back to work on my 1980s chevrolet corvette back here she's a four-speed t-top flavor and has relatively low miles as well she had an engine fire so i got to dig into that and get all that fixed up gonna take the supercharger off get her back to the original engine setup clean up the interior and i got to clean up the paint and polish that up as well i even got some tires for it got to put on this thing and the reason for that is i did the right thing and traded it for a car sight unseen so after i get finished i'm going to jump in and drive this thing over 700 miles to eastern michigan and swap it for another car i mean sounds like a very comprehensive good plan nope you ready yeah [Music] if this is the first time you're seeing this here yellow corvette i'm going to do on you a favor and there should be something floating in up here click on that and that's where i got this car unfortunately the previous owner passed away and it sat in the field just forgotten for many years i scooped her up and in a couple days i threw a supercharger on it put it straight into a burnout competition i have four miles total on this car and that was all just spinning the tires so i've never even actually driven it or put it on the highway per se so i think we're going to start by just opening up the cabin here it was last summer the last time i even fiddled with this so let's see what's inside i got some parts i see a gas jug maybe even some good going-to-town gloves i don't know we get all that cleaned out then we'll open up the power barn see what the horse looks like under there i just kind of been ignoring it to be honest because it just get a little i'm a little nervous you know after that competition in florida i just loaded this up on the trailer and then dumped it off outside and it sat there until about two days ago i brought it in here and cranked up the heat because it was just covered in snow and ice let it dry out a little bit but i haven't been in it since man i like these door handles neat idea that smell it's a very heavy fire extinguisher-ish gasoline moldish-ish but i don't see ants scurrying everywhere apparently consistent negative 20 kind of runs them off ooh that gas jug's about to pop here's the fuel making happener very expensive one my uh you can see fire damage on that air cleaner unfortunately i don't think they knew because they just kind of started doing the competition stuff but they used the wrong kind of fire extinguisher there and it really kind of ruined my carburetor and the blower i mean just as far as appearance they're still going to function but look at the throttle blades in there they're just black from sucking in fire and smoke fan actually gave me this after the show and i think there's a quadrijet in that bag as well that was really cool he drove like i think it was from texas just to come over and watch that was pretty neat but we'll start pulling all this stuff out see what we got going on in this and i'm starting to quickly remember how disgusting this thing was i'm not sure if i unhook the battery or it's just dead because keys rolled forward got nothing going on and i don't remember nothing buzzing or anything like that so but the good news again is we might have gotten rid of the ants so if you've got an ad problem just ship her up to minnesota let her sit outside for four months and gone and technically it's free guy figured he needs a table set up here so we pull all the stuff out we just plop around the table i unfolded it and banged it on the ground and look at this 87 913.7 amps came falling out and one was live and kind of just started heading that way this table just sat on the same trailer as that car so i mean that just tells you how bad she was infested it was nothing like i've seen before there's more over here great now the shops it's going to get covered it smells like brandon cattle little doubles what's behind protein anyway corvettes working our way through it and this explains that new fresh mold kind of smell i'm thinking the t-tops might leak just a touch that thing's about ready to pop go ahead is this the airplane juice in here yeah that's got some airplane juice save on that it's pretty expensive but i think we're gonna come back to this later kind of let her air out a little bit because it's i mean you could bite on it i'm gonna get under the hood first this is everything we pulled out of it nothing too intriguing other than my going to town moldy america shirt run that through the wash she'll come back around cue jet in the bag new gasket i guess that's pretty nice this actually fell out and hit the ground unfortunately [Music] that sucks really bad he's bent up my fuel line and throttle lever but i got to take this apart and rebuild it anyway and i wish i could find the other one of these these are my favorite lincoln gloves it's a premium leather guy can move his digits better in it so i think where we're going to start is under the power barn here no sense in dolling everything up if we can't get it running and driving so i had a little bit of a fire kind of kind of in this region you know right around here and then a little bit over there i had to take the fuel make it happen or off to get the hood to kind of close while we towed it and while we stored it but the plan is basically pull the lightning roller off get the charger