Ancient Vampires From The Strain Explained

television   show The Strain created by Guillermo del Toro and  Chuck Hogan the show is based on the book Trilogy   of the same name also created by Guillermo  del Toro and Chuck Hogan I want to look at   the origins of the master his connection to the  Archangel of death Ozryel in what made him unique   among the seven ancients if you enjoy videos about  vampires and other supernatural creatures own brand of   Terror and mystery but the story of this train  is one of my favorites at the heart of the story   is the master one of the most unique vampires  ever created but who or what is the master to   understand the master we first need to explain the  seven ancients in the universe of the strain every   Strigoi can trace their lineage back to one of  these Seven original vampires these first vampires   can trace their lineage back to the Archangel of  death Israel in the biblical destruction of Sodom   and Amora this is based on the story of Sodom  and Gomorrah from the real book of Genesis also   the angel Israel is based on the angel of death  Azrael from Islam and Christianity this is how   the Ancients were created long ago Heaven declared  war on Earth the cities of Sodom and Amora steeped   in sin and vice were abstain upon the world their  sin reached such Heights that Three Angels were   sent to destroy the cities Ozryel the ark Angel of  Death along with his brothers Gabriel and Michael   they descended with a mission to destroy the two  cities before the cities burned Israel and the   other Angels stayed in a home nearby to study  the cities before the attack while staying with   the family Ozryel felt an unusual curiosity with  human blood it gave life to humanity and therefore   contained a small piece of God's divine power  Ozryel goes into the city of Sodom disguised as a   human the angel is beckoned by a woman working in  a brothel overcome by a dark curiosity he bit her   neck and drank her blood this act only ignited  an insatiable bloodlust within the Archangel   and the two cities lie in ashes but Ozryel still  caught up in his thirst attacked his own brother   Michael drinking his silvery Angelic blood  for this horrible act and Fall From Grace God   would punish the angel Israel was pinned to the  Earth by a blinding beam of Divine Light then the   other Angels cut his body into seven pieces and  Scattered them over the Earth each one of these   seven pieces would fester in the ground and some  of the Angel's Supernatural power would seep deep   into the dirt at these sites would be the birth  of the worms each ancient is made up of the white   and the worms the Ancients are more of a sentient  substance that inhabits a body able to move from   host to host if their body becomes damaged all  ancients have probably possessed multiple bodies   the sight that the master originated from is  known as the black site it is located on one   of the Thousand Islands in Lake Ontario bordering  the United States we are never told the specific   locations of where the other ancients were born  we are also not told exactly how old the other   ancients are but we are told the master is the  youngest among them the last to manifest into   a physical form as far as we know the master is  around 3 500 years old but could be older this   means it's very possible that the other ancients  could be upwards of five to ten thousand years old   the Ancients have existed for Millennia and  have witnessed the rise and fall of Empires   while they keep to the Shadows their influence  is vast and they have many loyal followers for   a long time the Ancients all worked together but  they were split into two groups the master and   three others resided in the old world AKA Europe  and Asia the three other ancients lived in the   new world these are the three seen in the TV show  living in the secret location under New York City the worms allow the Ancients to turn other people  and also control them all Strigoi are like a hive   mind so if one Strigoi sees you they all know  where you are when the master turns someone   he will have full control over them and know  everything they know but if another ancient turns   someone then the master would not have control  over them each ancient can only control Strigoi   infected with their strain the seven of them were  born from a piece of the Angel Israel because of   this the Ancients share a special connection  the Ancients will sometimes refer to Ozryel as   Sariel this is also what they call themselves  all six other ancients identify as Sariel as   if they are all still one entity the connection  between ancients can be temporarily blocked but   never broken here's a quote about Ozryel from the  book Ozryel has its many eyes and as many tongues   as there are men on Earth but you see that only  speaks of how he can multiply how he can spread   each individual represents a fragment of the once  Mighty Archangel their behaviors desires and even   their Natures are influenced by the specific part  of Ozryel that they came from the Masters by far   the most bloodthirsty and best representation of  Israel's Relentless ambition and loss of control   this is because the body part that the master was  born from was the throat the part responsible for   drinking the blood of humans and Angels alike  aside from his bloodthirsty nature there's other   Stark differences between the master and his  brothers to the other ancients immortality is   a precious gift a privilege to be bestowed upon  a Chosen Few they view it as a sacred Covenant   the highest honor throughout the series we see  very few vampires that have been turned by the   other ancients the master on the other hand  has a very different idea about immortality   rather than being selective he envisions a  world with the Vampire virus spreads like   wildfire turning Humanity into his pawns he also  wishes to kill the other ancients to rule alone   given these two very different approaches it's  no surprise that tensions between the master and   the other ancients Run High while the others  wish to maintain a balance and Rule from the   Shadows the Master's Ambitions threatened to tip  the scales endangering not just the human world   but the vampire species as well the Master's  grand plan is to