evening everyone glad to see you appreciate your presence as our custom is we'll be open up with the word of prayer and then we'll get started because he brings that word to us that we can solely concentrate on that and learn and we pray lord that we'll be diligent in our studies but we'll take the things that we hear here tonight and study them and read thy word and get it planted deeply in our hearts that we may take it with us each and every day that we may know the things that you desire us to know that we may know how to live and we may know how to tell others why we live the way we live thank you lord for the many blessings you bestow upon us daily we thank you for our health and the many many other blessings that we get daily there's so many that we can't count them but we pray lord for the many of our number they're sick at this time that you continue to be with them and we know lord that you know their illness and we know that you know what they need to return to good health and we just ask lord that you be with those that are caring for them that they get the right proper treatment to bring them back to better health and keep them healthy that they may be back with us soon and we pray lord for any of our number that may be traveling at this time and away from us that you continue to be with them and bring them back here safe and sound again that we can also worship and study together with them thank you lord for all the blessings you bestow upon us each and every day and we pray lord you continue to be with the many people that have gone through the storms in the days past and to have lost homes and the powers out and the many other issues that go with these storms and the devastation that it brings we pray lord that you be with them and we pray for those that are helping them that they soon get the necessary things they need for each daily life the way to live the water the places to sleep and the safety and we pray lord should be with them that they be returned to a normal type of life soon be with us and guide us through this study in jesus name we pray amen from the book of john on wednesday nights the theme of john is jesus and he's portrayed to be the son of god this also allows us to see jesus interact with people on a personal level and really this account of the life of christ is universal in scope be in chapter 2 tonight there's a outline up there on the powerpoint we would entitle this chapter by means of a chapter heading temple cleansing but there are three main parts to the chapter and it's again up there on the powerpoint if we could we'd like some participation and help in reading as we just go through this chapter and try to get a good understanding of what's going on the first 12 verses of john chapter 2 are about the first sign recall there are two main ways that jesus is proven to be the son of god in the book of john those seven signs those seven demonstrations of miraculous activity and then the seven i am statements but in john 2 verses 1 through 12 this is the first sign and it establishes that jesus is lord over the laws of nature in verses one through five jesus here attended a marriage someone read verses one and two out loud for us and let's look at these good job sir thank you very much notice verse number one it says and the third day that seems to go back to john and verse john 1 rather in verse number 43 it was the third day from the last day mentioned which john 1 43 says the day following then john 2 and verse 1 says and the third day so it would have to be the third day from the last day mentioned the third day there was a marriage that's just a generic term but from the bible's perspective a lawful marriage is one eligible and qualified man and one eligible and qualified woman in cana of galilee cana was a town or a city in the region perhaps we should say the province the northern area there of the land of palestine and galilee and the mother of jesus was there verse two and both jesus was called perhaps the ideas invited and his disciples to the marriage so observe that jesus was no hermit jesus was socially mature jesus increased in wisdom and in stature and in favor with god and man remember there's how we really develop as human beings wisdom that's your intellect stature that's your physical body in favor with god that's your spiritual life and in favor with man what's that that's your social life so jesus was socially mature and just from an application standpoint don't you think that jesus ought to be the guest of honor at every marriage perhaps there would be less foolishness that went on at marriages if jesus were the honored guest at every marriage someone else if you would please read verses three through five and let's observe here a conversation between jesus and mary good job sir thank you very much observe here when they wanted wine the first and foremost thing to know about the word wine in the bible is what that's exactly right now we're applying and what happens is sometimes we have a tendency to apply a 21st century english definition to a bible word does that seem wise does that really just before we even go any further is that wise let me give you an illustration that's not in the text if you were to take a merriam-webster's dictionary and looked up the word baptism what do you think you're going to find you know what you're going to find you're going to find that sprinkling and pouring are acceptable modes for baptism in 21st century english so therefore what do many people do they use that definition to the ancient text of the bible and that is exceedingly unwise because the bible word the greek word used the corner greek word used for baptism means what it means a merc so that's key number one as is the case with any other word in any other language context has to determine whether this wine is fermented an alcoholic or whether