hello there my name is richard mcmahon from the psychometric testing website passmyjobtest.com and in this tutorial i will teach you how to prepare for an amazon work style assessment so if you are applying for any job whatsoever with this brilliant organization there is a strong possibility you will have to undertake a work style assessment and to help you succeed this is what i will cover in this tutorial so i will give you a number of example amazon work style test questions to help you prepare i will also give you a practice mock assessment that you can undertake live on the screen under timed conditions and i will also give you some really important tips on how to quickly develop your work style skills and finally i will give you access to further videos right here on youtube style assessment well the amazon work style assessment is based on amazon's brilliant work culture and in particular their leadership principles now amazon has a set of leadership principles and in my opinion these are the reason why the organization has been so successful and we will quickly touch on these as we progress through the tutorial because i believe they are crucial to your success at the work style assessment now you will be presented with a statement and you must then decide which answer option is representative of your style of work now the test will take between 10 and 20 minutes to complete so it's not too long a test now it is important to be honest and truthful when you answer the questions however there is nothing wrong with you practicing questions and more importantly learning the amazon leadership principles because if you learn them and understand them then you are able to quickly develop the skills needed to work at this brilliant organization so i just mentioned those leadership principles let's take a quick look at them so what are the amazon leadership principles and why are they so important well the amazon leadership principles are in my opinion the blueprint to amazon's success and in no particular order they are having passion for the customer or the client and amazon always puts the customer and the client first they always start with the customer they also insist that you earn trust and you should treat people within amazon and also outside of amazon with respect there is also the leadership principle of hiring and developing the best people leaders in amazon always move forward and they improve with every person they hire you should also be able to whilst working at amazon think outside the box remember to have huge ambitions and go out of your way for the customer another one is taking action because without working quickly a business cannot be successful so when you work at amazon you need to get things done also try to make the right decisions because leaders people who work at amazon have strong judgment there is also achieving the highest standards so in all of your work you should be able to work to the highest standards achievable you should also have insight and this is about looking into things deeply and analyzing data and information because then that enables you to make the right decisions and it also enables you to continually improve and develop you should also take ownership that's another amazon leadership principle take ownership of situations if you make a mistake put your hand up and accept responsibility you should also continually learn and develop be curious about things and always ask questions you should always look whilst working at amazon to save money try and achieve more with less there are no prizes for growing the size of your team there's also couple more express your opinions so there's nothing wrong whilst working at amazon to challenging people's decisions do it in a respectful manner in a professional manner but then commit and move on and finally you should always be on the lookout for new ideas work as part of a team that innovates and invents new ideas so let's quickly look at this one achieving the highest standards and let's look at a sample question that i've created for you an amazon work style assessment question question one i prefer to spend time making sure the work i carry out is to the highest standards achievable i strongly agree b agree c neither agree nor disagree d disagree or e strongly disagree well of course we would too strongly agree why would we do that because we know about the amazon leadership principles of insisting on the highest standards let's have a look at another one i'll get you to try some very soon question two you are about to start work on an important team-based project how do you approach it a get together with my work colleagues and brainstorm different ideas before collectively agreeing on the best course of action to take by using a definitive action plan or b come up with some ideas myself and then present them to the team before starting work using a definitive plan of action or c use the same strategy we used for the last team project it went really well so why change things for this project or d get started on the project straight away and we can adapt and change our direction if needed as we go time is of the essence and we need to get going well i would choose a so the question is you are about to start work on an important team-based project how do you approach it i choose a get together with my work colleagues and brainstorm ideas before collectively agreeing on the best course of action to take by using an action plan because of the leadership principles having insight so it says that you should look into things deeply and analyze data and information well you can't do that if you get started on the project straight away there is also about learning and being curious and asking questions well unless you get together and brainstorm ideas you can't do that and then the next one looking for new ideas have a team that innovates and invents well again you can only do that if you brainstorm different ideas so you can see here what i am doing once i understand these leadership principles the amazon leadership principles you can then answer these questions far easier and you will develop the work style skills needed to perform to a very high standard at amazon so i will tell you where to access these leadership principles a little bit later on throughout the presentation but again i will teach you how to build the skills needed to work at amazon as we progress question three you join a new team and after producing a new idea someone says to you that's not how we do things here what would you do a accept what