- Hi, I am Rachael.
- And I'm Yankai. - So this is our house. Our house is really very brightly coloured and it was all intentional, but what we really wanted to
avoid was having the colours sort of clash even though
it's so brightly coloured. So for the partition spaces, what we did was we picked
one main colour for each of the rooms and then the door colours sort of matches the interior to act as a portal into
the different spaces. - And to balance all these colours, we chose to keep the walls
and the floor quite simple. So off-white and grey. And then we injected more
feng shui furnishings. Our house is in Queenstown
near Margaret Drive. It's a three-room flat, 699 sqft. We live with our two
cats, Percy and Jiggy. So this is the transition
space for our house. We have worked on this space the least and initially it was only intended to house our shoe cabinet
and the litter box. We are still adding stuff to this space. Right now, we're filling it out with secondary colours as you can see. So the centrepiece of the living room is really this big bookshelf and we really wanted a big bookshelf to house all the books
and all the knickknacks that we have gathered over the years. - One notable addition is
sort of this little shrine of like black cat pictures
and like memorabilia that we sort of picked
up over our travels in the last two years, ever
since we've had our black cat. So like my favourite is probably this cat that my current boss and one
of my good friends gave me. It's a holographic running cat. She got it for me in New York. Another sort of important piece
to us is this sort of sketch of what the living room would look like. This was before we even had a living room. After we bought the place and after we started buying different pieces, we sort of wanted to see how
things would fit in the space. So as you can see, like the
string shelves are here, you know, the coffee
tables, even the couch. So we had to sort of see how
it all looked like together. And this was sort to give us the assurance that we weren't making bad
choices about our purchases. The thing worked on pretty well. We picked a variety of
materials all over the house. Just looking at the shelves, it's black metal with wood. And beyond the materials,
we also have just different things of all sorts. So a big one for us is the
hanging paper bird mobile that we picked up from a kid's store. We also have a whole bunch
of different accent lamps to sort of add light into different parts of the living room as
well as in the shelves. - Before we go on, lemme just share with you about an exciting

the description box below. Alright, now let's head back to our tour. - Then we also have this couch that we have also invested a lot because we read that velour
is one of the materials that cats don't like to scratch. And then we also have these
cushions that are strewn about because when we host, we
wanted a space for our friends to chat and chill on the floor and do it like a fireplace. - In the day when we
don't have friends over, I'm usually sitting there
working on the coffee table. - So we chose to keep the
dining area quite simple. We chose a clear plastic table and then instead, we added
colour through the chairs, that rug as well as these paintings with basically big washes of
colour as well as this lamp. - So the lamp actually is a PH 5. And the colours we picked
for the lamp, funnily enough, match the colours of
the kitchen very well. Moving on to the kitchen, which is the blue room of the house. So we saw landed on this shade of blue, just this really light
powder blue, robin egg blue, 'cause we wanted to keep
the space feeling as light and open as possible. And then in keeping with that, we sort of minimised
the amount of shelf... like cupboards and closed shelves. So mostly open shelving here. The only sort of big piece of carpentry that we couldn't get away
with, but we actually had to get made was this half-depth cupboard. Basically hides all our dry goods and our big counter appliances. So this means we have a lot more space to cook on the counters. This giant silver hob, which
we do use very regularly, it was actually picked up by Yingkai. And there are all these like
very pretty bright red knobs that sort of match the drawer
pulls all over the kitchen, which we actually sourced
from the Ikea kitchen section. - So next we have the bathroom. Yeah, we specifically had the door to match the inside of the room. From the get-go, actually,
we weren't very pleased with how the space planning
was done in the bathroom. So we got rid of one shower and instead put in a second vanity, which we thought made a lot of sense for us in terms of daily use. We also had this wallpaper,
which is basically of a lagoon. And then to match the wallpaper, we had these Terrazzo countertops as well as the brown towels to give
it a kind of a beach vibe. Finally, I had this door pull that I was really proud
of when I first found it. This is pigeon on a white ball. - So now we have the bedroom, which is painted in this burgundy shade. Wanted a dark colour 'cause we wanted to keep the space feeling cosy. This is our cat, Cheeky. Cheeky! We kept the decor in the space very simple because wanted to be
a place of relaxation. Nothing too much here. Just a few lamps, prints
and a pendant lamp. We have this green rectangle
painted onto the wall to sort of emulate this bed frame of this really cool green
bed frame that we saw, but we could never buy. So that was a cheap
solution that we thought of So dividing the sleeping
quarter from the other side of the bedroom is actually our wardrobe, which features accordion doors. So basically, doors that
sort of fold in half, like by folds, and it allows us to sort of see everything
in our wardrobe at a glance. And finally, on the other
side here is our study area. Just a very simple setup,
just a shelf and a computer and our chair. - So separating the
bedroom from the shower is this sliding door. This used to be a normal bathroom, but we got rid of the
toilet as well as the sink. And this is to create a
very open and airy space that we enjoy unwinding in. And I've always wanted a shower that kind of looks like a swimming pool. So as you can see, we
picked the blue tiles and the white tiles to
best convey that imagery. Having lived here for almost
two years, we are very happy with how our home has turned out. It has come very close to
initial vision of the house was. This meant that our planning process has worked out quite well. It has really allowed us to optimise what we think is a relatively small space without really sacrificing
the things that we care about. - [Rachel] This house is, you know, not a one-and-done project for us. As perpetually fidgety people, we are really not wedded to
this version of the house as it is now. We really like the idea
of a space that evolves with our needs and what we like. So we are always a little bit dissatisfied with how the space is. And we're always sort of
interested or looking forward to what this house can be next.