off see what kind of damage we got going on fix any of the wiring like all this stuff that's burnt together and melted take off the rev limiter put a different intake get the cue jet back on it there's nothing wrong with quadra junks they're great carburetors folks just get scared of tuning on them might even put the factory fan back in maybe leave the digicle in just because i'm lazy also back up we don't know if this is going to heat up on the highway or not but kind of get this just dolled up back running something reliable change the oil then we'll get it up in the air see how the u-joints held up in the rear end this is a year they had the aluminium rear make sure everything looks good there then if that all goes well then we'll get into polishing out this paint we made some clouds i ain't kidding you [Music] get some different tires on it i don't mind driving on 35 year old tires but i don't want to give someone else a short end of a welding rod so i'm going to put new tires on this i don't want to be that guy in a deal so he'll have something he can ease around oh i almost forgot disconnected the rear brakes damn there's another 17 days so i'll figure out the brakes too i guess bleed on them and then last figure out what to do with this this four things been flooded more than a pirate ship and i ain't kidding you got a little more room in here now got the lightning wheeler off got the lightning hoses laid back them might have survived we'll look closer in a second but gives us a little more room to gander in here radio capacitor made it through fitting got a little hot but she'll ride this got pretty toasty this is a patch i made during the supercharger install this still looks connected but i think i'll shoot some brake cleaner in there these are definitely melted up but these are all grounds to go to a lug down here so i'll just kind of tape these up but i want to document all this the best i can so the feller that's getting this car knows what he's getting and over on this side got to put some tape there but thankfully it didn't get into you know the meat to the harness over here lost a couple vacuum hoses that's pretty much to be expected but it's actually not too bad i think once we get this out i'll probably pull the valve covers off and uh just kind of start going through each wire make sure we don't have any issues i'm gonna pull this out get the rev limiter off and then i'll start on the old let's force some air in there and get some rip ems machine off these roots blowers are so easy to assemble and disassemble and they make really good power actually and it's right there just these four 5 8 bolts and that'll bring the whole snout off carb comes off like any other carb and then you've got just a basic intake these are pretty hefty though once i get this out of here we'll really get some room okay save the gasket too so this is some of that fire extinguisher damage here a little worse on this side some of this will polish up but that pitting and stuff that's not going to come out of it and then this was probably this chargers last hurrah it's gonna have to go in for a rebuild you can see the teflon really took a beating on this one and i swallowed something i don't know what it was but it bounced around in there a little bit and really wreaked havoc so i'm gonna have to send this in get her polished teflon rebuilt and i'll go through everything here and send it back brand new shape oh this is that's also shot this is what it looks like after you breathe some fire and smoking for a while that'll probably clean up but here's some more of that pitting and stuff i did wash this down as quick as i could and got some cleaner on here but i mean by the time i got to it damage was pretty much done i'm gonna snip the radiator hoses off here and then we'll pop that off and then get the old rocking back and forth and covers off you know looking at this now i'm really surprised this got a little melty but man am i lucky this fuel line didn't go up when i jumped out and came running around the car this is what i thought was going to be on fire but now that i'm sitting here looking at it it definitely was a valve cover leak and all this oil just sat between the head and the manifold until it got so hot it just went up and then basically all the oil and grease went we took out 9.86 quarts of coolant try to get this down a little bit we're still going to drop a little bit in the crankcase but that's okay because i'm going to change on the oil [Music] anyway [Music] there's two of you wait now three wondering why is a guy cleaning this up already when i don't even have these off yet and that's just to save myself you get the valve covers off and start to grind in and whirl a wheel in and whatnot you're going to get a bunch of stuff up here on the top of the heads it's a good idea to plug your oil valleys obviously your intake and everything like that before you get to scraping and whatnot hit her with a razor blade and then i come back with the cheek poker and the electrotronic twirler here got her pretty clean and then i just take the air hose and and then it's pretty clean nothing bent down here some of you were commenting on that burnout video that i can't believe this didn't blow up but listen two minutes at 6 000 rpm ain't nothing for a small block chevy either ain't on the chevy