Alone On A Dead Coral Island - Solo Camping An Uninhabited Island - Living From The Ocean - Part 2

well sun's coming up i guess there's no point in sitting in here because he's i'm not exactly getting away from mosquitoes how did you all get in i checked the little perimeter i thought it was good ugh they're all inside great yeah what an exciting uh night let's jump out and have a look at what it's like out there check the boat okay the rover's still here you've got to watch it when you do this kind of thing that can actually uh chafe really quickly you'd be surprised at how quickly the robe rope can fray oh man i got mosquitoes all over maybe it should have stayed in the tent at least all of those ones were full okay so the sun's still coming up look at this look how many mozzies are on my arm there you're gone you're gone oh you're gone wow look at them everywhere on the legs okay hopefully there's a bit of a wind coming this way so hopefully that'll scare him off a little bit looks smooth enough though this is the ocean side that whole ridge there isn't the mainland that's actually more islands and then you've got to get past there and then there's another maybe 30k run back to where i've got to come from that run there is probably at least 10 k's maybe and then there's another 30 k's past there that's why i'm a bit you know like just keeping an eye on my fuel but yeah i've got a couple of days free pass from the family so it'd be silly to waste it but i just don't know without going back and at least getting some fuel if i can really uh swing it much further out here when you get the further out you get the more of the fuel becomes an issue and i don't want to push it so i can't be zipping around [Applause] shake that sand off before we flip it ah so many mozzies man what are you doing right all this way what are you doing okay let's get this to the boat let's not forget your grill pick up your rubbish as well let's do this oh look at that big butterfly where'd that come from oh boy what a trip eh it's not over yet late it's not over yet see you later island thought something felt a bit different it's much better when you don't have wheels down ah it's more like it hey a little bit of light man that was a bit of a rough sleep actually not sleeping all that well but we're uh the boots out there we just at the uh boat ramp and we're all fueled up and ready to rock again oh it's a bit of a steep bank but we should be all right maybe just back there is actually better always a bit rocky just here drops off real fast which is good and bad okay is this the best spot to come up at least it's a bit more protected on this side from the wind but it is pretty steep if the tide comes up as high as this line here which it should because it's the bigger tides then we'll be looking good though because that means i can get it up on some of this flat ground here and then just probably just leave it you know what that tree looks close i'll get it down there and we'll pull it up and then we'll just tie it off up up there how nice is this little island looking look at that it looks a lot more uh hospitable than the last one but we'll go check it out and see if it's as good as it looks [Music] strong one more for good luck okay we've only come just there's the boat just there but this that tree from here to here it looks quite nice and this ground although it doesn't seem that soft if i flatten it out a little bit the parts are the coral pieces are a bit smaller plus it's got a bit of a stick covering so just here might not be such a bad spot but we'll continue to suss it out because there's plenty [Music] plenty more ground i'll walk around the other side of the island check that out as well but i've got a feeling it's going to be the wind and weather report says it's going to be pretty windy for the next two days and then it gets really windy so i've got to be out of here tomorrow morning anyway so we'll try and make the most of it but i think it'll be on this side of the island yeah see in between those your trees is too sticky and uneven and then we're pretty much at the end almost has this coral it's so cool [Music] just coral pieces and you kind of get to the end here let's have a look over around this corner looks like a nice little point to have a cast off though looks like a little mini jungle don't it but i think that's the end of the island and camping option so maybe we uh turn back around and have a look back down there yeah it's pretty um it's pretty windy on this side and uh it's no better for camping anyway really this you got a bit further down there but even then it's the wind's going to be coming straight in yeah i think maybe the other side's the way to go i don't know how good those 10 pegs will be here but it's not too windy so hopefully they'll be right yeah just just not far enough so actually do it looks like we're hitting hard to hard earth there or hard rock we go right in once we put all the uh pebbles on on this actual netting that should keep it down as well so it doesn't have to be perfect sort of you know i'm not falling down there just gotta find somewhere it goes in i think there's a big rock under here come on give me somewhere a little sort of have to do for now and we'll weigh it down with some other bits oh that looks quite nice doesn't it this is actually better than sand in a way because look it doesn't grip to you nice and flat here flatten it out a little bit more it's actually quite flat just with a little uh sweep over it's actually going to be very nice and there's lots of little pebbles underneath these bigger stuff so let me just move just where the sleeping mat is going just here it should actually be very nice it's just so much better than the other spot i cannot express to you it's amazing how just little things add up to something being fantastic or something being a real struggle so let's put these down this is great nice infinitely more comfy than the last spot and it's not raining there's no storm so we're looking good i could spend it quite a few days here without a worry okay get these shoes back on we've got the boat up there now and tied up so i got it a little bit closer just because uh i don't want to be stressing out like at night time wondering if it's going to still be there so it's always nice to have it nice and close where you can see the rope and the boat and we'll get these shoes on and what we might do is we'll go for a little walk around we'll take the