it is what we might consider fresh grape juice so what's the issue here's a marriage in cane of galilee jesus is there when they wanted wine it appears that they ran out the mother of jesus saith unto him jesus they have no wine jesus saith unto her woman is that disrespectful see there's a good example where if we try and voiced 21st century meanings of you know phrases and words onto the ancient text of the bible we're going to get in trouble so this is not cold this is not callous there's nothing disrespectful in christ's words at all woman what have i to do with thee mine hour has not yet come what does that mean seems to me to mean that he understood he was sent here to do a work and his will jesus's will was to obey the will of his father in heaven now that doesn't mean he was disrespectful toward his mother but she was not the one who dictated when he did what anything really he's a grown man at this point so mine hour has not yet come meaning when it's time for me to do what my father sent me to do i'll do it because he'll let me know verse 5. now here's some wisdom on the part of mary his mother saith unto the servants remember this from a few weeks ago whatsoever he saith unto you what that's a very powerful application wouldn't you say now what is it in the context there's going to be a miracle worked at a marriage in cana of galilee but from an application standpoint does that not have application to really every aspect of our lives how does jesus speak to you and me does jesus speak to you and me yes by the written words of the bible specifically the new testament so whatsoever jesus says in the new testament what do we need to do do it if it applies to us how do we need to act do it now we've seen the marriage the setting here in verses one to five then in six through twelve of john two here we're going to see the miracle the first sign is the water to whine in verses six through ten someone read that out loud john 2 verses 6 through 10 for us now was good job thank you very much few noteworthy observations number one beer is not wine even from our 21st century uses of those words liquor is not wine is it now far too many attempt to take christ's beautiful miracle and warp it into something perverted that was never intended let's leave the text of john chapter 2 just for a moment and if we need much participation as possible let's look up these verses and see if we can draw a correct conclusion here someone find galatians four and verse four someone else find these two verses because they they're connected first corinthians 14 21 and isaiah 28 11. so somebody find those two verses first corinthians 14 21 and isaiah 28 11. someone else find habakkuk 2 in verse 15 and someone else find first peter 2 and verse 22. so have galatians 4 4 then someone else find these two first corinthians 14 21 and isaiah 28 11. a third person habakkuk 2 15 and the fourth person first peter 2 22. now we're going to make this statement as an absolute fact and we've taught this since almost the time we've been here it is impossible it is not possible based on the scriptures that we're going to look at for jesus have made well over 100 gallons of fermented alcoholic wine we've taught that since we've been here studied it backwards and forwards had people question us on it and the text holds true now what does galatians 4 and verse 4 say what law is under consideration there the law of moses now what books of the old testament comprise the law of moses it appears that some have become duped into thinking that genesis exodus leviticus numbers and deuteronomy is the sum total of the law of moses and that's simply false the law of moses was genesis through malachi now let's establish that what about first corinthians 14 21 and isaiah 28 11. what about those two passages now that's first corinthians 14 21. what are the first few words read that again renard in the law it is written where is it written in the law the answer is isaiah 28 11. what does it say do we see the point so it appears that the prophets were also part of what the law of moses so the law of moses is not just genesis exodus leviticus numbers and deuteronomy what is the law of moses it's the entire old testament from genesis to malachi do we agree to that or paul's wrong what law was isaiah 28 11. if it's not part of the law of moses what law is it is it part of the law of patriarchy you only got three religions in all the history of the world that are authorized by god what are they patriarchal law then what the law of moses and then what the gospel of jesus christ so what where does isaiah fall the laws of patriarchy it's impossible the gospel it's impossible what's the only answer left that's part of the law of moses now what about habakkuk 2 and verse 15. oops if jesus made over a hundred gallons of fermented alcoholic wine then what scripture if nothing else would he have broken since he lived and died under the law of moses habakkuk 2 15. did jesus break any law what does first peter 2 22 say so what must be the conclusion bingo there's no other conclusion based on the totality of scripture that makes any sense now how people refuse to see that i don't know i don't understand why have you ever drunk wine fermented alcoholic wine i've had a mouthful of fermented alcoholic wine once that it's rotten it tastes rotten it smells rotten it's horrible not proud of it but that's the truth how people sit around and drink fermented alcoholic wine is above me i don't understand i don't get it beer is not wine liquor is not wine okay even from our modern day usage of the terms is it even possible based on the totality of scripture that jesus made fermented and alcoholic wine at this marriage in cana of galilee are you ashamed is it possible no sir it's not possible are we ashamed of that are we afraid to teach that i've been questioned on that here