hey guys and gals and welcome to another classic hardcore guide today we're going over the professions available to you and what you'll need to know about how the hardcore challenge affects them we'll be covering everything from notable trainer recipes easily obtained world recipes as well as some general knowledge and tricks to help you along remember you're not choosing a profession based on what you can do with that at the end game you're choosing a profession based on how it can help you level once you've decided on a profession take some time looking at what the profession can make using a database as stated before my general overview guide many of the items i draw from mobs are used in various professions and will be useful to you later on so have a good general knowledge of any items you may want to keep in the bank for future use like gems pearls things or various meats for cooking as always i'll have data pulled straight from the game with my opinions thrown in here or there i'll have time stamps below so you can jump around and i'll link to the written guide as well so let's jump in everyone can agree that bandages are important whether you're playing hardcore or not but how many of you actually took the time to learn anti-venom when you were loving your first couple characters when classic launched in hardcore poisons can throw a wrench into your plans so be sure to pick it up if you can't cleanse poisons as part of your class kit it can be trained at 80 first aid and only requires one small venom sac to produce three anti-venom which remove poisons up to level 25. you can find small venom sacks from the level 12 to 20 spiders in silver pine stone talon loch madan and from the pygmy venom web and venomous spiders located in duskwood later on down the line if you get lucky with world drops you can pick up the manual for strong antivenom which removes poisons up to level 35 requiring 130 first aid and uses one large venom sac for three strong antivenom found off spiders and scorpids levels 21-36 now i know you've probably never asked this question but i'm going to give you the answer anyways what do the levels mean on the antivenoms what constitutes a poison up to level 25 for the anti-venom or 35 for the strong anti-venom simply put it refers to the level of the ability used to poison you it does not mean that if a mob is above level 25 then you need to use the strong anti-venom to remove the poison similar to how you have level requirements for your abilities npcs have the same and frankly there are very few poisons in the game that require strong anti-venom to remove and only two in the game that require powerful anti-venom made at 300 first aid so the stock anti-venom will last you most of the journey it won't be until you start hitting the late 40s early 50s that you'll need strong antivenom to remove certain poisons free food stamina spirit puffs what's not to love about cooking how often have you finished a fight under five percent health how often do you die to a mob that you just need one more hit to kill in hardcore you want as much survivability as possible so why not capitalize on buff food as low as 50 cooking and level 5 you can start getting an additional forced dam that's 40 health that could easily save your life in the lower levels horde players have easy access this with strider stew top from a recipe that can be purchased from tariqa the trade supplies vendor located in the crossroads which is easy to stock up on ingredients seeing as there are multiple quests that have you killing straighters in the barons anyways alliance players can pick up coyote steak topped by your trainer and gortas liverpai taught from a recipe that can be purchased from kendor kabanka the master of cooking recipes located in stormwind or from the gore test liverpike quest in westfall both of these recipes require ingredients that can be farmed from the mobs located in the westfall and night elves who don't want to make the long journey swimming over to westfall can pick up bullet clams taught from your trainer just spend some time killing surf crawlers along the dark shore shorelines for small barnacle clams in the early 20s you can start making the sixth stamina spirit food with murloc fin soup at 90 cooking and red rich goulash at 100 cooking for the alliance crispy lizard tail had 100 cooking for the horde and big bear steak available 110 cooking available to both factions both murloc fin soup and red ridge galosh whose ingredients are all collected within the red ridge mountains are obtained via quest in red ridge or can be bought again from kendo kendora kabanka in stormwind crispy lizard tail is available from tarika and the crossroads again and the big bear steak recipe can be bought from oldhand over at mistral lake in asheville for the alliance or for completing the rescue quest over in hillsbrad foothills for the horde players the big bear meet needed drops exclusively from all bears in asheville and hillsborough foothills at level 30 you can start making the 8th stamina spirit food with soothing turtle bisque requiring 175 cooking and level 25 to eat available with horde and alliance players via quest and hillsborough foothills spend some time hanging around the river in hillsbrad or move up to the southeastern