Americans Try Weird Korean Snacks for the First Time

what even in the hell is that what was that [Music] welcome back drive today we've got another delicious food box from one of our favorite peoples ever her name's megan oh hello megan and she sent us a box all the way from just a few cities over but it's korean oh we really got this box and we're like west haven that's not too far for drive we know where that is i honestly felt bad that she probably paid so much in shipping so thank you so much for your generosity and shipping it to us i am so excited though to try some of these delicious treats should we listen to some k-pop while we enjoy this food oh yeah like some bts no bro black pink black pink in your area okay well anyway we've got a lot of delicious treats to eat so let's get to it real quick megan wrote down some korean phrases for you guys to learn uh she says the alphabet is called hangul and it was invented by king sejong the great oh no he wanted he wanted to promote literacy among the common people and the whole alphabet can be learned in only a few hours i'll challenge that i mean that's 26 i mean that's american i realized what i said when i said it how many letters in the alphabet are there in english there's 26 i know but in korean i don't know but she wrote it for you right here along with the the pronunciation and the translations i'm young please forgive us we're trying our hardest we don't have anyone here telling us how to say these we just have oh man if you've ever watched arrested development you know what that means it means and fighting that sounds made up that means good luck honey butter chips no no it's a honey butter chip there's only one chip there's only one chip in this entire bag they were introduced in uh 2014 and became really popular on social media it caused the honey butter craze making these chips unavailable in stores and sold online for three times the original price who actually pays though that's the thing i don't get i'm afraid if i open this explosion look at how full this is this is like if i crack that seal it's gonna explode whoa oh okay it looks like your regular potato chip now i want to read i don't want to learn korean honey butter chip cheers there's a taste of honey there's a taste of butter there's taste of chip wow that's good i like that the butter makes the chip like dissolve what is that it's uh butter i mean i know what like i know what it is but like what does it taste like honey butter i know cornbread blue tin cookies shortbread mm-hmm a little bit man that is a unique flavor pretty good though to be honest i'm not the biggest fan because when i want a chip i want that salty and this is the exact opposite of that this is honey sweet it's almost like it's wanting to be a honey biscuit with it's a biscuit with honey on it no i get you that's what i hate my taste buds kind of angry that's why i hate kettle corn there you have it i like them though i gotta say not the biggest fan but it's definitely a flavor that i have never experienced which i will give you points for nick she said it's a really popular flavor in south korea they put it on fried chicken dried squid and even beer is honey butter flavored there honey butter beer mmm i could do that butter does korea next you've got the pushu pushu it's one of the most popular kid snacks you crush the noodles and sprinkle the flavoring on and shake it up so i used to eat ramen noodles as a kid yeah gotta take out the spices oh crush is easy i remember that was always the biggest problem with crushing top ramen beat it dude it hurt your hands sometimes that crush is real easy sprinkle in spices do it now gangnam style to shake it shake and enjoy no you got a gangnam style salad that takes me back what was that like 2015. oh i hope so is just living it up and bro you better be in his little blue tuxedo all right you first pushupuso this one is bulgogi flavored it's a traditional korean beef dish did you say beef fish beef dish i was like how can [ __ ] fish be beef you can tell they definitely made this with this purpose because the noodles are softer the noodles are softer the seasoning's not near as strong i think it's just because i'm a i'm a chicken ramen noodle kind of guy i prefer the chicken seasoning i gotta say this is delicious this is very i like the noodles i think i'm just not a big fan of the seasoning this is incredible good move oh my gosh i am eating all this after this episode all right next you've got honey twists these are our honey flavored snacks she says these are her favorite apple and honey that would that taste like a honey crisp don't smell it i don't intend to okay it's not it's a weird smell but oh that fantastic that looks fun pink that's a tasty little sweet treat wow that is wonderful how do you say i love it in korean in korean that's you know what these taste like delicious obviously we're really big fans but if you were to take a taco bell twisty that's what i was thinking and make it more crunchy crispy that's what this would taste like these are so good yeah these are very good i even like the texture like when you brush it's got like a it's got like a crunch i think thus far this is my favorite out of this box good choice megan it's got a crunch like it's not a crunch it's a crunch wow next you've got a sick sickie says rice punch on the can yeah the other side says rice punch it's a traditional korean drink made from sweet rice and malt barley you can always find it at street markets and korean bath houses korean bath house go ahead and try to pronounce it i mean i think we need to try eighth house okay korean bath house she has beautiful handwriting that is the exact color i should have expected if it is a cute little can it is a cute little thing's 117 calories is that a lot for a tiny can i don't know all the drinks i drink have zero calories in them so yes oh there's actual rice in it oh no oh it looks like maggots oh no oh it looks like maggots dude it's gonna be a texture thing and it's gonna get me i can already tell but uh hey bottoms up smells like wet hay bales it's not bad this is just chewy yeah it's just chewy you know the flavoring reminds me a lot of horchata you know what i got the vision i have in my head is they just took a bunch of like weeds from out back and they threw it on top of like a mesh strainer and just waited for rainfall to wash through the weeds and collect in a little jar i mean they're not a third world country you don't have to be to use some of these techniques i'm just saying that's what it tastes like okay i mean i think it has a decent taste it's not as good as horchata but it's right up there with it the only thing throwing me off really is just chunks the chunks of fries nobody likes chunks next you've got the yogurt jellies yogurt jellies oh why is the guy making that face on the front i'm so excited these look just like my favorite sour candies and i am so excited oh those smell delightful oh they have the same consistency too those are good those are real good oh my gosh yeah sour edition right here not sour at all but no but it's got like that same it's literally the same consistency but it's like a orange cream oh that's so good it's like an orange creamsicle edition that is fantastic i like that one wow okay sticking on the yogurt flavored things you've got