multiple times and when we go through those same scriptures what must be the conclusion bingo now look back at the text verse number six and there were set six water pots of stone after the manner of the purifying of the jews two or three ferkins a piece you do a little bit of the math you run it down you can probably see those things and from the way we express liquid volume this is over a hundred gallons that's hitting you know a pitcher full and sitting a bottle full this is over 100 gallons of this liquid beverage jesus saith unto them fill the water pots with water what did mary say whatever he tells you to do that's what you need to do so how did they react and they filled them up to the brim verse number eight he saith unto them draw out now and bear or take it unto the governor the master of the feast whatever what did they what did mary say whatever he tells you to do do it what'd they do and they bury it now i want to notice once you notice something with here when the ruler of the governor of the feast tasted the water that was made wine how do you explain that what natural process is there for that do you have a stone water pot somewhere that i can pour water in and draw out wine whatever you want wine to be so there is no natural explanation for this so what is it it's a miracle this is a sign when the ruler of the feast had tasted the water that was made wine and knew not whence it was but the servants which drew the water knew the governor of the feast called the bridegroom and saith unto him every man at the beginning does set forth what the good tasting stuff right and when men now notice the language of the bible does it say when men are well drunk what does it say have well drunk so how do how must we understand well drunk there they're ain't thirsty no more they're satiated they've had their feel right if i take you out to eat and you well eat tonight what does that mean you've eaten to your field so what does well drunk mean here they had consumed to their field they were satiated okay notice it doesn't say they are well drunk as in intoxicated when they have well drunk then that which is worse but thou has kept the good wine until now what do you notice about that if he was sloshed out of his mind drunk you reckon he could taste the difference between the good and the bad he could taste the difference in what jesus made couldn't he what does that tell us that man was as sober as you and i are right now at least me i hope you are i'm stoned sober what are you i would suspect you're stoned sober too right indeed now i want to make an application here i want you to observe the high quality of christ's miraculous work could the man taste the difference in the water that was made wine jesus doesn't halfway do anything now think about his providential workings jesus isn't going to work a miracle in my life for yours but in his providential dealings you reckon he does things halfway jesus don't we sing a song or used to jesus doeth all things well is that true even if it's not a miracle does jesus still do with all things well yes indeed so notice the high quality of christ's miraculous work and his providential workings are also exceedingly abundant and overflowing now notice here in verses 11 and 12 the results read those verses john 2 11 and 12 4. good thank you very much some of our religious friends want to want us to believe that jesus worked miracles when he was a little boy that somebody threw a mud pie at him and then he you know zapped them with electricity out of his fingers or something what does the bible say in verse 11 look at the language of the bible this beginning what does that mean this was the first miracle that jesus of nazareth ever did so far as once the word was made flesh now we already studied in chapter one in the beginning was the word the word was with god the word was god the father planned the plan the holy spirit revealed the plan on the pages of inspiration but who's the one that actually implemented the plan jesus so when jesus formed the world and all things therein in six literal 24-hour days that was by means of a miracle right so this beginning of miracles has to do with him being made flesh had jesus ever worked a miracle in flesh before this time this marriage in canaan of galilee no this beginning of miracles did jesus wear and cane of galilee and manifested forth his glory what type of glory did he have the glory as of the only begotten of the father full of what grace and truth we studied that right and his disciples believed on him they recognized this is not natural no matter what those stone water pots were you don't pour water into something and draw out wine whatever you want wine to be after this now notice here's one way to if we wanted to nitpick the bible this would be one simple way to do it and after this he went down to capernaum now wait a minute think about that how do you go down to capernaum because the bible geography is correct that's one simple way that if the bible were not inspired you could look at that and say that's false but guess what it's true after this he went down to capernaum he and his mother and his brethren and his disciples they continued their what what does that mean not many days means they didn't stay long right that's exactly right so anybody have any questions about this first sign the water being turned into wine we speaking the same thing about this are we we'll get it huh all right just giving that opportunity now the second part of the chapter is the first cleansing of the temple in verses 13 through 17. this shows jesus's boldness he was unafraid he was willing to make a stand in a tough situation verses 13 through 16 we see the cleansing notice verse number 13 where we're introduced here at least in the book of john to the jewish passover john 2 and verse 13 says and the jews passover was at