side of lord amer lake and alterac to farm up plenty of turtle meat and make some extra money with the turkey's liquid avenger drops now while there are other recipes that give eight stamina to spirit that only require level 20 each the ingredients for these are far off or require killing much higher level mobs for example alliance players can attain the tasty lion steak recipe which only requires level 20 to eat but the quest to obtain the recipe is in hill's bread foothills and requires you to kill level 30 to 34 mobs horde players have a similar issue with heavy croc lists too the recipe can be buttoned dust wallow and eaten at level 20 but the ingredients dropped from 30 plus crockless in dust wallow and stv the 20 to 26 crockless over in the wetlands dropped the meat needed but are you really going to try to get the wetlands as a level 20 something hardcore horde player lastly you can start getting the 12 stamina spirit buff at level 35 with only 200 cooking skill the easiest recipes with the lowest level mobs to grind for your ingredients is the spider sausage recipe taught by your trainer requiring two white spider meat easily obtained from farnam the 35 to 39 spiders in dust bowl of marsh and heavy kodo stew recipe which can be bought in dustless and requires two heavy cotton meat easily farmed from the 35 to 39 kodos at dakota graveyard in desolace in addition to the stamped spirit box you get from cooking your own meals there are other various buffs and unique items cooking can provide sage fish greater sage fish and knife and snapper can be fished up and turned into mp5 buff food at 80 175 and 250 cooking skills respectively sunscale salmon can be turned into poached sunscale salmon at 260 cooking skill for a nice hp5 buff and remember these mp5 and hp5 buffs affect your in combat regen not your out the winter season is approaching and starting in late september you can find winter squid for the grilled squid recipe the only agility buff food in the game available at 240 cooking skill dragon breath chili is available at 200 cooking skill and is a great addition to any melee character for the added damage as you release your inner dragon spewing forth flames hitting all mobs in front of you [Music] rogues who took herbalism will be absolutely delighted that you can craft your own thistle tea the recipe is given to you for completing the poison's class quest and only requires 60 cooking herbalists can also cook up their own level 25 water in the form of gold thorn tea you get this recipe in razorfin downs so if you decide to brave this dungeon make sure you've trained expert cooking past 150. when you go into the instance take the left path in the beginning then work your way to the very end towards the holding pens you'll be able to knock down the walls and then speak to henry stern he'll ask you if you want to learn a recipe say yes and it'll automatically teach you the gorthorn tea recipe one other thing of note with cooking most of the recipes will turn a profit if you actually cook up the ingredients instead of just vendoring them raw unfortunately recipes requiring anything you fish up aren't really worth it as you'll only profit a few copper per item or in some cases lose money but most meat based recipes are a very viable way to make some extra coin especially if they don't require any spices besides gathering fish for cooking fishing is useful for so many other things you can get supplies for other professions armor and weapons potions gems and even bags so let's go over everything you'll need to know as a hardcore player about fishing and its rewards if you've taken up engineering fishing can be a major boon in the form of venture company crates there are four types of crates you can get and each of them contains a small number of engineering components depending on the crate level the level also indicates the approximate level range of the zone where you'll likely fish these up they can be fished up randomly and you don't need to fish them from a pool but they must be fished up from the sea you cannot get these from inland fishing like crates trunks can be fished up and contain everything from bolts of cloth leathers potions gems and many other items unlike crates though they have to be fished out of fishing pools each of the pools listed below has an 85 chance to obtain the fish indicated by the name of the pool and a 5 chance to catch a trunk the level the trunk is similar to the crates as they will have a chance to drop from fishing pools in the appropriately leveled areas there are also special fishing pools called floating debris and floating wreckage all floating debris can only spawn the lowest level trunk and rum while floating wreckage pools can contain any of the trunks available depending on the area you fish in so for example fishing wreckage pools in the barrens can net you either the level 15 or 25 trunks while fishing in teneris can net you any of the four trunks available fishing in these pools provides the following a 60 chance of a trunk a 20 chance of one to three strangle kelp and a 20 chance of a rum consolation price the rum consolation price can also appear inside of the trunks there are three types of rum that can be attained and each of the level trunks has a specific rum that can