they say you on you and you have a lot to learn b keep coming up with new ideas and suggesting different ways that can help the organization grow and improve c you would inform your manager that you are not happy with what they said to you d keep quiet in the future because you don't want to rock the boat or e leave the company and find somewhere else to work well i would choose b keep coming up with new ideas and suggestions and different ways that can help the organization grow and improve and i would choose that because of one of the leadership principles it says you know you shouldn't express your opinions challenge decisions and then commit the other one looking for new ideas lead teams that innovate and invent so when you see the questions you should be able to answer them correctly if you practice lots of test questions so now it's your turn to try a few amazon work style test questions these are the ones i have created to help develop your work style skills that are based on the leadership principles so please put your answers to questions four five and six in the comments section below the video and i will come on here each day and personally mark them for you and give you feedback so question four when a customer is being rude or confrontational towards me i will a tell them to stop i am not paid to be spoken to like that i will be ignore what they say and just focus on my job c i will inform my manager about the way in which the customer has spoken to me d i will look for somewhere else to work or e i will remain calm and patient and communicate with the customer in a polite and friendly manner and try to get to the bottom of the problem so i can resolve any issues for them now i have placed a timer on the right hand side you've got just 10 seconds to answer this question put your answer option in the comments section below the video here we go okay brilliant well done try another one question five if i think i am going to be late finishing an important project i will a inform my manager of the fact i'm going to be late so they can plan accordingly b block everything out and work at full speed until it is completed even if it means staying behind late after work c i will ask my work colleagues if any of them can help me d carry on working at the same speed as before i can only work as fast as is physically possible and it is inevitable that things will get pushed back due to the amount of work people are expected to do nowadays which answer option would you choose a b c or d put your answer in the comments section below the video for marking here's a timer okay and try one more a fault has been found with a product that has been developed by another department within the business what would you do a this is another department's issue to deal with it's not my responsibility b inform my manager or supervisor so they can decide on the best course of action to take c raise the problem with the other department so they can take the action needed or d establish what the exact issue is before informing the other department of the problem i will then offer my assistance in rectifying the fault so which answer would you choose to question six a b c or d please put it in the comments section below the video here's a timer okay let's now move on let's take a look at another example amazon work style test question question seven when speaking to a customer on the telephone i will a keep the conversation focused entirely on the issue at hand b i will make pleasant small talk for a few seconds before getting down to business c i will take my time to build up a good relationship with a customer before talking about their issue or problem it's important to take your time to build strong relationships with customers or d i don't enjoy speaking on the phone so i will get through the call as quickly as possible now the answer option i would choose is b i will make pleasant small talk for a few seconds before getting down to business now some people might choose c but the problem with that is that you are not working at speed and if you spend your time building up good relationships with all customers before talking about their issue or problem you will not get through the issues or the problems that you need to so in my opinion b is the best answer let's take a look at another one question eight i'm going to get you to try some more in a second which statement describes you the best a i like to learn new skills on a regular basis b i prefer to focus on what i already know ensuring i do it to a high standard now i would choose answer option a and the reason being because one of the leadership principles is learn and be curious you have to improve develop and ask questions and if you don't like doing that then surely you cannot match one of the leadership principles and therefore demonstrate the work style skills needed so you can see how important it is to read and understand the amazon leadership principles it will only take you five minutes to learn and understand them okay so let's now move on to the next question and i will get you to try some again in a second question nine regarding continuous improvement and development at work i think this is a a complete waste of time and it detracts from me getting on with what's really important for my employer b i think this is an important part of one's work but it should only be done on a periodic basis because it can detract from you completing your work or c i think this is an essential part of one's work if you don't take the time to continually learn improve and develop you cannot provide the best service possible for your clients and your customers or d i think this is important to do when there is clearly a development need or when your manager requires you to improve in a specific area and i would choose c i believe continuous improvement and development at work are essential and if you don't take the time to continually learn improve and develop you can't provide the best service possible and i say that again because of one of the leadership principles again learn and be curious you have to improve develop and ask questions so you see if you understand these leadership principles the work style assessment is easier to understand and also pass question 10 which statement describes you best a i prefer to concentrate on small projects as opposed to focusing on the bigger picture or b which statement describes you best long-term goals are more important to me than short-term results i would be choosing b long term goals are more important and that's because