hi and welcome back in this video I'm going to be cutting a 20-sided die from a piece of uber light yuper light is a mineral that contains fluorescent sodalite it has a crazy orange fluorescent that makes it glow like cooling lava yuper light is found by taking advantage of its fluorescence reportedly you can go out on the shores on a dark night and use a UV flashlight to look for highlighted Stones this piece was found on the shore of Lake Superior [Music] you may notice my saw is a little small for a rock this size so I have to rotate the rock into the blade a little bit like this it's not ideal but it's a compromise that I make because I do all the processing of this dice making in my basement and the small room I have in means space is limited this means I have to compromise on things like this little tile saw [Music] foreign [Music] foreign [Music] a lot of people have asked how he can be so exact in the cutting and the Machine helps out a ton here the machine has a physical stop on it when I get to a set angle this is really good for rough grinding but for the finer stuff I use another feature on the machine I can set the machine so it beeps when it gets to a set angle this allows me to be very exact and get all of the facets to the same depth so the first main facets happen at 37.38 degrees so what I'll do oh set now when this is grinding down I'll be on here grinding down once it gets there it'll beep at me and I'll know him there so let's get started [Music] 600 right here all right [Music] [Music] thank you foreign what I got to do here is put some cerium oxide back in my little container I've got uh just water in here right now so I make a mixture of cerium oxide and water and that's what I put on I put that on the lap how much to put in here good question just put some in [Music] [Music] I've been making dice for about three years and as you could probably guess I'm making the same D20 over and over would get pretty stale so I'm always looking for different minerals to try and different ways to improve my process because ultimately that leads to new learning and that's where I find a lot of Joy I chose to cut Uber light because I haven't worked with it yet and I love to cut stuff that's fluorescent fluorescence adds complexity and a lot of character two sides light and dark when we sit around the kitchen table playing Dungeons and Dragons it's great to have a die that embodies our complex characters and lets us fully dive into them [Laughter] [Music] it's amazing to me that an unassuming Rock from the shore of Lake Superior can be picked up and crafted into something so fantastic it's cool to think that this is basically a local dye I mean it came from Lake Superior and that's something like 12 hours from my house but in the grand scheme of like where minerals come from that's pretty close so it's kind of like farm to table or maybe Shore to dice tray [Music] perfect for any character that works with fire a lot so maybe a wildfire Druid or your friendly Fireball happy wizard it would also make a great dive for a barbarian because this guy has two sides to it it's normal side but of the right circumstances it's a raging Barbarian with fire in their eyes [Music] [Laughter] [Music] thank you [Music] [Laughter] [Music] foreign
