a lot of power [Music] ladies and gentlemen good morning aloha welcome back to the channel welcome back to this little piece of paradise that i call the lone star hawaiian garage guys we are with the 2020 trail boss today we're gonna be popping open the hood tearing out some stock pieces up in here and replacing you with something much much better i'm so excited for today's video because we are partnering up with cold air inductions today guys we are replacing the stock intake for something much much better we're gonna add a few horsepower to this truck today in addition to some amazing sounds we have our muffler delete kit from afe and we're gonna add this cold air inductions and i think these two pieces together is gonna make this truck sound completely epic but uh we have a few housekeeping things to do first off i'm gonna get this charger out of the way because we need a paradise cove to work in and the charger really hasn't been driven much in a little while so given the current situation we're running with covet pandemic i'm actually working from home right now and what that means is my 45 minutes to one hour commute to work and another 45 minutes home it doesn't happen anymore which i'm really grateful for but we no longer drive the cars very much so the chargers just sit here in the garage looking beautiful the 2020 trail boss we kind of scoot around town the 07 hasn't moved anywhere in a while that mercedes over there just sits at the end of the driveway but this beautiful morning we're gonna go ahead and hop in the charger take her around town because i really miss this car and we'll be back in a second to start tearing that 20 20 trail boss apart get it [Music] i just wish i could shift this car yes it has this manual setting where you can go up a gear or if you get a little frisky go down a couple gears and hit the gas but it's not the same i missed having that third pedal the clutch pedal i truly truly do miss having a manual transmission this doesn't do it for me anymore although i can get this thing to purple pretty good such a cool car oh goodness just truly didn't get a ton of traction with you guys uh views aren't that great for the car and it's just not bringing in the revenue i need for this channel so this thing can go away comments below guys what should we replace the charger with and what should be parked here in paradise code [Music] [Applause] [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] it's a it's a tight fit guys but it's gonna work this is the first time the trail boss has been in paradise cove so welcome to paradise cove mr or mrs trail boss let's go ahead and get going we have a cold air intake system from cold air inductions we're gonna be installing today on the trail boss this truck is completely stock except for an afe power muffler delivery in addition to the buffer actually deleted the flapper valve as well so the truck sounds amazing but it's gonna get even better because what we're gonna be doing is ripping out this restrictive stock air box and installing this extremely high flowing cold air intake can you say bald eagle more power blah blah blah power yeah that's what this is gonna give us well guys we are all ready to go but i'm slightly heartbroken at this moment because the stock air box is gonna stay on for a few more days and uh the part that was sent out unfortunately i didn't even look at this before um that's not my generation silverado so actually this system is meant for the previous generation which is up to 2019 this is a 2020 and everything under here is different the previous generation the air box and intake was started on this side came in this way with the new generation we're here on the driver's side so we are sending this back and getting the right one sent out so let's go ahead and just well there you go guys the correct intake is here we are back at it happy aloha friday guys i have no idea when i left off or when this video will air but happy aloha friday let's go ahead and open up the contents of our new intake to see the actual contents of the cold air induction system for our 2020 silverado trail boss we have obviously the last generation if you guys are interested in the last generation no you can't have this one but you can go to colderinductions.com to go check it out because the build quality on that last generation was pretty dang good i'm excited to see what they have in store for the new generation silverado let's open this bad boy up and see what we got [Music] [Applause] [Music] all right guys here is the contents of our new cold air intake system and i know i mentioned just a moment ago how big that filter was but oh my goodness is this massive that is a massive filter we have our air induction housing a high quality material that's going to prevent any type of heat soak and it also has our plexi glass view where you can actually take an eye and look at your filter and how dirty or clean it might be that way you don't have to pull completely apart to inspect your filter again it's not going to heat soak similar to these old plastic gm housings unfortunately it does happen when it comes to the filter element high flow filter from cold air inductions extremely massive we have our pcv tube we have our inlet tube with our mass airflow sensor location and then lastly this adapter here that's going to adapt directly onto our throttle body which is going to get rid of this ugly thing i really don't know the purpose of this horribly ugly thing but i'm glad it's going to be gone along with this highly restrictive system what's nice about this system guys in addition to preventing any type of heat soak that you would experience with this plastic it's going to allow a smoother line to the engine to pull in clean crisp air the part about these kind of rubber hoses and all these kind of folds here and these quick 90 degree bends it's going to create a lot of air turbulence and that's what this is going to prevent this has got a clean slick smooth surface for the air to travel directly into these eight cylinders to be converted into power power at the rear or all four wheels which is nice about this truck so let's go ahead and start pulling this thing apart we're going to take a look at the instructions see step by step what's got to be done and then we'll explain a little bit of the science behind cold air intakes and why they're so popular and why truthfully they actually work now the first couple steps