in this video I'm gonna be walking you through the scripts marker trigger II for Adobe After Effects now using the script you can tag animations with names and trigger them whenever you want if you want to skip ahead to a specific subject you can click on the time codes in the video description using the script you can trigger compositions as well as properties on layers I'm going to start with triggering compositions so here I have a composition with three simple shape animations so to start off we need to see the composition itself so we'll need to drag it inside of another composition then to initialize the whole process will click on the create button in the market recovery panel if each layer in your composition has its own animation on it this option will basically create smart marking names from these layers that's not the case for us so we'll just skip that all right so this composition is now activated I'll just drag out the length of it and jump into it now in here there's a new new layer and this is the layer that we're going to add our markers to so first of all make sure it's selected and then click on the plus symbol in the amorphic toolbar you can now add a name for your animation now this will now mark where your animation starts drag that the duration of the market to tell those scripts where the animation stops now I'll just do the same thing for the circle and also for the triangle if you don't want to manually specify the duration of an animation you can also drag the bar all the way to the left which is going to reset the duration to zero now the script will assume that the animation end is at the next composition or the next marker let's jump back into the parent composition now in the list on the right you'll see these names that we've just punched in select one of these and click on the plus symbol to launch the animation you can add these markers as many times as you want and you can add them in any order that you want any time you change the length of a marker in the sub composition these up here will update when you click on load if you want to delete a marker select its name from the list and then come anywhere close to it in the timeline then click on the minus symbol if you don't have a marker name selected in the list these gripple just deletes the marker that is closest to the timeline marker if you want to change the name of a Mach group just select the name from the list and then click on the Edit symbol now you can type in your new name if you want to delete an entire marker set again just select the name from the list and then click on the delete button now we've deleted so many markers I'll just add a few back here now you can use the the buttons down here to navigate through markers again here if you have a specific marker name selected you'll only jump through markers of that kind [Music] if you want to get rid of the entire effect just select the layer and click on the X button now click no if you only want to free this very layer of the effect and click yes if you also want to delete the empty source node that is inside of the composition so now we're done with triggering compositions now let's trigger some properties this works in a very similar way the only difference is that we don't have a sub composition where we have an old that we can add stuff to so everything we do happens on this layer let's start by creating it again so we are now in edit mode and this is symbolized by the red label on the layer also every marker that we add here is red so we can basically now tag our animations up again so I'll just do that we have scale-up we have a bit of a gold Wild Thing here and then we have a scale down again now to actually get the whole thing to work we cannot click on the toggle mode this is now converted all of our keyframes in two expressions so this now behaves exactly the same way that it did with the composition so you can now add your animations back you can delete them you can edit names and so on don't worry all of these key pins from before aren't just lost and gone you can get them back by clicking on toggle mode again you can just edit anything you want now you can add your markers you can maybe edit the value as I'm doing here or you can add some new properties when you're done just click on toggle mode again now all the things you've changed will now be updated you might not always want to convert every single property on the layer so in this case I don't want to really convert the rotation so I'll just select the other keyframes here and click toggle and then you'll see that the keyframes for the rotation are still there [Music] so I have no duplicates my bullet point twice so they're all doing the same thing the default behavior of the script is that when you duplicate something these layers still share the same source so if I now added a property on one of these layers all the other layers will update as well you have to be careful if you add keyframes to a property that hasn't been toggled before so here I'll just add keyframes to a stroke width on this layer and I'll just punch in something here now if I toggle back you'll see that the other two layers don't really care about the changes that we've made that's because they don't know about it you can see here that the expression is untouched so what we have to do is select one of these expressionless layers and click on load so now all of these three guys are on the same page please also note that this only works on layers that share exactly the same properties I'll just delete the stroke of this layer just for demonstration if I hit load now these script will tell us that something has gone wrong also it'll tell us the path of where the error has occurred if you want one layer to be independent from its duplicates it selected and click on force new now the source of this layer has now been updated so you can now change anything you want this is now a completely individual layer [Music] okay so that's it forward triggering properties so let's move on to copy and pasting markers this is kind of an add-on feature that you can find under the second tab that says copy so here I have just for demonstration two layers that are kind of similar they share the same markers and now I want to copy the markers from the one layer to the other layer so select the layer you want to copy your markers from your copy and then select the layer you want to paste your markers to and hit paste this will paste the markers at exactly the time codes off the previous markers if you want your markers to be added wherever your timeline marker is select the first option and then hit paste now this by default overrides previously pasted markers if you don't want that to happen select the second option and then it paste now back to the topic of compositions now it's really useful sometimes to have one composition and follow the exact behavior of another composition and this is what this feature is about you can find it under the link and sync tab so I have two layer selected that I want to sync and I'm gonna click on convert to synced now it will tell us that any further options will happen in the effects panel under the layer control you can now select the layer that you want to sync this layer to now these layers should now do exactly the same thing you can also add a time delay that's in seconds so I'm gonna type in syrup in 3 seconds and now the sync layer will lag behind just a little bit okay last feature creating link Knowles across comps so one disadvantage of triggering compositions is that you sometimes have to hide properties inside of a composition that you'd like to have outside I've got a couple of position keyframes and Anchor Point keyframes that this layer up here doesn't have access to I can't parent it to that to help out with that we can now create a new link no just click on the appropriate button and then just type in any name that you want so this null here has a counterpart in the sub composition that it's linked to so I'll just start off by parenting the SAP Knoll to my circle here so all of these beautiful anchor point and position keyframes will now be transferred onto the null so it will just move along nicely if we jump back into the parent composition you'll also see that the null up here follows the exact behavior as well so now for example I could parent my text layer to the doll and now it's gonna bounce up nicely along with the circle isn't that beautiful along with link nulls there are also link parameters these can be really useful for complex templates so in this case here I'm just going to add a new color property and I'm gonna just click on the plus symbol you could type in a name here if you want now as well as to know this now has a counterpart in the sub composition we can now parent this property to our color here so I'll just double click on it and the effects panel to bring it up in the timeline and then I'll parent the color to the color off the circle now you'll see that these properties do exactly the same thing so now if I jump back into the parent composition you'll see that this property up here also follows that color [Music] now I'll just do the same thing again so I've got a fill here on my text layer and I'm gonna link that fill color to the color that we've just linked up so again I'll just bring these up in the timeline down here and then I'll parent the fill color to the color of the MT linked color now the text layer doesn't only move along with the circle it also adjusts its color okay that's it for that just the way that you can manipulate markers you can also manipulate properties so I'll just add a new property here and I'll just maybe maybe rename that you can see that this automatically syncs up with the property that is hidden inside of the composition you can of course also delete the property by selecting it and clicking on the delete button if you want to get rid of the entire link no select the upper one and click on delete selected link no now we get an expression here here and that's because the fill is now parented to a non-existing property so I'll just delete that alright that's it for the link nulls so that is market triggering thank you for watching if you have any feedback or if there's any problems that you have you can send me an email through the contact form on the website Margaret sugary comm and I'll try to reply as soon as possible so thank you for watching
