yeah welcome to maui so maui is known for its gold sand beaches you know great snorkeling swimming sea turtles but there's like a whole nother side of maui that you haven't experienced and i don't think a trip to maui's complete unless you do hi i'm jordan and i'm erica and this is the hawaii vacation guide erica and i love farm tours it's such a nice way to get henry out there in nature and figure out where his food comes from and coming out of covid hawaii and especially maui is looking at agriculture to create a regenerative tourism it's a great way to make locals and visitors happy yeah and it gives visitors a really interesting perspective away from the beaches and the snorkeling you usually see things that you don't normally see back home and doing a farm tour is a wonderful way to support small local business a lot of these farms are small locally owned businesses they're really expensive to operate and so farm tours help supplement their income while they're getting off the ground plus it's a great way to connect with local farmers and see something you wouldn't normally see back home all right so we'll give you a taste of some of our favorite tours a quick tour on the island on farm tours there's kuya chocolate estate this is cool because you can see where the cacao is growing and then go to a factory tour and then making the chocolate and then end with the chocolate tasting tour and this is all maui growing chocolate or they have really unique stuff like wild chocolate from ecuador it's so unique another really cool tour that we've done is the maui gold pineapple tour we were a little bit skeptical at first of this tour because you get driven around in a shuttle bus but it's actually wonderful you get to get off a lot you eat a ton of pineapple you learn how it's grown you see the factory it was a wonderful wonderful morning out this one is it up country it's o.o farms they're linked to the pacific o restaurant which is in lahaina a lot of the food for that restaurant comes from old farms what's fun about this farm tour it is actually farm to table so you walk the farm you can pick citrus off the tree and eat it you can pick your own salad and eat it and then you have a professional chef serve you this amazing multi-course meal and if you are curious about coconuts and the cultural significance and how they are used in everyday life that is what a tour to punakea palms is good for this is a farm in lahaina that teaches you all about coconuts and we even learned how to make coconut milk which we do at home now surfing goat dairy it is an upcountry we like to play with the baby goats you can feed the actual goats and you can do a tour of the dairy to see how the goat cheese amazed and don't worry it comes with tastings also we have a full list of our 15 favorite farm chores down in the description below this is a special vlog today it went over two days because we had so much fun touring these farms we're gonna head up to upcountry show you some amazing farms before we go my 299 slippers were not cutting it so we had to go pick up some new fresh fly comfy shoes from olukai thank you to oolukai for supporting our channel look at that open meal that's great this pregnant lady is very happy you are gonna love that i'm gonna love it yes just slowly slip it on easy you know this is the mioli these are really good for what we're doing today you can just be strolling the beach stroll the boardwalk here like a nepali or you can go get on some trails get dirty get a little red dirt on them too so that's what they're made for are they good for piggyback rides huh oh thank you so nice these are cool i think they are you see how we soak on the bottom of these yeah cool right so a portion of all proceeds from any of your purchases are donated to the olokai foundation and this foundation was set up to preserve the heritage culture and traditions of hawaii and the aloha spirit okay now that we have our olokai's we are heading to upcountry and we are going to visit some farms today first up the maui v farm bees we're at maui b's right now in upcountry and mark is going to come and show us around so come along for the journey [Music] going in the bee museum right now oh look at that holy cow wow two bee hives in here look at that look at that little a little bee tunnel they go out on that is super cool this is this is honey up here and this is the broodness this is where the queen lays the egg so these are all workers and the workers live six weeks queens live two to five years if you look at the bees in this area you'll see they're doing these funny little wagtail dances on national geographic yeah so they're telling they're recruiting bees around them telling them where to go to get the nectar if they do the wagtail straight up that means you fly toward the sun straight down and be away from the sun and ending angle left or right would be the compass you know relative to the sun there's so much and then it's the length of the wagon is how far you go no way what a wild beehive looks like with these cones right this is what winnie the pooh would go grab put his hand in there and grab some money out of there this frame here it is completely full is six pounds and for each pound so divide that into six for each pound it's three to nine million flower visits and it's about 25 000 miles of collective flight so maui b's at 2 500 feet up in kula and he's got a beautiful panoramic view you can see both sides what's that called you get the double ocean view real estate agents love that up here buy coastal these guys buy coastal view up here come and enjoy it maui bees offers two tours one is a regenerative farming tour where mark works on how they farm this eco-friendly how it makes it like the future of farming pulling carbon out of the atmosphere and storing it long-term in the ground so when you don't till you actually help the biology by not disrupting it number two is really popular tour is this hands-on honeybee tour where people kind of lose your fear of honeybees you can reach into the hive grab some honey tasty you can be like winnie the pooh come on you want to do that right that's why you're coming to maui can you do that anywhere else i don't know maybe but you might as well do it on maui they do farm-to-table dinners here also right there that's all from the farm here from the garden for the most part for the most part yes either from us or from neighboring up country organic farms so that's a vegetarian chili and i'll show you what we want what we want our honey to look like is this oh that's good we specifically crystallize it at