are pretty simple and straightforward the first thing we're gonna do is actually go over here the 10 millimeter socket take the negative side terminal off of the battery the last thing i want to do is short something out on my brand new truck step number two back here this pcv hose gonna disconnect this from this intake box and then we'll head over to this side to start disconnecting and disassembling some of these plastic and hose pieces one thing i will say one thing i will say about cold air inductions that i truly appreciate are well thought out and well executed instructions these are step-by-step instructions color photos super simple and super easy to follow and this is one thing that i've truly seen out of us-based companies and time and time again i worked a lot of companies on a lot of different products us-based companies seem to have really well thought out instructions and colder inductions is right along with them truly care about the end-to-end process the end user which is me having this a seamless and easy install matters a lot u.s based companies like colder inductions i'm all about [Music] oh it is summertime in texas guys and it is hot but the box is gone the box is finally out of my engine bay this is so ugly and finally my motor looks like a true v8 should man it looks a lot better look how clean my throttle body is look at that dang this is my first ever new car guys i apologize for my over enthusiasm but how clean it is i love new cars this is great before proceeding i wanted to check one thing and that was the pcv system i was just curious this motor's only got 2000 miles on it and seeing if it actually started recycling some of that junk already if i could actually fill the build up and i think i yeah i definitely can and it recycles through here back to the intake jeez yeah wow i didn't expect that for so low miles but if you guys don't know a pcb system what it does it recycles whatever doesn't get burned by the engine in the first place back through the intake to be burned once again this is a direct injection engine actually i think i have one of the last port injected engines in that silverado but the direct injection yes it's more efficient but what happens a lot of times you get a little bit more of a blow-by and some of that nasty stuff that seeps past the pistons and what this pcv system does it recycles it instead of going through the exhaust and out the back it actually pulls it back through the motor to put back into the intake to be burned once again to make all the prius owners super happy but given you're driving a silverado you probably don't care about that i do care about the environment guys but this is not that big of a deal but the long-term implications of that is because you're putting that junk back over the top of the intake ports you'll eventually have a lot of carbon buildup on those intake ports you'll lose fuel efficiency you'll lose power and eventually you'll have trouble with those intake ports seeding into your heads correctly so guys i wouldn't recommend maybe doing this but what i'm gonna do is actually install an oil catch can to prevent any of that crap being put back into the engine you don't have to worry about it with these silverados over here because those are port injected or that generation is anyways and what happens with those all the fuel additives you have in fuel actually going over the top of the intake ports cleans the intake ports constantly so you don't have to worry about that as much but direct injected engines you definitely need it the 392 charger we have out there is notorious for a lot of blow by that junk being cycled around and that catch can fills up probably once every like 6 000 miles it's actually really surprising how much of that junk would have been recycled through the engine so i'm going to be installing a catch can in the near future if you have any recommendations of a catch can for this truck that you like leave in the comments below i need to get one i need to get one asap all right back to the cold air inductions we're gonna disconnect the wire harness and start removing this plastic piece here next up get an eight millimeter socket with an extension you're gonna have three of these bolts to remove to remove this top cover [Music] all right guys two thousand miles what do you think oh that's a fancy filter so next up we're actually removing our mass airflow sensor from the old box and installing it and on our new cold air inductions tube right there [Music] [Music] next thing we're going to do is grab our new pcb hose and connect that bad boy for the meantime anyways until i get a new catch can so i'm pretty sure this part's gonna be fun because you actually have to put the filter on with the box out of the truck because this filter is so big you actually have to kind of put it together out here i'm gonna take this baboose i'm gonna thread it through here [Music] so so there's no doubt that cold air intake systems are incredibly popular typically the first thing you do when you buy a car who doesn't already have one you pull out the stock intake system and you replace it with a cold air intake system part of the reason they're so popular is one they're easy to install but two they actually work science and dynamometers have actually proven that cold air intake systems actually add power and create efficiency now the amount of power deficiency is going to vary a little bit by vehicle and if you can actually tell from the driver's seat the difference i don't know if that's actually true but there's a sound difference and typically that translates to feelings of hey i got more power but regardless it actually works you add horsepower you gain efficiencies and the science behind that is super elementary now cold air versus hot air when you have hot air you actually have less oxygen molecules per square cubic feet call it than you do with cold there as air is cooled the air becomes more dense so when you get an intake charge into your cylinder if that air is cold this is cold as an example you have more oxygen molecules within the cylinder so when you have the combustion cycle it's a more powerful combustion cycle it's actually more efficient vice versa if the intake charge is hot if it's hot air in there the molecules will be expanded and spread out which actually means you have less oxygen molecules in the cylinder itself and then when that combustion cycle happens it's less powerful