be found inside so what's inside the trunks the tightly sealed trunks can contain bolts of linen cloth bolts of wool and cloth light leather medium leather lesser healing potions and minor mana potions you also have a small chance of assorted low level recipes white or green gear with required levels between 6 and 15 and 8 slot bags and the rum associated with this is always the rumsy rum light the watertight trunk contains bolts of woolen cloth bolts of silk cloth medium leather heavy leather healing potions and lesser mana potions you also have a small chance of getting masa gates lesser moon stones or green gear with required levels between 16 and 25 or 10 slot bags and the rum associated with this chest is always the rumsy rum dark the ironbound trunk contains bolts of silk cloth bolts of mage weave cloth heavy leather thick leather greater healing potions and mana potions you also have a small chance of citrines jades and green gear with required levels between 26 and 35 or a 12 slot bag and the rum associated with this chest is always the rumsey run black label the mithril bound trunk contains bolts of magewave bolts of room cloth thick leather rugged leather superior healing potions and greater mana potions and you have a small chance for aquamarines citrines star rubies as well as green gear and weapons with required levels between 35 and 46 as well as 14 slot bags they also throw in the occasional recipe every now and then too and the realm associated with this chest is again always the rumsy run black label one additional thing about trunks each of the items listed as possible rewards are not percentage based it's possible to attain almost every item listed in a single trunk there are plenty of rare and awesome items that can be attained through fishing such as the one ring this dlcl crush fish and the rockheid strong fish both one handed maces that look like fish i mean come on who doesn't want to kill something by slapping it really hard with a fish other various items of weapons can be caught but there's honestly too much to try to list here did you know you can raise your cooking and fishing skill at the same time from 1 to 150 just sitting in a major city at level 10 horde can do this without ever leaving thunderbluff or undercity and alliance can do something similar in stormwind with the exception of running out to gold shire once for a recipe here's how it works for alliance players run out to gold shark and buy the recipe for brilliant small fish and long jaw mud snapper from theron bowden the trade supplies vendor then run into stormwind and go to the small dock opposite the stock gates where the fishing trainer is and buy the recipe for bristle whisper catfish and a couple shiny bobbles from catherine leland the fishing supplier apply the bobble and start fishing the docks for horde players go to thunder bluff and buy the recipes for britain's small fish bristle wizard catfish and a couple shiny bobbles from say well misrunner the fishing supplier then head over to nala misrunner the cooking supplier and buy the recipe for long john mud snapper both are located on the third tier of thunder bluff then head to the small pool of water by the auction house apply the bobble and start fishing or in undercity go pick up the recipe for brilliant small fish long jaw mud snapper and a couple shiny bobbles from elizabeth cromwell the fishing supplier located on the outside river in the magic quarter then head to the center and pick up the recipe for bristol whistler catfish from ronald birch the cooking supplier apply the bobble and start fishing in the green water note that doing this in undercity will take a bit more fishing to gather everything for cooking as you have a good chance to catch other items such as sickly looking fish and old skulls the first few skills will be tough as you really should have 60 plus fishing skills successfully fish in the city but just push through you can sit here and fish all the way up to 150 skill then simply cook the fish you caught starting with a small brilliant up 2 or in past 50. then cook as many mud snappers as you have hopefully this will bring you past 100 then finish off with a catfish and don't forget to train cooking once you pass 50. i can't tell you how many times i've started cooking up the snappers and then walked away to do something completely cooking all my snappers without ever going past 75 skill doing it this way you'll most likely get more mud snappers than the other two and you may need to spend more time fishing in order to catch more fish for cooking congratulations you're now 150 fishing and cooking this can all be done within about an hour and at level 10. if you're going to do this at level 20 plus make sure you grab the books needed to progress past 150 afterwards you can head over to booty bay and pick up expert fishing the bass in you from old man hemming and you might as well pick up the recipes from mithril head trout and fillet of red gill while you're here if you'd like to continue leveling your cooking via fishing they can be bought from kelsey yance located in the large building at the end of the ship dock in booty bay enter the building and make an immediate left for alliance players you'll need to head to missile lake and asheville for