hand what does that hand mean there near to come remember how we can tie this with the book of revelation what does that hand mean in the book of revelation why would it be different okay the jews passover was at hand and jesus went up to jerusalem there it is again if we wanted to nitpick the bible we could say oh that's false you know no matter about where you were to get to jerusalem you always went up because geographically that was accurate they say it's the city set on seven hills so no matter which way you went you went down to go up to the city of jerusalem now you may want to write down deuteronomy 16 and verse 16 jewish males were required to observe at least three feasts annually that is under the law of moses that would be the feast of unleavened bread the passover really was the beginning of that and it appears by this time they looked at the passover and the feast of unleavened bread is all one thing but technically they were two different things the feast of pentecost which is what it's known as in the new testament if you search through the old testament it's known as the feast of first fruits or the feast of weeks that's all pentecost and then the feast of tabernacles or the feast of booths or the feast of end gathering you may see it called various things like that especially throughout the old testament so that's given us a rough time frame of what's going on now notice verses 14 through 16 and let's observe the condition here the temple read that for us john 2 verses 14-16 good thank you question if anybody else in the world does this would this be considered a loving action because if jesus does it and you already read first peter 2 22 who did no sin that means everything that jesus did was motivated he had the right motivation he had the right attitude was this sinful well we'd have to answer that how no why why would we have to say it simple because jesus did it right but if we put anybody else's name there then there's the question what really was their motivation welcome to humanity because if we try to take a stand you know what people are going to say you're not loving you can't do that that's mean is this mean what did look back verse 14 and found in the temple that is in this general area those that sold oxen and sheep and doves and the changes of money sitting in my mind this gives me like the idea of a carnival doesn't it you here's the temple in jerusalem the representative place dwelling place that is of god and what you have here it's like a barnyard that also lets us see that we can misuse sacred things and it's possible to misuse things in sacred places now what did the lord do in verse number 15 when he made a scourge what's the idea of a scourge it's probably like a whip of some sort he drove them all out of the temple and the sheep what had they done they needed to get gone and the oxen what have they been they needed to get gone this was not the place for a carnival type atmosphere was it especially for jews under the law of moses at one of the great feast days periods of time perhaps we should say and poured out the changers money and overthrew the tables how do you overthrow a table if i were to grab one of these little pews right here and overthrow it what would that look like would i grab an hole to it flip it over what would you think if i went over there and started flipping pews now the ones that are bolted to the floor i might get more in a bargain for with that i don't know if these are or not they might be i'm not gonna flip over anything well what would you think if i started doing that one over there started just kicking things over huh thought i was mad was jesus upset i'd have to say the answer to that is yes indeed he was upset was this sinful absolutely no it was not somebody should have already done this who did it jesus is the one who did it who should have done it pretty much anybody else that was there how did the priest allow this to happen you know you go back to the old testament you'll see like priests like people when priests tolerated it what do you think the people did they didn't try to do any better they said if he's gonna let me offer a three-legged lamb i'm gonna bring a three-legged lamb if he's gonna let me bring something up here that's had an eye gorged out i'm going to bring that right why wouldn't i the answer is god doesn't want that god had a system of checks and balances under the law of moses that if the people tried to bring this the priest should have said take that back home malachi told him go offer that to your governor see how well that happens would the governor accept that probably not but if the priests were going to allow it the people should have said wait a minute we don't want to treat our god like this but when the priest tolerated it look what happened notice what he said in verse 16 and said unto them that soul doves take these things hence get this foolishness out of here make not here's a key phrase my father's house whose house was that temple gods what does that say about jesus what is the implicit imp what is the implication when jesus said my father's house that he had some kind of kinship with the father right there's another subtle way that jesus himself affirms what he's deity he is divine take these things hence make not my father's house and house of merchandise you know religion made easy always causes problems and you know the deceptive nature of sin is that the jews especially here in the first century they thought all this was okay how did jesus react to this and by the way this is not the only time he did it this is the first temple cleansing towards the end of his public ministry what did he do in matthew 21 and other places did essentially the same thing again so at the beginning towards the beginning and towards the end of his public ministry he went and cleaned the temple i wonder