hey there my name is pravis and welcome to Foundation this is a city Builder that just turned four years old and amazingly is still receiving updates from the developer which is pretty awesome yay verily as recently as this very month now Foundation is more on the chill side of city builders it's not quite the hardcore survival game you might be expecting from this channel but rather this is a game where you manage some very simple production chains and then you build up some awesome monuments and you'll let your kingdom grow in a beautiful organic and aesthetically pleasing nature it's actually probably one of my favorite things about this games it's not as micromanagement intensive but by the end of it you create some really awesome eye candy I'll show you what I'm talking about in a bit let's go ahead and start up a new game now one thing that was just added into the game is procedural map generation which is great something I think that was very much needed in this particular game um you know what I think I might just play with this river map right here I like that there's gonna be some islands in the middle here this can be kind of fun plus some big hills on the sides yeah this seems like a nice place to start let's go ahead and firm now I'm not gonna be playing with very many mods for this particular series we're gonna have just a house Edition Map which adds in some extra uh different models that's pretty much it though it's very very simple I'm not straying far from the vanilla experience and here we go now who needs advice not me I do not need advice do we dare start on an island that may not be the smartest of things it might make more sense to start up on the coast like right along over here we can quickly build out into these islands later on perfect let's go ahead and start right over here then so this is my starting territory we will be able to expand this over time the first thing we need to do is place down a Village Center and it's usually makes sense to place it kind of close to your stone and your Berry deposits so how about something like right here for example and boom there's 10 of our little villagers all ready to go the first thing we need to build is going to be a builder's Workshop right makes a lot of sense we need someone who can actually construct a few things for us so let's go ahead and place one of these and how about right over here we'll go ahead and build that at the cost of five Lumber while people are working on that actually we can go ahead and sign people right now now that I think about it while people are going to be working on that though let's go over here and start working on Gathering up some food and some other resources a gatherers Hut would make a lot of sense we can place one right over here berries are an infinite source of food they never really go away and this is where I'm saying that the game has a certain chill aspect it's not something you have to expand in order to survive but rather there's a proper way to play the game and there's a poor way to play the game and I'm hoping to show you the proper one anyway this is a good source of some food which we are going to need I also want to get myself a lumber Camp how about one right over here toward the center of town for now could be okay I'm probably gonna have a warehouse like right over here so let's actually set this up like this all right go ahead and build out the lumber camp and we will also build out a stone cutters Camp because I desperately am going to need all of these resources okay and if I just speed up time we should see in just a little bit that my people are going to get whatever resources they can from the builders workshop and get to work there they go finally all right so they're going to start working on all these structures let's say that the Gathering Hut and the lumber Camp are the top priorities because those are the key resources I need the most Lumber Camp is ready let's go ahead and assign a couple of workers now here's a fun thing about these workers right right now they're not going to do anything nothing at all because we haven't told them specifically where they need to extract resources for that we're gonna go to this painting map mode right here and we're gonna tell them it is A-Okay to start extracting all the trees over in this particular area clear this area out because I'm gonna have a lot of residential and stuff over here eventually anyway perfect so now they can do their work the same thing is true actually of the stone deposit we need to mark that for extraction and the same thing is true of the berries if you don't have anything uh marked then people simply aren't going to work there let's assign a couple of people to work on the gatherers Hut so now we are producing food and we're producing Lumber in just a little bit we will have access to the Stone Cutters Camp as well something I want to point out right away notice the pathing that is starting to form that's one of those little tiny details that makes this game pretty cool from an organic perspective people are gonna be walking around whatever their pathfinding is is where they start wearing out the grass so it all looks very natural it makes a lot of sense and I don't have to worry about building my own roads now other things that we are going to need will make sense to get some storage so how about a big honking Granary right over here next to where the berries are currently located something like this should be fine it's going to take some Stone which is going to take me a little time to get but that's completely fine we should also think about where we're going to have a residential area oh a couple of newcomers are already on the way and joining excellent that's more