yes it looks like they're coming our way the both of them this is the couple who wanted to stay hidden and this is the video they don't want you to see crime watch daily hunted these two down in their tropical hideaway and they aren't happy to see us do they know something did they do something are they trying to hide something it's like they just erased Doris [Music] it starts in Fort Valley Georgia stately mansions tobacco and cotton fields 5.3 square miles of southern charm lots and lots of peach trees because Fort Valley is in Peach County very conservative community very southern and you couldn't find a better example of southern hospitality than Doris at Westfield school and nearby Perry she was the cheerleader that everybody loved but no one adored Doris more than her older sister Leanne I was the brunette she was the blonde and we were together you know no one could could tear the bond between the two of us infectious smile dedicated student and talented too she was very artistic she could sit down and draw anything and just just by looking at it or maybe even just imagine in it and if what the girl from middle Georgia imagined was a family she found the beginnings of that at the University of Georgia there during a winter storm Doris would meet a young aspiring golf pro named John Worrell there was a snow day and classes were canceled into all of the the college kids were out playing in the snow and John endorsed would happen to live right across from each other in the apartment complex but Doris's family finds her new boyfriend a little odd he was just sort of standoffish he he just didn't like to be around was sort of hard to have a conversation with him [Music] right out of college Doris takes the name world and the couple puts down roots a hundred miles from Fort Valley in John's hometown of Douglas Georgia so do you feel like your sister was marrying into a good and wealthy prominent family I did I really did they all go to church they all go to the country club after church and a big Sunday lunch together and they were a very tight-knit family Robert Preston the editor of the local newspaper grew up with the world family and took an instant liking to John's sweet new bride Doris had the heart and that was one thing about her she was such a kind caring person who was willing to give what she had to help other people Doris gets a job as a schoolteacher and the family grows first by two girls then a little boy but the expanding brood squeezes out John's dreams of pro golf they decided that he didn't need to be on the road all the time you needed to do something else and so he did that something else was a family amusement center he'd call John's sport park a go-kart track an arcade even a little kids ball pit and obstacle course called tube town the world seemed to have it all three beautiful kids and a thriving business in a tight-knit community focused on church and family when you looked at him look at the family two girls a little boy you know very influential very wealthy family and that family was about to unexpectedly grow at church services one Sunday they meet a young girl in need a pretty shy fifteen-year-old named Paula Yarborough an immigrant without papers from Venezuela she'd been abandoned by her guardian aunt and found herself on the church's doorstep and homeless that's something a good Christian like Doris couldn't allow my sister had a heart of gold and she let Paulo come over and stay she said come stay I'm stay you can sleep on our sofa and Paulo did and some point it transitioned from her staying on the sofa first few nights to actually living with them Paula fits right in helping with the younger kids working side-by-side with John at the sport park after four years and at the age of 19 she has become one of the family I thought paula was a you know it was a wonderful sweet person again always a church always smiling great personality did your opinion of her change my opinion of a lot of people in this case has changed so yes a sweltering hot September morning and Douglas would be the day everything changed John sport park was closed John and Paula had scheduled some deep cleaning of the facility but today would be different today Doris normally a stay-at-home mom would help clean the kitty tunnels why was doors cleaning the amusement park I don't know she's the owner's wife yes did she always do no no she had never done that but she held on Doris had never gone there before to clean yeah but this time she had to yes she said that whose idea was that um Paula around 9:30 a.m. John allegedly ducks out for a trip to the hardware store leaving Doris and Paula alone and sometime between 9:40 and 11:15 gunfire explodes in John's sport parks I was sitting at the office and I heard a call come over the scanner there was an armed robbery at John Sports Park so I looked at one of my reporters and I said grab the camera and go out to the sports park and see what's going on out there and we might can get a story out of this minutes later Roberts reporter calls back with an update this was more than just a robbery and he said well the crime scene van just pulled up and they went in with their their boxes and briefcases and equipment and all that and I just slumped down in my chair and I told him I said somebody inside the parks dead a hot September morning around 11:15 a.m. a 911 call comes in from a man claiming someone shot his wife these are never before released pictures of John Worrell telling investigators he's returned from a trip to the hardware store and finds a bloodbath John's wife Doris lies dead in a pool of blood shot once in the head point-blank I think that she covered her head up because I'd heard part of her finger were known so she had her hand over her head and got shot and took off part of the finger went through her head there's no sign of a