we've got a renter friendly bedroom makeover and we're going eclectic maximalist so if this works take this advice home we did it I think we might have these on the wrong way you got to explain this one to me Becky they're aesthetic only hope that's okay with everybody it looks so good I love it and is our production coordinator here at the SAR girls supporting with all things running the business as well as video production and if you are subscriber you've definitely seen her in our videos before yes andn is such a big character in all the best ways and loves character in all of her design but since moving here from Ireland with just one suitcase she's now in a condo that's honestly lacking a lot of that character and hominess from back home MH did we get that right an yes so since Ann has such a strong vision for what this space could be and is an avid DIY yourself she's actually been helping us out over the last few weeks to prep this whole Space mhm we've been diying so in secondhand furniture lighting Decor in order to bring this makeover together but there's still some elements that we want to keep a surprise from you so I think we're going to kick you up for the next two days while we actually make it all happen in here yeah now yeah right now okay but I was ready you're so ready I'm sorry I know you're ready but it's it's time to go not this make over no next one bye guys have fun okay bye bye she seems so exit she's so sad it's okay we need the reveal you guys need the reveal okay this is a look at Ann's mood board she wants pops of color and pattern and overall we're going for The Eclectic maximalist style yeah she said she wants it to feel like an off duty artist lives here which let's be honest that is Ann mhm we're going to ring in so many amazing pieces including a hidden fold down desk DIY unique lighting and all the Vintage pieces that she's been collecting this mood board is gorgeous but if we were to purchase all of these things to make it come to life brand new that's going to cost us a pretty penny for example these squigle curtains are $468 the average price for these zigzag lamps is $125 this designer mirror is over $3,000 these mid-century teak bed frames can go for $1,100 and finally these bookshelf lamps go for for around $400 that would make our total for just these key pieces alone for this space $5,095 and we still have to sore so many other pieces to complete this space so that's way over budget stay tuned to see how Thrifty and crafty we can get to pull this idea together at a fraction of the cost and did we mention it needs to be render friendly yeah all right should we get started prepping yes let's go [Music] okay so we have some leftover paint from the office it might be a little bit warmer but honestly we just need a fresh coat in here and I think it's a little weird honestly that we're painting the room white when the style is eclectic maximalism but if you look at the mood board so much of the reference photos actually were of white spaces but the color comes from all like the really cool pieces and artwork andex styles that are bright and patterning so I think if we do the same it's going to come off as eclectic maximalist still I'm really hoping this style comes through and a lot of people are in spaces that are white that they can't paint so if this works take this advice home we did it [Music] okay yeah that's nice color [Music] so before we switch the bed let's get the rug down so that we don't have regrets and we have two rug options to play with today actually let me get also the bedding and the curtains this one's a safe choice because it's solid yellow this one's very much like we want pattern lots of pattern but is it going to be too much everything else that's why this style is hard because it can quickly become too much very quickly so we're playing with this pink and red and then we love this for the bed I'm sold you're sold beautiful yeah should we put it down I guess so no regrets baby yeah I think so we got color baby should we bring in richelle's new bed frame now I think relle should bring in richelle's bed frame but this like this is what's going to drastically change the entire bedroom yes a is getting a big upgrade today you're getting an upgrade it's time for you to glow up okay because like virality no glow glow up glow up I thought you said blow up and I was like you got to explain this one to me Becky this DIY is going to be so sick it's going to blow up I mean it might just do that too hope so get a hand this thing's huge she's massive I'm so excited the color already is everything so the idea is that it's like renter friendly so we're not going to touch the wall at all it's just going to slip behind the mattress what yeah rushelle so it kind of stays on its own I do have a couple pieces is to just kind of screw it to itself here but I mean even on its own that's dude St that's even better for an to do say it in the accent oh yeah but like Irish not British what's British do would you like a cup of tea St and then Irish is would you do you want a cup of tea stonin did I get it I think you nailed it nailed it [Music] very thinking low hi do you need me to volunteer as sleeping person volunteer sleeping