what that would look like you notice how nobody is there any indication from the text that somebody is going to stand up to him not one lick of indication that anybody was going to try and stand up to him they knew he meant business but they also knew what he's right it shouldn't be like this but who's the one that had the courage the boldness to stand up and say clean this mess up get this out of here who's the one that did it jesus notice also verse number 17 because here's the confirmation and watch this notice verse 17 and his disciples his disciplined followers remembered that it was written the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up can you see something important there that seems to be what we what we call psalm 69 and verse number nine okay it appears that these fellows had memorized that scripture did they really know when they memorized that scripture that the fulfillment of it was jesus cleansing the temple i submit to you no they didn't know that but i see a big lesson there to you i see this even when we don't know the direct meaning or application of a scripture it's still good to memorize that scripture isn't it because sometimes it may rattle around in our minds and may rattle around in our minds and then what happens we get it it clicks now it's not going to be that we see jesus go cleanse the temple but sometimes would it be good for us to memorize first peter 3 21 would it would it be good for us to memorize that passage you could pick any other one i'm just naming off scriptures why would it be good to have that rattling around in our minds because if we know the words of scripture we're going to probably have a much better chance of knowing the meaning of that scripture true if we know the words of the scripture might that help us to know the meaning and the application of that scripture yes or no who can quote first peter 3 21. well if you can't quote it you may turn to it read it right you don't have to but just for example that's one i think that we can all somewhat relate to as members of the church can't we the like figure where unto even baptism doth also now save us what do you mean peter not the putting away of the filth of the flesh but the answer of a good conscience toward god by the resurrection of jesus christ what does that passage mean well we may say i don't know what it means memorize those words in that order and think about that meditate on that the like figure if you read the new king james what does it say anti-type there is an anti-type however it's worth it the like figure where unto what saves us it doesn't say water doesn't it says baptism right but what baptism must be under consideration there's one lord one faith one baptism what is that one baptism that remains hope everyone sees the point i'm trying to make is that if we'll know the words of the scripture there are other things that might come up we say there it is i get it i understand what that passage means so what look back at it john 2 17 and his disciples remember can you remember what you hadn't put in your mind you don't get it by inspiration you know how you get it in 21st century perspiration you're gonna have to sweat we'll have to spend some time in the text and his disciples remembered that it was written the zeal of thine house has eaten me up notice it psalm 69 verse 9 truth is valuable even though we may not fully understand it in the beginning put that word in your heart think on it see where you can connect it with other like passages and watch the bible come alive watch it make more sense than it ever has in all your life third part of the chapter is the results in jerusalem in verses 18 through 25 and this allows us to see the deep compassion and love of christ for all mankind verses 18 through 22 here we're going to see the demands of the jews and notice verse number 18 then answered the jews by and large at least in the book of john when you read the jews what does that mean by and large that's the unbelieving antagonistic jews usually the jewish religious leaders then answered the jews and said unto him what signs show us thou unto us seeing that thou doest these things now if they had been a little bit more open-minded two marks of where christ's authority came from were already shown where did he get the ability to turn that water into wine you reckon he got that from the devil well of course not of course not and then what did he say there at the first temple cleansing take these things hence make not what if they had thought about that statement they would have known where his authority came from and they'd have known he's already given us a sign true then answered the jews and said unto him what sign show us thou unto us saying that thou doest these things in other words there's a subtle attack in his authority who do you think you are when they looked at jesus what did they see they saw a 30-something year old jewish male where did he get the authority to do this where'd john the baptist get his authority to go out and immerse people in the jordan river he got from god someone read verses 19 through 22 and notice the confusion here that is the confusion of the temples under consideration good thank you very much now their demand for a sign prompted jesus to do what he foretold of something what did he foretell do you see it what'd he foretell not only his death but also his what his resurrection now the temple in jerusalem was first established by solomon in approximately 960 bc what the babylonians do to that temple burn it up then zerubbabel and others finished rebuilding the temple about 516 bc but the occasion under consideration in the text they said 40 in six years that's just for one part it probably took about 80 but the herod's of the first century took the temple area and they really formed it into a more of a big complex than it ever really had