your exit cookbook while horror players will need to head down to shadow parade village and death list to grab theirs let's start with probably the most useful profession for wanting classes and most useless profession overall in the hardcore challenge because the higher level enchanting recipes require rods made from blacksmiths enchanting isn't viable as a solo player while you could train blacksmithing up to 100 and make a silver rod then drop it for enchanting this will only allow you to go up to 115 changing skill and the enchants available at that level don't provide enough stats for this to be a viable support if you're looking for stat increases you're much better off going with alchemy where enchanting shines though is the ability to help wanting classes glide through their first 25 levels with ease in the form of lesser magic and greater magic wands after you've obtained the wands feel free to drop in chanting for something else so let's go over a step by step to help you make these wands in the most efficient way possible this step is optional if you plan on gathering the cloth naturally as you go i'd highly suggest pick up skinning first to help establish some early money for bags but if you're going straight for cloth farming you can ignore this step train tailoring and enchanting gather linen cloth and make 30 to 33 bolts of linen cloth this should take you to 30 tailing if you don't hit 30 craft more bolts until you do train brown and linen robes and tailoring and make as many as you can they require three bolts and a coarse thread each disenchant all the brown linen robes you just made this will take you above the 10 enchanting skill needed for the lesser magic wand but you'll need all the dust and essences you can get in a bit hopefully you get one essence for the wand if not it can be bought from the enchanting supplies vendor create a groon copper rod the materials can be bought from the enchanting supplies vendor located next to the trainers in every city train lesser magic wand and go ahead and make it for your greater magic wand you'll basically be repeating these same steps gather linen cloth create bolts craft brown linen and ropes and disenchant them your goal is to obtain enough enchanting skill by disenchanting the robes and enough dust and essence from those disenchants to reach 70 enchanting enchant bracer minor health will stay orange all the way up until 70 and only requires one dust make sure you take three lesser essences and turn them into a greater essence for your greater magic wand any additional lesser essences you obtain can be used to make additional lesser magic wands for skillups and to vendor on average you'll need to gather 150 additional linen cloth and craft 25 brown linen ropes sometimes more sometimes less as needed 25 is the average i found while testing this over 20 times this can be done now or as you level naturally remember you need level 13 for the greater magic wand so there's no rush to get it before then and there's no shame in not getting it until the 15 plus this wand will easily last you into your late 20s when upgrades become available you can actually keep enchanting for a bit just to make wands to vendor this is a very lucrative option to boost your early money game it's better to make greater wands over lesser since the greater ones sell for 14 silver and 97 copper when you factor in the cost of simple wood while lesser sell for four silver 73 copper each after buying simple wood since you need three lesser essence to make a greater essence for the greater wand you can look at it like this each lesser essence will net you a 4 silver 99 profit if you make the greater ones versus 4 silver 73 copper if you make the lesser ones and since you'll be starting to get green gear from quests and mob drops in the 10 to 20 zones you'll have plenty of extra stuff to disenchant the early level greens don't sell for much so the ability to turn a profit on them is quite nice and you can use the dust obtained to create minor wizard oils the recipe is sold by the enchanting supplies vendors in every major city and while you need to spend 2 silver for each maple seed needed you'll turn a 3 silver profit for every 2 dust you obtain overall it's a very viable way to make some early coin everybody already knows that double gathering serves as a great way to boost your income in the early middle and late levels of the game and even though you can't auction off items as a hardcore player selling leathers herbs and ores to vendors can still net you are pretty silver and is especially lucrative in the beginning a stack of ruined leather scraps sells for once over 40 copper while light leather sells for three silver stack both piece bloom and silver leaf have a price of two silver stack with earth through at four silver mining up copper ore and smelting into bars also runs juice over a stack by level 10 you could easily have four 8 slot bags the best white gear from vendors and some extra bags for your bank if you're proactive enough about gathering in a journey it's even possible to have the money needed for your mount at 40. while most people will take skinning and then choose between mining and herbalism which of the two you choose won't matter as much herbs are typically easier to gather