I will do it I even have a prop with me because you know you have to like go through the motions yeah I also feel like we we have to play with with in and in in and out what that looks right it's great right right there that's the one this is incredible relle it's a masterpiece right here and I hope you know it some might even say [Music] stunning what any might just RI my pants no no what did I yeah wait I love these pants wait no we can fix them yeah here wait you take my B for me okay coming in oh wait we need them more than one there's a lot of there's a lot of cheap showing my on things I never thought I would do that no more squatting for you no more squats thank you you're welcome wow rip rip [Music] literally this contact paper looks really good what a hack what a hack there's nothing a good Ikea Hack can't accomplish love it okay do tell us how much it cost to build this beautiful headboard grand total us coming in about $265 we're off to an amazing start on this room is that it for today I kind of think so yay okay then we need to bring some more color in here [Music] [Music] okay wait it looks even better in here it looks so good in here Raj can you guys believe that I made this out of a hollow Corridor in a mirror that an already owned I'm impressed I mean I can't believe it I can it's so good so I picked up a hollow core door off of marketplace for $10 then I cut off the side of the door that had the hole that originally had the knob on it and I was able to use some of the wood from that part of the frame to reinforce the side of the new Edge I made so first I cut the pill shape out of the center of the door and then I cut the arch into the top I cut strips at 8in MDF as wide as my door was thick and then I used glue Nails clamps and tape to insert that MDF into the inside of my pill shape and then wrapped it all the way around the arch frame since the existing mirror was rectangular I had to cut off just enough of the corners for my mirror to be able to fit inside the arch frame clear looks good yeah looks great hey looks awesome before installing my mirror into the frame I painted the inner rim of it blue and the outer frame orange so I screwed the mirror into the frame using the screws that had come in the original mirror I painted the backing board orange and then I screwed that in on top of the mirror okay so this is one of our designer dupes so how much did it cost in the end guys I was able to make this mirror For $52 so good and the fact that you reused a mirror she had already is like like the little cherry on top yeah and this is not just a mirror it's going to be a hidden desk that it is first we need to mount this piece to the wall okay let's do it I can't wait to see it come together an requested a standing desk in this room but since the space is small we built a fold down version that will hide behind the mirror when not in [Music] [Applause] use wow [Music] okay on to the next thing so this idea came from an herself and personally but I think it's genius yeah so when she was like I want to cover up the closet doors I was like why don't we do peel and stick wallpaper it's so much easier but she already did that on her bedroom door so she kind of want to do something different the pull wrap's not done yet it's still going on strong yeah and I was like pull wrap on the doors but it is quite light yeah the renter friendly ability of this is that it's going to be attached with this super sticky tape I've used this before yeah so because I think this holds so well I think we have one shot to do it [Music] right yeah pretty good yeah that's a new door in 30 seconds good idea an it's giving me like fire haul but in the good way he giving me old Canada with the weight it's just not the Canadian flag right now that's true just a little leaf [Music] there wow I love when a process works so like I feel like picking the color of this was really hard uhhuh cuz it's like what do you do in this space we know we have pink curtains we know of the orange and blue mirror that's right up next to the doors we know we have this colorful carpet and we know we have some like red accents for all of our styling elements so well speaking of more red in the space should we bring in the curtains oh yeah wait uhoh down all right I think we might have these on their own way yeah okay wait how do we fix these just a quick flip around and it's like it's like it never happened from the bottom from the bottom from the bottom yeah from the bottom from the top make make it drop onto that hook those are some peted curtains okay okay beautiful is averted so yeah we made this so that instead of doing a trim on both pieces cuz that might be overwhelming since we knew we were doing two sets of two yeah there's a trim on the left of the left curtain and a trim on the right of the right curtain so it just looks like one really big full curtain yeah which I like I love a pinch pleat really sells the moment always yeah it was needed okay let me tell you how we did these so we started with the these pink velvet curtains from Ikea as the base then we picked up this red felted fabric for the trim felt is great because the colors are usually super vibrant and it won't Fray when