yet but you're just not giving them enough throttle that's what they're made to do is just sing the national anthem we're gonna pop these off see what we got going on over there i think i might have some chroma laters to pop on both sides then i gotta run down to the hardware store and get some gaskets and some gasket maker i posted a comment in the other video what do you call these here guys and overwhelmingly it was china wall and then there was 104 of you that just said the end of the block looked over the valve train and i think we're fine i don't see any rocker arm studs that are pulled up and i don't see any valve springs that are broken or anything like that so everything's looking good here's a part of the valve cover gasket that was on this side and they're just so dried up from sitting all those years they just never stood a chance hindsight being 1312 i probably should have pulled those off and put new valve cover gaskets in but i mean we got this thing running literally 12th hour they were calling our name when we were pushing this out of the shop so didn't really have time fairly clean engine i mean i've seen cleaner but this isn't bad to be honest looks pretty darn decent and i'm gonna run the uh casting number on the head here just for giggles see what kind of heads we got on here i'm sure they're smogger heads but you never know and then we'll clean it up a little bit more and start the reassembly i finished cleaning everything up and i got the gasket sitting in here now and i wanted to do that right away so my silicon can set up a little bit where it's tacky then we'll plop the intake on and while i was in here i went ahead and did a craigslist rebuild model and what that means is take any sort of random spray paint and just but only about three percent of the engine total and what that means on craigslist is this is now fully rebuilt but i lost the receipts dang it but honestly this is an old school trick soak down your heads here obviously lay some rags i use license plates don't get it in the oil valley there and then quick throw your gaskets on and it makes it nice and sticky so these are going to stick to the head now they're not going to slide around on me be sure you goop up your corners first and then i lay a quarter inch bead on the china walls i don't know what you guys do you can leave it in the comments if you use the actual rubber gaskets but i really don't i just uh throw a couple in here just in case i might need them in an emergency some there rear mains fuel pump um and then oil pressure sending you in at kind of the main things that leak on small blocks here's the factory intake right here with all the gigamagoos and whatchaman outlets on it and it's a little dirty and i picked up a new one but the only reason i did this honestly is i thought i had left this in florida so i was kind of bummed out about that i picked this up on a black friday deal i think i only paid 109 bucks for this and it's actually a nice unit got it from jegs and what was the q jet because i'm going to put the original quadrajet on it there's nothing wrong with them carburetors when tuned right they're just fine but just wanted to kind of show you the difference quite a quite a bit difference actually when you really start looking at these and the runners this one might be although it's shorter on the bench that's the belly it might be just a scooch taller there but not too worried about it and of course this is a blower intake but that was the case sits quite a bit higher so let's go get this on and that four nozzle fuel make it happener teach you a trick that i learned in the pits of nascar in 88 nope that didn't happen but anyway still relevant way down here is my valve cover bolt she's a bugger to get to you can't really put it in there with your fingers so run some plastic into your socket then stick your bolt in what that's gonna do for you is she'll just hang on there after you get the bolt in just pops right off makes it super easy making some progress here through the fan in since i got a little bit more room to get that done now got all the heating and cooling hoses on got the lightning roller in i did roll it over just to make sure that i was at top dead center because i think i moved the engine a scooch tightening up the fan there got all the lightning hoses in things there they're moving along a little bit i had to find some different pipe fittings here to plug analyze this up and warning warning warning these bolt provisions go all the way through they don't bottom out like that one bottoms out this is for a coil or points ignition these bottom out them puppies go all the way through so i had to put some bolts in there and some teflon and that's going to plug them up a little bit so we don't get any drippage also coming back on these heads these are just basic smogger heads 76 cc they're 19415 valve nothing special but it does show that the block the heads the intake everything on this engine was originally factory and there was nothing changed about it obviously the guy did i think he did some hdi upgrades water pump couple other things you can see in the original video but it's the original engine anyway so now we're down to the fuel make it happener try to get that quadrajet back on here i left the bracketry on so this should i think i should be able to make