ALL YOU NEED IS LAKE TAHOE?

we're tim and finn and this is tahoe a huge freshwater lake in the sierra nevada mountains straddling the mountainous border of california on the west and the deserts of nevada on the east it's known for its crystal clear water and just about every outdoor activity under the sun thanks for joining us this is the sixth episode in this california road trip series and if you click the bell next to i'm from michigan so okay we get to experience that all the time but out here in the desert i didn't realize that such a big lake [Music] arriving in late august with fires raging across the state we relief [Music] just rolled into dial bliss state park in tahoe and the most disappointing thing we've ever missed on camera was the state park ranger asking us if we've ever camped in a location with black bear and essentially asking us if we were bear aware i told her with such confidence that we're so bear aware she just stopped the safety spiel and she's like you guys get it good to hear you don't even need my spiel we are bear aware [Music] do [Music] you [Music] she was getting so stuck she's just that's what happens when you don't need your breakfast sweetie pepper you should have eaten that you thought it was not very good remember [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] all alone again tonight but you don't seem to forget about yourself [Music] wondering [Music] let me tell you about the dreams and the [Music] seasons coming into tahoe last night it was so so smoky as we expected and i hardly had the heart to turn on the camera because it's just so disappointing asked all of you on instagram yesterday if we should just go up to oregon and we're just kind of playing day by day we feel so lucky now the skies seem to be clearing up and the main reason i was so disappointed is it looks like tahoe is one of the most beautiful places we've ever been [Music] so [Music] when we told you all that we were heading to tahoe on this trip one of the things that we heard far and away is the most popular things to do is to actually leave tahoe drive up to truckee and do some rafting up here so that's what we're doing today [Music] careful doesn't stop with bear wear sound careful because you're not tougher than the song and you're as white as me the sun's the most dangerous thing in the entire universe it's okay to be so careful i can't believe i got so burnt at mammoth lakes lame are you also going to be floating careful i'm not careful with these i don't have my okay so sun careful not sunglass careful right how about drowning careful oh yeah and covered careful more careful oh you're going hat under helmet careful yeah sun protection because then i can flip it if i need more it's on backwards though it's okay here's the super duper for you thank you and then we have all these regular standard paddles for the rest of you guys blue and yellow lame come on if you're ready no super duper paddle for you thank you thank you yep oh that's my favorite part oh my gosh tim what are you thinking here this one this is battle tested yeah absolutely thank you sweet on the third one i don't know what that would be [Music] oh we've survived all class ones on to class two dimmer how have the first rapids been are you terrified i'm kind of shutting down all right let's go forward [Music] [Music] oh oh my gosh i feel like i'm in disney [Music] world double backflip do you want me to land on just a butt slide find a new suit backflip what your backflip off oh god no does it deep enough he'll put me in the middle i trust you wait did i lose everything yeah no glasses [Music] this was literally my goal for 2020 is to do a backflip oh don't follow me david okay do you want me to go back [Music] oh that was almost like a gainer that was sick it was way better now that i know where the bar is at david don't worry cap okay hey ready yeah oh my gosh [Applause] oh [Music] uh [Applause] a three plus [Music] okay we're gonna get a little sideways oh all right [Music] [Applause] [Music] oh [Music] 10 10 10. it was fun scary enough but still fun i think bigger would have been like too scary lots of learning lots of jokes great group okay what an awesome day with tahoe whitewater this was not a partnership or anything it was a random google find and it ended up being so awesome but probably the highlight of the day was meeting sienna the yellow lab who is a cliff jumping dog now off to get our dog who spent the day with a rover [Music] maybe we should hurry up and seal the deal [Music] oh [Music] clear enough to see it today thank god this is so unreal it's different but it reminds me of banff for both of us being from the midwest and coming out here i can't believe places like this exist in the states you could spend every summer here and not even see it all there have been multiple state parks around the lake it's i didn't realize it's so big it takes an hour just to dr more than an hour to get up to the other side whitewater rafting was so awesome today you can bike but paddle boarding kayaking boating hiking and then just the sunset or sunrise views from any point in the entire lake would be different the water's crystal clear you can even scuba dive in the lake here like all you need is tahoe [Music] i don't want to leave we still live tomorrow we have tomorrow if i would have known i just would have booked the whole trip here it's pretty awesome yeah but it's a good excuse to have