been jesus in verse 19 answered now what's the question what sign show us thou unto us sing that thou doest these things jesus answered and said unto them destroy this temple and in three days i will raise it up now again he says temple and he's no you're in and around the area of jerusalem what would you think but notice then said the jews 40 and 6 years probably more like at least 80 was this temple in building and will thou rear it up or raise it up in three days so they weren't trying to see beyond again it kind of gives the idea of like parables what did parables do they revealed the truth but they also did what concealed the truth from those who didn't want to see it but the holy spirit tells us what was jesus talking about he wasn't talking about that literal temple there what was he talking about there's no doubt that he spake of the temple of his body there's plain truth and then notice verse 22 this is kind of obviously this gives us some insight as to when john was inspired to write in the fact that he wasn't necessarily writing everything down as it happened when therefore he was risen from the dead so the book of john was written at least after what jesus's death burial and resurrection but there's other indicators obviously he was ascended up on into heaven too when therefore he jesus was risen from the dead his disciples what now this may have been by miraculous inspiration they were given a promise as we'll see later on it'll take weeks for us to get there but that the holy spirit would guide them into all truth and bring all things to your remembrance whatsoever i have said unto you they didn't have to have necessarily memory problems when they were inspired now does that mean you and i are going to be inspired so how are we going to get it no i'm going to get it by inspiration we're going to get it by perspiration we're going to sweat spend time in the text when therefore verse 22 he was risen from the dead his disciples remembered that he had said this unto them and they believed the scripture what scripture probably those that promised them apostolic inspiration right they understood and the word which jesus had said wouldn't that prick your heart that'd allow you to know that hey man of everything we've seen for the past three three and a half years including his death his burial his resurrection is ascension did he tell the truth the whole time indeed he did verses 23 to 25 here we're going to see a demonstration of power notice verse number 23 many believe the miracles now when he was in jerusalem at the passover in the feast day many believed in his name when when they saw they observed they witnessed what the miracles or the signs the visible dis visible demonstrations of miraculous power which he did so here's an irrefutable purpose behind signs wonders mighty deeds miracles what why did jesus do this to cause men to believe in him now miracles were not just to heal people were they there are at least four four broad purposes to miracles creation incarnation revelation and confirmation really the last two come into play to reveal jesus as the son of god signs miracles but also to confirm jesus as the son of god the lamb of god which taketh away the sin of the world and someone read verses 24 and 25 and we're out of time but we got time for that man good thank you jesus didn't have to stand up and flat out say hey put a spotlight on me i'm the messiah i'm the christ he's giving them evidence to make it plain that if they would pause long enough and think about how is this happening who is this guy really let's go back and search the scriptures and see what we know it taught about the coming messiah and let's examine the life of this guy wouldn't that be reasonable would that would that be reasonable why didn't they do that on the whole why didn't they do that i don't know the dying answer that either there's really not a good answer is there application why do we not study the bible more than what we do why do we not try and see the the impact that it can have in our lives if we'll read this and understand it and apply it why don't we do any better age old question isn't it just keeps and here we are there's nothing new under the sun is there what if we were there by and large what category would we have fallen in we probably i'd probably questioned too and said this guy who is he look at him look at his dad so to speak his mom i mean this guy then you read on in the text of john neither did his brethren believe in him it seems that his half brothers and probably his half sisters how'd they feel about him at least for a period of time they went what jesus the messiah the lamb of god which taketh the way of the world why i changed his diapers right you know there's people that had to feel that way right how would we feel if something like that happened today but the evidence was there wasn't notice verse 25 and needed not that then he should testify man he didn't need any help he'd handle it and he did handle it then it tells his wife or he knew what was in man what does that say there's another subtle way to show that jesus is divine that he's god because only the lord only jehovah has the capability to see the innermost workings of a man who knows your heart you know your heart who else if you don't tell them nobody knows who can see into our thoughts our minds our hearts everywhere all the time the answer to that is god who's jesus if he is the great heart knower who is jesus really he's god he's a member of the godhead well we're way over as usual not bad only three minutes today that's that's pretty reason i was only three minutes late would that be bad if i go three minutes over that's still reason any questions comments anything i hope we speak the same thing about john chapter 2 especially the wine part i hope we can really understand that and that no matter whether