this happen pretty quick i got to find a one-inch baffle for these different valve covers uh we'll have to make some sort of fuel provision here i am going to put another fuel filter in line up here i pretty much always do that but we're getting really close to firing what does this go to i don't know put it down there getting really close to firing this thing up again which is pretty cool see how it runs let her idle a little bit get nice and hot then we're going to drop the oil out of her change on the oil again and then we'll move on to the rest i don't want to really say more just yet but i promise you guys you're going to love this car that i traded this thing for it's pretty awesome so make sure you stick around for that it's coming up soon got a 700 mile trip with this thing that we're going to snag her up i might even drive that home we'll see what happens probably not yeah i'll try i'm sure got the q jet plopped on gonna pull vacuum off the booster here did put a clamp later on that she's a little wobbly i got this plugged off for now but i might run that down there's a valve down here right there that runs on vacuum when that's open it circulates coolant to the heater core pretty sure i'm gonna need that because everything's melted off so i'm just going to keep that on there for easy access i am going to run vacuum advance since we're going to be on the highway you know 728 miles so i'm going to run that around front here got this plugged off i always hang on to these really common when folks do carburetor swaps they just you know slice them off i have like probably 200 of them in my toolbox and that's exactly why and i'll put a little filter in here save yourself some money if you lose your bolts here to the quadrajet just go down to the hardware store i'm running the thin gasket not that big quarter inch one so a three and a half and a quarter inch washer that's a 5 16 bolt works just fine if you're running the big thick gasket on the bottom get yourself a four inch bolt and you cut about about a quarter inch off and these work just fine save you about 15 20 bucks maybe more with shipping i don't know but it's a savings is what i'm saying this is the gasket i use mr gasket was just laying on the shelf you can see it's probably from the 80s that's fine threw in a wix filter up here on the fuel make it happener so we're making progress pretty quickly up here you're going to be really surprised but the battery on this was dead and i can't find my good sensory charger so i did the right thing with the china freight got the cheapest one of course this is another one of them units well they won't even turn on unless they sense voltage so i got a battery down here she's clamp lighted up and then i'm running some fire hoses up into here seems to be working i got domage now oh that smell my goodness i'm just going to leave that door open the heat in the shop is just it's cooking it quite a bit is what i'm saying oh can't forget to put that back in so we're getting really close to firing this thing up i think once i get the fuel make a hopper bolt down put on this one lightning hose get enough juice in the batteries i think we just uh we're going to twist on it and see what happens i did go on ahead and mention up this bracketry here in the first couple videos and this normally goes all the way across the quadrajet here and bolts onto the other side as well if you're swapping to an edelbrock or a hawley and a guy's in a hurry you could just hit snip that off right there and there's this post that hangs down and on other carbon riders that's bolt provision is farther out so that post rests against the outside of the carb and that prevents this from moving forward when you give her the old juice well you can throw it right back on the q jet because of that post there's a hole in the actual base of the carburetor here and this is solid as can be still so don't be afraid to hack them up if you're eventually going to go back and these are also handy to have on the shelf for the tool bag as well because they work pretty much from late 60s all the way up to early 80s and then they changed them a little bit to have a kick down as well over here on the automatics i'll come back after i get this filter in i'll do a quick once over and then just give her an old twist are the keys in it i hope so oh great couple reminders while i'm in here you don't have to do all the torques on this when you put her down just snug it you know if you're nervous about a leak and after she's running you can spray some brake cleaner or something around the base but if you go on and twisting on these you're going to warp her up pretty good also don't forget your gasket underneath the lighting wheeler there otherwise you're going to get a pesky leak underneath your lightning wheeler stick and she's going to drip down the back of the engine and you're going to panic and think that your rear main is out and sell your car for 60 less got this put in pretty confident we got fuel right at the fuel pump being she's mechanical so what i'm gonna do is just fill the bowl actually instead of bottle feeding it and that way hopefully i could fire it up and get her idling and by that time she'll be filling the bowl again by itself and this is just some 93 octane fuel and some two-stroke oil just in case she doesn't fire if we