weapon no sign of the killer but Doris his sister LeAnn Tuggle says hiding in another part of the park is John endorses live-in nanny Paula Yarber II she went and climbed in a tunnel and stayed there until John came home hiding yes she was afraid she said she wouldn't come out of the tunnel these are exclusive pictures of investigators carrying the shaken 19 year old nanny out of the park cradling her like a baby LeeAnn claims Paula tells investigators a harrowing story after John leaves for the hardware store around 9:30 a.m. someone knocks on a door in another part of the park Paula claims Doris goes to answer it after that Paula says she hears shouting banging on metal glass shattering and a single gunshot the attack is quick and brutal she was shot with a handgun and those blood all over the place yeah did it did it make her whole head explode but who would gun down this church-going mother of three in cold blood the first theory that came out was that it was a gang retaliation the sports park was a good hangout spot and there were some folks with gang connections that went out there that calls from trouble and John had asked them to leave and then they came back to exact revenge but that theory doesn't pass the smell test for LeAnn long before that day of horror she knew there was trouble in the world marriage lots of it my sister did realize that he was hiding in affairs with younger younger girls your sister knew that he was having affairs with younger women yes what was her reaction to the affair she was bit stunned and she said John stuck on the south side for a while and and I think maybe they weren't things out but not for long there are allegations that John may have had at least three Affairs before Doris was murdered yes anyone we know there are allegations that John had an inappropriate relationship with Paula banannie over the course of four years Paula the young pretty team becomes a woman before John's eyes someone close to the family advised them not to allow her to live in the house that that would cause problem soon Liane claims John and Paula are spending long days and nights working at the sports park was Paula having an affair with John yeah yeah I would call it an affair you could tell by the looks in their eyes Leanne says everybody starts noticing those looks especially her sister Doris by this time Doris has had it she's had it she's had it she wants to leave one of her friends suggested that she pack her bags and she leave and she'd go home to Mama's house and she said no if I go then they will have one she also said you don't know what they'll do to me not long after that Leanne says John and Paula insists that Doris help clean the sports park on a sweltering September morning as police deepen their investigation Leanne notices what she calls odd behavior from Paula I was interviewed by several agents who asked me lots of questions it was at the GBI office when we got back to the world residence Paula was the first one to meet me at the car and she was very antsy and she said what'd they say what'd they say what'd they say and I thought that was a bit odd that she was just jumping all over me like this Leanne's not the only one who's looking for answers closer to home John was originally cooperative at the beginning of the investigation but as further investigative requests were made he requested an attorney and therefore we could not have any further contact I used to beg John to go to the GBI with me and he wouldn't go he said they were crooked and just stay away from them he said if if we kept talking to the GBI that something would happen to his children and not just his children with Doris Liane claims John was also very concerned with protecting someone else Paula she was an illegal alien Piper wart from when she came into the country at age five was never completed and she had overstayed her welcome in the US so Paula gets arrested because she does not have legal status was that a rather public arrest it was but she was at a very nice restaurant here in town she was picked up during lunch arrested placed in a van and taken off just that fast facing lockup and deportation the 19 year old finally decides to speak and Paula drops a bombshell about Doris's murder Paula made statements that led agents believe that she had more information about the death than she was willing to give the agents at the time of her deportation statements that could blow this murder case wide open I was standing up when I read the documents and I had to sit now that was when it really hit home for me family and friends are saying Doris's husband John and Paula the immigrant teen who lived with them and became their nanny had something to do with it I do not think this was a random act of meanness at all they were going to replace Doris in the family the Georgia Bureau of Investigation won't say whether they agree and have not named John and Paula as suspects in the murder but then Paula is suddenly taken into custody on an immigration violation she was eating lunch with some of her friends and the agents walked in and arrested her and took her away reporter Robert Preston says making such a public arrest means it's about more than just an expired visa things like that don't happen in a vacuum that's not how these things are normally carried out investigators use the arrests to grill Paula about Doris's murder the 19 year old seems to crash in this letter from the district attorney a bombshell Paula tells detectives she knows quote more about Doris worlds murder than she had previously told investigators when they tried to nail her down on specifics she suddenly clams up did John try and help her with her legal defense yes yes the the world family tried to get her a bond but her bail is roadblocked by the District Attorney of Coffee County he doesn't want her released and for good