A special guest comes to visit - Part 1

well greetings people of the internet hunky joe here on key joe's playhouse today we have a special guest joining us in unki joe's playhouse but who could it be [Music] so for those of you that have watched this channel for any length of time you understand that unki joe sometimes has an obsession with gaming which is really really odd considering the fact that i'm really not much of a gamer i mean if sorry i had to fix the wire i'm not much of a gamer i'm more of the nintendo style gamer you know the maybe playing monopoly kind of that thing uh super mario kart mario world that kind of thing so i'm not a real big shooter fanboy or anything like that the other thing i like to play as far as games go is is any kind of simulation like flight simulator there's a farm simulator i've never played railroad simulators sim earth you get the idea which is what attracted me to minecraft now i've had nephews come up over the years and they'd they'll come and stay with us and hang with us and and one of my nephews in particular had an obsession with minecraft he just loved it from the time he was about oh i don't know 10 or 11 on up into his early teens you know then they discover girls and suddenly games aren't so important but i digress he was obsessed with minecraft and it got me kind of looking at it so here i am in my older age trying to figure out something to keep me amused and entertained and i ran across across minecraft and revisited it and i decided i wanted to put my own server in place to host minecraft part of it was the appeal of the game itself and the other appeal was the behind the scenes i love tinkering with the hardware now what i don't like doing is waste putting a lot of effort into something and wasting a lot of time on it so i reached out into the discord community and into my subscriber base and said any i asked anybody that wanted to help me set up my minecraft server uh step forward let me know and we could we could do uh you know do something together and uh there's i have a great community of subs out there i just want to blow you all kisses because every time i have a question about something i don't know you're always kind to this old man and you uh you help me through things and so i had a gentleman reach out to me his name is andy and he's with minecraft hosting and uh he got me set up and so what i'd like to do is uh i've done an interview with him and i'm going to promote his service here on uncle joe's playhouse because i believe he offers a good quality product so let's go meet andy right now so today we're here we have a special visitor here with us today and it's uh andy from a company called mind stone hosting uh i met andy he's been a subscriber and a viewer of the channel for a long time and and he heard i was interested in setting up a minecraft server and he reached out to me uh andy welcome uh to the show glad to have you here uh uh you wanna tell us a little bit about yourself and and your company uh mind stone hosting what you offer for folks mindstone hosting um is a company that has been uh that is specializing in server hosting specifically um we mostly um are on minecraft hosting as you know but we do other things as well which we'll get into later in the video so i guess my first question for you is when and why did you decide to start uh mine stone hosting what was your what was your reason behind it well to be honest with you joe i don't know the specifics of the dates that we started mindstone hosting but i think it was back in 2018 and she started mindstone hosting because i wanted to get into the ins and outs of how hosting works getting to the back end really get really get to know how this uh part of business life uh is doing so uh yeah here we are cool yeah i always find the the back end is the most interesting part you know i was i've been playing around for years with like web hosting and to me the most important or the most interesting part is what goes on in the back and what people don't see i started out like everyone else does with um you know just hosting once you get into it it gets all you know it's it's complicated it just continues on well and just just so we're clear about things uh like i said earlier in the intro that andy reached out to me and without his help i wouldn't have been able to even get it up and running locally i knew a little bit of stuff but we he helped me initially get it set up on my own server as well uh tel tell the folks uh what kind of uh i know you offer minecraft hosting but are there other games that you that you host for for those that are not familiar yeah if you guys like playing things like rust um seven days to die which other examples of survival games that you might play we do offer game server hosting for them games specifically on steam okay and is it only game hosting you're offering are you are you looking to offer web hosting in the future maybe database hosting something like that or we we do offer dedicated server hosting if you want that okay you can rent a dedicated server from us and you can also write vps's virtual oh perfect yeah those those come in handy yes they do especially if you want to get into the back end like i did so well that leads to my next question so what are you what are you using for your uh for for your hosting and for your infrastructure on the backend if you if you don't mind sharing that with us absolutely um as you know in cujo we recently went through an upgrade and upgraded to the ryzen 5 5600x yes 4.7 gigahertz i was drooling i would love to get my hands on one of those yeah we run on um a ssd um so you get really fast world loading and uh yeah you get full access to all of that um and a gigabit internet so could you give us a little bit more information on what uh what is running underneath everything like are you running ubuntu servers or we are specifically running upon two servers the latest version of ubuntu obviously for security updates and stuff like that um we mostly do all our work through the panel um but i have a lot of experience with linux and how to operate within linux so uh that's what we're running on the back end oh yeah and i've seen you work your keyboard magic on linux so uh yeah i know that's i know that's a speciality you have uh so let me ask do you offer i'm a neophyte when it comes to minecraft and game hosting you know i'm an old guy and i'm learning new tricks and and you gave me really good great support and from the front so is that the kind of support you offer to your to your clients and and do you offer personalized support like you gave for me you know where you you help them configure it soup to nuts that kind of thing yeah absolutely we offer so much support all our support is dealt with tickets within discord if you want me to set