and can net you a more consistent cash flow but mining can have bigger payouts in the form of the gems acquired from mighty nodes here's something a lot of people still don't know unlike the crafting professions needing level 5 to train in you can pick up the gathering professions at level 1. unfortunately while it was a thing on private servers in classic you can't actually skin any of the creatures in your starting area for early skill ups and money arguably the strongest profession to take for your hardcore run alchemy allows you to stay stocked up on not only health and mana potions negating the need to buy or find them but also many other beneficial offensive defensive and utility buffs imagine running around doing quests and grinding mobs while your active buff list looks like you're about to go into a raid constant hp5 extra health and armor stat increases water breathing and swim speed potions protection potions for those annoying elemental damage enemies and if you can get lucky with world drops on-demand sprints in the form of swiftness bushings alchemy can buffer provide utility in almost every situation in the game and unlike other professions you don't need to power level it a bit before you start seeing an effect its effects can be seen at the very beginning and every recipe from the trainer is useful to almost every class in addition to the amazing buff potential alchemy can allow you to complete certain quests for nice rewards so let's look at those now now there's no denying the demand for such a trinket in a hardcore run it's basically a get out of jail free card for anybody without a sprint mechanic the quest to obtain this awesome trinket is in the badlands as part of the chain you'll be required to turn in frost oils if you're not an alchemist you won't be able to obtain it the frost oil recipe can be brought from broken a goblin vendor located in alterac mountains just remember that the recipe is limited stock and has a few hour respawn one part of the elixir of agony chain requires you to turn in a strong troll's blood potion as well as other gathered materials you'll have to skip over the rest of the chain if you're not an alchemist arguably the longest chain of quests revolving around stone talent for the alliance requires decently early on four minor mana potions and two elixirs of fortitude the entire chain provides good experience and some nice chest options at the end but unless you have alchemy you won't be able to complete it the quest starts in asheville with on guard in stone town and then will take you into stonetalon after a few quests it will take you to westfall and back and then to ironforge here's where you'll need alchemy to progress considered by mostly the second strongest choice for hardcore runs engineering provides you with assortment of tools gadgets and other fun items to help you along the way the strongest of these being grenades and bombs for stuns or the target dummy for easy getaways just remember that the target dummies have a small effective range so when you throw it down you'll want to make sure it's as close to all the enemies your best bet is to throw it down right on top of you so all mobs in your melee range will be affected engineers can also make their own headgear in the form of goggles which don't have a level requirement only the engineering skill needed to make them this is especially useful early on when headgear quest rewards are few and far between it's actually possible to get your first set by level 10 to 12. can you imagine that a four stamina four spirit head piece at level 12. however there's a catch a lot of engineering recipes call for leather to be used and since you'll need mining for the orange stones you'll have to gather leather a different way a good suggestion is to start with mining and skinning and go up until you have a few stacks of light and medium leather in your bank you'll also be collecting a ton of oar and stone while doing this so you'll have a huge stockpile ready when you go to drop skinning for engineering then go fishing for the higher tier leather as you need it or you can just go fishing from the beginning as mentioned before crates provide engineering components and trunks can contain leathers hunters can find great use out of the profession as you can craft your own guns and ammo as well as scopes to increase your range damage and the added benefit of being able to stun enemies with a grenade if it gets too close can allow you to move past the yards needed to fire your ranged weapon again while there are a lot of fun toys to use in engineering be warned that some of them have dire kickbacks that could end your run prematurely rocket boots netamatics ultra safe transporters and other items have a chance to malfunction causing more harm than good and in some cases may straight up kill you so be careful if you find yourself in possession of these items or just don't use them horde plays with engineering will be able to complete the warsong lumber supplies quest in splinter tree posts as part of the quest requires you to turn in a deadly blunderblast made it 105 engineering skill this quest provides some great items that aren't replaced easily while there are plenty of quests out in the world that provide gear sometimes the time