rod and we'll have a flick it's always a nice way to sort of explore the island a little and have a little bit of a purpose you never know what you can catch ah stick in the air yes but uh put that closed even though there doesn't seem to be any bugs really but just closes up a little bit just to prevent the majority from coming in oh you know what i'm gonna have to do i'm gonna have to get a hat maybe even some sunscreen because i'm feeling a little red raw from the uh last yesterday in the boat trip back at first definitely need a hat got you guys okay might as well just leave that big lure on really have no idea what i'm going to do so leave it on you never know i did get a follow on this yesterday so i know it works a little bit i do like this lure but the problem is look also got a bit of saltwater in there they're rusting out quick yeah those hooks aren't that sharp this is the man so rusty in here since when is it this rusty it's just been bouncing around in here this is a great this but i don't know if it'll be strong enough to uh like that lead that line there is not strong at all but if they grab the top it'll be alright what pound would that be that couldn't be more than 30 i don't think i think i had this rigged up for flatties let's try it just for fun if we get a hit i think it'll be all right on the trout don't think uh it gets much bigger than that i don't know how it'll handle it if not we'll switch to this guy but i wish i'd uh put new hooks on a few of these things but you get that we'll make do otherwise at some point we might jump in the water and have a spear but we'll have to check out the other side because this side looks like it's pretty much sheer drop off oh somebody just came and grabbed it too far away don't know what that was almost grabbed it almost immediately brown colored i don't know if it was a trout or not maybe a smaller lure might be better getting a little little hits but maybe they're just not big enough to quite uh take the big boy but a smaller profile lure might be the trick or maybe we just stick out stick it out just a little bit because we might just get a really big one oh like that i don't know what that is but oh what is it tusky dizzy grabbed it what do we got oh yeah a little tusky geez he wanted that sorry mate oh look we got you on the fin in the end is as big as you mate it's a beautiful looking little fish get you back in mate that was cool we got one so it turns out the little fish will take the big lure got him on the treble in the end so he must have grabbed the back i will keep casting this for a little bit longer it is fun looks good in the water it sort of slithers along like a big eel or something so i can imagine it'd be pretty enticing just that treble at the back it's just enough to catch him i think even if they can't swallow it whole what are these little guys oh they're squared look oh wow whole pack of them one two three four five six six squared i do have a squid jig let's see if they're gaming up there look they are look they're trying to grab it oh should we go for squared we've had quite a lot of squid recently here they are just going up over the way i've caught a lot of squid recently so i'll let the i'll leave them be but i'll tell you what if i quickly change the squidger i can have a pretty good chance of a squid lunch we'll go for something else all right pretty crusted up but that's oh yeah look it's just peeling off okay i reckon with a little bit of scraping down you could easily catch something on that maybe we control that around the island once and we'll see if we can get something on it the old laser pro is that d90 is it oh say so some new hooks and that'll be put it in the baggie oh what are they chasing it in oh there's any number of things like finger mark if i had a smaller lure i get them but they're not they're only small ah it's pretty harsh on this side a bit windy but it looks like i don't know there's a big bomby that stretches out there you can see maybe when the tide gets a little lower hopefully you can and maybe we'll jump in the water and we'll risk the camera see if we can find something all right we made it all the way around the other side might as well have a cast off here see what we can find let's just cast along this little edge here let it sink a bit just give it a couple of twitches something came out to have a look at it then we actually got his scale as well look he actually went and touched it would sound pretty tusky i'd say for sure look it's got a blue ginger it's a tuscany of some sword maybe sorry mate okay trying to straighten that up a bit but that's what we're rolling with see if we can get something here yeah that'll that'll just got a lot bigger chance of getting something that's for sure work it along this edge oh we got something ah rock cud oh beautiful cod though look at that look at the colors on him that is a pretty amazing looking fish in it oh yeah all right bud we'll get you back in out of here well definitely getting the small fish tell you what he took that there's zero left of it look at that he wanted it lusty oh someone came back and had to go at it again but whatever it is i don't think it's big oh ah what was that we had to go oh yeah you can see all the teeth marks tried to grab it slice it up a bit but no take no hook up try again just along this little edge not a lot going on really though considering walked all the way around apart from that tuskegee in that little cod before it's not a lot going down i might have to jump in the water but first i've got to see if i can actually get around this corner and get back to camp otherwise i have to walk all the way back around the island which is not as in appealing but hopefully we can climb over sneak through here look at that little crack there surely there's got to be a fish in there let's just sink it down here you going crab we do get one in here i don't think i have much chance of getting it out of this big it turns out it's not going to be an issue but lots of things yeah okay so this wall looks pretty steep but i reckon i can sort of scale around the side of that and that should actually put me all the way almost all the way back well it's the day of small fish but still cool to catch some stuff all right a little stripy you gotta watch out mate any bigger and you'll start to be on the menu ah buddy all right oh okay bye nowhere near big enough though look at all the life in this rock pool all the crabbies