people I can tax and also more people I can put to work I'm thinking it makes sense to make this into an industrial area over here where I gather up a lot of resources and this into a big residential area down over this direction so I'm going to go ahead and start planning out where we're going to be placing some houses there's a few things that I'm going to want though a well makes a whole lot of sense it's going to make people get some water and it also kind of Crea increases the desirability of this area for a living space actually let's just try to build like right over or let's try building like right over here or something I'm gonna grab this territory in a bit anyway we'll do this there we go and the other thing that I need is going to be a market a market is where people are going to be able to actually buy the food that I am producing it also greatly increases the desirability of the region so you want to place it pretty much smack dab in the center of any of your residential neighborhoods there's our Granary let's assign one person to work here as a transporter assign berries as the primary resource for now we can store up to 400 in here we can actually store a lot more than that if I want to but I'll save these resource slots for something else a little bit later so let's suppose we want to place down a market stall somewhere over close to the well I'm gonna place the market let's say right here this is gonna be the Center Post now we have to choose its function it's not for free building with no functions this is specifically to place down Market stalls and get a market up and running so let's go ahead and click on that the only thing I'm able to really build right now is a single food stall that's fine that's all I need we'll go ahead and rotate it around what's have it somewhat close-ish to the well right over here is probably fine and for good measure do I want to go ahead and just buy another territory right now it should be free I can take let's say they're kind of split right along here huh I could take like let's say this territory right over here it actually has a lot more resources if I want it or I could go ahead and start working over here to the islands uh we'll get there later I guess let's go ahead and pick up this territory boom all right we get some more middle deposits if I want to set up another Village over in this direction I could there's even more stuff over here yeah we could have several big food and Industrial centers over here if I so desire but that's fine so there's the market stall let's go ahead and assign berries over here and one person to work here and bada boom We Now technically have a market it's stranded in the middle of the woods and feels kind of stupid but there it is don't worry we'll fix that soon so you might be wondering how do you how is your poor Widow peoplesh the answer is you don't do anything actually what you do is you just place down some simple residential zoning and they'll build their own houses so what I'm going to do now is just flag let's say this entire approximate area for now we'll do something kind of like this one big area right here and anywhere in this Zone they are welcome to take some of the wood from my stores and go ahead and build out their own homes which you can actually already see is starting to happen there's the blueprints for some housing over there there's blueprints for housing over here there's some more tucked in the woods over here yeah there you go actually one thing I'm going to do real quick is make sure that new one is allowed to build immediately on top of where I plan on having my market leave yourself some room to expand because eventually you're going to want to have a lot more stalls than this so let's try for something kind of like that and I'm gonna get rid of this house because it's kind of in the way while they're working on all this let me draw your attention to how you advance in the game which is the progression system based on your prosperity and the influence you have with several different Estates including labor the military and the clergy for now that we only have a Prosperity level of four if I click on this we can see what our common path is if we want to spend some money we can unlock let's say a warehouse could also unlock let's say the bailiff's office or the ability to build a wooden bridge as we gain more Prosperity getting up to 20 and then 50 and so on more all the way down to 200 even we'll get ourselves a whole load of other important buildings like fishing farming clothing all that stuff's important and then if we build up some really nice monuments to please the laborers the king and the clergy we can get more thing from here for example abilities get more decorations on your building increasing their functions getting you more influence and Splendor you can also get your things like the tavern or you can get some more tax policies Etc military buildings are kind of important luxury buildings produced by the monks yeah lots of good stuff you can do there for now we can only go down the common path but one thing I want to do very early on is get some Splendor in each of these categories so I'll have access to all of the different building types I do want to place down a warehouse though we had talked about that and now it makes sense to go ahead and do it we'll place it close to where the stone and the lumber is being dropped off right over here should be fine I think now I see this red circle saying it's going to reduce desirability by quite a lot maybe it would make more sense to try dropping it off a little bit further away from the housing because why make these people miserable am I right so right over here for example might be a better call