Bon Scott was a bit of a pirate he came after his women with the sword and he didn't care how many layers of lingerie they had on and he got on stage spit snarled scrapped you know tore his shirt off he was the epitome of a pirate I'm gonna show him dressed as a pirate and I'm so dress that's usually a pair of jeans really well you know when you when do you think pirate you know you think swagger he was drunk and he was sober and he was loud and he was bluesy soft he had all this going on and I know that that guy has at least drank one if not two bottles of Jack since throughout the day and the dude never lost it like he's on stage hitting all the notes like how did he do that the rest of us young kids growing up looking at that you don't want to emulate you know that kind of rock'n'roll Sensibility you know the boogie the swagger that you know just a rip-roaring good time you know let's just tear it up he was great bunk I mean he had that voice he sounded like he was somebody while he was singing you can hear the charm ooze through the microphone you know you can hear the wry smile you can hear the twinkle in his eye he was really howling in pain and that's a beautiful pain you know a drunk man's pain a party man's pain what bond could do so well with Brian Johnson could also do is is pretty unique and singing it's it's incredibly hard to do it's incredibly strenuous and what they were able to do is take what a normal person would consider their speaking voice sort of a mid-range comfortable area and take that up almost a full octave into male falsetto and still do that powerfully because people can do falsetto but the sheer power that both of those singers are able to project is completely you know off the charts unusual it must have just been in his voice because it's almost impossible to sing like that so he must have just been able to do it without trying you know neither of those guys were trained but they I think in a sink or swim kind of way learned to project in that way and you know kind of maintain their vocal cords as much as they possibly could you add on top of that that they're both smokers and drinkers and we're talking about superhuman talent here I can't really think of many singers before Bon Scott where it sounded like the guy was singing at maximum volume every line I mean if you take a band that was sort of comparable in the time say Aerosmith Steven Tyler did not sing like that at that time he'd occasionally kind of go there Bon Scott saying every line like it was his last you know you get this ominous whisper you get this like screech you get this kind of just you know mischievous laugh if that's even possible within a singing voice while he's telling this incredible story they're just I've never heard anyone like that he's just one of those rare people you know you put them up there with guys like Keith Richards and guys like Lemmy and even guys from other walks of life like life like William Burroughs or Charles Bukowski or you know guys like that I look at Lemmy and I think that guy's a real deal Bond's got the same thing you know Keith Richards you look through the guy the guy's a real deal he did drink all the booze sleep with all the women you know get into all the fights and and really had been that even before he was in the band that was just his life as far as a lyricist I mean way ahead of his time bomb was always writing things down and you know before he was in the band when he was between bands when he was like working various odd jobs and he was always just looking around at the world that he was in and writing about all the misadventures he was constantly getting into so when he got together with the band he just had this treasure trove of lyrics going on constantly and was also adding to those adventures basically every single day you know eat hear a phrase or read hear a comment he write it down and use it in a song so he was always collecting things and listening to people he was a rock star just living and like working as a fisherman or you know hanging up posters for no money around a small town you put that guy in a touring rock band I mean you've got like material for the ages that's what a great artist does is so you know there's two folds one observes the society and composes accordingly and the other lives it and composes accordingly slash from Guns and Roses told me that bond Scott was too hard rock and heavy metal what Jim Morrison was to rock and roll in poetry some guys make you feel like you're not allowed in and that's kind of what's fascinating like a Bob Dylan you're not really allowed in so you kind of find yourself like wandering Bon Scott invites you right in bonds saying about his trappings his failures his insanity you know he's basically saying I'm going to hell in a handbasket here and I know it but it's not it's not gonna stop me bond was definitely the ringleader of the ac/dc circus and the master of ceremonies and you know the band lothario just put it all together you can tell he's out for trouble but you can also tell he's a very lovable guy it's it's a very interesting dynamic I think bun inspired everybody to have a good time not only the band but the audience to not take things too seriously cuz life is short and he did teach the guys too you know he told Angus go out there and be a big kid he's like kind of like you know like a kid that's gonna kind of you know get in trouble but you're never gonna really get mad at him the guy who would you know disappear from one gig and show up like three days later with no shoes no shirt you know bottle of booze and some really great lyrics for a song and of course there's that that great moment where they ask him if he considers himself a rock star and he just kind of looks up and says no but sometimes I see stars and clearly he was a rock star and clearly there were times he saw stars - I think that bond definitely would have been a fun guy to party with without a doubt I explained the story about having my 16th birthday and you know part of me wanted to go go join him with the with with bond but at that point you know the rest of the guys in the band wouldn't really let me you know funds sexual escapades we're legendary he liked women women liked him bon Scott's the epitome of just like a shirtless dude and jeans who looks sick yeah and he looked at you like he was you were naked you know he's undressing you and you could feel it and and you know just like and you don't know what he's gonna do you know I think I would hide my daughter but back in the day I might have done the man I mean what do you think contra and supposedly he tried to do more than one activity a day didn't think of anybody better to teach them actually three girls in one day was a trifecta they're gonna do it sooner or later anyway you know what are you gonna do and I'm sure he enjoyed the groupies I'm not trying to say you know he wasn't into that but I feel like you can really tell that he loves the rock and roll to and the music and his band like you can tell that he loves being in his band when he joined ac/dc I mean he'd been around the black literally a couple of times he'd been through a near-fatal motorcycle accident and he knew how good ac/dc was he knew he had hit paydirt and he I think he never stopped being grateful of the position that he was in and he enjoyed every single second of it or that the end of bonds life the taurine was hard on him this wasn't a guy who is who was looking for longevity he had been on the road for like 13 years by the time ac/dc was really taking off with highway to hell it's the beautiful curse being an artist and yeah how do you sleep at night when you're writing songs and have 5,000 ideas I think I think it makes it's pretty logical whether it's good or not that people end up hitting the bottle or like several other things and God bless us all that will survive and it really sucks when people don't he couldn't live at that pace anymore he knew is either stop or die but bond embraced that you know would he would say in interviews that the bad food the loose women and all and all the booze and traveling was actually what was keeping him you know fit as a fiddle they didn't like it the trouble was somebody left him in a car overnight he definitely didn't think he was gonna you know sleep in his car that night I know why he slept in his car but he you know he felt probably when he he laid down it he's gonna wake up the next day I'm gonna be fine cuz she's how he lived his life you know I mean how many times have we been in a situation where you know a friend gets you know gets over the top and and you just go well you know just sleep it off just just stay there and you know it was seemingly a very innocent the way that the way that it went down bonds official cause of death was death by misadventure death by misadventure because you know it's just a adventure the whole thing I mean rock'n'roll is an adventure you know when you think about all the great rockers that died at 27 Hendrix Janis Joplin Jim Morrison Kurt Cobain there was nothing passive about these artists they went in eyes wide open into the battlefield of rock and roll all the Rock and Roll myths to me is fine it's part of what goes on but at the end of the day was the guy great singer did he write interesting songs and does the work in der do I still want to listen to it and obviously do millions of other people yeah so I think that's the thing the beauty of the music that he created with the band is always gonna be here and it's always gonna live on and we can't all say that you know those records will be here long after we're gone so what we have on record is this absolute shining star at the peak of his talents before it goes supernova and to me that's the best you can hope to be if you're somebody like bon you