reason in a letter to immigration opposing her bond the DA claims Paula is withholding crucial information in a murder investigation and more than that the DA writes this shocker John Worrell is the main suspect in the murder of his wife I was standing up when I read the documents and I had to sit now that was the first evidence that I'd seen that law enforcement had looked at both John and Paula reporter Robert Preston believes at this point it just can't be proven they don't have any any smoking gun literally or figuratively to bring the case to a conclusion and the nineteen-year-olds defense team argues without a smoking gun they can't keep Paula locked up but authorities do run her out of town Paula was deported and I believe Paula went back to Venezuela she ended up in Costa Rica I felt total relief that she would be gone I felt like if she got to a point where she was not in control and she was not able to manipulate and somebody would slip up and say something that would incriminate whomever was responsible and Doris's sister believes the harsh glare of suspicion became too much for Jon to handle he said half the people in Douglas looked at him with pity sure and the other half looked at him with suspicion and he said that the kids weren't able to live a normal life Jon packed the children up and move down to Fernandina Beach Florida family had property down there while Jon cools his heels on the Florida shores things heat up and Douglas to arrest for Doris's murder sent shockwaves through Jon's hometown Glidden rodriguez and brandon cage were arrested on conspiracy to commit murder charges Glidden had actually worked for john and doris for many years and Doris had invited Glidden to her home and had shared holidays with him and meals I kept thinking how could this person that Doris was so kind to do this the implications are as provocative as the arrests the charge conspiracy to commit murder means they had allegedly discussed plans for a murder but not that they actually pulled the trigger it begs the question if planning Doris's murder with whom investigators thought that they had information related to the murder and of course by picking them up they thought that might that might get didn't speak get them to talk a little bit and they never said a word after nearly five weeks in custody authorities released Rodriguez and cage they felt like there was insufficient evidence to move forward with the case they never were charged they did not stay in jail I really don't even know that they were even questioned any further it grinds the investigation to a standstill but several months later John world makes another move John took the family dog took him to the vet and had him euthanized then went and withdrew the children from school in the middle of the day and fled to Costa Rica it's all there in black and white spelled out in correspondence from the district attorney john world is the chief suspect in the murder of his wife Paula Yarborough a person of interest no one's been officially charged with Doris's murder but many like reporter Robert Preston harbors strong suspicions we know for a fact there were three people in the park one of those individuals is dead and two of those people came out and they're no longer in the country a judge orders Paula to be deported from the US then John suddenly uproots his children for the second time in two years this time to the Central American nation of Costa Rica why Costa Rica that's a good question what could this grieving widower hope to find in Central America a world away from his life in Georgia crime watch daily engaged the services of private investigator Frank Grimes we sent him to the western edge of Costa Rica to see if he could track down John world he does turns out John owns a local ice delivery service he's a big guy in a red shirt coming out and then the Shocker check out his partner yep old nanny new girlfriend Paula Yarborough now known by locals as mrs. Worrell in fact we found a local newspaper article written in Spanish that refers to the couple as parents - Doris's children that's right happily living together in this tropical paradise is the entire world clan except of course for Doris this is gonna be interesting and they look none too pleased about our cameras watching their every move after several minutes of skulking out of view John and Paula storm over to Frank's van all right it looks like they're coming our way the both of them it's not to sell him ice no he's coming here he's coming here think well no she's going in her pocket what the cameras miss here is a furious Paula slapping John's hand down when Frank reaches out to shake it [Music] [Music] once again John and Paula refused to set the record straight about Doris's murder so questions still linger lien is there any possibility and had nothing to do with John and nothing to do with Paula it gets harder and harder to believe that one because why would John and Paula leave I think if you could get people close to the investigation to speak they would tell you that it is unprosecuted not unsolved what haven't the arrests been made where is the justice and at all it's a good question remember there is official paperwork from the district attorney's office that names John as a suspect and Paula is called a person of interest in Doris's murder in fact the DA even warns immigration not to let her go because she could be a flight risk crime watch daily has asked the Georgia Bureau of Investigation for more information but they claim there is only so much they can say because this is an ongoing investigation and for the family that means ongoing heartache when we look at this picture if your sister is dead and she's moved into your sister's position taking over your sister's family mm-hmm that's right she has she's become my sister it's like they just erased Doris