spent between getting those pieces can be quite a while or may not really be much of an upgrade enter tailoring leatherworking and blacksmithing since blacksmithing provides crafted gear weapons and a decent amount of utility items let's take a look at taylor and another working first as these two mainly provide craft gear with few utility options [Music] for cloth wearing classes tailoring is a great option as there are plenty of recipes that cater all the stats you want and the materials needed are very easy to obtain similar to alchemy most of the base trainer recipes have a good use and it provides some great gear from an early stage while cloth will be the primary focus of your material gathering most of the recipes only require additional vendor bot items to make as you start to get higher into the profession though leather will be required for a lot of recipes so skinning is a great addition to complement it this will also provide you with extra funds as you won't need every piece of leather you skin spider silk boots at 125 tailoring and robes of power at 190 tailoring are great pieces that can be easily obtained with a bit of grinding for the materials tailoring only offers one thing other than gear and cosmetics fortunately it's bags as you know bag space is extremely important to hardcore characters more backspace allows for more grinding gathering and general questing without the need to go back and sell so often and what better than to make your own instead of trying to go out and find them for leather and eventual male wearing classes leatherworking can also provide some great gear pieces in between quest rewards and in some cases the best gear you can get at that level like tailoring the materials needed are very easy to obtain and mess recipes only require vendor bot items barbaric bracers at 155 leatherworking gem studded leather belt at 185 leather working and shadow skin gloves at 200 leather working are all vendor bot recipes and great items that can be attained easily by hardcore players with a bit of grinding as for the utility side of leather working armor kits can be made to give extra armor to your chest gloves leg wear and boots consistently updating your armor kits with your new gear will help you with melee damage mitigation and can essentially be seen as wearing a few pieces of the next armor tier hunters also have extra utility and leather working as you can make your own ammo pouches and quivers not only increasing your ammo capacity but also increasing your range attack speed while blacksmithing can provide some great pieces of gear and weapons the amount of time and resources you'll have to put into it make it a daunting task to level even for non-hardcore characters you'll have to constantly stay on top of it and keep it leveled as much as possible if you want to see some benefit out of the profession just like tailoring and leatherworking most of the trainer recipes for armor require various mats that are easily obtained as long as you're willing to spend the time mining when we start looking at weapons though you'll need leathers gems and pearls as well the silver drawn pieces you can craft all have good strength stamina and spirit for the early 20s gear the boots and gauntlets at 130 and 135 blacksmithing respectively are from your trainer while the shoulders and chests at 125 and 130 blacksmithing respectively are unfortunately world drops the shiny and silver breastplate at 145 blacksmithing from your trainer is an excellent piece early on as well as for the utility options of blacksmithing you have sharpening and core stuns which increase your weapon damage and keys can be made to open lock chests while there are other things such as shield spikes iron counterweights and steel chains these recipes are world drops so rng will be a huge factor whether you can obtain them unfortunately blacksmithing has one huge flaw when it comes to being a viable profession for hardcore at some point early on in blacksmithing the demand for the different materials and the gear that can be crafted will start to paint an ugly picture you'll need to start gathering materials for crafting that are located in higher level zones or that you can't gather efficiently and when you can get to those zones and gather materials the gear you can craft from it will be under leveled from you and doesn't seem worth it this will mainly be a problem in the 25 to 40 range once you get past that though the crafted gear starts to line up a little better with the materials you'll have easier access to but not by much as was stating the beginning of my other guide your gear is going to be lower level than you however with the amount of time and energy you need to put into blacksmithing your time really could be spent elsewhere doing quest or grinding for boe drops so is it a bad profession no it's a great profession with a lot of options available but you really need to be aware of how much time you'll sync into blacksmithing if you choose to go in your hardcore run with it as i stated in the beginning you're looking to choose a profession based on how it can help you in your leveling journey and i hope this guide helped you learn some things and choose what's right for you thanks for watching i hope you all have blessed runs