we're here there wherever we're not ashamed of of what the bible teaches we're not ashamed of our lord but we also need to have reasons as to why we believe what we believe and be able to say look just look at these passages and what must be the conclusion anything everybody okay all right let's pray our kind merciful gracious and loving heavenly father hallowed be thy name and great thy lord father so thankful unto thee for this day we're thankful for the rain we're thankful for life health and strength we're thankful for the bible we're thankful for john chapter 2 that we can read it and understand it like that father we don't need to be ashamed of the things that are truth and the things that are contained in scripture and help us to be reasonable help us to be bold help us to realize that if we'll get the whole picture as best as we can we'll be able to explain these things to anyone who might ask us a reason of the hope that is in us but we'll give that answer with meekness and fear forgive us all as we meet our conditions of pardon these things we ask in jesus name amen evening everyone glad to well-doing help us to grow in our love to increase and abound in our love one toward another and toward all men help us to appreciate one another help us to be thankful for every person that's here father we beseech thee now on behalf of liberty liberty kivit who's home not feeling well a little bit under the weather we pray that whatever's going on it'll be minor it'll be not long lasting it'll be something that she can overcome and feel better soon we miss liberty when we don't see her as we miss everyone when they're not here for whatever reason it might be father help us to continue standing fast in the faith help us to earnestly contend for the faith which was once for all time delivered unto the saints help us to not yield to the left hand or to the right hand help us not to be ashamed help us not to be afraid may we come in contact with the honest and good hearts who are seeking the truth and father help us to be able to sit down in a reasonable rational way and to show any person anywhere the truth of the scriptures forgive us all as we meet thy conditions of pardon these things we ask in jesus name amen let me in john chapter 2 let's pick up in verse number 18 quickly jesus had already done his first miracle in cana of galilee he's cleansed the temple for the first time towards here the beginning of his public ministry verse 18 of john 2 says then answered the jews by and large that means the antagonistic unbelieving jews and said unto him what sign what miracle who who do you think you are what signs show us thou unto us seeing that thou doest these things as if he hadn't already given some evidence verse number 19 jesus answered and said unto them he said what he said but they misunderstood what he said destroy this temple and in three days i will raise it up he said temple they say he must be talking about the temple here in jerusalem this literal building then said the jews 40 in six years that's a kind of a low number was this temple in building and we'll thou rear it up in three days but notice the holy spirit tells us the truth of what jesus was talking about but he spake of the temple of his body do you know really the event that our faith hinges on it is wonderful that jesus lived without sin it is wonderful that he died as the sinless lamb of god they buried him in a tomb sealed by his enemies but really the thing on every that our entire faith our entire conviction hinges upon is did jesus christ resurrect from the dead how does the bible answer that question the answer is yes absolutely what does that mean that he really died he died on calvary's cruel cross why did he die he didn't die because he was a thief or a busy body or a murderer or any such like he gave his life willingly as a ransom for whosoever will why did he come back out of that tomb he came out because he loves you and he loves me now in view of christ's great love for us how do we need to respond to that love how do we need to respond to the fact that jesus is alive that we serve a living savior how do we become a christian hear the gospel acts 18 8 believe the gospel acts 16 31 repent of sin acts 17 30. confess jesus christ to be the son of god acts 8 37 and be immersed in water for the remission of sins acts 2 38 there's how we need to respond there's how we need to respond to christ's great love for us that's how we become a christian that's how the blood of jesus christ washes away the spiritual consequences of all our past sins that's where the lord himself adds us to the body of christ which is the church of christ now that we've been raised up to walk in newness of life once we've been buried with christ and baptism it's time to behave as a christian how are we supposed to behave it's implied in the term christian isn't it we're supposed to act like christ how many times did he sin according to first peter 2 22 who did no sin neither was guile in his mouth no deceit no trickery no falsehood there's the goal and a worthy goal it is but what's the reality we're going to sin as christians what does god expect of christians who sin acts 8 22 repent therefore this thy wickedness and pray god if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven him wherever you are make it right do it now as together we stand in this together we sing the song of encouragement [Music] tears [Music] jesus nothing but the blood of jesus [Music] [Applause] is makes me nothing but the blood of the jesus of it jesus me let us pray heavenly father we humbly access release from this place but not from your presence guide us and protect us delivered from all hurt harm and danger seen and unseen and god would be so very careful to give your name to honor the glory they give you all the praise this is our prayer in jesus name amen