we cut it to make the wavy trim itself we made this wave repeating pattern template and then traced that onto the felt I just picked it up and kept moving it down and tracing it for as long as I needed then using some fabric scissors I cut out all of that trim now to attach it I'm using this ironon heat and bond product I cut long strips out of this that will fit under the back of the wavy pattern all you do is iron it on let it cool and then peel off that paper backing then I lined up my trim with the edge of the pink curtains and then ironed it on one more time to bond it permanently so we made four of these curtain panels which cost us $144 to do but to buy four of the panels of our key designer curtains that would have cost us $46 $8 so I think we did a pretty good job okay I need to still judge these so nobody judge yet they're not done nobody judge yet but I am loving them and also when it's not like golden afternoon we're going to get the whole effect but anyways let's do the last thing and normally like we preach hanging your curtains as high as you can which is why this side might feel a little lower but we were battling with windows that were uneven so the choice was have half of them high half of them short I think this I think we made the right call but it's looking like one long well and the plan is to never raise this blind above the pole it's an illusion so it's illusion baby okay yes we have everyone's favorite paper pendant but this is a different take yeah it's oval squashy that's not really donut it's donut M so we already have a sticky hook here on the ceiling do you have the little wait you need the little thing this it's like a cord secure plus hook hole in one so yeah you kind of go into this part and then that just goes on your little hook and it's renter friendly so we got to use the sticky hook like did we address the fact that you don't need the curtains here cuz we have the blinds yeah they're aesthetic they're they're aesthetic only hope that's okay with everybody they're doing a dang good job being aesthetic hey much better yes much that's to excellent work okay looking good on the right track finish it tomorrow reveal tomorrow I think it's time to go home what a good [Music] idea okay so shelves and more shelves it's a shelfie day this is where the maximalism comes in because we got to put stuff on the Shelf you know oh nice perfect clearance for the curtain I know it's like we planned it we did a little curved [Music] end this little thing is called a glue bot and we love it because it's an easy way to transport wood glue on the go and it lets you apply it vertically without having to tip it upside down we're going to link this and as well as these brackets cuz these are great for this floating shelf effect um in the description [Music] below so as much as me relle and Becky want to come to your house and give you a makeover but we know that's just not possible but we can teach you how to do a room makeover the exact way we do it and on your own schedule and your own pace our interior design course teaches you how to complete a room makeover including budget templates and how to schedule how to shop and the student favorite how to find your own style and we just lowered the cost of our course to make it even more accessible so you can find the link to that in the description down below you can sign up there and we can't wait to see the spaces that you create yes please send us pics all the PS well what do we think stunning stunning this uh really changed the space M just wait till we style it like the maximalism is we're we're it's coming maximalism doesn't happen on just be walls bare walls you might need some shelving but also I've never seen a maximal space without a gallery wall so let's do it so we started to assemble the gallery wall but then realized because of this style all the colors relate to other colors and we kind of need to know what we're doing for the whole room for it to make sense so we're just going to start styling right now Ann left us this like Decor bucket of things and candles and books and these are my favorite kind of people to do rooms for like we didn't have to Thrift like anything outside of yes this blanket Thrift find beautiful cobalt blue wool blanket yeah and then this duvet color which this is my favorite color right now it looks so good this is taken over Orange in my life I don't know what it is but but it's wait sorry did we just hear this here first Becky's a green girl now I'm of this very specific old you think of like gross shed carpet color green yeah in the most respectful way an this is what it reminds me of all I'm hearing is Becky's a green girl and we're here for it and also you guys just aren't ready for the green makeover that I have coming up is it a lot of green it's going to be the most green [Music] ever should we just start putting stuff we just have to play [Music] what I thought that this was a framed Crystal the whole time it's a mashed potato and wherever you are if this goes missing no she's Irish it's for the Irish head I'm a quarter Irish I a quarter deserve this where's your accent ston in Bey this looks so good oh my God I know right holy crap so one of the things