infect as many people as he   needs in order to gain control he successfully  takes over New York using his army of Strigoi   at one point the master even orchestrates a  bomb to be detonated in New York which leads   disguise to being darkened for quite a long  time allowing the Strigoi to roam freely in   the day and take over the master has giant Farms  built to harvest blood from humans if the master   gets his way all humans will be put into these  camps and treated as nothing more than food when the master turns people he has the ability  to allow some people to retain more of their   personality usually Strigoi turned into a Mindless  creature a drone for the master however some   like Ichorst and Kelly Goodweather keep their  personality and have more Free Will and control   over their own actions the master only does this  to those that he knows are completely loyal people   can be turned into a Strigoi two different ways  the first is being bitten but they don't actually   bite you they sting you with this long appendage  that comes out of their mouth known as a stinger   their stinger will feed on blood and inject worms  into the victim at the same time the second way   to be turned is by simply coming into contact  with the strained worms sometimes a Strigoi is   wounded or dismembered causing worms to escape  if even one of these finds its way onto a victim   they will quickly get into the skin and then  replicate and begin to change the person's Anatomy the Ancients can transfer to a new host  they do this by regurgitating the Crimson   worm along with all the other worms into  the new body normal Strigoi are similar   to rodents because they have no gag  reflex this is what allows the humans   to poison Strigoi with blood thinners the  Ancients however can regurgitate the worms   to transfer bodies so they probably  can't be poisoned in the same way the appearance of the Ancients is an interesting  and mysterious topic like I said earlier the   Ancients are more of a sentient substance  made up of the white and the worms in the   TV show each ancient also has a special  Crimson worm that is said to carry the   Consciousness it seems that over a long period  of time a strange phenomenon occurs the longer   the Ancients stay in a particular body the more  they begin to look like one another a testament   to their special connection the three ancients  in New York have been inhabiting these bodies   for centuries possibly Millennia and as you  can see they look completely identical it's   like after a long enough time they begin to  resemble the archangel Israel the Archangel   was said to have completely smooth features and  was asexual this is very similar to the Ancients   smooth featureless creatures that lose their  reproductive organs in the book they even lose   their ears making them resemble Ozryel even more  it's unclear how long an ancient can can remain   in the same body the master at one point has to  switch bodies because he said it was dying but   this could have been from sustaining too much  damage not the body starting to die from being   too old I think it's possible that even if they  weren't damaged that because the Ancients live   so long that every once in a while they would need  a new host we never see any of the other ancients   switch bodies though I wonder how long it takes  from possessing a new body to looking like this foreign the master has a much different approach  than his brothers he doesn't confine himself to a   single form for extended periods of time his  habit of changing hosts much more often does   have a purpose by constantly shifting his  appearance he remains elusive unpredictable   and above all a challenge to identify and hunt  down you can also notice that every host that   the master chooses is a very deliberate decision  a body that serves a particular purpose in his   grand plan whether it's a form that allows him  to blend into society or one that grants him a   particular physical advantages each selection is  a strategic move we see the master inhabit three   bodies throughout the series one of his most  famous forms was when he inhabited the body of   Jusef Sardu a man Afflicted with giantism this  gave the master an obvious physical advantage   in imposing form much later the master takes over  Eldritch Palmer's body to use his influence and   gain his memories so when an ancient takes  over a host they gain all all their memories the Ancients are much stronger than the lower  Strigoi they turn the master was able to throw   this person over a dozen feet into the roof  with great force Strigoi can move faster than   humans and don't tires easily but certain Strigoi  such as the Ancients can move extremely fast able   to move across short distances almost instantly  the ancient vampires have some special abilities   that lower vampires do not possess the master  was able to perform Illusions he could appear   as Zack's mother to manipulate him he is only  seen performing these illusions on people that   he gave his blood to while he doesn't have  blood but he would give out the fluid that   runs in his veins known as the white as I said  earlier the Ancients are made up of the white   and the worms this fluid sustains them and has  Supernatural healing properties if ingested by   humans it can grant them extended life and  even slightly enhance their strength Abraham   Satrakian uses this substance in order to  extend his own life to continue hunting   to master he has to make sure to boil the white  and refine it though or else he would turn into   a Strigoi somehow the master is able to give  out the white directly from his body without   turning people probably because he has complete  control over the parasites inside him Abraham   found out how to use the white through some very  old writings that detailed how to use it without   being infected this means that somebody prior  to Abraham was experimenting with the white foreign s are capable of having children   kinda Strigoi actually lose their genitals and  resemble the Archangel Ozryel being asexual   however there is a way for them to reproduce in  the year 40 A.D under the reign of the infamous   Roman Emperor Caligula a shadowy figure moved  behind the scenes an advisor for the emperor   this figure was none