you how it works so each each individual interval can be turned on and off so so we're just left with our dry [Music] this is our octave we've got our third or is that a fifth actually oh yeah it's gonna sound weird on certain notes because we're still in c major you get the idea um anyway let me turn all the voices back on so cool now if i go to detune and delay everything is currently set like this so [Applause] but if i change the delay to like this you get the idea and then again we can tune it differently so you hear outstanding you get the idea we're not gonna be able to do the midi mode because obviously i would need to set up a midi controlled session but we could maybe do that a different stage down the line another useful feature i like is the width control um being able to turn that up so this is it all the way down but turn it up [Music] okay then guys well there is a look at the brand new neural dsp archetype tim henson plug-in if you're a fan of tim henson i'll just say this you will absolutely love this plug-in if you're a fan of prolifia and you want to get those tones you'll absolutely love this plug-in it definitely caters to that modern not heavy music but the modern uh sort of r b uh bluesy like feelsy like that mix between the trap and the you know the all the stuff we were talking about earlier it does this stuff in buckets [Music] [Applause] [Music] i think having an acoustic piezo style amplifier is a really cool idea having that blend there to be able to turn your guitar into more of that tone as well is really nice middle lamp is probably my favorite it feels like it's the most versatile like when you use the pedals as well the ir section is as far as i'm concerned fantastic nollie does it and it sounds great i've never complained with any of the irs nollie provides i really like the approach to the delay having three different modes that you can then blend a percentage of that characteristic into the delay tone i think that's a really nice way of dialing in some effects for a plug-in like this and of course the multivoicer the multi-voicer for me is the thing that sets this plug-in apart from all the rest but also i feel like it's a producer tool in the same way i've talked about like the night sky from strymon and the the microcosm from hologram electronics like it's a producer tool like if you're a songwriter music creator sound designer having something like that it's really easy to plug in and just get a sound you don't even have to use it with a guitar but it can get that kind of that tone and you can have so much control over it as well um really impressive i mean new dsp have done a fantastic job of making it user friendly overall it's just another fantastic tonal string to the bow that arc that neural dsp are absolutely just smashing right now they're doing such a good job so can't fault them on at all but anyway thank you for watching this video let me know what you think in the comment section below about this plugin and what you thought of the tones that i got from it uh if you want to find out more about it i'll put it in the description box below but as always thank you to neurodsp for asking me to do this video thank you all for watching thanks to tim henson for making an awesome plugin and being an absolute bad man on the guitar like subscribe and share and i'll see you all very soon [Music] okay [Music] you