although it also has occurred to me I can't really build up this Warehouse because first we need to get ourselves a sawmill I need to get myself planks so that's another thing we can place uh let's say right over here ish I can see where people work so maybe something kind of like this over here close where the warehouses closer wouldn't dropped off there's a sawmill go ahead and assign at least one Carpenter for now take some Lumber spits out planks get planks build a warehouse make everything more efficient I wouldn't mind placing down a Forester Camp kind of over in this general area as well this is a place where I can start planting down new trees so that as I clear stuff up we can keep things close to our lumber camp and what I might actually do now that I see how this is shaping up is kind of reserved this area for one big plot of trees that we just keep replanting and chopping down that way we have a nice degree of separation from the housing and all the industrial areas and it's kind a beautified and still very convenient in terms of its location to make that work let's go ahead and Mark this area right along here one big reforestation area oh and there we go we finally have a warehouse okay so let's go ahead and remove one Builder one thing that changed in the game that I don't really like is it's a little bit harder to actually assign workers and then remove them when I want to a simple plus or minus button here would have sufficed just fine why I have to go through here and individually tell people not to work there I don't know but all right um we'll assign one person here this is a good place to store some Lumber some Stone and some planks all that is good enough for the moment now a warehouse is an extremely important building for a number of reasons it's not just to store all of your goods it's also where a lot of your trade is going to take place from people who are going to start wandering across the map and may come by for a little bit of trading action so if we go over here to the book and then we go to our is it resources yes resources and trade routes we can spend 20 once he planks to unlock a trade route to northbury allied with the labor faction we do that and we can see exactly what they want to buy and what they are willing to sell notice how the houses are getting built over here and all the pathing that works between them I don't know I just think this is really kind of cool I can't think of any other city builders that really do this right it's always like oh here's this grid and place down your buildings as close together as possible and it ends up being a very I don't know square and I mean that in both a pun but also kind of figuratively since it's just not as fun Foundation somehow managed to strike a really good balance of creating natural fluid worlds I I keep geeking out on that but like it really is important and kind of cool houses do automatically upgrade over time by the way so a default house right here can only have two occupants you can see this one already upgraded and now can have six one just got torn down here because it's now got three occupants and that was too big so now it's trying to get itself up to six as well does take up some of your resources every time this happens what which is a little unfortunate because you don't have total control of the process but as long as you're producing enough wood it's not a big deal anyway let's go ahead and unlock that trade route so we can start generating some money so these guys are willing to build uh buy some berries some Stone and some planks all righty then let's go ahead and actually authorize that we will go to what is it the economy no it's resources Traders here it is okay under resources we can specify that I am willing to sell anything above let's say 50 stone make a bit of gold that away same thing could be true with the berries we've got more than a hundred go ahead and start selling some of that stuff off the planks got more than 30. sell that off too now that we've reached 15 Prosperity we have unlocked the ability to start buying some stuff from the different factions so if I wanted to right now for example we could place down uh extra Splendor items for our markets which beautifies it but also increases that Splendor value so we'll be able to get more influence with the labor department and eventually if we have let's say 30 prosperity and five Splendor in the labor category we would be able to get things like the tavern plus some Milling taxes some other Privileges and so on now one thing we're sort of stuck waiting for right now is immigration and you can see some people are coming by the higher happiness is in general the more people are willing to come and join us you can see that they are not receiving enough services at the moment and the market is part of that and people are working too far away from the marketplace but this will adjust itself eventually but that'll lead to this right here the immigration stat the higher the happiness is the more people are able to be employed in the more residential space there is the more these people you're going to get and here comes our first Trader this guy's gonna stop by the warehouse see if we have an access of anything or he's gonna stop by The Granary first I guess buy a bunch of the berries who's gonna buy some of our other stuff if he's interested in it and he walks off this is your early game method of generating some gold coins which will be able to use to unlock new buildings grab more territory Etc and eventually pay taxes to our King whom have been increased this land upon us and that's gonna be very important too so tell you what let's go ahead and spend some of that money let's go to our book over here