see ya mate oh is it a mosquito that's the first one i've seen get away oh yeah see that might be a bit more of a challenge to get by we might not be able to make it around after all which is going to be disappointing damn find out looking forward to getting back to camp oh yeah too easy i'm having a water that's for sure where are all the fish there should be lots of fish look at this channel here that's gotta have some fish it's actually a lot further around than i thought though i thought we were actually kind of close turns out we've got quite a lot of distance to cover oh something had to go that's cool i'm trying to find another way around because it gets too steep but look at this this is this would be fresh water just rolling down it's got a worm there i won't taste it then but all that would be fresh water running down from all this cliff face i wonder if i'm going to be able to get around though all the way to the top and over hopefully well it'll be a good view regardless uh okay so i'm up here but i don't know if there's going to be a way down on the other side so i think we might be up here for the view ah bummer that is a real bummer i thought there might be a way leading down on this side unfortunately got up to the top of that one but there is no way pass so we've got to head all the way back around the beach it's probably only like a 10 meter swim as well but i don't know could i be bothered and then all my tackle get wet that's my rod oh and this isn't like a waterproof reel either so yeah let's just walk around let's do it and stop quinching oh man what a mission that was a big mission all for very little gain except we got to see the island which is nice boat is well and truly high and dry but at least it's safe so that's all right water water big time water look at the dropping that's pretty amazing big tides um yeah all right i've wasted enough time i guess it's time to get in the water it looks really milky here so i don't think i'll even bother i think i'll walk around the corner what do we need it's pretty steep actually look how far it's gone out big big tides all right i wonder if there'll even be any water around that bomb anymore well there's a little bit more water out of there than i thought it would be because this bomb is like now completely out and it's looking very murky but we'll make our way around here and try and have a look hopefully i can still see something i don't need much but i do need something for dinner so yeah we'll give it a go and we'll see what happens but um yeah we'll get our gear on i'm gonna get these shoes off who knows what we'll find in here [Music] so well as soon as you get on the outside of there it's milky as you can barely see a couple of feet in front of you this little pond here actually has a few tusk fish in that in it but it's not exactly they're pretty small like there is a couple of good like those gold line snapper what do they call them stripeys or um golden snapper one one of the ones i had on the last island trip so that might be on the cards now because i can't see myself i don't know i could jump in around the corner and just have a look but if i see a tuskegee or a little snapper that's big enough i'll take it because it's really really looking like it's going to be tough to go outside at all like it's so milky that you can't yeah it's very spooky and you can't even see that like two feet i reckon vids i don't know what to do tough it's a tough choice tough call look it's not about you know i don't have to get a big fish just has to be legal and then i'll have to be happy don't really have many options as soon as you get out of this little rock pool basically it's it's just not gonna happen look i'll try i'll go back up to where left my bag maybe i'll jump in on the other side and just see if it's any better and then and then i guess uh if i see something on the way i'll definitely take it but we'll have to see what happens [Music] [Music] so [Music] so [Music] unfortunately i'm out of time fellas look at that sunset they're still here you're gonna have to go fellas go find a turtle again well there's that was just it was very milky in the beginning and uh as i went along i actually saw that turtle and as the turtle swam off i picked up two of those little pilot fish that little golden trevally and they were really cute because they basically stayed with me the whole strip down and back and then uh as i got to the edge there it got really county i was like i better turn back anyway let's jump up quickly get a fire going and then um just enjoy the night and enjoy the sunset we got him so yeah oh he's yeah he is legal but he's only just i think he's shrunk a bit because he was 31 when i measured him earlier but i didn't show it on film now he's more like 30 okay very quick gut and scale and then we'll get that fire going i just want to do it fast so i don't run out of light good enough good enough all right we got a fire let's get a couple more bigger weapons of wood i think oh that fly is nice i'm going to get some more wood in a second so we're just going to do some strips cut them into a couple of bars and we'll just put them on the grill so we'll wait till those coals die down look at that sunset that's amazing keep him over this side a little bit because it's going to be super hot and then we can lay our veggies out as well all right now we wait a bit all right you guys are just about done move them to the back just keep them warm and fish just a little bit longer and then we'll break that one open okay let's make a big any veggie anything on the bbq is pretty good isn't it on the char they're really good um let's see if we can break a bit off here with one hand i'm using the phone now because it's really hard look at that it's really hard to bet the phone's the best man for the job here because it uh captures the low light better yeah try and get a big chunk out oh look at that bit super white flaky and almost sweet flesh tusky is definitely one of the more choice eating fishes i'm going to scrape it down hard to do with one hand so i'm going to enjoy this um i'm not sure whether there will be another uh island video depends on what the wind does tomorrow so we'll just have to reassess what happens in the morning whether there's a part three to this series or um it's just uh we'll start fresh with a new series or a new new a couple of new vids um so anyway i'll catch you on the next vid and uh going to enjoy this food cheers
