good morning everybody how you doing today my name's andrew i'm daniel i'm grandpa i'm megan i'm joel i'm gavin i'm autumn and we're some of the veggie boys and girls and we'd like to thank you for stopping by hey welcome back everybody how you doing we got hit with a loud thunderstorm last night we've been getting a lot more rain it's making this ground pretty soft a couple of my cousins work on a potato farm and it's been pretty hard to dig potatoes with how wet everything has been recently now we ourselves have had kind of a hectic morning we've been running all over the place we had to take some beef uh to the butcher so we were taking care of that early this morning and we've been dealing with so many jobs that we haven't had time to get the camera out but we did finally get the camera out we have a lot of things that we need to harvest we picked a lot of stuff for orders already today but we've got a lot more that we need to harvest today and one of those things that we need is red beets we've been going through a red beet crop pretty quick but it's getting to the point where a lot of people are canning them now so we need a lot more one thing this rain is good for pulling red beets out of the ground it makes it really easy to pull these out when it's this wet don't worry the safety chains are hooked i had to move the truck for a minute because this road gets pretty busy when our customers try and pull out they can't see down over the hill so just want to get the truck out of the way we got the red beets all cleaned up daniel's gonna put him in the cooler and now we're heading back out to the fields we need some bell peppers the busier we get the more peppers we need so that's a good sign so the boys were working on an order for bell peppers this morning uh they need 10 bushel of peppers they got some of that picked but now we're going to pick some more and we're also going to get some for the farm market so we're looking for about 20 baskets now what we need for the order is all green bell peppers so that's what we're looking for if we do find some really nice red ones we're also going to pick those because i heard that we need two boxes of really nice red peppers so whatever we can find we'll take we all agree as we're picking here one thing we are motivated to do next year is pull more weeds because we are not able to pull too many weeds out of this second planting of bell peppers and it really shows throughout our field you can't really see it right now because i'm picking but there is a lot of weeds in this field one of the biggest questions we get sometimes is how do we keep the weeds out of our fields and that's normally in areas where we pool our weeds because it looks so nice we can't just go through and spray over top of our vegetable plants for weeds because we would kill our vegetable plants that would be crazy so we normally go through and pool but in this area we didn't have time we had a lot of stuff that came up so as you can see there's just a lot of weeds that grow they have a really bright green color to them they look pretty neat i guess that's because the sun's not hitting them it doesn't have time to change the pigment of the pepper but really cool color oh there we go that's what we like to see bottom of the plant look at all these peppers gorgeous i just threw that pepper whoa here we go gorgeous i don't know what it is i never get tired of seeing these peppers as i'm picking as we're picking we'll find these like massive peppers and people will ask why don't you enter that in the fair because it's not fair when it comes to bell peppers we probably raise nearly 50 000 plants so we have so many more opportunities to grow large peppers so that's why we don't enter in the fair because well it's not fair when we can grow peppers that are this size yeah now this is a plant holy look at all that hey hey you're stealing these are my peppers the people just steal the peppers right off your plant it's unbelievable [Music] oh thank you there you go this is for you i appreciate that we are finding a lot of really nice bell peppers out here now when it comes to bell peppers we raise three different varieties of green to red bell those three varieties are king arthur revolution and vanguard when it comes to the varieties of bell peppers they actually mature at different rates so the king arthur pepper matures to a red pepper sooner than the other two varieties now the thing with king arthur is the peppers don't get as large as the other two varieties but they ripen quicker so it allows us to have an earlier red pepper even though they don't get the size we get those early colored peppers now the other two varieties mature at different rates so they'll turn red at a different time and the reason for that is because when we do a planting of peppers we don't want them all to turn red at the same time we did two different plantings of bell peppers this year so each of those varieties is going to ripen or mature at a different rate which will allow us to have more and more red peppers the whole year people really like variety so when they come into the store if they see all green peppers well they're going to ask you where the red peppers are and if they come in and they see all red peppers well now they want a green pepper so you got to make sure you have green and red we try our best to accommodate our customers these peppers grow green and then they turn red i plant peppers i pick peppers and i like to pick peppers you should get this earthworm on camera andrew look at that boy go whoa it's a good thing we got these guys out here with the red shirts to do all the heavy lifting us blue shirts can't pick that up [Music] oh pumpkins we wanted to pick some of these large pumpkins before we head back to the farm market we only have one left we sold the others they're really heavy we got some nice ones here we just got back with everything that we harvested we got our pumpkins we wanted to get these before we left the field and then we've got our beautiful peppers all right so we're going to take each of these pumpkins and we're going to set them down on this digital scale and then once we get the weight brian's going to take his beautiful penmanship and mark a little sticker on the side that tells you each customer the weight of the pumpkin the weight doesn't affect the price we usually sell these large pumpkins for 30 a piece that's what we get in our local area so they work out really well for us we've been very very busy with them people have wanted more of them so we raised a little extra this year no 108 pounds so far what we've got is a 98 pounder 112 pounder 97 83 96 and 108. 62 pounds uh 72 70. oh so good 72. 103. 