we're gonna go to labor I'm gonna buy the market Splendor package right along here this unlocks a lot of decorative buildings for your market so now we can click on the market now here's the thing you might think the market is just one little stall right here and that's all it is right and every individual stalls a building wrong that's not how it works the market is a multi-building structure so if we go here we can edit we can say this is for the market stalls and oh lo and behold we can place more stalls we can place a food sign some barrels ropes whatever it's going to be we can place a tents over on top of it these are all things that are going to increase our Splendor value in that respective category at the cost of money and sometimes some resources and if we want to we'll be able to add even more Market stalls into one giant Marketplace so for example if I want to spend all these resources along here plus a hundred gold which seems pretty steep we can get several things added to the market including a new stall some decorations blah blah blah all of this is good and what's going to end up happening is we're going to build ourselves up to about five Splendor in the labor category which you may have noticed will end up being enough to unlock all of these other buildings first though we need to get ourselves a 30 prosperity and that's going to happen passively as we start building up more stuff in the game the bigger and stronger and richer we are the more Prosperity we'll get ah the King has come by he wants a bunch of wood okay we will get missions like this periodically ignore them at your own Peril could say no we don't really like this idea and we can discuss a better deal but there's a 90 chance that this gets worse so that's not a good idea um we'll go ahead and stockpile 100 Wood to then give to the king that's kind of a lot but all right and then we have someone else join in over here okay I might need to get myself another Lumber Camp which I hate to do because we don't have a really great source of trees to chop down from right now we can always get rid of it later let's just go ahead and place something up over here for example and just start Gathering a lot of extra wood now one probably going to run into pretty quickly is I'm going to run out of things like tools just like we can sell things we could also go ahead and buy things so let's go to our resources here tools if we ever fall below let's say 15 tools buy more now of course that costs me gold so we don't really want to do that any more than we absolutely have to I just realized by the way that northbury does not want to buy regular Stone I am wrong on that they want to buy polished Stone only okay so stockpiling this much Stone doesn't actually do me a whole lot of good let's go ahead and pull someone off of that we'll just have someone extra work at the carpenter that's gonna be my primary Money Maker right now and then yeah just get lots and lots of wood to fuel the fires now I'm not gonna lie to you this is definitely one of those games where if you're playing more efficiently you probably could place a lot of things really close to each other and minimize walking time and it honestly would be the most effective way to go that said I don't know I'm willing to spread things out just because I think it makes this game look a lot better and I'm thinking about that specifically as I try to place uh my next round of buildings specifically what I want to do is build monuments there's two things we need here we need an administrative building mainly the manor house where I am going to live but also where I can have a tax collector a bailiff bunch of other important jobs and this is going to make the labor people very happy we also need to get ourselves a very basic church and eventually things like monasteries and so on here's the thing about these Monument buildings though they are the type of thing where you're going to be constantly adding to it and making it bigger and better all the time you want to leave yourself a load of space if I were to place for example the manor house right here well I'm probably going to expand and take over this entire region later so it makes some sense sometimes to place those further away so I have a lot more room to grow okay only two days left but we can sell all the wood we gathered up to the king we'll get 100 gold out of the arrangement which is unfortunate because I'll get over my cap if we do that we'll also get a fair bit of influence which will gradually fade away so I don't consider this to be a very big deal but it's nice to have it anyway um let's spend a little bit of gold so we don't waste any let's go to our progression over here I will buy the wooden bridge and the bailiffs office let's just go ahead and do that sell the wood to the king and bada boom there we go so about those monuments what do we want to build first do you think how about we start working on I kind of want to place a church in this area over here I think kind of close to the market does make some sense um we can place a thatched Nave right something kind of like this it's got a nice big area to it actually if you place it kind of closer to the center of town close to where the market is I think that's going to get me better value around these houses makes it a highly desirable place to live also our commoners do require services in order to be happy that's one of the reasons we're not at 100 happiness right now so yeah let's go ahead and place down the Rusk church here just so I've got it locked down and I know where it's going to be and then for the administrative Center I'm thinking maybe kind of up on this hill overlooking the river feels very picturesque to me it's far away yes