up for example if you want me to set you up before minecraft server with modded vanilla paper all of that stuff we can do that for you we're not going to sit down obviously create you a server like hypixel you know the big servers out there but we can definitely set you up with the basics and then help you along the way if you need it yeah i know when you when you helped me get mine set up you were extremely helpful with the plug-ins explained them completely to me um and that was that's a you know because you have all that when you first enter any new projects you're always kind of uh you cut on edge i don't want to do it the wrong way waste a bunch of time and have to redo it and frankly you saved me a lot of time because it's what you don't know that kicks your rear end you saved me a lot of time and said ah you may not want to go down that route because and here is why so i have to give you kudos for that i know you've given me excellent support on it um what about assisting people with uh like setting up the dns and uh you know some people don't want an ip address exposed they want to go through like a domain name for their hosting can you can you assist with that we can help you with dns and domain um redirecting um but what we prefer is to set you up with cloudflare rather than other any other hosts because um cloudflare makes it very easy so if you're not using cloudflare we may not be able to give you the support you may need but if you are we can definitely have you uh we can explain to you how to set all that up yeah and that that would be a no-brainer so you know it's been my experience when you go with a third with another company and they recommend a third party go with them you're just going to be happier in the long run um but you know if people i guess want to do their own dns like this idiot behind the microphone they could do it so but it was a learning process i'll tell you uh and i would have domains making it easier for you to put friends and people to remember instead of having to title all the numbers yeah well and the other benefit i guess is if you get ddosed or something like that uh in the future it makes it easier just to move an ip when it's pointing to a domain name instead so yeah absolutely uh let's see uh so let me ask you why look i'm an old guy i've hosted my own mail servers i've hosted my own web servers as you know i when i started i wanted to host my minecraft server and i and i did uh and again thanks for the help in setting that up so what what are the benefits of going with a hosting company as opposed to doing your own well uh the first and most formal is that you're less likely to be attacked um there was a lot of there's a lot of problems with hosting at home for example uh these are just a few you can you can get um denial of service attack um people can track you especially if you're giving out your public ip address a lot of people make the mistakes of thinking going behind the domain will protect you but no people can easily find your ip address through a domain you also get the support as well um from minestone hosting that can help you set up your minecraft server which you will not get if you're setting up at home um and you get the speed and reliability and the uptime yeah and those are you know if you're gonna run a minecraft server those are or any kind of gaming server or any server for that matter uh the support is what you get when you pay for hosting it's what i've found um and you i can attest to people that you give excellent support you've been great holding my hand through this uh and helping me get it to get it all set up in fact we just uh we did multi what did we do the other day set up on there multiverse so like it's a multi-mc uh no it was multiverse you're right sorry so we can do more reverse which allows you to create multiple wheels you know and import multiple worlds yep and you know so i'm it's it's worth every penny you pay which brings me next to the next question is what kind of pricing are people looking at and what kind of uptime guarantees do you give uh and well and how do they get support if they do have a problem well let me answer the last question um the support is very simple all you need to do is join our discord and you will submit a ticket there and a support team member will answer you as soon as possible which is normally very quick really depends on the obviously time zones and stuff like that pricing um you're looking at um 2 2 2 a gig um so for one gig it's two dollars two gigs it's four three eight eight four it's twelve blah blah blah continues on all the prices are listed in the information page on my discord and what was your last question um uh uptime guarantees do you do you offer any like an sla or anything or is it just you know hey we're up times uh well well you especially you uncle joe you would know that the uptimes are very good um we really minimalized downtime no one likes downtime no one um especially in this business downtime is a no-brainer right whenever we need to do any maintenance we announce it to the discord and let everyone know that this is the time this is how long it's going to take and we will let you all know when it's back up and running yeah and i just have to share with folks that i've had zero trouble with your hosting service it was uh it was very easy to set up very easy you did help me part of the way but you you also made me do some of the work myself so i'd get a feel for how it's done uh it was not overly complicated or scary or anything like that and i'm quite happy with the results um yeah what i was going to say is there are two different type of people out there i've explained this to you before um there are the people that want to learn then there are people that i just want it done for them right and you service both of those people or both of those type or both of those groups of people i should say yeah now i'll make sure we post your webs a link to your website which you prefer to go through discord um but uh you i noticed you also have a website out there a small one so i'll post both of those links in the uh about section under the video here uh when we're done so that everybody has access to that and then i'd like to just let everybody know we're going to be doing a part two of this video with mind stone hosting where we're you're going to actually see my minecraft server and how it's set up and we'll it'll be in the back of your mind all the time so every morning when i'd get up the first thing i do is did the did the minecraft server crash overnight did it do i need to do any of it and so with moving it to mind stone hosting it's giving me kind of peace of mind it's one less server i have to have up and running here uh and i know i'm in good hands with andy so andy thanks for joining us i i
