hi guys a bit of a different video for me today I've got laurent regime coming around and I'm making Christmas lunch so I thought I would film myself making the lunch and also just have a chat with you guys so that is what I'm gonna do and so I would start with the main course but actually I think what I need to do first is take out the cheese which I have so that it can rest and the extra gooey because that is very important okay I'm gonna put the cheese on here we've got this free it is extra extra stinky and so I'm gonna put it on here don't you have too much cheese woman because there's only you know two or three of us so I'm sure that mr. M will have some food too but also because I also have mince pies and I have some cakes which I'll show you in a second which I didn't know I was going to but which my publisher to berate sent me as Christmas present and they are so yummy but I can't eat them all on my own though I have I have actually tried quite hard so I'm going to have those cakes as well and the mince puppies excuse me for over my tracer and the cheese so I think we're gonna have safe to say more than a food so then that the main courses I said I'm making a Christmas dinner with vegetarian haggis and I'm also gonna make Yorkshire pudding even though technically you're only supposed to have Yorkshire puddings with roast beef but what I don't know these and we like our Yorkshire puddings with every meal I have it with breakfast if people didn't for a moment the world's smallest tooth board okay so these are the cakes that my lovely publisher sent me and they are so so cute let me put them on a plate and I will show you don't know now let's get on to the main meal let's get everything out in front of me so I can see all okay I think that is everything so I'm gonna make some rice to paint from onion gravy I'm gonna make some rows close our roast Brussels sprouts because Rose Brussels sprouts are the best kinds Brussels sprouts some carrots which I'm going to do I'm going to boil them and then I'm going to fry them up but after they're cooked in a little bit of butter with some pepper we call the turnip in the Northeast but I think that lots of other people call it sweet whatever you want to call it and then I also have the haggis the vegetarian haggis which even if you're not vegetarian I think it's nicer than actual haggis so if you're not familiar vegetarian I guess is basically just lentils it tastes like stuffing that's what it tastes like I've also got cram resource in the fridge I might make some bread sauce in record time and then I have eggs to make the Yorkshire puddings so first let's see the gravy [Music] okay so I've got half a large onion frying on a low heat and when that's Browns a bit I'm gonna add some flour and which will help thicken the gravy then I'm gonna add the stock and the wine and then simmer it down I'm now going to cut up this cauliflower and I finished my book tour this week both of them and for Frankenstein book shop and for the beginning of the world in the middle of the night though it was a bit of it I'm too climactic end really because I was supposed to have my last effect on Thursday in Coventry but I couldn't get to Coventry all of the trains were canceled so I had to call Michel who runs a big company bookshop and tells me I was really sorry and I just simply couldn't get there so tour isn't really over because we're going to rearrange the event for the new year sometime so if you were coming to the imagine commentary I'm really sorry I didn't reach out to everyone who'd messaged me saying they were coming and I know that Michael did too and we will be rearranging and I will be there and it will be a lovely time so my last event actually ended up being on Tuesday which was for the lush book club now I have to say lush are the nicest company I have ever worked with ever and I suspected from that ethos and their lovely products and everything that they were a lovely company but oh my goodness they were just the loveliest they've bought in 60 copies of my book and gave a free copy out to everyone who came to the book club along with loads of lush goodies and cake and the king that they made was insane I'm gonna insert some pictures here so you can see they made a huge cake with the cover of my book on it and they make all these little cakes and then they picked lush products that related to the book so there was a a hard body lotion a solid product body lotion called once upon a time the smokes there's no fair any Jeni bond because there are even fairy tales and the marmalade jelly bomb because they said they thought there was a theme of orange in the book which I hadn't actually done deliberately but when I thought about it I was like oh yeah yeah the read but it was a really really lovely evening I had so much fun and I know I need to check on the onions and a baking tray yeah it was so so lovely and so read from the book answered questions and we had a lovely time and ate lots of cake and then I came home smelling amazing because I had so many lush products in my bag and just thank out the whole tube carriage much to everyone's delight and that is not not sarcasm I think every one of the train was looking at me wondering what I had in my bag but yeah they were a really lovely bunch and I had a great time and and oh that's it in very very nicely so with this cauliflower all I do is put a bit on and a little bit of salt pepper and bang it in the oven and the oven is on about 200 degrees and the women and I bake them for about half an hour ish this is not the most helpful cooking video I realize that this is not intended as a tutorial this is just me talking G while I cook so apologies that it's not the most helpful you can always google but I just do it you know to I when I think they're done I think about compost and so yeah I am now done with the beds for the year I've still got