but I'm okay with that how about we place it right there okay so that's what that's going to be we do need to have a door I guess we'll go ahead and place one like right in the center right along here and we'd have a place for visitors to come by because whenever or somebody wants to come and beg an audience of me and I do mean beg we need to have a place for them to just drop off so right here it's gonna be fine it's gonna take a fair bit of resources including tools I don't have but that's fine let's go ahead and place it what's this A bunch of people are coming by um okay hi how are you guys meeting the elders the much respected leading men and women of the laborers oh good okay they've come to give me gifts namely some influence with them and some tools I actually really needed that so that was great thank you it's occurring to me that placing a church over here in a hill like this is actually pretty difficult it's a very slanty area would have been better to actually place it over in this area and get rid of this house hmm maybe I do that the clergy require this lens goodbye there you go we'll have something like this place the door right on the path that already exists place down a wooden bell tower which we can actually make a lot taller if we want does cost some extra resources and stuff which is fine I like the idea of a nice tall Bell Tower something like this seems fine Perfect all right let's get this thing built up it's going to take him a while to build this unfortunately since it is so far away but one thing we can do is go over to progression under labor and we can buy the Splendor package just like with the market if we add on all sorts of awesome beautification buildings to our manor house we'll get some extra labor Splendor I'm also gonna buy The Rustic Church Splendor because once the church is built I want to get some extra Splendor with them as well ah there we go that's our manor house again kind of in the middle of nowhere but don't worry we'll fix that eventually so now this is built up I'm immediately going to start adding some stuff to it specifically I would like to build a tax office now we could add on another one of these rustic halls and just kind of attach it like this and that's completely fine you could also add on some sort of a tower to it you know that could be kind of fun or maybe like a little wooden Hall that kind of just branches off or a rustic Tower like this there's a lot of things we could do now one problem I'm starting to have here is I'm actually starting to run lower and lower on food that's because my population has grown a little bit too fast and I don't have quite enough food to go around what I might need to do is get some fishing Huts but I can't do that until we get some more what was it Prosperity oh and actually we have enough never mind 20 is what we're looking for let's go ahead and unlock fishing I feel like I very badly would need this so how about we place like right over here right on the edge all right cool so that's gonna cost me 40 Lumber which is a fairly steep price but it's another source of food now the thing is with more sources of food we also will need to have an additional slot set aside for our market I'll go ahead and Mark this for fish there's no point in signing a second person to working here quite yet but you can imagine eventually we want to be able to sell both now here comes an event where we could actually spend some of the influence that I've been gaining so something I had to do was I built up a bridge for a fisherman somewhere I gave him a bunch of resources and just did it it was fine no big deal now he's saying hey um would you like to trade us some Stone and we'll give you fish and I'm like excuse me I just gave you a whole Bridge how about you give me some dang fish and I can spend five of that influence you'll get events like this periodically and it's always nice having a lot of influence on hand because then you can just get lots of freebies or get better results from the events my Builders are taking way too long to do anything and it's starting to make me very angry this church has been under construction for way too long finish the dang Bell Tower please there we go nothing about the Bell Tower by the way this is just like a little tiny thing you can change the pitch of the Bell foreign do whatever you want it's kind of fun if you want to I don't know C is pretty good you can have delays how many times you want to chime how fast do you want to chime there's just little things that like don't really matter they don't do anything and add anything to the game except just being kind of fun and cute anyway we have our church built and we can add on some extra Decor if you want to start gaining some influence with the clergy I do think this is going to be a very good place for us to end of this episode we are pretty much on track to start getting some extra food that's gonna be good I need to get a tax collector at the Manor that's going to solve some income issues and as long as we can start producing a lot of materials and sell them and in fact actually before I forget let's go ahead and buy polished Stone there we go I've got a lot of stone I can sell off that just means we'll have plenty of money just keep getting that and then after all of that Farms lots and lots of farms on the Hills it's gonna be beautiful I don't know how long we're gonna play this series it's kind of just as long as I feel like it until we get our fill of the game but I'm looking forward to seeing what I can create and I hope you're looking forward to this series if so I would ask you hit that like button leave comment subscribe make sure you hit that notify Bell and I'll see you guys next time [Music]