that she had put on her kind of mood board was MH you know like the bookshelf lamps that are really trendy yes but there was some more modern takes on them which I loved cuz I had never seen that before and I thought that we could find a way to DIY dup it and we did so I started with this magazine holder and this light cord from Ikea the magazine holder seemed like a really good idea because sizewise you can see it fits really well with other books problem is it's upside down normally so we'll need to solve that I also had first thought that the hole that was already in the magazine holder would be the perfect size to put a light bulb in and although it did fit it didn't sit the way I really wanted it to so instead I took the whole thing apart and I'm going to use a hole saw to drill out a bigger hole I'm using a 2-in hole saw you can get this at any hardware store and it just goes in a regular drill just go slowly and make sure you clamp your piece down and this should cut a hole no problem so after that was done I just reassembled the whole thing the way it was meant to go together but before I sna that shorter side in I'm going to fix the height issue this magazine file actually comes as a set of two which is perfect for this Ikea Hack because I'm going to steal the top plate from the second one and slide it in the side of the first one then when you flip it upside down it should stand fully level and kind of look like a book from the front lastly take that first bottom piece and snap that in place so that we cover the hole that's at the top now that it's looking good I hit the whole thing with a glossy red spray [Music] paint once that was dry I just sandwiched the hole with the light cord and my light bulb of choice and it's done okay let's see it oh yeah oh my God I love it's so fun and how much was that $35 to make we estimated 400 to buy a new or over 400 at least win that was a win it looks amazing everyone should make it it's so good this one is like the most Ikea hacky thing I feel like I've done in a while but once you sandwich it with books like it looks just like our inso between this and the bed the ik hack in this room unbelievable unbelievable now I want like five of these yeah I know cuz one lying down sideways too would also be F Vibe I know stop it stop it's fresh [Music] now she made this so funny are you kidding me I want one I'm commissioning one immediately I wonder if she like looked in looked in no I'm like she what do you mean like oh like like you make a mold and then you pour why mold is the word I was looking for I don't think she did but this is insane anyways I also have a vision for this vase cuz like it's beautiful yeah brings our colors but I was like what if it has bling like it's kind of like a little moment yeah I love it I love it is that a Vibe yeah the zigzag lamps were definitely on the mood board and this one was only $5 on Marketplace would you believe it I would oh this piece of art fits so perfectly in this SP and that's because we custom designed it Jules on our team is a super talented artist and graphic designer and wanted to contribute to the space and she did such a fantastic job with this if you'd like a copy of of this piece for yourself this is available on our website as a part of our downloadable and print it-yourself art collection and it's linked [Music] below ooh I like it does potato go there any potato wait there's a joke here there's a joke here hot potato pass it on with all that styling done let's pull the space together you know what time it is what time Becky it's Final Touch time you change me for the you change me change me for the [Music] change change change so before we bring back in let's see how we did at duping our key designer pieces yes if we were to buy all of these pieces new it would have cost us $593 but by thrifting and diying we spent only $51 so that means we have a grand total Savings of $4,590 that's not gr math that's just regular math there's nothing left to say except let's bring in an oh my God I'm so excited I can't wait for her to see it and cozy eyes oh my God okay you know the drill I don't know why it smells so good does it does it it smells like paint and fresh we've been working hard yeah we haven't working hard okay remember your old space it was just like a blank apartment didn't represent you at all in my opinion so we took all your hopes and dreams and vision for this space and I really hope that we did it justice go ahead and open your eyes oh my goodness it looks so good I love it oh my God it looks amazing all my knickknacks thank goodness you had all those because you don't build eclectic maximalism overnight like this was only possible because you had so many special pieces I'm obsessed the bed it's amazing Rashi she nailed the vision 100% everything just looks so good together like all the colors are just I just love it all together the curtain yeah I love the wave and the lamp yeah from the Moon board we found lamp wow on the P I want to steal that it's so cute it's like your little Shrine I know I love it and the mirror is like my Nickelodeon dreams 16-year-old an would be dying it's so special we honestly had so much fun doing this makeover for Ann and we