thinking outside the box you should have huge ambitions and go out of your way for the customer so again you can see by learning these it will only take you five minutes it will make a big difference to how you approach the test so now i would like you to undertake an amazon work style mock assessment live on the screen there are 13 questions in the following assessment and you have 10 seconds to answer each one again please put your answers your honest answers in the comments section below the video for marking here we go mock test question one when i want to get my point across in a meeting i will a interrupt whoever is speaking to say how i feel it is important to speak out when you think it's necessary b i will listen to other people's opinions first and then put my point of view across explaining clearly the thought process behind my thinking or c i will not say anything nobody ever listens to me anyway so what's the point or d i will wait until the end of the meeting and then say how i feel i'm not overly confident so i would rather wait until others had had their turn to say something here's your timer okay mock question two please put your answer in the comment section below a work colleague is not doing their job as they should do what would you do hey inform my manager or supervisor about the issue they can then take the necessary action b i would speak to my work colleague to encourage them to work to a high standard if they don't do their job properly it lets the rest of the team down if they refuse to listen at least i have tried c i would say nothing the most important thing for me to do is to concentrate on my own work if i do a good job then the team is making progress or d speak to my work colleague to encourage them to work to a high standard if they don't do their job properly it lets the rest of the team down and if they refuse to listen i will inform my manager or my supervisor here's your timer a b c or d well done question number three which statement describes you best a i prefer to work at a fast pace whilst completing tasks or b i prefer to work slowly and methodically ensuring i pay attention to the minute details here's your timer question number four whenever i come up with a good idea at work i will a share it with others in the team my idea might make a big difference to the company b i will keep it to myself it's my idea and i am under no obligation to share it with the company or with my work colleagues c i will work on it outside of work and see if i can turn the idea into a business venture for myself or d i will ask a work colleague if he or she thinks it's a good idea if they do i will then consider sharing it with my work colleagues and my manager which one is suitable to you a b c or d here's your timer okay question number five you're making really good progress by the way stick with it taking risks at work is a important if a business is to grow and succeed b taking risks at work is foolhardy there's no need to take risks because the consequences can be extremely damaging c taking risks at work is not necessary i don't need to take risks because i'm good at what i do without the need to take any risks or d taking risks at work is a good thing providing the risks are calculated and the chances of success outweigh the potential downsides which one is applicable to you here's your timer next one question six which statement describes you best a i believe the needs of the team are more important than the organizations if a team is not successful the organization will not thrive or b i believe the organization's needs are above everything else a or b here's a timer question seven we're making really good progress if ever i make a mistake at work i will a i don't make mistakes at work b i will inform my manager straight away so he or she can decide what action is needed c i will immediately put my hand up apologize rectify the issue and see what can be done to prevent it from happening again or d i will rectify the mistake immediately there is no need to inform anyone else because i will have taken action to sort it out here's your timer moving on question eight you are tasked with being part of a team who has a responsibility of creating new product ideas for customers what would you do a put my ideas forward as to what i think our customers need b i would ask my work colleagues what they think our customers need c spend time brainstorming different ideas to see what we collectively think our customers need or d speak to our customers first to ask them what they need which one do you choose a b c or d put your answer in the comment section below here's your timer question number nine which of the following statements describes you best a i tend to think about the trivial things because this enables me to achieve perfection or b i tend to think about the bigger picture and not focus on the minor things that's a difficult one alb here's a timer question number 10 a decision has been made as part of your team which you disagree with you have respectfully put forward your suggestions but they have been dismissed what would you do a commit to the team consensus and give it my all b try once more to get my suggestions accepted i am usually right and i feel it's important to persevere see i would reluctantly go ahead with the team consensus or d i would complain to my manager about a fact my suggestions have been dismissed a b c or d here is a timer question number eleven you are working on an important time sensitive project as part of a team and a team member goes off sick what would you do a consult my manager to ask them what they want us to do next b i would get together as a team and create a new plan of action that caters for the completion of the project on time without the team member c i would see if we can find someone else to help us from another department or d stop work until our work colleague is back at work because without them we cannot complete the project a b c or d here's a timer question 12 if i am experiencing conflict with a co-worker i will a try to avoid the conflict b warn my co-worker to stop giving me grief or i will inform my manager c i will focus on rectifying the conflict amicably and professionally conflict can be negative within a team so i would be keen to sort it out quickly d i would inform my manager to ask for advice on the best way to solve the conflict or e use the conflict to increase the competitiveness within the team a b c d or e in the comments section below please here's your timer thank you and the next one question