96. that's that's definitely 98. got gas i heard it come out [Music] 102. out of all the pumpkins that we just harvested 112 pounds is the heaviest what's interesting is we had a video last year where we actually cut open a pumpkin and saved all of the seeds out of it and all of these pumpkins are from that seed so that's pretty neat we are the pumpkin breeders we need to get going here if we're going to pick pumpkins grandpa's getting grouchy let's go here's that massive pepper i picked look at that this pepper's got a nose this is a time for googly eyes all the orders have been boxed up and all the peppers have been washed the next job we're going to be moving on to is picking some pumpkins here for the farm market because we're closing in on fall time pumpkins are a big deal so we're going to go back and pick some pumpkins with the weather changing pumpkins are on a lot of people's minds and if we don't get them here to sell them then we won't sell them all right bo we got our five bins you ready to head out let's do it joel take me to the field now i personally haven't spent too much time out in the pumpkin field i have seen quite a few turning orange we're gonna see what we can find we're hoping to fill all these bins that we've loaded on this wagon [Music] we got all the pumpkins i got a little field trips like that beautiful we got uh some you know medium-sized pumpkins some nice got some white pumpkins look at these things beautiful these new these are called grizzlies look at those and there's a million other things planted out here and we have no idea where any of it is so the first thing we're going to do is go through and cut all of these pumpkins and then we're going to load them up so we're just going to make a bunch of piles and then come out through the field and sort everything andrew can you find this pumpkin i found one we've got pumpkins hiding in the soybean field this is not good this is not what we need now we're going to have to go hunting for them angel what hound should have a pumpkin [Music] yeah dad don't want those right the ones that aren't right yeah only if they're gonna get run over no that one's not gonna get run over grizzly now before i go any further we have a lot of animals around here that like to eat pumpkins uh mice rats but the biggest problem we have is with deer let me show you some deer were out here in this field you can see they have totally destroyed this pumpkin that we had here now the deer will come through and they'll bite holes in the pumpkins you can see this one they've destroyed we've only found about five six seven pumpkins that were eaten by the deer but it does become a big problem we've only gone about a quarter of the way through the field and we've found quite a bit of deer damage so far the problem is the deer will come and they'll take a bite out of each pumpkin so hopefully we don't have too much more out through this field what we've seen is really really nice so far and we don't like to see the deer damage but there's not much you can do about it and fortunately for us as you can see we've got a nice canopy of plant that covers a lot of these pumpkins and the deer don't want to eat them they just eat them because they're there if that makes sense for you this one's going up front fat boy coming through talking about the pumpkin spot on the back here you go here's something interesting this is what happens when the deer eat the pumpkin while it's green and then it heals i got a big one for you joel [Music] experience we just got up to where we stopped picking we just about have four bins filled these two on the front we just need a few more this front bin is a lot of the larger pumpkins that wouldn't fit through the measuring system we have at home and then on the back we have the white pumpkins and these little grizzlies so we're gonna try and find a few more of them as well now we've got our bins filled we took a couple more out of the field just to fill up these front bins this is what we like to see now it is like officially fall i'm ready for pumpkin pie grammy i'm ready for pumpkin pie [Music] what a catch i'm not risking it come on matt not bring [Music] [Music] see what happens when you catch pumpkins you get slugs on you got a little sketch there who needs four-wheel drive this is what we like to see this is going to get the customers really excited now that we're finished with everything outside we're working on closing up the farm market we're getting everything put away we got our peppers put away we're just putting away the last of the orders that we needed we got all of our pumpkins unloaded and we personally have a unique way to price these out when we were really really little dad made this unique ladder that gets bigger as you go down through and whatever the pumpkin fits through that is how much the price is see it fits through this one and it's really faded so we'll have to fix that up but that's how we price out our pumpkins so people can come through and pick out the pumpkins and then put them through the ladder and they can price their own pumpkins now there are some pumpkins that don't fit through the ladder and they'll have a different price and there's even these unique ones these will have a different price because they're specialized and i'm sure some of you are concerned what happens if someone doesn't price the pumpkins right or what happens if someone steals them if they need them that bad they can have the pumpkins we've learned that when you trust people to be honest with you they're usually honest so that's how we do it they price out their pumpkins and then they tell us the price inside and just like that the farm market's closed for the day it's starting to look like fall out here it just looks so beautiful we got all the mums up here we've got pumpkins up here that that's a far market you look so tired because you start the morning with a list that can fill seven pages no it's ten and she's the one that made the list i feel pretty special check that out oh thank you farmers that's a big sign i don't know where we're gonna put that [Music] all right guys for dinner we're doing something a little different tonight normally lauren cooks on thursdays um but callie was like an absolute menace today uh so lauren didn't have time to cook look at this kid how could this kid be trouble look at her she wasn't a menace she just did not want to sleep that's cause she needed to work it was just a rough day today so we decided get pizza from a local place help out another local person so yeah that's what we're having for dinner pizza and wings we're gonna sit down and eat together so that means this is where we're gonna end the video we want to thank everyone for watching and we hope to see you next time bye bye bye [Music]