got digital issues or something we're not just dumping raw fuel into the pistons it'll help lubricate the upper end just to squosh until we make adjustments and get her fired i think yep this looks ready good enough let's jump in turn the key and see if it barks off not going for perfect here guy just wants to hear it idle a little bit just enough to jump out get my timing light on it also known as my earlobe make a couple adjustments to the fuel make it happener and then once we get her warmed up then i'll start dialing it in okay here we go negative battery status that's weird y'all might be wondering why i'm changing on the oil since technically it has zero miles on it i just wanted to make sure that i don't have any metal shavings or anything in the oil and also when i drop the filter and change that i'm going to pull out a wicks put another wicks in make sure we don't get any shavings out of that i don't want to give this guy a lemon if it's hurt or anything like that so across our fingers so far this looks absolutely fine very typical glad i got under here because i really forgot forgetting about the rear brake line here i glued this in with some sort of epoxy got to try to get this out get the rear brakes hooked back up and then bleed on them but while i'm under here i was kind of poking around the u-joints seemed just fine a little bit of concern about that but everything back here is just telling me let's go of course the exhaust is going to be really annoying i cut them like this if you remember so when it smokes the exhaust was pushing the smoke out and that did a really good job oh souvenir man i love southern cars this thing is so clean under here compared to anything you'd see up here in minnesota or north dakota really clean oh i mean it has a floor of course a lot of this is fiberglass but even seeing steel and all the other components not rotted is very much not typical up here a guy had actually anticipated strugglizing up here a little bit but that actually went a lot easier than i thought thankfully i didn't cut this i was thinking about just taking a vice grip and clamping it off and then my brain said no don't and rarely i listened but i did here's that bolt kind of neat you can see the mark there where it hit the bell on the inside of that proportioning valve and then that goop on there it just made a crack noise and basically came right out so that's good got the oil drained i even greased everything up i know that's weird it's you know but everything's greased up i think we're good down here bring it back down to the ground top her off with some oil and i took the tires off yesterday because i got to get some new tires on it i suppose we could look at the i think there's some bearings in there or something mazel look at them so i just grabbed my test light here and made sure i pulled this off and i'm not going to do it because this clip is broken and this just wasn't seated very good in here but i discovered that when i took her off i was getting juice put the meter on it just make sure you're getting 12 volts i got a piece of rubber jacketing off a wire wedged in there with it to keep it nice and snug so we'll give her another go here so smoking more than a retired bingo player had the shutter down got a geyser just shooting out of this old hose up here got to figure out if i can get that clamp laid a little bit better and then the whole reason the fire started that manifold over there is just cooking off some heavy oil hopefully that valve cover gasket is going to hold the new one i put in there should just heard from my wife jessica there's a huge snowstorm coming supposed to be between six and nine inches of snow and 45 mile per hour winds and that starts tonight which is great because we were planning on leaving tomorrow morning super so i started tanking around with the heater and i wasn't getting any juice this is lying down to the heater i got it now and i was running the wire over that i had hooked up to the electro digital air mover up there that i removed but i still had the switch under the dash so guys started thinking well i'll just switch on the blower motor because i tell you what guys i am sick and tired and not having to eat any hooves i was reaching over here and started moving this thing and sure enough that's my whole issue and i'm thinking it's that very very corroded wire right there that happens to be the same color as this indeed so i'm going to clean that up a little bit plug it back into the blower motor and with any lock that thing works because i am not replacing that it's way back in there i think you got to take the wheel well out i don't know it ain't happening is what i'm saying so i'm gonna dink around with this a little bit see if i can oh we're getting phases of lights this is fancy oh nothing there it is guys wasted quite a bit of time here i don't think i'm gonna be able to clean on her like i wanted to but now that i know there's a 92.36 chance i'm gonna get caught in one of the biggest blizzards so far this year it'd be nice to have a couple basics blower motor blows slowly no idea where it goes it's definitely not going in there so that's great no heat once again wipers weren't working found a random wire in here that's got 12 v's on her jammed her into the motor started turning a little bit jiggled on some wires and