to come back wow do i get to go show you around my tahoe okay off to dinner the year 2006 a young tim diemer graduates from college at the end of the summer after five and a half years uh anyways before beginning his professional life he wants to go be a snowboard bomb for a while so where does he go well south lake tahoe is where he begins his season these are his stories i work guest services for heavenly which means you would show up at the mountain and young tim dior would walk over to be like hey how are you guys doing gonna go find that pow today we're gonna have a good time at heavenly i know just right there with my personality behind me the gondola newish at the time in 06. before i was a very punctual person one time i showed up kind of late for my shift my manager didn't like it so she made me stand in front of the gondola and greet guests that were not coming that day it was completely dead there was no snow i stood in that spot over there by myself for an eight hour shift it's really boring and i wasn't late [Music] again [Music] at this casino a large man said some terrible things across the floor towards my sister read an altercation and if you're wondering why i couldn't get into canada during the rv trip two years ago this had a small part to play in that also i'm not allowed to gamble at harrah's anymore [Music] oh it's sweet well it's got to be a top question of yours where are we going to the bathroom where are we showering none of that is available the strategy here hopefully no one's in the restroom so i could actually show you oh my gosh you better not be cleaning it right now no [Music] well six minutes was surprisingly enough time because once i saw a huge spider on the wall then i was ready to get out of there but uh hot water and it's it's great it's totally fine and not having a bathroom in the van is really not that big of a deal so if you are new around here and you're interested in these backpacks or packing cubes each come in multiple colors and the cubes come in a six piece set now back to our regular scheduled programming hi pepper mommy's clean [Music] so [Music] three minute shower it is oh my gosh the third and final day is clear and the water is so blue oh my gosh and we're seeing mountains that we we didn't even see before there's still like 20 haze but it's just so much better than it's been the past couple days the rafting day yesterday you saw some blue sky but it's just like it sits in certain spots so it might look blue over you but looking out in the distance it's very hazy and it's been sitting on the lake this is the first time the lake hasn't looked gray it's got all the different colors and i'm so excited to just hang out and paddle board all day [Music] yes i'm so excited we have a clear day we are on the east coast nevada side and this is just a really rocky coastline area that's all kind of like a diy there's just parking if you can find it on the side of the road and then you hike these very steep trails down to just a little kind of rocky cliff that you can either put in a paddle board and we've got this awesome inflatable one that we brought on this trip um but there's plenty of places on the lake to rent a paddle board there's also dog friendly beaches there's state parks there's lots of places to get into the water we just kind of like this more off the beaten path find your own little private area granted there's 10 cars up there but we think that we can find our own little spot here on the lake [Music] to let go [Music] [Music] is this one of the instagram things that lives up to it yeah bye pepper [Music] [Music] [Laughter] we have waited until the very last second to leave tahoe you can tell the sun is low in the sky sorry for the noise it's got to be five or six o'clock what an amazing amazing place i don't know this was just wow tahoe we will be back we will be back i love it here i love it here [Music] oh my god it's a leg burning i love it oh it's so pretty if you're not from a snowy area this is for snow so that you can still see the road along this cliff and for the plower to plow along the road blast snow as we're fortunate to travel so much we do see a lot of places and i just gotta say tahoe tahoe got away on us we had so much we wanted to film and we got like caught up in the moment and just enjoying the rock down there and just playing around in the water we had so many plants like film different things today but we joke that sometimes our worst episodes are the times that we had the best time so i hope that we had enough content for you i hope you learned a little bit about tahoe i hope we inspired you to come out here if you haven't been here and um for those of you who have we know that we didn't even hardly scratch the surface of what there is to do here which just means that we're gonna have to come back for those of you who haven't planned to spend extra time when you visit yeah there's no lack of stuff to do there's no lack of stuff to do and i don't know we we don't typically have such a dramatic talk out review of the location at the end we'd usually just kind of like end our episodes but this one merits some type of like an exclamation point at the end of the episode all you need is tahoe we have to go to napa now it's not the worst thing anymore off to napa darling please get the van ready for me to go to napa fuel the roadster get my small fluffy dog and take me to wine country yes yes now i've