quite a bit of other work before I'm finished and give myself a bit of time off but I'm kind of glad that events are now and now over I really really enjoy doing book tour I don't have to do but I have found before the beginning of the world in the middle of the night more so than any book tour that I've ever done and this is gonna sound really melodramatic for which I apologize but I kind of found that every event I did I felt like I lost the bit of myself and which it sounds really pathetic and it's taken a while to kind I'm still kind of regather in myself feeling a little bit fragile at the moment I'm fine but because the book contains so many subjects that are really personal to me I haven't found it difficult to talk about because I'm very happy to talk about the book but I think talking about it every single night for weeks as has been a bit odd in a way that I hadn't really anticipated to keep tablespoons of flour into the onions I'm going to stir that together then I'm going to add one sachet of stock and then a 20-bit of the wine and pour it will simmer it down boil it down and then gradually add more wine and more stock and when I don't want to overwhelm it by putting in everything at once I had to move the gravy onto this immersion heater which you probably can't see it's just that shot but it's basically an extra electric cop and I'm doing that because I need to use that hot to boil the potatoes to what I need to do next I'm just gonna peel some potatoes [Music] I'm going to cut these into thirds now pop will in five minutes shove them in I call him that and check them around so they become all fluffy on the outside put some salt and pepper and virgin olive oil on and then shove them in the oven for about three minutes so they become all crispy and yummy so now that I have finished book tour for this year but I have other work on including starting to judge the Somerset reward I judged it last year I'm judging up to the next two years I think and all of the books that I have to read arrived in the post on Friday in a very very large box I'm so a picture here because I obviously can't show you so yeah it's a very very big books and all over decided to claim it for herself there are three judges of which opción one and we go to all these books that are so different there are plays poetry nonfiction fiction everything in here because anything can be submitted last year we awarded three people with the prize so there was the mention imagina Carter sunshine and infinite ground and all of those books for the authors of those books will all give it 5,000 pounds it's just really exciting to receive a box like that and to know that inside there's going to be some really great books or not only that but we get to award the authors of some of those really great books some money so that they can write more excellent books so just yes I really like that part of my job so ok the potatoes are under par boil and and now what we will do now I think my least favorite job I'm gonna get it out of the way I'm gonna peel this which is the Swede Turner and then I'm gonna cut it and it's so difficult to cut I might have to get mr. M come and help me my hands can't really cope with it there aren't many things that I can't do cutting Swede is sometimes one of them victory I hope you can see we've thrown up smoke coming on the induction heater that if the gravy is going a bit crazy should we turn that down tell it down a bit oh my god it's so much smoke no like I put a little volcano yeah okay right I'm going to drain the potatoes shake them up and then we're gonna put them in a baking tray and shove them in the oven and then while the water is draining I'm going to turn it but now it's gonna boil for 25 minutes then I'm going to match it up potatoes I always put oil I know this wasn't a tutorial but I'm just explaining what I'm doing and put some oil in the bottom of the pan and then get the potatoes and you want to bash them around like this makes them the crispiest kind of Tito risk-taker so shove is it a bit more oil on top some salt and pepper from now I'm going to go in the oven for about 40 to 50 minutes well that's doing that and while the turnips cooking and while the gravy is simmering I am going to set the table and someone here who's here [Music] Jim oh I don't need to make a huygens it's right Mike oh my god it may be high if you want this bug to me I will accept McSween or the other bronze eats any Shanna and everyone knows how to peel carrots and boil them so use your imagination I'm gonna show up to sprout in a baking tray and put them in the oven I'll come back to you when I'm making the ocean puddings I think you're making them from scratch yeah well you can Lola really wants a carrot so I think jeans didn't be a favorite carrot and we'll sum that because that's really cute Lola would you like a carrot would you I think that's a yes would you like a carrot come on then G or do you like my my unicorn socks guys yeah oh she's six and a bit cat it look it's okay okay so we have the cabbage boiling we've got everything else in the oven and the bread sauce is simmering over here and being made now we're gonna make some Yorkshire puddings they're really really easy really easy to make $24 free range eggs 140 grams of flour and should be 200 milliliters budget week usually a Nicholas urges oversized sweat glands and Pat mrs. to have nipples they sweat note your whole body just sweats milk that's why there's the best you might not be able to see this we can attempt I really like not cool though sweetie over Seoul oil in the oven little bit oil and it's been in the oven five minutes I'm going to pull this in shove it back in the oven for half an hour and then we'll have your proteins [Music] this is Lauren's Christmas presents Jean Jerry Christmas everyone yeah everyone needs a joke Jeremy Corbyn Christmas jumper [Music] [Music]
