hey everyone in this after effects tutorial I'm going to show you how to create this shattering text animation inside of After Effects without using any third party plug-in it's completely made in After Effects using native effects and it's very easy to create but before we start today's video around 70% of you guys enjoy my video but haven't subscribed yet so I would really appreciate if you can take a moment and subscribe it will help me a lot with that said let's start today's [Music] video [Music] all right so here we are in After Effects let's start by creating a new composition let's call this render as our main render com 1920 by 1080 that is full HD 30 FPS and 10 seconds long duration press okay now let's create another new composition this is going to be our title placeholder so let's call this text you can again Call It Whatever that you want I'm going to call it text press okay then another new composition and I'm going to call this um let's call this map all right and press okay so now we have three composition let's jump into the text com select the text tool and then you can type in whatever text that you want I'm going to type in break just like you saw in the example or in the preview align this into the center let's bring down the size a little bit like so you can add more text if you want to I'm going to keep it one and in the assets I have a few texture that I will be using for this particular tutorial you can download this free project file from the link in the description below so here we have the rough texture that we want to apply onto our text we don't want to keep it flat so I'm going to drag that down and then CH the track mat of the text layer to rough texture and set this to Alpha in inverted so now we have this nice texture you can adjust the texture the way you like all right then in the map composition I'm going to drag the plexus texture that I have here we will be using this texture to drive the animation you can experiment with different number of textures we will see later on in this tutorial all right I'm going to press s and let's scale this up by around 120 all right now let's go into our main render composition and here I have a floor texture I'm going to drag that press R to bring down the rotation and let's rotate this by 90° and this is quite a huge texture so I can select nice patch maybe something like this one and then select the ellipse tool and let's create a mask from Center so I'm going to hold control and click and drag to create a shape like so then press F to bring up the mask feather and let's feather this up by around 500 and then we can play around a little bit with the expansions so maybe something like this okay and there we have it I can press control shift H to hide the control layers okay there we have it now let's drag the map composition right here and we can hide it and then drag the text composition on top just like so now on the text composition I will add the effect that we want so let's go into effects and presets and search for Shatter there we go in the view as let Set this to rendered okay then in the shape let's set the pattern from bricks to custom here we have number of different patterns you can experiment with them if you want to I'll set this to custom because we will be selecting the map that we created or um the composition that we created earlier so let's select the map so this is going to drive the complete breaking animation let's set the Extrusion depth to zero all right let's close the shape let's go into physics set the tumble AIS from Free To None we don't want any gravity on this so let's set the gravity gravity direction to zero so now we have something like this which is looking quite nice as you can see let's increase the randomness to around 2 and for the viscosity I'll go at around3 everything else is looking fine maybe I'll play around a little bit more with the texture or the map that we have so I'll set this down back to 100 okay so that is looking much better as you can see pretty cool and the best thing here is if I make sure you set this to full so you can see the final look okay I think it's way too abstract so I'll increase this again to 120 okay so this is looking much better and realistic as you can see so now what I'm going to do is duplicate this text press contrl D to duplicate it select the bottom one and let's hide the shatter or we we can delete it if you want to then zoom in a bit in the timeline let's move this one the top layer to around 1 second which has the shatter effect applied on it and select the bottom one hold alt and right square bracket to cut that up so now we have a still text layer and then we have the shatter one okay now what I'm going to do is turn this second layer into a 3D layer and then right click and create a new camera let's keep it at maybe around 50 mm press okay and then we can animate this text so press speed to bring down the position let's go all the way right here create a key frame let's go to around maybe 15 frames and bring this closer to the camera just like so so now we have something like this so the idea here is it should look like it's falling onto the floor and then it breaks apart like so now let's select the key frames and press F9 to easy ease them go into the graph editor you can right click and select edit speed graph and let's go right here and move this in order to make the motion feel a bit more smoother so you can see we have something like this but one thing we need to add here to make it look even more realistic is some motion blur so now it looks much more convincing as you can see and I want the intensity of this blur to be way high so I can press control K to bring up the composition settings and go into advance and let's increase the shutter angle this should be 180 by default so make sure you change this to 260 which I have already did so this is looking really nice as you can see okay so that is actually looking quite nice all right you can anytime play around with the map to change the way it looks so for example if I set this to maybe 110 let's see you can see we get a really interesting look now let's select everything press control shift C to precompose it call this a scene or animation whatever that you want I'm going to press okay and then on this I want to add a handheld field like I'm shooting from a real camera so to do that I'll press P to bring down the position hold alt and click on the stopwatch and let's type in wiggle open and close parentheses and let's set this to maybe 2 comma 15 let's see what we get also I'm going to select this press s and scale this up by 1110 so now when we preview this we have a nice handheld feel as you can see it looks pretty nice and once again make sure you play around with the shatter effects so I can go into uh maybe physics and let's um play around with the mass variation so if I set this to maybe 15 let's see what we get yep you can see it breaks apart quite a lot it looks quite nice maybe let's increase this I think a sweet spot would be 25 yeah that looks much better I can also play around with the randomness if you want to that would make the particles or the debris look very random but that's way too much so let's go with point2 and the last thing that I want to do is add some rotation onto this text as well well so I'll go right here again press R to bring down the rotation create a key frame press U so we can see the previous key frames go right here actually let's go right here so we can see what's happening and let's rotate it a little bit like so place it right over here again select all the key frames F9 to Easy E them and let's create a similar curve so both the curves are similar so now when we preview this we have something like this pretty nice also as a final touch I will bring down the opacity of the flow texture I think it's way too intense or something like that around maybe 50% should be fine so that looks much better I think yeah and that is how you can create this shattering text or title animation inside of After Effects you can also use a different text you can use the logo if you want to you can use a different map if you want to and achieve some really interesting results so that is a wrap for today guys I hope you enjoyed this video and I hope that it helped