other than the master going  under the Alias Thrax while serving as his chief   advisor Thrax manipulated the emperor guiding his  decisions it's not clear if the emperor knew that   the master was a vampire but he was provided  women to feed on so presumably he did this was   a great setup for the master until an unforeseen  turn of events as Thrax was going about his usual   feeding he mistakenly fed on a pregnant woman he  had specifically requested no pregnant women but   one made it in by accident as soon as he stung  the woman he knew something was wrong in the   Master's confusion the woman was able to make  a quick Escape before anyone could notice the   master ordered for her to be hunted down but they  couldn't find her and she eventually gave birth   to her son Quinlan it said he was born in a cave  near an Olive Grove in Sicily it's interesting   that the master specifically requested no pregnant  women suggesting that he's had this happen before   Quinlan is what is known as a born or a day  Walker he is a half a vampire and the master's   son the two have a special connection just like  the other ancients able to sense where each other   are Quinlan's biology is unique compared to all  other Strigoi he is not as strong as his father   but he is much stronger than all normal Strigoi  plus he retains his own free will and cannot be   controlled by the master this could be because  Quinlan has no blood worms he can also walk in the   sun which is why he is employed as The Bodyguard  and Hunter for the three ancients that inhabit   New York half Strigoi or dampir are very rare  and only a handful have ever existed at first   Quinlan wanted nothing to do with the Ancients  his father or the war but between them all he   wanted to do was settle down and live a normal  life and for a while he did that was until his   father showed up and murdered his wife and child  he decided to work with the Ancients at that   point because their views were aligned both of  their goals were to kill the master at all costs known as The Feelers they are children that  were born blind and after being turned into a   Strigoi they are granted superhuman speed far  beyond normal Strigoi and ESP extra sensory   perception it's a kind of special Vision that goes  beyond the physical world these special vampires   are created by taking the children who were born  blind and bearing them in a special dirt known as   the loam this is dirt from the master's coffin and  given its ability to Grant supernatural abilities   I think it's the dirt from the black sight the  original dirt that created the master and had a   severed piece of Israel seeped into it it would  explain why the master would keep some of this   soil and how it would be able to Grant extra  abilities whenever the master seeks someone or   something he will send the feelers they are also  extremely deadly given their speed and stealth the   master chooses Kelly Goodweather to be a kind of  mother to The Feelers and look after them it's not   clear if this is a common practice or if they  always have a kind of leader for some reason   after The Feelers are created Kelly kills one  of them immediately some people speculate it's   because the child may not have been fully  blind therefore the transformation wasn't   properly completed or the feeler wasn't  accepting Kelly as the leader foreign how do you kill the Ancients well they do have a  few weaknesses sunlight will burn them but will   not set them on fire the Ancients also seem to be  slightly more resistant to sunlight than ordinary   Strigoi silver will also harm vampires burning  their skin on contact in wounds caused by silver   do not heal the same their weaknesses come from  the story of Israel sunlight is often associated   with God and Divinity Ozryel was also pinned to  the Earth by a beam of light after his crimes   the weakness to Silver comes from the Silvery  Angelic blood that Ozryel tried to drink in   his frenzy the TV show also has scientific  explanations for why vampires are harmed by   these things sunlight and silver have germicidal  properties that can destroy the Strigoi virus and   prevent healing the Ancients are much different  than normal Strigoi though to kill the Ancients   You Must Destroy their body completely including  the special Crimson worm inside them this differs   slightly between the show and the books in the  TV show the master of was killed by luring him   underground and setting off a massive bomb  destroying his entire body in the Crimson   worm inside however in the book destroying the  ancient's body alone isn't enough they also had   to detonate a nuclear bomb on the black site the  Master's place of origin which was in the Thousand   Islands by the end of the story the Ancients were  all dead and after the master was finally killed   all seven parts of Israel's Consciousness were  reunited and welcomed into heaven as one being foreign the characters in the show figured out  how to kill the master in the location of the   black site from a book called The Occido Lumen  this book is a complete account of the first   rise of the strigoi it's described as a medieval  manuscript Bound in leather with pure silver cover   and spine this was to keep any Strigoi from  reading it the book contains a secret text   under the readable text that can only be seen in  direct sunlight again a defense against Strigoi   the Ancients refer to the acetal Lumen as The  Silver codex it's likely that the book also   contained the origin sites of the other ancients  the information in the acetal Lumen was first   found on stone tablets similar to the story in the  Bible when the characters in the show are studying   the book we see a seal of Hagenti I'm sorry if  I'm pronouncing that wrong in demonology Hagenti   is a president of Hell ruling over 33 Legions  of demons I guess if the Strigoi are descended   from Angels then demons are real too 2. although  I wonder why that would be in the Occido lumen that's my video about the master from The Strain  if you're interested in the strain I have another   video that covers vampire villains I've  said this before but I love the way Guillermo del   Toro writes the lore for his movies and how he  ties it in with religious themes eventually I   want to cover his movie