now it's a very minute difference but there is a difference and it creates efficiencies which means you actually get better fuel efficiencies with cold air than you do with hot air so what happens with these cold air intake systems it aids in the induction of cold air it blocks out the hot environment from your engine bay from impacting the air temperature of your intake charge from this piece to the box itself this is going to shield and protect temperature of the air going into the engine this particular setup does use the stock box so the amount of free-flowing air into the box really is not going to change it's how easy that the engine can actually suck in the air from this massive filter from colder inductions and i'm anticipating some decent gains when it comes to mileage and then hopefully i can feel a little bit of horsepower i doubt it though i know it's going to sound a little bit better but i'm going to keep a very close eye on my fuel efficiencies just to see if it makes an impact on this particular model the og the 07 silverado does have a canon cold air intake system i immediately saw a difference in my mileage i gained about 1.5 mpg by installing this canon cold air intake system i will say the build quality of the cold air inductions is actually better than k n sorry k n it's true the actual build quality of the housing of the tubing is night and day colder inductions so much more sturdy so much more durable i'm optimistic to see what the cold air induction does so i'm done talking it's time to hit the road and test this thing out firsthand i'm so excited that exhaust is so loud it's hard to hear anything else but foreign five take that back guys i can definitely hear that that intake noise is contagious that's gonna be awesome so i'm gonna get buttoned up get cleaned up we're gonna go for a little test drive i'll probably leave you in the engine bay to get a little glimpse of what i'm talking about but we added power boys we added power today a lot of power power power powerful power monstrously powerful we like power so this is where you guys are gonna hang out for just a second and then let's pray that it does not fall off and end up in my radiator fan or anywhere else it's not supposed to be [Music] oh sounds a bit different and i like it oh yeah i know part of it's emotional but she feels a bit lighter on her feet for some reason but that aside that sounds amazing my exhaust tone changed more than i expected i didn't think the exhaust tune was gonna change at all it's a little bit deeper and throatier now and on top of that you get a little bit of an intake charge noise you can hear that kind of wisp from the intake which i really really like and again at the exhaust i think this might be the perfect combo [Music] oh that sounds so good all right let's see if my second gopro survived hopefully it's not the middle of the highway somewhere she's alive man guys i know it's only been a few miles but i didn't anticipate the exhaust note change this was already a pretty deep and throaty tone it's not a little call it unrefined given it's just a muffler delete but now with that cold air intake system for some reason the the tone has changed quite a bit and it's a little deeper and it seems actually more refined now than it did previously so i'm super happy about that and then on top of all the wonderful weeds over here the intake charge noise i love you have a little bit of like a hiss as you accelerate you get that initial gulp of air you don't get with a stock intake it really shields you from that noise and most of us enthusiasts like that noise and if you're buying a trail boss chances are you're an enthusiast and i can't close my hood just right there we go and i don't know why chevy just from the factory doesn't give you a colder intake to enjoy yourself more maybe they want you to buy your own i don't know let's keep driving guys now what's interesting with these newer trucks you're so cocooned from the outside world they spend so much refinement on blocking any noise or sound from when from outside sources to really give you a piece in place of oasis on the inside which is really nice but even with that this cold air induction systems penetrates either through the firewall wherever it is you can hear that slight hiss of the intake and i really like that i'm really interested to see the mileage gain now given this is a family vehicle we drive it a lot so i'm curious if we're gonna save any fuel but if i keep doing that we're definitely not gonna save fuel and typically speed parts leave to heavy right foot so we'll see where we end up there well there we have it guys the colder inductions cold air intake system for the 2019 the 2020 silverado this is specifically for the 5.3 liter model which is going to be the majority out there on the road this is so much more pleasing to the eye the old intake when i would pop my hood all you saw was just a bunch of ugly plastic off black plastic a weird rectangular design nor the word for besides ugly this is so much more aesthetically pleasing much more streamlined you can see my intake you can see the motor and not only that this cold air inductions filament filter this massive filter is really cool to see through this plexiglas we got our cold air inductions insignia there so colder inductions colder intake system last thing we're going to do in this video is take another quick look at our k n system the og the k n cold air intake systems obviously very similar in the design aspect just to get air from the intake to the engine as streamlined and efficient as possible this is a massive massive intake but when you talk about the material that this is made out of this is a hard plastic so this plastic isn't necessarily better than what's on the truck stock what is better is this piece here this is going to block out that hot environment that this sits in allowing to pull clean crisp air from up underneath the truck from the fender from underneath and into the engine itself so comparing the k n to the cold air inductions only time will tell quality wise what i like better but i will say first impressions very impressed and very excited about what the future holds for this trail boss colder inductions guys check them out at colderinductions.com all their information is below check out the social media as well thank you again so much we'll see you guys in a few days for our next video until then y'all take care [Music] you