milkies milk and yogurt flavored green all right okay same brand same brand that means we're in for a treat cheers oh yeah contains zero percent juice so um of course i'm gonna like it not bad that is surprisingly good it's good but i feel like it lacks the flavor i was expecting especially after those yogurted candies what does it taste like to you tastes like flat sprout day old sprite with a little creamer i i can kind of see that yeah a little bit i mean it just says that the creamy consistency that you're getting yeah i can see where you get that from the creamer but yeah it kind of tastes like sprite mixed with flat spray but it's good it's good it's really good i like it not bad next you've got the choco pies oh is it choco or choco i don't know it's me and my wife dude these look like alpha horse from argentina that's actually what they're called alpha horse no i was not speaking of the leader of the brothel there's an actual candy treat in argentina that's what we need in argentina box there you have it choco pie she says it's really popular with foreigners who come to visit korea and that they're similar to an american mood pie so good it's been an extremely long time since they have had a moon pie i always feel like my mind sets them up to be so much better than they are psychs them up and then you take a bite and you're like but it's not like what my mind envisioned i almost feel like it should have almost a more s'more flavor like a stronger more chocolate more marshmallow i don't know i'm just not a fan of moon pies in general man that's such a disappointment here we go i already don't like the smell you've got seaweed soup okay it's basically seaweed and rice and i love these little inventions look at this little and you fold it back what bam what and you got yourself a spoon and whatever you like that oh how you like that dude megan says it's given to mothers in the hospital after they've given birth and you also eat it on your birthday to honor you why does the rice have to look funny but how does it look funny it looks like maggots it does kind of look like it's got ridges oh i do not like the smell seaweed always sounds like it's going to taste terrible always but it's not bad on sushi i've never had bad seaweed that's have you ever had seaweed like chips yes and they're fantastic they're weird these look so early i already eat it put it in there now there's a nice little salty aftertaste that's okay but that consistency is straight up saliva yeah that is not my favorite oh okay come on come on i'm trying really hard to like this and i just can't you'd have to eat this every year to honor your mother i would not honor my mother well mom do that those flowers and card better suffice oh my gosh that is so bad i said it tastes like somebody already ate it and then spit it back in the bowl spat it upon us all right next you've got banana flavored milk drink oh okay banana and milk there's no space in there to shake that's like nothing's happening i feel that is full to the brim banana flavored milk this better tastes like a banana sundae tastes like a liquid banana rot yeah that's exactly what i was gonna say i was waiting for you to try it and then i was gonna be like that tastes like a banana that would rise so does that's good that tastes fantastic all right you've got some concho choco biscuit i feel like i've seen these before peace out mine's like a three a three side of a dice i think you know maybe we got this all wrong this is how it would be little kid mm-hmm yeah that's my lunch you know what these taste like eel fudge cookies a little bit yeah butter little tiny poppable containers my mom would pack me with this and the little seaweed stuff i tried the seaweed with a weird kid tastes great with a banana milk cheeser this is it's got the similar flavor to an eel fudge cookie but better all right next you've got the korean style honey cookies they say sweet tea food sweet tea food i like that they like honey so much they look like little tiny fruit cakes well butt cakes they're so cute whoa that is not what i was expecting at all i'm so confused is this made out of the actual honeycomb is it that's what it seems like oh it's all in green i can't read it has a tinny taste to it that has a very crazy consistency how would you describe that it tastes like you're eating wax almost exactly no yeah it's like i'm eating the very honeycomb like yeah if you were to chop it up grind it blend it up uh-huh and stick it in a mold yeah honey and all that's what it tastes like i feel like we're not utilizing these properly i feel like you should put these in your tea to like then sweeten your tea i don't know sweet tea food that makes sense to me i don't think you would actually individually eat these lastly you have rice cake soup in korea when you are born you're considered one year old cheating on the korean new year everyone gets one year older and you eat rice cake soup as part of the celebration once you finish eating you are one year older and will have good luck for the new year what in the hell is rice ain't that big it was the chives that is like a lot of i don't know what that is is it just a bunch of rice ground into a lot and then smashed together and made it to a cake cut into pieces and then put in the soup okay i mean maybe it's not as bad as we think so let what was it again you have this at your birthday when you're born you're considered one year old and on the korean new year everyone gets one year older and you eat rice cake soup as part of the celebration so everyone's sharing the same birthday wait hold on something is not adding up so if you were born the day before the korean new year you would have your birthday you would already be one and then the next day you would be two theoretically three days old and you're two years old yeah i feel like i don't understand it all right someone explained it to us down in the comments but i'm just gonna give this a go i feel like this is going to be like eating a rock because these things are it looks like it was made on a 3d printer they are chunky what even in the hell is that i don't like it that sure are we sure that's not like plastic i mean okay i didn't spit it out because of the flavor the flavoring's okay but man that texture is odd what was that it tastes like a soft plastic it tastes like i just eat just the soup just the soup it's the liquid soup just the liquid the soup isn't bad like i said the flavoring's fine it's the texture of whatever the hell is this it's not soft at all it's not and when it breaks it's almost like a wood look at this it doesn't really break it just kind of bends and morphs it's like a soft wood chip i hate it and then all of a sudden it pops that is weird if you had to imagine a really wet wood chip that's what i would yes i don't like that no don't understand your rice over there in korea it's got a lot of weird textures bigger than ours we got long grain we got regular brown and they apparently have giants all right well there you have it guys big box of korean food it was 95 of it was delicious there's a lot of good stuff in there especially that banana milk yeah that banana milk's really good those yogurt candies i'm gonna fight you before yes i'm gonna fight you for it to the death okay so if only one of us shows up next week you know