the good news is if i hit the give me juice button inside they slowly do this and then down once that's all i've got i got some wipers on the way shop's running me down some i'm gonna put some of that there uh what is it drip down beat up sauce i don't know what it's called anyway you wipe it on and supposedly you don't need wipers some sort of magic gonna do that i'm gonna check these bearings quick let's throw the tires and wheels on this thing got the tires on of course you got to put the white letters out just let the 80s sing you know lost the tire just like this on the s10 so i did the right thing and bought another set of four that's fine had some hood clearance issues with that other filter element so i went with this one off the blower and you can still see the fire extinguisher residue in there that's okay it'll clear itself out that's a reinforced filter so it doesn't suck into the blower had to snip off the nut up here and that weird splatter is my spit as i was cross threading it on still the thread gentlemen still a thread got all this vacuumed out you know this moldy death water just been spray away in these seats trying to get a more pleasant smell in here it's not working i don't know what i'm going to do for room i can maybe fit a small spare tire back there never mind my son just popped that doing a burnout on an s10 we don't have a spare tire so i have some more room back here i'm not just throwing a couple tool kits and some miscellaneous parts and what have you probably just packed like a backpack i don't want to set anything down there that's the problem but i'm gonna have to i don't even know if any of these gauges work i don't recall i mean i know that i've got amp i've got my oil pressure and hopefully like this speedometer works and stuff but i guess we're gonna find out pretty well as good as this is going to get in there i'm going to run home throw a couple pairs of socks and a garth brook shirt and a backpack grab a couple more things tomorrow morning i got to leave early because we got that blizzard coming in and this is not really the vehicle one wants to be in during a snowstorm or so i'm told anyway and basically first drive ever and i google machined it at 738 miles ah it'll be fine well she's the following morning got her all warmed up she fired right up this morning got all my milwaukee power harbor freight tools jack stuff like that got my battery jumper this also doubles as my charger upper thingy plenty of duct tape overalls jacket i also ran some this is like screen door rubber up around this because this was squeaking really bad yesterday and that would have drove me mad went ahead and did that and here's my source of heat i got some i don't know what these are canned heat not quite sure how they work yet but we're going to be riding in some snow i have a feeling so a guy thought i could just plop them up in the dash here tape them in of course maybe they'll smoke up the window for me and then i got that figured out it's called rain-x just really you know i put her on she's on there so i think that's it we're gonna call that good enough you know i've done this literally hundreds and hundreds of time and no matter how much or how little you prepare you always forget something or you say i should have grabbed this that's fine we'll just we're going to make it happen well the weather stripping did nothing complete wind tunnel well i guess it did shut down the squeaking that's nice i'll take it this is officially the longest i've ever driven this that's fine we've only got uh 726 more miles to go i've got a winter storm right on my tail i drove through it this morning to the shop it's freezing rain really icy and then it's got fluffy snow that comes right over top of it it's not good and these tires if you watch the s10 video they're about as worthless as you can get in the snow great up here there's a little gas station gonna top it off i don't know if the fuel gauge works and we still have that uh nav gas in here we should probably get some you know real life jam it on the interstate down technically it's eastbound or not speedometer is 10 miles an hour up i use a gps system i always like to check on that and try to keep the cotton level down and lucky for me it's not so much the wind noise here or here or here here i can see outside there or there here or there or back here it's right here that's where the wind is just i did bring some uh gearbox this time i'm gonna shut that down pretty soon [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] stopped at a small gas station i like by the way now is a good time to be out there supporting on these small businesses and whatnot they made me up a delicious looking sandwich got some stuff to drink fuel gauge is working it's running about 180 degrees which is the thermostat i've put in still got a few pieces of oil pressure i think we're ready to just go right now it's about 30 degrees out i'm guessing because it just started spitting snow in here it's must be about 40 still i can't see my breath so i don't have to worry about frostbite yet when i get to see my breath i'll probably suit up a little bit thicker i can't imagine it's going to hold heat much longer with all the air coming in here oops my cowboy boot likes to hit the throttle and to break at the same time which is normally very convenient