Allyson Felix's sub-50 second leg helps USA advance to 4x400 finals | NBC Sports

level and at the collegiate level that she knows just how to execute and she's in good position right now for Team USA I've got anything brief any big damage but she's definitely holding her own Lea's Crona has run a very promising opening lick for Switzerland their second behind Italy and here's the first exchange and the United States with some work to do that pass took a while for Allison fields to get that baton sake and now she has to sprint around this curve and get back up with the leaders yep jessica beard only fifty to five on her first leg she started out well but really faded down the homestretch expected her to be more than fifty point 51 for that first leg but Allyson Felix very familiar with second leg knows how to get out hard and get the rail and she's doing that normal service resumed for USA because they were in quite a bit of trouble in the first hundred but that's why you put Allyson Felix second leg she knows she's been there and done that on that second leg now in that 49 range again so great job for Allyson Felix who's giving Kendall Ellis very little work to do she's gonna wanna maintain this lead though they still have one leg to go but Alison Phil he's doing a great job for Team USA Deb she made Kendall Ellis's job very easy Great Britain in second and look at Italy challenging Germany for that third spot remember only the top three will qualify automatically Kendall Ellis can't back off but Courtney eccolo on the anchor is going to be able to back off a little bit an amazing third run by Italy engine karma Trevor said she collided with another athlete in light blue over there and brings Italy back into contention maybe for automatic qualification as Courtney o Colo is bringing the United States home only 51 two for Kendall Ellis but she wasn't challenged at ball and so she was able to kind of cruise a bit Courtney Accola who's rut anchor so many times for the University of Texas has run anchor for Team USA and rat 49 on her split when they want the mixed relay it's a great shape to be able to hold this lead for Team USA so Germany trying to hang on to that last automatic qualifying spot but they have lots of company the United States and Great Britain have separated Germany now has to look in that rearview mirror and guard for that third spot Courtney como is in the home stretch it's Team USA team Great Britain Nielsen is bringing in home Belgium with camere Laos and the time to the line 320 297 for Courtney eccolo and Team USA it's tight for that third spot between Belgium and Italy for automatic qualification so it's the US and Great Britain go through and we'll tell you in just a few moments who did get that third and final automatic qualifying spot so Team USA with a world leading time 322 96 but Allyson Felix and Courtney are cold are the two athletes to go sub 50 and I'll tell you what guys a lot of times in this preliminary rounds the coaches are watching to see who are the two best legs so sometimes you walk and say why don't they take their foot off the gas well they're trying to run themselves onto the final team and so the coaches are watching here and they're gonna be selecting from this group of for the obvious elections would be Courtney a : Allyson Felix great run for them we've said all year that every time Allyson has stepped off the truck in 2019 she's looked better this is her first sub 50 effort and they needed it there's Allyson Felix in the center [Music] and because she had a little bit of a deficit to make up Sonia after that first leg she really was aggressive around that first turn she had to be the first 50 is so important in her in the relay and so she got on she has the speed right and she has that memory of how fast she can go in the first part of this race and so she just used that and a lot of the athletes sometimes will just give away and they allowed her to just kind of take the break their Great Britain could've been a bit more aggressive if they wanted to to take the break but Allyson dominates here in her performance so here's the home stretch from the USA anchor a colo behind her was a real battle with Belgium and Italy Ukraine Ukraine for that last spot look at how hard Belgium at saline here to see that's called securing your spot in the final and guess what Ukraine got it that was a Theresa Cove Ariza Cova brought it home for Ukraine and has guaranteed a spot in the final just with that late lunch incredible they got it by 1/100 of a second Ukraine andrey zhuk over with that and collect that was spectacular so the United States Great Britain Ukraine automatically qualify from that second heat and the final two positions will be decided by time it may very well be the Netherlands and Belgium you
