back to the headlines. All right, Sal, thank you. Happening today, Alameda county supervisor will vote on the proposal to make it illegal to watch a sideshow. Spectators could go to jail and be fined $1,000. Rasmussen Alameda, with all the details. Good morning, Ali. Good morning, Dave. Well, Alameda county supervisor Nate, Miley and the county sheriff, Yesenia Sanchez drafted this ordinance. They say it's an important tool that law enforcement can use to crack down on the problem of sideshows. You can see evidence of that problem here behind us. We're at Alameda Point in front of the USS Hornet Museum where you can see there was a large sideshow that happened here last month. Take a look. And. Dozens of cars and hundreds of spectators took part in that sideshow here last month. Police issued 64 citations for people who took part in it. The people the video of it was shared on social media. But county leaders say not just participants and organizers, but also the spectators should face criminal penalties, too. And that's why the Alameda County Board of Supervisors is expected to discuss and possibly vote on an ordinance that would make it illegal to watch a sideshow. To be illegal, you could face jail time up to six months and a $1,000 fine if arrested under the new law. Now, in a letter to the board board, President Miley and Sheriff Sanchez explained the reasoning behind penalizing sideshow spectators, saying, quote, Spectators will often take video recordings of these events and post them on social media. This behavior can expose street racing and reckless driving to a broader audience and increase its popularity, end quote. Now, civil liberties groups have raised concerns about this ordinance. They say it's too broad and its definition of what exactly a spectator is and point out that journalists covering or getting video of a sideshow in its aftermath could technically be arrested under that ordinance. They also say 200ft is too large of an area and expressed concerns about the possibility of people who live in neighborhoods nearby. The intersections where these sideshows take place, being wrongly accused of being a spectator, if they just happen to pass through where one of these events is happening. So there's a lot for the Alameda County Board of Supervisors to consider here. And they will start at their meeting. That starts at 930 this morning, although this particular ordinance isn't the first item that they're going to be discussing. So they're expected to take it up sometime later