but not when you're coming to a stop sign [Music] yeah just another day i'm just gonna keep the skinny pedal down hopefully i poked out the other end here if i go too slow i'll never make it out of this i probably should have a coat on by now but i don't want to stop and waste time putting it on so we're just gonna keep on going did jam this up in here it helps with the noise [Music] [Music] [Music] [Music] stop getting first tank of gas i only ran her down to about a half but i just wanted to be sure so filled that up threw the coveralls on it's definitely getting cold and bringing in a bunch of water i think that's all the snow and rain that came through settled down and just want a great sitting there burn i found this in there the cigarette lighter don't work but this here looks like she's got some wires hanging off her and that battery is right behind the seat there so i'm gonna wire it in and then lay it down on that water you know and then some heat fire and electronic stuff will happen and that might help a little bit i got the jacket ready just in case i need to layer up one more but so far so good i don't know how many miles in i am but it ain't enough i'll tell you that much got her wired in and if you're wondering if you should buy one of these nope utterly useless can't feel nothing but i didn't want to show you this i carry these with me you know the old wingnut style and i also carry the old clamp later down style because you just never know what kind of battery fixings the guy is going to have to get into so that worked out pretty slick got to get my holder upper out of there there so yeah i'll just toss this down on that water and continue to let it do nothing and let's hit the road because that snow is catching up with us i got the telephone jammed up in the visor here it's kind of nice uh i could glance up and see my speed and we've got i'm gonna try to go about 300 more miles today and then i think i'm going to shut it down and get a motel i just i can't do the drive 10 14 12 9 hours a day i just can't do it anymore i also ran some duct tape down the center of the tea box and around the front and that's really helped not only at wind noise but i don't have ice cubes hitting me in the teens anymore which is that's pretty nice you know i immediately take back the duct tape idea apparently the end of it has come loose and now it's making a really aggressive fuzzy slapping noise stop it now yeah so don't do this that uh this doesn't work that's not it's not good so we're just gonna go back to uh antarctic mode and just let it see how it just scoops right underneath there that's good nothing in here whatever [Music] well i don't even know where i'm at liquor mart [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Music] i didn't make it very far at all actually pulled over into a rest stop kept hearing uh you know the drive line clunk the dreaded you joint clunk i have to throttle off the throttle turning left and right and this is these are great because they got these huge i mean you can go down and back and just keep making laps anyway found out it wasn't the front drive line then i thought oh shoot we're getting back into these u-joints but remember i just looked at them then i found this remember fellers i always re-torque your leg laters and i thought you know because i gave them 15 oogadoogas but luckily i got uh got my torque wrench in here so i'm gonna go around the whole car if this one's loose i don't know why the rest wouldn't be getting close zap these down quick repack everything and get on the road again unfortunately it takes longer to unpack and pack than it does just to go [Laughter] [Applause] but that's the way she goes [Applause] well i thought to myself i wonder if a guy shouldn't look closer at this situation here so i did and what i think is going on is the 10 lug nuts on the rear of the car are actually dormant and they're a two-piece lug nut with the washer because i misplaced the other 10 somewhere in florida and i think what's going on is the shaft of the lug nut is just a little bit too long and it's bottoming out against i guess it'd be the hub i don't know it just it's too long is what i'm trying to tell you if you'd listen so the washers aren't quite snugging up against the wheel this is loose no wonder so i took one off the front wheel which is the oem you know and through that on the back wheel and then i guess what we'll have to do since now we're aware is every gas stop will just oh gaduga the wheel is a little bit you know i'm just uh shutting down the snow vents i think i've had enough a couple of them hit me right in the eyeball and as refreshing as that sounds it's not there we go oh this might be oh yeah this is my body heat's getting her warm in here oh ruined this now great let's go [Music] [Applause] [Music] so rockford over there that wants to wait till the sun's going down like this where you have limited amount of light left then figure out why your headlights aren't coming on yeah they're actually on they're just down and i got to remember it on this this right here i think used to plug in to the manifold vacuum like this off of the pcv line and i put a new line in there and lost that t so i think what i'm gonna have to do is just jam this into this one wrap some tape around it fire it back up and there's a vacuum