this temperature takes three days at 58 degrees wow to crystallize very quickly and it creates a very smooth creamy delicious stable product so we don't have to heat you know where your milk comes from henry no see this look that's an udder and the milk is in there they call them teats and you squeeze them and the milk squirts out you just blow your mind henry howie bees has a farm stem that's right behind me and they have chef ryan that cooks up a lot of good stuff like we got come back on friday when they got the buttermilk biscuits we opened seven days a week fresh produce plus a bunch of honey of course kombucha and a lot of other good stuff too henry who's the dog named after we need to poop my favorite thing about going on farm tours is the eating this is winter and this is eucalyptus and this is the summer and this is what is christmas beer christmas berry that's funny christmas very in the summer and that's why it's different do you want some what do you think five thumbs ups that's the highest compliment yeah so next we are heading to kula country farms with our honey and we're gonna go check out the pumpkin patch for that guy on to the next one this is kula country farm it's just around the road from maui bees this is a nice easy one to stop at if you're just heading up to haleakala for the day like come over here there's a great fruit stand this place is known for two things first of all is a spring strawberry patch the strawberry patch is on from february to may you can pick your own strawberries and yes february counts as springtime on maui take that punxsutawney phil and during october they have the pumpkin patch and that's why we're here today to pick up a pumpkin because it's pretty stinking cute it's amazing it's pretty cool so hula country farms founded by the morden ohana four generations ago and they're doing a bang-up job with this place use your good picking powers that's a big one yeah it looks pretty good just smiling make a smile okay farm number three stay with us folks ulu palakua ranch store this is a cattle farm it's been around for over a hundred years the ranch store has excellent food all the food like the burgers you get here is cattle that was raised here on the farm this maui upcountry farm that's what makes it so good even the produce is either from this farm or locally sourced here on maui so that's why we're here get some food [Music] look at those buddy girls i would love to i gotta admit too the mac and cheese looks really good look at that that's a good piece of beef right there huh lulu palakura ranch store is right above wailea mckenna so when you look on the map you're like oh i can easily get there but you gotta go all the way around the mountain so that's why if you're doing all country day kind of like just drive all the way down until you hit this place it's well worth it because you got maui cross street so you can do some wine tasting do a nice little tour they got pretty garden we're going to show you one more place if you can't make it to upcountry then maybe you can make it to this one all right let's go follow me buddy there we go we don't usually do this but you got lucky this is a two-day vlog because we just got so excited to show you we just want to show you as much as possible and i got a minute we're coming down haleakala yesterday we ran out of time we missed the four o'clock train our pregnant mommy and our three-year-old were doing great but you know what maybe i just got a little tired all right so we didn't make it here in time so we're at maui tropical plantation right now we're going to go on a train ride and we're going to show you why this is such a cool place to do it during covet maui tropical plantation closed indefinitely and so they brought it back summer of 2021 and we are going to walk into the country market and that is a collaboration between kumu farms and oma coffee roasters and they have a lot of fresh produce that's grown right here on maui and on molokai so let's go check it out one thing i'm really impressed by and i didn't expect to see this here but come on over they feature all of these products from different local producers all in one place so like the sugar beach bake shop um holly off the creamery over there we saw kuya estate chocolates like the aloha raw produce it's it's a really good place to get kind of like be able to get everything without going to the individual places sweet potato chips grown here a scone and fish and duck food let's go use it so hitting up all these maui farms can be a big day we're doing this a lot in a day and a half wouldn't recommend that that would get exhausting i recommend is a good itinerary is try to do like two farm tours maybe just two right head up to up country hit up two of them we have a list of all of our favorite farm tours down in the description below these are like good local farm tours these are legit farmers making it happen putting out local produce on the islands plus they get very fascinating interesting tours so check those out another good way to do it is if you're heading up to haleakala national park for the day do a little hiking stop on a farm tour on the way up on the way down to grab some food that's a fun way to do it too henry hey you ready for a train ride yeah all right we signed up for the tram henry loves these little train rides around the area learn about the farm learn about the area it's about 40 45 minutes should be a fun time [Applause] [Music] do [Music] we liked it because half of it you're actually off of it doing the coconut husking and then you're just like learning about cool stuff around hawaii and all the vegetation things that they go around here and then they can drop you off at the gift store which is usually kind of tacky but this is a great gift stop because it's the country market thank you oh thank you that's what she needed you didn't know we had hattie with us did you so here we are we are having lunch at cafe olay this is a family owned restaurant they have four locations on the island it is delicious and we are really excited to be hitting up this location when you're making your maui itinerary put farm tours on there click the link in the description below for two things one is a list of our favorite local farm tours these are all the best local farmers on the island number two olukai thank you so much olokai for sponsoring this video click the link in the description below for their commerce store you're going to love their shoes i have had a very comfortable day in mine i know and we're linking the exact shoes that we got because these are great