canister down here that should operate these open and then we'll make sure we got i think i can already see that one yeah so long as we got one on each side we'll be good to go and uh less likely to get pulled over that way i wonder if i got tails oh yeah i got tail lips they're good there got her dialed in these are pretty cool how they flip up like that now my idol is doing this so i'm 99.8 sure there's a massive vacuum leak or 12 maybe seven i don't know there's a lot of them but i'm going to pretend that i didn't hear that because i want to make up some more grounds let's get scooting [Music] so [Music] [Applause] [Music] [Applause] [Music] now oh i got 439 miles down i think that's enough for today i'm gonna shut her down gotta take advantage of these motels right now they're so cheap you know used to get like a motel 2.6 but now i can get a motel 9. some of them got breakfast and coffee pots cars running really good windshield wipers started working out of nowhere apparently my switch is more corroded than the oroville dam i didn't turn them off i just shut the car off going light started coming on and off just took the old leatherman in here yeah just deleted that real quick we'll check everything in the morning basically i'm going to go find something to chew on and get a couple mountain sodas and a few hours of sleep we'll see you in the morning good morning 713 early a.m clock i don't like it got a couple hours of sleep because i woke up at about three and realized that i left a title to the corvette in the glove box so i did the right thing and didn't come down but luckily car's still here and i don't think anything got taken i got most everything else already repacked i just need to check the fluids here now we can hit the road i always like to see this looks like it's plugged in but it's not now it is a little bit of anti-theft if you've got a coil system take the coil wire off put it on the lightning roller take a lightning roller and put it on the coil it won't run but it looks like it's complete something leaking here that's great just that hose up here again and i think it's really quite about ready to pop so i'm going to pretend i didn't see that and let's just wait till we're on the side of the interstate not sure what that is got cut off this fix clearly that held all night so we got plenty of vacuums we'll leave that alone i didn't turn the wipers off so this morning they should start going looks like it rained all night but i didn't get a bunch in the cab which is great there's just a little bit in the floor which is pretty typical thankfully it's clear today i don't see a bunch of snow and stuff like that and we're over here we got a bass pro shop either it's like a speaker city or maybe they'll have some fish and lures and propane so i'm going to go up there i got one of those mr mr heater mr their buddies gas keep your warmer things but i need one of the small tanks run up there and check that out but i'm gonna tighten up the lugs and all the tires again i gotta feel up i came in on fumes last night i just wanted to get here basically so we'll go fill up and today i have about four hours says the system on the telephone so for me that's about six great where's the gas station i do see a donald's black coffee oh it rejuvenated oil it's even fuller than full fine there get them get go back let's go back in what else do we need to check coolant yep okay good yeah i mean she's looked over cold start day two down easy there we go two three four pumps gonna let it warm up for about 10 minutes get this heat going and i can find where a gas station is [Music] you know i think i found some gas here family express it's fast pretty sure they don't even have a jingle but that would be a good one if they did ooh we got fd 9300 premium let's do that i need this choke to turn off and it's just not hard to find stable so the car i traded for is actually up in a little township up north of detroit so i'm going to stop out of town 15-20 miles before them because i don't know if they're gonna have a motel or cart stores and i didn't bring any parts yet so i gotta swing in and get some stuff i don't know but it's saying uh 265 miles [Music] so [Music] so well we made it i'm actually in joseph's shop right now and the car that i'm trading my 1980 corvette for is back there in the corner over 700 miles through sleet freezing rain snow even did some mud bogging to get back here car did absolutely amazing this engine runs really good i got exceptional fuel mileage i never calculated it up but 1415 at least these tires surprisingly did well even though they're more of a kind of a i don't know rain tread all around they did decent not bad for the cheapest on evil bay the only bugger is the weather stripping that was not fun having all that snow and wind and everything ripping through there but i tell you what guys going from abandoned to revived to supercharged to burned to alive again over 700 miles corvette did awesome and another successful road trip of course if you've been watching this long i got to give you a sneak peek of the car i traded for hasn't ran in 10 years plan is get this thing running driving and just take her back home you guys are not gonna want to miss this episode if you're not subscribed please do that now hit that bell thing it'll shoot up when new videos come
